  • Vidnet Summit 2024: How technology is driving the customer streaming experience

Vidnet Summit 2024: How technology is driving the customer streaming experience

Mumbai: The OTT business in India is buzzing with new streamers, niche, and language offerings. However, early players are struggling as heavy content spending isn’t matching revenues, and India-specific low pricing hasn’t spurred subscriptions. Growth has plateaued as consumers return to post-COVID normalcy, preferring to binge occasionally.

Adding to the churn is the shift towards AVOD by giants like JioCinema, offering premium events like cricket for free, with Disney+Hotstar following suit. This has strained streaming bottom lines. The rise of FAST channels is also causing industry jitters. Vidnet explored the future of the streaming ecosystem.

The session head for this panel was Publicis Groupe India managing partner & head of Publicis Commerce India Anshul Garg along with other panelists: travelxp CEO Tanay Chothani, Planetcast COO – Digital Venugopal Iyengar and Prime Focus Technologies senior VP, Sales & BD-APAC Anupam Sharma.

Garg discussed technological advancements in the OTT industry, also opening the session to the panelist on how improvements in video streaming, such as high-definition video, low-latency streaming, and adaptive bitrate streaming, significantly enhance the quality and reliability of the customer streaming experience.

Sharma noted the nature of localisation. He noted that language localisation enhances content accessibility, with AI playing a crucial role in text localisation while experiments continue for voice localisation.

Chothani said the importance of delivering substantial value swiftly, is driven by decreasing customer attention spans and rapid innovation.

Lastly, Iyengar highlighted the rapid advancements in viewer experience. He pointed out that platforms like Amazon are at the forefront, leveraging innovations such as multicam views and second-screen interactions to enhance viewer engagement.

  • L&K Saatchi & Saatchi India’s new film for Zee Sarthak challenges menstrual discrimination

L&K Saatchi & Saatchi India’s new film for Zee Sarthak challenges menstrual discrimination

Mumbai: L&K Saatchi & Saatchi, part of Publicis Groupe India, has unveiled a thought-provoking film to celebrate the ‘Naali Bindu’ (Red Dot) initiative by Zee Sarthak, an Odia general entertainment channel.

The initiative addresses the continued isolation faced by approximately 28 per cent of girls in India while having their periods, perpetuated by the misbelief that their shadows are impure. Using ‘Rabana Chhaya’, a dying traditional art form of shadow puppetry from Odisha, the film poignantly portrays the story of a girl subjected to this taboo and orthodox belief. Its powerful narrative aims to raise awareness and challenge menstrual discrimination.

The use of shadow puppetry in the campaign is symbolic; it reflects the shadowy stigma surrounding menstruation and challenges the notion that something as natural as a girl’s shadow can be impure. Odisha is a unique state where menstruation is celebrated during the Raja Parba festival. This cultural backdrop provides a powerful contrast to prevailing societal beliefs. The film will be aired on both television and digital platforms.

L&K Saatchi & Saatchi India’s ability to craft impactful narratives aligns perfectly with Zee Sarthak’s mission to challenge regressive norms. This campaign is a testament to the agency’s capacity to empower brands and communities, fostering deeper connections and promoting social progress.

L&K Saatchi & Saatchi India chief creative officer Rohit Malkani said, “Our association with Zee Sarthak and Nali Bindu is something we hold very dear. Every year, the entire team including our client puts on their thinking caps a month or so before Raja Parba to create a piece of communication that endears, cuts through and most importantly undoes a social knot. This year we are super proud of a creative output that not only seeks to highlight a social prejudice but revives a traditional art form as well.”

Zee Sarthak chief channel officer Pratik Seal added, “As a channel deeply rooted in cultural contexts, we understand the importance of addressing and challenging regressive norms. Our Naali Bindu initiative is an effort to eradicate menstrual discrimination and promote dignity and respect for young girls. By using Rabana Chhaya, we not only bring attention to a critical issue but also honour a traditional art form, thus driving impact and cultural significance.”

Publicis India Crafts “Fabulously Futuristic” campaign for Enamor’s new lingerie

Mumbai: Publicis India, part of Publicis Groupe India, has unveiled its latest campaign, “Fabulously Futuristic,” for Enamor, India’s premier lingerie brand. This groundbreaking campaign celebrates the active, modern woman and highlights the features of Enamor’s revolutionary “Innovations” line.

Developed by Publicis India, “Fabulously Futuristic” is a series of six digital films that breaks away from traditional lingerie advertising and showcases the limitless power and grace inherent to everyday activities. Every film focuses on a product from the “Innovations” line-up, showcasing the unique features of each.

The films showcase women in activities that embody strength and beauty, seamlessly integrating the product range while highlighting the unique benefits of each garment, such as flexibility, breathability, cooling support with N9 temperature control technology, eco-friendly fabrics and gel-filled cups for superior comfort and support.

Publicis India’s ability to craft impactful narratives aligns perfectly with Enamor’s desire to showcase “Innovation” in a beautiful and inspiring way. This campaign is a testament to the agency’s ability to empower brands and consumers, connecting them on a deeper level.

“Enamor has been at the forefront of innovation in the category for a long time. So, for the Innovations range campaign, we wanted the brand to claim what it rightfully owns. It showcases stylish, strong women flexing their bodies and possibilities in moments of complete unabashed freedom that the cutting-edge technology in the bras support them with. We chose artforms like ballet and aerial yoga to power punch the ‘proof of concepts’ beautifully. The music and movements are all a celebration of the Enamor woman’s free spirit as she moves into a fabulous future,” said Publicis India joint national creative directors Shitu Patil & Aman Mannan.

