IPL team Rising Pune Supergiants launch new jersey

MUMBAI: Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS), the new entrant in the ninth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), unveiled the team’s official jersey in striking new colours in New Delhi today, in the presence of the team owner RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka and team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The team management also announced the appointment of ex-Indian cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar as the assistant coach of the side.

Speaking on the occasion Goenka said, “On behalf of the entire family of Rising Pune Supergiants, I would like to congratulate the team’s think tank for putting up a formidable side for the upcoming season of IPL. With so many achievers and successful cricketers in our ranks we look forward to a solid performance and some electrifying camaraderie on field. Pune has a very strong fan base and they appreciate good cricket, we are looking forward to a new home and come April, the city of Pune will have their own team to cheer for.”

Dhoni spoke about his new role as the captain of RPS, saying, “I am looking forward to a new experience with the RPS. IPL has always been the breeding ground for new exciting talents who have the potential to play vital part in the future for the Indian Cricket Team. This year we have a very balanced side with the right combination of youth and experience which is essential for any team to succeed. We have got some big hitters and players who know to bind the innings together by putting on partnerships. Both batting and bowling unit looks good on paper but consistent performance will be the yardstick for judging the team. I am really looking forward to working with the new team management and hopefully we can make the people of Pune happy with our performance.”

    RPS logo and jersey rationale

The elements used in the jersey connote the dynamism and ‘ever-rising’ spirit of the team RPS. The colours used are vibrant and complement each other in bringing out the winning attitude of the team. Of the colours on the jersey, purple in particular makes a statement of superiority and brings out the energy of this team of stars. “The orange colour signifies the team’s firm determination and enthusiasm to break every barrier, thus winning every game. The bold look of the jersey reflects the confidence and ability of this team of star players who have their sights set firmly on success,” said an official statement from RPS.

The word ‘Rising’ at a deeper level traces back to the free spirit of ‘Pune’ that never bowed down before any odds. Moreover, it also depicts the heights of excellence and success the new team will achieve being studded with ‘Super’ players like Dhoni, Ashwin, and Smith. Every player in the team is a star who shines bright in every battle, giving their best under pressure. In that sense they are also ‘Giants’ with extraordinary stature, performing astonishing feats.

The logo has a regal feel and its visual elements are an amalgamation of cricketing equipment like the bat, the ball and the bails. The wings impart an overall impression of ‘soaring high’ while the bold font provides a sense of solidity. The purple colour of the ball signifies the energy and stability of the team.

RPS will be having ex-New Zealand Skipper Stephen Fleming as the Coach of the side. The team will also have a professional CEO in Raghu Iyer, who is a Sports, Media and Entertainment professional with 21 years of invaluable experience. Prior to joining the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, he was with Rajasthan Royals since its inception.

  • IPL: Sanjeev Goenka’s New rising wins bid for Pune team, Intex wins Rajkot

IPL: Sanjeev Goenka’s New rising wins bid for Pune team, Intex wins Rajkot

MUMBAI: The speculations are finally over. The Indian Premier League (IPL) will be an eight team affair in 2016 as the Board Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) auctioned the two new franchises, Pune and Rajkot. Sanjeev Goenka’s New Rising won Pune franchisee while the Rajkot team is owned by the mobile phone manufacturer Intex.

The two interim teams will not get a slice of BCCI’s franchise revenue instead Goenka’s will dish out Rs 16 crore, while Intex will pay Rs 10 crore to the board as they acquired the franchises for the respective amount in the reverse bidding process.

Pune and Rajkot will now have the option to choose from the top five players of CSK and RR. This will be decided during a players draft on 15 December 2015.

After series of controversies, rounds of introspection, intervention by the Supreme Court of India, the BCCI decided to ban the N Srinivasan owned Chennai Super Kings and Raj Kundra’s Rajasthan Royals for two years.

The decision posed a grave threat to the IPL fixture that would have otherwise been curtailed to an event with just six teams, and hence a lower number of matches. With the inclusion of the two new teams the tourney is back to eight teams. So the official broadcaster Multi Screen Media will have the same time span to monetise the cash rich league.

The rights acquisition cost were sold at $1 billion for a period of ten years to Multi Screen Media (MSM) which will conclude after 2017 edition.

  • Continental Wrestling Entertainment to be kick-started by Great Khali to promote wrestling in India

Continental Wrestling Entertainment to be kick-started by Great Khali to promote wrestling in India

The Great Khali, who had emerged as the champion at World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) IN 2007, has today announced the launch of his Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE).

The new venture was formally launched by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat who invited the tall Khali to kick-start the first event of CWE on February 2016 with a two-day spectacle of international standard fights to be held in Uttarakhand.

The Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand was slated to host the National Games in 2018 and the event in February would also be used to encourage more people from the state to come forward for sports. He said two stadiums were being built for the purpose in Haldwani and Dehradun. Rawat added that he was sending six or seven wrestlers to Punjab to train under the tutelage of Khali at his academy in Jalandhar.

The CWE would initially train around forty wrestlers, Khali whose real name is Dalip Singh Rana and who stands 7 feet 3 inches tall. check this sentence

In fact, Rawat had to stand on a stool to put a shawl around Khali while welcoming him, providing a great photographic moment.

