    TV18 marketing head Neel Chowdhury quits; to join Obopay as VP, CMO

    MUMBAI: Neel Chowdhury, CNBC TV18 and CNBC Awaaz VP marketing, has ended his two-year stint with the company to join US-based mobile payment service company Obopay as vice-president and chief marketing officer.

    Confirming the development to Indiantelevision.com, Chowdhury said, “Yes I have joined the new start-up Obopay today as VP and CMO.”

    Based out of Mumbai, Chowdhury will spearhead the company’s expansion plans in India.

    Before joining TV18 in March 2008, Chowdhury was CMO at Times Global Broadcasting (TGBCL). Prior to TGBCL, he was Bharti Mumbai head -marketing. He has also worked with Tata Teleservices and Pepsico International as COO – West Bengal and channel development manager respectively.

    Obopay has several strategic investing partners like Qualcomm, Citi, Redpoint Ventures, Richmond Management, and Essar.

    Tata Indicom launch low cost Motofone F3c having Qualcomm single chip

    BANGALORE: Tata Indicom today announced the national launch of the ultra slim Motofone F3c on the CDMA platform in Bangalore today based on Qualcomm’s QSC 6010 chipset. On the anvil are launches of other chipsets – 6020 and 6030 with other handset manufacturers according to Tata Teleservices (TTL) CEO Darryl Green. The Motofone F3 will be exclusive for TTL for the next six months. Bollywood actor Neha Dupia did the honours for TTL.

    TTL plans to target the ordinary man who probably gets a cell phone for the first time with the low cost stylish handset as bait. The Motofone F3c is priced at Rs.1,699/- inclusive of all taxes and charges. TTL plan to combine Motofone F3c with the benefits of their GO XTRA PACK, will enable customers to avail double talk time for the first six months with bonus talk time valid for 1 year from the date of activation. The scheme also offers free incoming calls for the first six months without recharge. Darryl is confident of selling 2 to 3 million of these handsets over the next 12 months.

     
    This was also the first global launch of the single chip by any company globally according to Qualcomm senior vp Kanwalinder Singh who avers that “QUALCOMM is committed to bringing wireless connectivity to emerging markets, and our QSC family of solutions enables compelling, affordable devices for cost-sensitive countries such as India.     “Though many companies have announced single chip solutions, they are so far only there on paper,” added Singh.

     
    The Motofone F3c has features such as voice prompts in six local languages—English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, the QUALCOMM Single Chip (QSC) enabled device from Motorola, MOTOFONE F3c has been specially designed to suit the needs of Indian consumers. It offers a rich vacuum metallized finish making it extremely sturdy, with polyphonic ringtones including three Indian tones, high audio, office quality speakerphone and ringtone downloads.

    TTL, which recently crossed one million subscribers in Karnataka and two million subscriptions in New Delhi, is looking to close the financial year with 18 million subscribers. They currently have 15 million subscribers.

    MUMBAI: Qualcomm, a developer of code division multiple access (CDMA) technology for mobile communications, has announced the selection of winners for its $ 1 million wireless reach Brew application funding program.

    The program challenges developers to create the most innovative Brew public service application in one of five areas: healthcare, education, public safety, governance and the environment.

    The grand prize winner is Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). TCS will receive a grant for $ 100,000 for development of its proposed application. The application development team, led by TCS’ head of advanced technology and applications, Dr Arun Pande, will demonstrate how CDMA networks can help provide specific and useful advice to farmers and spread the benefits of technology deep into rural India at an affordable cost. For the grand prize, Qualcomm will also apply additional funds to put TCS’ proposal into action through a new or existing wireless reach project.

    The other grant recipients include Bandung Institute of Technology, Beijing InfoQuick SinoVoice Speech Technology Corp, BeWell Mobile Technology and University of California, Berkeley.

    MUMBAI: Qualcomm a developer and innovator of code division multiple access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, has announced the selection of finalists for the company’s wireless reach Brew application funding programme.

    As part of Qualcomm’s wireless reach initiative, the USD $ one million fund is designed to increase the availability of useful wireless applications in countries around the world.

    Qualcomm’s wireless reach Brew application funding program has challenged companies to create the most innovative Brew public service application in one of five areas: healthcare; education; public safety; governance; and the environment.

    Qualcomm will award five grants in varying amounts for up to a total of USD $500,000 for the most innovative proposals for Brew applications. The remaining amount will be used to put one or more of the winning proposals into action through new or existing wireless reach projects.

    MUMBAI: Qualcomm Incorporated will acquire San Diego-based Qualphone Inc., a provider of IP-based Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) embedded client software solutions for mobile devices and interoperability testing (IOT) services for $18 million.

    The acquisition of Qualphone’s products and resources will help Qualcomm further accelerate the delivery of multimedia-capable, feature-rich 3G solutions on top of the emerging IMS and Multi Media Domain (MMD) architectures to WCDMA/UMTS and CDMA2000 markets. Completion of the acquisition is expected later this month.

    Qualphone’s IMS client platform provides mobile operators with a technical and commercial framework for offering services using a wide range of integrated and interactive media, voice, text, picture and video technologies. Qualphone’s 3G/IP multimedia embedded client framework can be tailored to the specific requirements of individual operators and handset manufacturers, and its end-to-end IOT services help reduce time to market. Qualcomm’s acquisition of Qualphone enhances the company’s continuing global efforts to provide a highly efficient launch path for new 3G products and services.

    MUMBAI: Qualcomm Incorporated, a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, has introduced the QSC1100 single-chip solution.

    The QSC1100 solution doubles talk time compared to currently available CDMA2000 handsets, in addition to supporting features such as downloadable polyphonic ringtones and color displays.

    The QSC1100 is designed to enable CDMA2000 handsets that break new industry price barriers for emerging markets worldwide, according to an official release.

    Addressing the dramatic subscriber growth anticipated in emerging markets around the world, the QSC1100 solution features multiple technologies to dramatically improve network capacity by up to 100 percent.

    “The QSC1100 enables our handset manufacturing partners to further extend their offerings in emerging markets by introducing compelling, attractive devices at new price points,” said Qualcomm CDMA Technologies president Dr. Sanjay K Jha. “Working with all levels of the wireless ecosystem, Qualcomm is able to meet a common goal of accelerating time to market for a wide variety of new handsets with differentiated features and superior user experiences.”

    MUMBAI: Coruscant Tec, a mobile content developer and aggregator has launched the popular Man’s World magazine for mobiles on the Tata Indicom network. The mobile magazine is available at a monthly subscription of Rs 30.

    The launch of the pocket size magazine marks the debut of a print magazine onto the mobile interface.

    With consumers increasingly demanding more from their mobile networks, the launch of the pocket size magazine is the first of its kind in the value added services market in India.

    The mini magazine has been developed on Qualcomm’s Brew platform and will be updated twice a month.
