NEW DELHI: STV Enterprises Ltd will launch three regional news channels, group chairperson J K Jain told Indiantelevision.com. The company, which already runs Punjab Today, will formally announce the launch on 30 August.
The channels – Goa News, Haryana News and UP News – are on test signals. While in Goa and Haryana, the channels have achieved almost total connectivity, in UP there are distribution issues which are yet to be sorted out.
The three channels will function independently for their day to day work and operations will be headed by executive director Gokul Kumar in Goa and Dharampal Dhankar will look after Haryana while Pradeep Sharma will look after Punjab Today. The CEO chief editor Sanjay Dwivedi will be in charge of all the three channels.
“Regional channels are the most happening thing today and I believe that advertisers will flock to them because of higher penetration into all areas of the state. Hence we are avoiding going national at the moment,” Jain said.
When asked how a small state like Goa would manage to run a 24×7 news channel, he said, “Local content is exploding and there are so many things that are specifically Goan, like football, local culture. Hence programming is not an issue that is of worry.”
Meanwhile, STV has already applied to run on DD Direct Plus, Prasar Bharati’s DTH service platform. “When that happens we shall be seen everywhere in the country and outside,” Jain said, adding that he is in discussion with the private DTH players Dish TV and Tata Sky.
Punjab Today, the news channel that had faced political repression, is recovering gradually, Jain said, adding that it has been forced out of the local cable operators only in some places of the state. “They did so initially, but gradually many LCOs have returned because it is a hugely popular channel in the state,” he said.

JumpTV to offer 3 Sahara channels
MUMBAI: Jump TV, a global player in the delivery of international television over the internet, has added three more channels to its basket of Indian channels. The online television platform player will be offering general entertainment channel SaharaOne TV, movie channel Filmy and a news channel Sahara Samay.
Recently, SaharaOne Media and Entertainment had entered into a long term deal with New York based broadcast distribution outfit GloboSat Entertainment in order to help the company launch its channel services at various countries.
Sahara One, Sahara Samay and Sahara Filmy will be priced individually at US$9.95 per month when launched commercially and will likely become part of a future bundle of South Asian channels, according to an official release.
JumpTV, at present, offers other Indian channels such as Sony, India TV, Amitra TV, Kairali TV, People TV, Punjab Today and Balle Balle.
JumpTV International president and chief executive officer Kaleil Isaza Tuzman said, “Hindi is the fifth most spoken language in the world. The addition of these channels makes it easier for the millions of Hindi speaking people living outside South Asia to remain connected to the television programming they know and love from home.”

JumpTV commercially launches Punjab Today and Balle Balle
MUMBAI: Online television network JumpTV has commercially launched Punjab Today, India’s first, regional 24-hour news channel, and the music channel Balle Balle.
For a monthly subscription of $9.95 each, all news and entertainment reports from India can now be accessed to both stations on the internet- enabled device of their choice. JumpTV subscribers worldwide can now watch around-the-clock news coverage on Punjab Today. Some of the station’s top-rated programs include: Khabran Bollywood Diyan, a weekly show discussing the major happenings in Bollywood; the political program Siyasi Halcha and Sohna Punjab, focusing on Punjab’s heritage and culture.
Additionally, with the commercial launch of Balle Balle, the latest Punjabi and Hindi music videos are now available to JumpTV’s subscribers. JumpTV to beef up India operations; signs Cutting Edge Media as representative
MUMBAI: JumpTV, a global player in the delivery of international television over the internet, has entered into a strategic partnership with Cutting Edge Media, one of India’s independent media sales company, to expand JumpTV’s presence in South Asia.
JumpTV will work with Cutting Edge Media to secure new broadcast agreements using internet protocol; enter into distribution agreements for JumpTV’s global TV roster with Indian cable, mobile telephony, and IPTV providers and build on JumpTV’s existing menu of South Asian television content.
