    PVR to release Chaurahen on 16 March

    MUMBAI: PVR Cinemas is gearing up to release director Rajshree Ojha’s film, Chaurahen (Crossroads), across Delhi Gurgaon, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore on 16 March.

    The film is based on short stories penned by author Nirmal Verma. An urban film about relationships and set in three cities, the film shows a Mumbai couple going through ups and downs in their relationship, an extra-marital affair in Kolkata and a father coming to terms with his son’s death in Kochi.

    Chaurahen stars Zeenat Aman, Victor Banerjee, Roopali Ganguly, Soha Ali Khan and Shayan Munshi in pivotal roles.

    Interestingly, Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter Kiera has an important role in the film. She plays Lea, who has an extramarital affair in Kolkata.

    Explaining how she got Kiera on board, Ojha disclosed, “She had watched my first film Moment (1999) which I made as a student in America. It fetched me a Student Academy Award (an Oscar competition for student films initiated by Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences). After that she evinced interest in working with me. I informed her that I was shooting in Mumbai. She said she had no issues and that’s how she came on board.”

    PVR to release Machine Gun Preacher on 9 Dec

    MUMBAI: PVR Pictures is all set to release Machine Gun Preacher on 9 December.

    The film, starring Gerard Butler, is story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing biker tough guy who found God and became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who‘ve been forced to become soldiers.

    Machine Gun Preacher is film directed by Marc Forster, who had earlier directed The Kite Runner and Quantum of Solace.

    Besides Butler, the film also stars Michelle Monaghan, Kathy Baker, Michael Shannon and Madeline Carroll among others.

    The film also teaches a lesson that anyone can make a big difference.

  • IIFFA shifted out of Ahmedabad

    IIFFA shifted out of Ahmedabad

    MUMBAI: The 3rd annual International Film Festival Ahmedabad (IFFA) that was scheduled to begin on 6 October has been shifted to New Delhi.


    Commented IFFA festival director Shiladitya Bora. “Unfortunately, we have been forced to be in a position by external factors that we can’t hold a film festival in Ahmedabad anymore. This decision has happened in circumstances that are beyond our control now. We did all, even beyond our capacity to make the film festival happen in Ahmedabad only.”


    The film selection, schedule, workshops and events in the festival will remain unchanged.


    The new schedule of the festival will be out soon. The festival is to be supported by PVR Cinemas in New Delhi.

    PVR to release five films from the slate of IFFA

    MUMBAI: PVR Cinemas has signed an MOU with International Film Festival Ahmedabad (IFFA) to release five films from among those that will be showcased at the festival. The selected ones will get a limited release under PVR‘s new label: Director‘s Cut and Director‘s Rare.


    Said IFFA founder and festival director Shiladitya Bora, “Every filmmaker wants to show his/her film in theaters to the public but normally independent films are turned down by distributors. We understand this very well and we want IFFA to bridge that gap by pioneering such an initiative.”


    Initially, films in PVR Director‘s Cut will be screened in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, after which the selected five films will travel to other PVR Cinemas across major metropolitan cities under a new brand of PVR Director‘s Rare.
     
    PVR Ltd VP of films & marketing Shalu Sabharwal and PVR Cinemas programming head Prakhar Joshi will be instrumental in selecting the films.


    Said PVR Limited COO Gautam Dutta, “We brought a new experience for the audiences when we launched our first multiplex and today we want to take it to a step forward by being the first ones to release a series of special non-mainstream niche films that are director‘s signature works under our new label of Director‘s Cut & Director‘s Rare which otherwise would never get a release.”


    Popular fusion band Indian Ocean will perform on the opening day of the 3rd edition of the IFFA, while the closing day will see the Asian premiere of Anurag Kashyap‘s That Girl in Yellow Boots.


    The festival begins on 24 and closes on 28 of August.

    PVR partners Warner Bros to launch Harry Potter film festival


    MUMBAI: Multiplex major PVR Cinemas has entered into an exclusive partnership with Warner Bros Pictures for a Harry Potter Film Festival in India.


    The seven-day festival, scheduled from 7 – 13 July, will bring back the nostalgia of all the Harry Potter movies across three cities – Gurgaon (PVR Ambience Mall), Mumbai (PVR Phoenix Mill) and Bangalore (PVR Forum Mall), the company said.


    The tickets will be priced at the lowest band in the respective cinemas. Festival passes for the entire seven movies will also be available for all Harry Potter fans. The festival will culminate with the premiere of the latest release of the series – Harry Potter Deathly Hollows Part II on Wednesday, 13 July at PVR Priya New Delhi and PVR Cinemas in Bangalore and Chennai.

    During the Harry Potter Film Festival screenings, PVR Cinemas said that it will also provide an experience of Harry Potter’s fantasy land to its movie lovers. The PVR staff will wear specially designed Harry Potter tees, there will be innovative on screen and web promotions by Warner Bros for the festival; specially designed Harry Potter corners at selected PVR Cinemas will be set up – this will comprise gaming consoles, movie merchandise, drawing competition, Harry Potter lookalike contest and other fun activities.