The campaign itself comes from a basic human truth, said Enamor senior VP of marketing Sandra Daniels. “Lingerie is an extremely personal and fundamental part of a woman’s life. Not only is it a product she uses every single day, but also an essential experience for her as a woman. She wants to ensure that she is picking a piece that is perfect in every way- be it the perfect fit, the perfect fabric or the perfect style. With the Innovations campaign, we have aimed to address these concerns and all with the objective of allowing women to have the best lingerie experience, so they can be completely free and comfortable to explore and experience their most fabulous self.”

  • L&K Saatchi & Saatchi unveils Cooling Tomorrow Together campaign for SRF Floron AC Gas

L&K Saatchi & Saatchi unveils Cooling Tomorrow Together campaign for SRF Floron AC Gas

Mumbai: L&K Saatchi & Saatchi, part of Publicis Groupe India, has conceptualised the latest campaign for SRF Floron AC gas, a SRF Limited brand. Titled ‘Cooling Tomorrow Together’, the campaign comprises two films that will be aired exclusively on JioCinema at the Indian Premier League.

One of the dominant players in the air conditioning and cooling refrigerants industry, SRF Limited seeks to highlight the crucial role of AC refrigerants in staying cool during the summer. The two 10-second advertisements establish the “We Cool (AC): What Keeps You Cool” narrative.

The films take an exaggerated, humorous route, depicting two extreme scenarios where the protagonists do not get angry despite provocation.

Depicting everyday situations, the first ad shows a driver staying calm as his expensive car gets hit on an empty road. The second ad showcases a husband being saved from his wife’s fury when he forgets about his dinner date and falls asleep, all thanks to the superior cooling power of SRF Floron AC gas.

Through these light-hearted narratives, the campaign effectively highlights the product’s key benefit: its ability to maintain car and room temperature, promoting a sense of calm and well-being for drivers and consumers alike.

L&K Saatchi & Saatchi CCO Rohit Malkani in India said, “It isn’t easy to advertise or tell a story about a product that is neither seen nor heard. We went in search of an ‘Oh! I never knew Floron did that!’ idea. We aimed to bring the AC refrigerant out of its hiding place and give it its rightful value in life situations. The result is a set of films that are fun, quirky, and delightful.”

A SRF Floron representative added, “’Cooling Tomorrow Together’ is more than just a campaign; it’s a pledge of tranquillity amidst life’s chaos. In collaboration with SRF Floron, L&K Saatchi & Saatchi has artfully captured our vision: to redefine comfort. This initiative aims to engage and enlighten consumers about the technology behind their home cooling appliances and car airconditioning, while cementing SRF Floron’s status as the ultimate choice for AC cooling gas in the market.”

MIS 2024: Catering to the digital India narrative – brands leveraging automation

Mumbai: The Media Investment Summit 2024 which is being held on 4 April at Novotel, Mumbai is a dynamic platform that aims to bring together minds from the brand, media, advertising, digital & TV fraternity to explore the ever-evolving landscape of content, Adtech, Martech, metaverse and Web 3.0, the evolution of traditional media planning and buying, data and privacy infringement and ROI on advertising.

The day-long affair is to make sure to tantalise the thoughts of those looking for answers to myriad topics under the branding, advertising, TV, digital media planning, and buying roof.

The session will cover the multifaceted role of brands leveraging automation in the digital India narrative, providing insights into the opportunities, challenges, and impact on various sectors of the economy.

The session of the event is chaired by Publicis Groupe India CEO digital technology business Amaresh Godbole, consisting of panelists including – Kotak Life EVP & head of digital business unit Prasad Pimple, GSK associate director – customer experience Delnaaz Irani, Lenovo head, corporate citizenship, Asia Pacific Pratima Harite, Fractal ink Design Studio Pvt Ltd co-founder, COO and CBO Geeta Suthar and mFilterIt head of product Arvind Mathur.

Talking about financial services being the most automated industry, Godbole asked Pimple about his insights, “I agree that the way the overall technology stack has been created, it has helped most of the brand and industries to build on automation into the purchase journeys as well as the overall customer experience management but we’re not as fortunate as the leaning business where it is simplified in terms of just financial underwriting based on credit score.”

He also spoke about financial and medical underwriting still remaining unautomated, and that a lot of work has also happened in terms of the automation perspective on the customer experience part of it. He also said, “In terms of automation, significant progress has been made in enhancing customer experience throughout the marketing funnel, from building awareness to tracking it, transitioning to consideration, purchase intent, actual purchase, and finally sharing purchase information with relevant media platforms.” He also spoke a bit about CKYC, EKYC, and the UPI moment in India during the pandemic, among other topics.

Answering Godbole’s question on the challenges in automation, in the pharma industry, Irani said, “The challenge is integrating doctors into the marketing funnel with a clear strategy for exclusive communication and validation.”

Moving on, Harite said, “When we talking about the automation i think we should look at the work for human kind project that we looked at where we were thinking of how do you revitalise millets using technology.”

Sharing her thoughts on automation, Suthar said, “Process optimisation has largely been digitisation. We identify things that are manually done or they’re not efficient and then we figure out ways in which to digitise them, put them on the cloud or some service somewhere and then join the dots to make everything seamless.”

Mathur then spoke about deploying technology, including AI and generative models, to monitor and distinguish between positive and negative elements within the system. He also spoke about the guardrails that need to be made around systems.