Rawat said “I have always said that the youth is not just our future but also our present and in a young country and state like ours their development and betterment is of prime importance to any ruling dispensation. I was really impressed by what Khali is attempting to do with this very popular modern day version of one of our most traditional sports – Wrestling.”  He said the aim of his youth outreach initiative, #CM4Youth, was to understand the aspirations of the young and draw up programmes to fulfill these.

“Pro-wrestling is very popular with the Uttarakhandi youth. Khali’s own story of his rise from being a very ordinary worker in the hills to being amongst the world’s greatest pro-wrestlers ever through single minded focus, hard work and absolute dedication is nothing short of inspirational”, he added.

Others present included Ranjit Rawat and Haripal Rawat, both conveners of #CM4Youth, IBS CEO Amardeep Singh., and leading sporting luminary Jaspal Rana. The CWE programme will focus on aggressively promoting the sport in India as well as scouting and developing pro-wrestling talent from across the country.

Khali said that talks were on with different television channels who want to cover his events, but declined to give further details.

Commenting on the reason behind this initiative, Khali said: “I have come a long way since my humble beginning as an ordinary stone cutter in the hills. A simple response to a chance question by a Punjab police inspector who passed me one day while I was working along a road, changed my life for ever. He asked me why was I working so hard even after my shift was completed. My response that unlike others I had a bigger stomach to fill and thus needed to work harder than the rest landed me a job in Punjab police. For the first time in my life, when I got my second salary there, I could actually buy a TV; a decision that changed my life forever – I not just got introduced to wrestling through seeing WWE but decided to make it my passion and profession.”

“My journey was not at all simple to say the least. Having gone through all the trials and tribulations of setting out on a journey to conquer the world of pro-wrestling with only my ambition in hand and then being able to rise to the zenith at the world platform, I was determined even while in the United States that I would return to my country and help create the right platform and facilities for my fellow Indians to also make it big in this sport.” Added the wrestler.

He further went on to say that the Uttarakhand CM had agreed to help his endeavour without any pre-conditions as it was a very good initiative for the youth.

The fights which are scheduled for February 2016 will feature both international as well as Indian pro-wrestlers including The Great Khali himself.

Asked why he was not participating in the WWE Live event in India, he indicated that he had not been invited but would love to wrestle with Americans on Indian soil. He said that he had gone through a lot of difficulty when he landed there in 2006 and used to sleep in the ring after the day’s matches as he had no other place to go to!

The spectacle of International standard fights will be held in association with specialist sports and brand management company, ‘Integrated Brand Solutions (IBS)’ and will be supported by Harish Rawat’s ‘#CM4Youth’. IBS is a full service Brand solutions agency dedicated to maximizing experiences and ROI for client brands. With offices in Mumbai, Pune, Dehradun, Delhi, Bangalore, US & UK and through its extensive partner network span across the globe, it ensures seamless geographic and product outreach to discerning clients.

  • Home cooked food at click of a button…

Home cooked food at click of a button…

MUMBAI: Food is emerging as one of the most interesting territory in the online business world (e-commerce). If international brands like Dominos, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut amongst others had expectations of running a monopoly when it came to home delivery or accepting orders online, they must rethink and re-strategize. One who stays out of home misses home cooked food, or food cooked by home chef and it is this consumer behaviour which has laid the foundation stone for the startup Cyberchef.

Just after completing her Masters in Marketing and Strategy from Warwick Business School Neha Puri (CEO and founder) teamed up with her brother Anuj Puri to start Cyberchef.

The concept of Cyberchef is different than the local tiffin service providers as it delivers food, selected online by customers and then prepared by home chefs at their residency, which then is handpicked by the venture and delivered at the customers’ doorstep. Based on the demand placed by customers, orders are given to these home chefs, who then have adequate time to prepare the meal.

The venture started its operation in Gurgaon and has so far roped in 55 home chefs who prepare different cuisines on a daily basis. Launched a month back, the startup delivers more than 450 orders per week in Delhi-NCR.

Speaking to Indiantelevision.com Neha Puri says, “We have a number of repeat customers which proves that they are satisfied with our service and that’s a huge encouragement for us.”

In terms of marketing strategy, flyers and road shows are the areas where the venture aspires to explore. Cyberchef has already organised number of road shows in NCR to generate awareness. Apart from that it has associated with many grocery joints to explore joint marketing opportunities.

Hygiene and quality of food are the major criterion for a chef to be a part of Cyberchef. “We are very particular about hygiene factor, so before roping in any chef we visit their house and inspect the cooking arena. Also we do surprise visits and chefs are aware of that so they always keep it clean and tidy. Chefs don’t need to have any professional training or certificates. What they need is just the culinary art needs to be accepted by customers,” asserts Puri.

The venture follows a 60-40 revenue model where 60 per cent goes to the chefs and 40 per cent comes to the organisation. For now sales is the only source of revenue for Cyberchef. “With the help of our marketing we want to enhance our sales, also rope in corporate contracts where we will be serving orders to mass. We have already started party orders where we take bulk orders for party.”

The venture has expansion in its pipeline and Mumbai and Pune are the locations they are targeting. “We already have 20 chefs registered with us in Mumbai and we are getting more entries, Mumbai is next and then we will go to Pune once the monsoon settles. Post that we are looking towards Bengaluru. We sense good opportunities in all these places. In the next two years, I want Cyberchef to be a leader in the food space and have presence in over six cities,” Puri concludes.
