Pvr Inox serves up India’s first luxury dine-in cinema in Bengaluru

MUMBAI: Lights, camera… appetiser! PVR Inox is giving Bengaluru’s cinema-goers a taste of something extraordinary with the launch of India’s first-ever luxury dine-in cinema at M5 Ecity Mall, where silver screens meet silver service.

Fresh off opening its new eight screen multiplex at the mall, Pvr Inox is now transforming the movie experience into a full-fledged culinary and lifestyle destination. The new dine-in format lets guests enjoy gourmet, chef-curated meals in the comfort of their cinema seats, no stepping out, and remarkably, no movie ticket required to dine.

The concept redefines what a night at the movies means. From Crosta’s artisanal pizzas and Wokstar’s sizzling Asian comfort food to Dogfather’s inventive hot dogs and Local Street’s regional delicacies, every dish is designed to elevate the cinematic journey. Add to that café corners, indulgent desserts, and lounge-style foyers and the venue doubles as a social space for foodies and film buffs alike.

At the heart of this venture lies “youthification”, Pvr Inox’s futuristic approach to entertainment. The space integrates gaming zones, kids-first formats, and digital lounges, alongside its luxury auditoriums, appealing to young, experience-hungry audiences. “This is not just about watching films, it’s about spending time well,” said Pvr Inox lead specialist – innovation, film marketing & digital programming Aamer Bijli.

Echoing the sentiment, Pvr Inox Limited  managing director Ajay Bijli added, “With M5 Ecity Mall, we’re inviting audiences to experience cinema in an entirely new way. From India’s first dine-in auditorium to immersive technology and curated food, it’s a celebration of films, lifestyle, and shared moments.”

The tech is as grand as the gastronomy. Every auditorium boasts Dolby Atmos, Dts:x, and 4k Laser projection, with the Big Pix theatre offering Reald 3D visuals, and the Samsung Onyx Led screen taking in-seat dining to dazzling new heights.

  • Ajay Devgn rebrands NY Cinemas as Devgn Cinex in metro push

Ajay Devgn rebrands NY Cinemas as Devgn Cinex in metro push

MUMBAI: Ajay Devgn is putting his name on cinema screens—literally. The actor launched Devgn Cinex on Maha Navami, rebranding the NY Cinemas chain at North Bombay’s Durga Puja celebrations alongside his wife, actor Kajol. The move signals an aggressive expansion play across Indian metros and the south, backed by Vishwa Samudra Holdings.

Vishwa Samudra group managing director Shivdutt Das hailed the rebrand as more than cosmetic. The company promises to turn multiplexes into “spaces of innovation, comfort, and culture”, deploying premium formats and what it calls “immersive experiences”. Whether that means reclining seats, better sound systems or something more ambitious remains unclear—cinema chains have long promised whilst delivering incremental upgrades.

NY Cinemas has operated quietly for years, but the Devgn tie-up suggests plans to compete with PVR Inox, which dominates India’s multiplex market with over 1,700 screens, and Cinépolis, which runs around 450.

Devgn, one of Indian cinema’s bankable stars and a producer through his Devgn Films banner, brings celebrity firepower to a sector recovering from pandemic losses and grappling with streaming competition.

The emphasis on south India is telling. Regional-language films have outperformed Hindi movies at the box office in recent years, with Tamil and Telugu blockbusters like Pushpa and RRR drawing massive crowds. Metros in Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad have become battlegrounds for cinema chains chasing affluent audiences willing to pay premium ticket prices.

Vishwa Samudra Holdings operates across real estate, hospitality and entertainment. Its bet on Devgn Cinex suggests it sees room for another national player, despite consolidation that saw PVR and Inox merge last year.

Says a media observer: “There’s a shortage of cinema screens in India compared to its massive 1.5 billion or so population. The population is underserved, which has stunted the growth of Indian cinema. The more the screens, the better can be the box office collections for good productions.”

But whether Indian audiences need yet another multiplex brand—celebrity-backed or not—to fill that gap is another question entirely.

MUMBAI: Popcorn, cheers and nail-biting overs, cricket’s fiercest rivalry is ready for its close-up. PVR Inox is turning the Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan into a cinematic spectacle, screening the clash live on 28 September across more than 100 cinema halls nationwide.

Partnering with ITW Universe and the Asian Cricket Council, PVR Inox is offering fans an ad-free, stadium-like atmosphere, only this time with Dolby sound and plush recliners. Earlier India–Pakistan matches saw audiences clap, chant and celebrate in unison, recreating the charged energy of the stands.

“The screenings have shown us how deeply cricket connects our audiences,” said PVR Inox lead specialist – innovation, film marketing & digital programming Aamer Bijli. “It’s about creating an experience where fans feel every roar, every wicket and every boundary as if they were inside the stadium itself.”

Cricket goes widescreen as PVR Inox brings Asia Cup 2025 to cinemas

MUMBAI: Popcorn, plush seats, and a sixer on the big screen PVR Inox is giving cricket a cinematic twist. The country’s largest multiplex chain has teamed up with ITW Universe and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to beam the Asia Cup 2025 India fixtures live across more than 200 cinema screens nationwide.

