    MUMBAI: The RuPay Pro Volleyball League is an initiative of Volleyball Federation of India and Baseline Ventures with Sony Sports Network as broadcast partners. The season 2 of the league starts on 7th February 2020. In a major boost for the Pro Volleyball League, the league has announced that they have secured a set of long-term sponsors for the league. 

    RuPay, which was the title sponsor of the league in season 1 has decided to continue its association with the league as the title sponsor for the next three seasons. Speaking on the association Chief Marketing Kunal Kalawatia stated that “We are pleased to enter into a continual association with Pro Volleyball league, which was very well accepted among the younger generation, in the inaugural season. We look forward to celebrating the youth of India with second season of RuPay Pro Volley Ball League. In terms of RuPay, our constant focus is to target next-gen customers and provide experience especially customised for them. We believe RuPay Pro Volley Ball League is an ideal platform for us to reach out to the young India”.

    Apart from securing RuPay as the title sponsor, the league has also managed to rope in Bank of Barado & Peter England as associate sponsor for the next two seasons & Nippon Paints as an associate sponsor for season 2. Sounding confident about the potential of volleyball as a sport in the country Bank of Barado GM-CC, Marketing & Corporate Communications O K Kaul said “At Bank of Baroda we are committed to working towards making India a multi-sport nation and volleyball which is one of the most widely played sport at grass roots level in the country apart from being a truly global sport, fits perfectly with our vision of being India’s International Bank”.

    The league has also managed to close long term deals with a leading fantasy game partner and an equipment partner, the details for which are also expected to be announced in the coming days.

    The season 1 of the league was a resounding success which was viewed in 45 countries across the globe. In India, the league was broadcasted on Sony Ten 3 and Sony Six with Sony Liv as the digital partner and garnered a viewership of 22 million viewers. The league was a huge hit with the fantasy gaming enthusiasts as well with 1.78 lakh players for the final with a cumulative total of 10 lakh players.

    MUMBAI: The first leg of RuPay Pro Volleyball League (PVL) which happened in Kochi witnessed 14.3 million viewers sample the league on Sony Pictures Network (SPN) India.   

    The league, which is an initiative of Baseline Ventures and the Volleyball Federation of India, began on 2 February in Kochi and will move to Chennai for the second leg starting on 16 February.

    In its first week itself, SPN India’s digital platform SonyLIV got close to 1 million viewers watching the matches. “The impressive viewership numbers are validation of our efforts for a sport like volleyball which is so spectator-friendly. The on-ground response we got in Kochi was also very heartening. The early signs are encouraging and will push us to work harder,” RuPay PVL CEO Joy Bhattacharjya said.

    The first seven matches clocked an average reach of 2.9 million. The game that garnered the highest rating was when Calicut Heroes played U Mumba Volley on 5 February with 328,000 impressions (number of viewers at any given point of time during the match). On the other hand, per match impressions were at 237,000 and average time spent per viewer per match stood at 11 minutes.

    SPN India chief revenue officer distribution and head – sports business Rajesh Kaul said, “The response from the inaugural PVL is in line with our expectations. Audience engagement has been very high both on-screen and on-ground as well, with over 14 million viewers across India tuning into Sony SIX and Sony TEN 3 channels to watch RuPay PVL so far. While the sport has always had a strong following in the South, it is exciting to see markets like Assam. West Bengal, Gujarat and Haryana also showing great interest. This is a clear indication of the widening interest amongst audiences for multi-sports, which has been a key focus area for us to build the sporting environment in the country.”

    Even the volleyball fantasy game built by MyTeam11 has seen a consistent rise in daily users leading the company to double to prize pool from Rs 50 thousand to Rs 1 lakh. From the initial days of the league with 15 thousand gaming participants, the platform has now touched over 49,000 fans.

    The second leg of the RuPay PVL starts from February 16 2019 in Chennai at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium where Chennai Spartans will take on U Mumba Volley.

    MUMBAI: RuPay, the flagship product of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), acquired the title sponsorship rights of India’s newest franchise-based sports league, the Pro Volleyball League, which is set to start on 2 February. 

    Conceived to fulfil the vision of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) of offering a domestic card payment system to all banks and financial institutions in India, RuPay will be the league’s title sponsor that takes off with six franchises from six different cities.

    An initiative of Baseline Ventures and Volleyball Federation of India, the league will now be called the RuPay Pro Volleyball League in its first season. Expressing his delight on this association, RuPay SVP – marketing Kunal Kalawatia said, “RuPay is the preferred card for 60 crore Indians and 1100+ banks issue a RuPay Card today. Like RuPay powering the digital payments initiative, we believe that Pro Volleyball league will bring this sport to the forefront and connect the nation with a common spirit. With RuPay Pro Volley Ball League we want to celebrate the power of a young & healthy India.”

