    ICICI Bank strengthens support for senior citizens in West Bengal

    Mumbai: ICICI Bank has announced a range of initiatives to make banking more convenient to its senior citizen customers in West Bengal. As part of this programme, the bank has set up desks with relationship managers dedicated to service senior citizens at all branches in the state. The desks offer personalised assistance to senior citizens for various banking requirements including providing form 15H, life certificate, fixed deposits and interest certificate. In case the senior citizens want to avail of these services from the convenience of their home, they can do so digitally on the bank’s retail banking application, iMobile Pay. Additionally, the bank has made banking services available at the doorstep of senior citizens to provide improved convenience to them throughout the state.

    In order to promote these initiatives, the Bank has launched a comprehensive ad campaign titled, ‘Moner Moton Banking’ featuring Prosenjit Chatterjee and Sabyasachi Chakraborty, two renowned actors in West Bengal. The campaign was aired on popular Bengali news and entertainment channels and was supported by outdoor advertising across premium locations in the state.

    Further, ICICI Bank aims to celebrate rich cultural heritage of the state through the launch of Tarar Khonje’, a talent search exclusively for residents of West Bengal and NRIs above 50 years of age. This initiative is a part of the Bank’s overall focus to serve the senior citizens in the state. The talent search encompasses various categories including dancing, singing, poetry recitation, playing musical instruments, stand-up comedy and photography. The interested participants can submit their entries on the talent search’s official website www.tararkhonje.com.

    To ensure maximum participation from senior citizens, the talent search has reached out to over 60 housing societies including esteemed old age homes like Snehodiya and Swapnobhor.

    MUMBAI: Colors Bangla, the Bengali general entertainment channel by Viacom18 is going to launch its mega quiz show Ke Hobe Banglar Kotipoti on 16 July, Monday at 9 pm. Produced by Big Synergy, this weekday prime time game show is an adaptation from an American format named Who Wants to be a Millionaire. The show is about human stories and drama, piecing together some remarkable stories and giving such aspirants an opportunity of a lifetime that promises to transform their lives.

    Didi graces the launch of ‘ETV News Bangla’

    KOLKATA: It was a big affair when TV18 Broadcast launched the 24-hours Bengali news channel – ETV News Bangla on Monday evening. The network got West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and actor Prosenjit Chatterjee for the launch that was live telecast on the network’s general entertainment channel (GEC) – ETV Bangla and also on the other Hindi news channels whose viewership is more than 20 crore.

     

    ETV Head, Hindi & Urdu Channels Jagdish Chandra said during the launch that the test signal for the Bengali channel is on and it will go on air on 19 March in all probabilities.

     

    The event became even more interesting when the network announced its plans to launch ETV Kannad on March 19. Chandra also revealed the plans to launch ETV Gujarati news channel on 30 April, in case it is extended it would be launched by 31 May. Even ETV Oriya will be launched on 31 July.

     

    Banerjee, praising the network’s initiative, highlighted the role of the media in molding the society and said ETV’s foray into 24-hour news channel would create employment and give the audiences one more platform to watch news. Lightheartedly, she even remarked that the channel should work in a way that it becomes the ‘essential’ news channel in future.

     

    Chandra spoke elaborately on the editorial policy of the news channel and said the network follows the “news only” concept and would cover welfare and developmental news.

     

    TV18 Broadcast’s non-executive chairman Manoj Mehanka said “content is the king” and asked the journalists of the channel to work hard to get the interesting stories out to the audiences.

     

    It looks like TV 18 Broadcast is on a super active mode to make an effect in the regional news space.

    Vivel Filmfare Awards 2013 comes to the East

    KOLKATA: The Black Lady is the dream of many in the Indian film industry. For years, she has been the epitome of good talent in cinema. Now, the people belonging to the Eastern region will have an opportunity to own the Black Lady – the Filmfare Award. The first Vivel Filmfare Awards 2013 for the eastern region was announced in Kolkata with an aim to recognise the cinematic excellence in the Bengali, Oriya and Assamese films.

     

    Renowned Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee along with ITC Limited chief executive, personal care products business Sandeep Kaul and Worldwide Media, the publishers of Filmfare Magazine in Kolkata, chief executive officer Tarun Rai unveiled the iconic Black Lady on Saturday.

     

    “The Black Lady took 60 years to come to eastern region. We are working hard to finalise the list. Starting from the announcement with a press conference, we shall undertake 360 degree media campaigns including Times of India brand to promote the event,” said Rai.

     

    “This is the first year of Vivel Filmfare Awards in the east. We feel that we should have been here sooner. For long, we have wanted to come here since Bengali cinema has contributed immensely to Indian and world cinema,” said Rai.

     

    The emphasis during the announcement was on the importance of stalwarts that the eastern region has produced. It has been the cradle of Indian cinema with stalwarts like Bimal Roy, Satyajit Ray, Kishore Kumar, RD Burman among others who have created celluloid history with national and international acclaim. Last year itself Bengal made more than 100 movies. The awards are a way to recognise the growing talent of the region. There would be around 21 categories in Bengali awards category. While for Oriya and Assamese, there would be four categories each.

     

    “The 29 awards that will be handed over in various categories include 21 trophies for Bengali movies and four each for Oriya and Assamese films respectively,” said Rai.

     

    In the Assamese and Oriya segments, the four awards including Popular, Technical, Debut and Critics will be given to the four popular categories only.

     

    Prosenjit Chatterjee said though eastern region produced greatest of the talents in the film industry “we were away and not looked upon.”

     

    “Bengali cinema has crossed the golden era,” added Chatterjee.

     

    Filmfare Awards, established in the year 1953, may look at awarding the Bhojpuri and Bangladeshi films too in the time to come.

     

    However, for the time being the Black Lady is set to enter the eastern region film industry on 29 March.

    B’desh and West Bengal film industries join hands

    MUMBAI: The film industries of Bangladesh and West Bengal have come together in their zeal for mutual cooperation for co-production and exhibition of Bengali movies.

    In the presence of Bangladesh information minister Hasanul Hoque Inu, members of the two film industries announced that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be signed by them in the next few days.

    “We have always felt that the film industries at both places have been kept divided. If we can unite the two industries as one, then the resultant market would be a huge one,” said Bengali actor-producer Prosenjit Chatterjee.

    The West Bengal film industry has proposed to release all current Bengali films produced this year in Bangladesh. They also want to join hands in creating and developing cinema halls together on both sides of the border. Besides exhibition, the MoU will also harp on increasing joint venture production of films.

    “Our final target is to ensure that Bengali films get releases in both places on the same day,” Prosenjit said.