The first blockbuster is, of course, the India–Pakistan clash on 14 September 2025, followed by India vs Oman on 19 September, the Super Four matches from 20–26 September, and the grand finale on 28 September. Tickets for the screenings go live on 11 September, with fans promised an atmosphere as electrifying as a stadium, only with better acoustics.

“We are thrilled to bring cricket’s biggest rivalry to the silver screen,” said PVR Inox lead specialist for innovation, film marketing & digital programming Aamer Bijli. “Cricket in India is more than a sport, it’s an emotion. By showcasing these highly anticipated matches on the big screen, we aim to create a community viewing experience like no other.”

For ITW Universe, the collaboration is about turning fandom into a shared spectacle. “The Asia Cup is the pinnacle of Asian cricketing rivalry. Watching it in cinemas is larger than life and deeply immersive,” noted ITW Universe co-founder Bhairav Shanth crediting the ACC for awarding public screening rights.

The ACC too sees this as a leap in accessibility. “Bringing live matches into nationwide cinemas reflects our commitment to making cricket more inclusive,” said ACC GM for finance and ops Thusith Perera.

This move is part of PVR Inox’s alternate content strategy, which has already seen screenings of live concerts, cultural events, and gaming tournaments. With cricket now joining the line-up, the multiplex chain is firmly positioning cinemas as community hubs, not just movie halls.

So whether you’re after cover drives or cover songs in between overs, PVR Inox is betting that this season, the Asia Cup will be as much about the big screen as the big game.

  • Screen time turns scream time as PVR Inox rolls out Kerala Comedy Fest

Screen time turns scream time as PVR Inox rolls out Kerala Comedy Fest

MUMBAI: Why should the big screen have all the fun? This June, Kerala’s moviegoers can expect less drama and more laughter as PVR Inox transforms its plush cinemas into live comedy hotspots. India’s largest multiplex chain, PVR Inox, is hitting refresh on the moviegoing experience with the launch of the Comedy Fest in Kerala, a three-weekend-long celebration of stand-up comedy in partnership with Comedy Lounge, the state’s foremost comedy collective. From rising local stars to crowd-favourite comics, the fest promises a chuckle-fuelled line-up all served in the comfort of air-conditioned auditoriums with top-tier sound and lighting.

The festival kicks off on 14 June at PVR Lulu Mall, Kochi, with ‘Straight Outta Kochi’, Comedy Lounge’s signature showcase featuring top Kochi-based comics. The bilingual act (English & Malayalam) is designed to tickle funny bones across Kerala.

Next up, on 21 June, is the ‘Vishnu Pai Crowd Work Show’ at Inox Sobha City Mall, Thrissur. Known for his razor-sharp wit and pan-India performances, Vishnu Pai Kerala’s top-rated English-language comic brings his improv-style set that thrives on audience interaction.

The month wraps up with the ever-popular Kochi Open Mics on 28 June, back at PVR Lulu Mall, bringing a blend of English, Malayalam, and Hindi humour from emerging comics, keeping things fresh, unscripted, and full of surprises.

But this isn’t just a one-off laugh riot. It’s part of PVR Inox’s broader strategy to diversify cinema spaces into multi-format cultural hubs. From indie film screenings to live theatre and now stand-up comedy, the brand is reimagining its venues as stages for local stories and spontaneous joy.

“This isn’t just about bringing comics into theatres,” said PVR Inox Ltd chief business planning & strategy Kamal Gianchandani. “It’s about expanding the definition of entertainment and connecting with audiences in a format that’s local, lively and unmissably real.”

As Kerala’s stand-up scene gains momentum, the Comedy Fest offers comics a high-quality platform and audiences a fresh reason to head back to the theatre this time, not for the plot twists, but for the punchlines.

  • PVR Inox wins first round in Bhool Chuk Maaf battle: court halts Maddock’s OTT debut

PVR Inox wins first round in Bhool Chuk Maaf battle: court halts Maddock’s OTT debut

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court has thrown a wrench into Maddock Films’ plan to skip the cinemas and take Bhool Chuk Maaf straight to Amazon Prime Video. In a dramatic turn, the court issued an interim stay on the film’s OTT release, siding with PVR Inox in a fierce Rs 60 crore legal battle.

The courtroom clash erupted after Maddock Films, citing “heightened security drills across the nation” amid an India-Pakistan conflict, decided to ditch the planned 9 May theatrical release and launch the Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi starrer directly online on 16 May. But PVR Inox, which had already geared up for the theatrical launch, wasn’t having it.

PVR Inox’s counsel, Dinyar Madon, told the court that Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock had breached a 6 May contract that locked the film into an eight-week theatrical run before any streaming release. “The producers pulled the plug on the deal just a day before the release,” he argued. The multiplex giant demanded Rs 60 crore in damages.

Maddock’s defence, led by Venkatesh Dhond, tried to wriggle out, claiming the eight-week clause only mattered if the film actually released in cinemas. But justice Arif Doctor wasn’t convinced. He pointed out that PVR Inox had already reserved screens, promoted the film, and sold tickets. Cancelling at the last minute, he said, would damage the multiplex chain’s reputation and goodwill.

The showdown is far from over. Maddock Films must now file a response before the next hearing on 16 June.

In the meantime, Bhool Chuk Maaf is stuck in limbo — a family entertainer without a family to watch it.