    The inaugural edition of the league will begin with Kochi Blue Spikers taking on U Mumba Volley on 2 February at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Kochi.  The six teams that were announced in November 2018 will play each other in a round robin format in the first season that will have 18 matches.

U Mumba Volley is owned by U Sports, who also own a team in the Kabaddi league while Black Hawks Hyderabad is owned by Agile Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. Thomas Muthoot owns the Kochi franchise called the Kochi Blue Spikers.

    All the matches starting from 2 February will be broadcasted live on Sony Six and Sony Ten 3 and will be streamed live on Sony LIV.

    MUMBAI: Pro Volleyball League stars Mohan Ukkrapandian from Kochi Blue Spikets (L) and Ranjit Singh from Ahmedabad Defenders (R) present the official UMumba jersey to Mumbaikar and cricketing legend, Sunil Gavaskar, who is a panellist on Sony Pictures Networks India’s live studio show, Extraaa Innings. The inaugural edition of Pro Volleyball League featuring the best of Indian and international athletes starts on February 2, 2019 and will be telecast exclusively on the sports channels of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN).

Ltd., Kerala's Calicut Heroes is owned by Beacon Sports while the Chennai Spartans is owned by Chennai Spartans Pvt. Ltd. U Mumba Volley is owned by U Sports, who also own a team in the Kabaddi league while Black Hawks Hyderabad is owned by Agile Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. Thomas Muthoot owns the Kochi franchise called the Kochi Blue Spikers.

    Pro Volleyball League’s first season will be held in two volleyball hotbeds of India i.e. Kochi (Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium) and Chennai (Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium). Each of the six teams will have 12 players including two foreign players and two Indian U-21 players. The league will be played over a total of 18 matches with each team playing each other once in a round-robin format and the top four teams qualifying for the semi-finals. All the matches will be broadcasted live on Sony Six and Sony Ten 3 and will be streamed live on Sony LIV.

    MUMBAI: Nippon Paint (India) Private Limited Asia’s leading paint manufacturer has come on board as an associate sponsor for the first two seasons of the upcoming Pro Volleyball League. India’s newest franchise-based sporting league is an initiative of Baseline Ventures and the Volleyball Federation of India, and is set to begin on 2nd February 2019 with participation from some of the biggest international and national volleyball stars. Nippon Paint is no stranger to Indian sports as they are already the official sponsors of IPL champions Chennai Super Kings and also the current ISL Champions Chennaiyan FC in multi-year deals.

    MUMBAI: With the league a couple of months away, volleyball fans across the country were treated to the first promo of Pro Volleyball League on Wednesday. The promo of the league which is an initiative of Baseline Ventures Pvt. Ltd.  and the Volleyball Federation of India features 2008 Olympic Gold medalist David Lee along with players from the Indian team. India’s ace shuttler PV Sindhu, whose father represented India in Volleyball can also be seen cheering on the players in the action packed 30 second commercial.

    The first season of the league which will commence in February 2019 will feature six teams and will comprise of a total of 18 matches.  Each team will play each other once in a round robin format and the top 4 will qualify for the semi-finals. The matches will be held in cities of Chennai and Kochi.

    Each team will comprise of 12 players including 2 Foreign Players, 1 Indian Icon Player and 2 Indian U-21 players. The rest of the players will be from a pool Indian Senior Players and other domestic players.

    The league has signed a multi-year broadcast deal with Sony Pictures Network and will be aired on Sony Six, Sony Ten 3 and Sony Liv. The first season will begin on 2nd February and the league will stage its first final on 23rd February. The six franchises that will feature in the first season will be announced on 26th November.

    Sony India bets on Pro Volleyball League

    MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) India has signed a multi-year deal with Baseline Ventures and Volleyball Federation of India (VFI), to broadcast the inaugural season of the Pro Volleyball League in February 2019. SPN will broadcast all 18 matches of the Pro Volleyball League live across its sports channels.

    Pro Volleyball League will give budding Indian athletes a platform to hone their skill and compete against some of the leading players from across the world.

    Excitement around the league has been building up steadily with volleyball being a sport that attracts people from all walks of life, from local villages’ rural areas to urban international schools all over India.

    Sony Pictures Networks India president sports and distribution business Rajesh Kaul said, “At SPN our focus has always been to promote a multi-sport culture in India and Pro Volleyball League is the perfect addition to our sports portfolio. Volleyball is an extremely popular sport in n key markets like South and North India, producing world class players. From early discussions we realised that our values are completely aligned with Baseline Ventures’ – nurturing the development of various sports in India and we are happy to be on-board for the Pro Volleyball League.”

    The current league structure will consist of 18 matches, which will be played across two indoor venues. The teams will consist of men from the national teams across all FIVB (the international governing body of the sport) member nations, with a predominant Indian player pool. Player auctions are scheduled for later this year and franchise-owners can bid for the Indian players from a bank of over 90 players, while the foreign players will be recruited via player draft.
