Prime Video reels in Maddock Films with blockbuster eight-film deal

MUMBAI: When it comes to streaming, Prime Video clearly isn’t afraid of commitment. The platform has just inked a multi-year global licensing deal with Maddock Films, securing exclusive streaming rights to eight upcoming films that will drop on Prime shortly after their theatrical run. The pact makes Prime Video the one-stop home for Maddock’s celebrated horror-comedy universe, including the upcoming Thama and two yet-to-be-titled instalments slated to roll out between 2025 and 2027. The deal follows the monster success of Stree 2, which didn’t just scare up big numbers at the box office but also streamed to blockbuster status on Prime, amassing a global fandom well beyond India.

The eight-film slate packs serious star power. Topping the line-up is Param Sundari, headlined by Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, premiering in cinemas on 29 August 2025 before making its digital debut on Prime. Franchise fever continues with Shiddat 2 and Badlapur 2, both extending Maddock’s well-loved cinematic worlds. Also in the mix is Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan and starring Agastya Nanda, along with other unannounced titles.

The partnership is not new Maddock and Prime Video have a track record of shared hits, from theatrical-to-digital blockbusters like Stree, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and Stree 2, to the co-produced Bhool Chuk Maaf, and the Prime Original Jee Karda.

“From our horror-comedy universe to our most beloved franchises, our endeavour has always been to create worlds that audiences love to revisit,” said Maddock Films CEO & founder Dinesh Vijan adding that the deal marks a natural extension of their shared goal to take Indian stories global.

Prime Video India director and head of content licensing Manish Menghani echoed the sentiment: “This multi-film slate not only builds on Maddock’s popular franchises but also delivers fresh storytelling that travels across geographies.”

With streaming rights locked across 240 plus countries and territories, Prime Video is betting big on Maddock’s mix of chills, thrills, and sequels ensuring its members can binge the blockbusters long after the popcorn’s gone cold.

  • Prime Video’s teen drama smashes viewership records

Prime Video’s teen drama smashes viewership records

MUMBAI: Prime Video’s sun-soaked coming-of-age saga, The Summer I Turned Pretty, has returned in blazing form. Season 3 premiered on 16 July, drawing 25 million unique viewers worldwide in its opening week, a 40 per cent leap from Season 2 and a threefold surge since the show’s debut.

Backed by Jenny Han’s book-to-screen vision and fuelled by Taylor Swift’s soundtrack magic, the series has cemented its place as a Gen Z obsession. It now ranks as Prime Video’s most-watched TV season among women aged 18–34 and its fifth most-viewed returning season overall.

Sharing her elation on the smashing success of the series, creator, showrunner, and executive producer Jenny Han said, “Seeing how ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ has resonated with millions—how the story has sparked so many fan conversations, sent the books back on the bestseller lists, and inspired so many viewers’ reactions across social media—it’s everything I could have hoped for and more. As creator and co-showrunner, I’m incredibly proud of what we made. I’m grateful we got to make all three seasons, one for each book, and grateful that audiences have been so passionately embracing the story I wanted to tell.”

Amazon MGM Studios head of TV content, Vernon Sanders explained how the decision to release Season 3 episodes weekly, despite heightened anticipation from fans, was a deliberate move. He said, “This has been a strategy that we’ve rolled out with our second seasons and beyond — whether that’s with ‘The Boys’ or ‘Reacher,’ even ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Season 2 was weekly. And we see that the audience, even though they’re craving every episode, we’re able to engage them in a longer conversation. And it’s great for the service, because we have people coming back week after week. But that discussion, the community that gets built by having that shared experience and being in one conversation, we see lots of benefits to it. So when and where it makes sense, we’ll keep doing that.” Additionally, the 12 a.m. PT/3 a.m. ET release time aims to streamline messaging and accommodate global viewers.

Adding to the frenzy, the showrunners recently urged fans to keep their passion playful rather than personal, reminding viewers not to blur lines between the fictional heartbreak on screen and the cast bringing it to life.

With new episodes dropping every Wednesday until 17 September, this final season finds Belly (Lola Tung) torn between Jeremiah and Conrad, as love triangles, nostalgia and messy feelings collide one last time.

Prime Video is streaming all three seasons in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, proof that summer heartbreak now has a truly global language.

  • Stripes on Screen as BBC Player Roars with Tiger Day Special

Stripes on Screen as BBC Player Roars with Tiger Day Special

MUMBAI: From Ranthambore with roar. This World Tiger Day, BBC Player is sinking its claws into the untamed heart of India with Legendary Tigers of India, a gripping documentary that prowls onto screens this Independence Day, 15 August . Narrated by the late, legendary conservationist Valmik Thapar, the film is more than just stripes and stares. It’s a moving chronicle of survival, strength, and the shifting story of India’s national animal. Thapar, one of the world’s foremost tiger experts, spent a full monsoon-to-monsoon year tracking a new generation of Bengal tigers deep within Ranthambore, one of India’s most iconic tiger reserves.

With intimate access and five decades of experience behind the lens and in the wild, Thapar offers rare glimpses of tigers not just as apex predators, but as emotionally complex, intuitive creatures navigating shrinking habitats and growing human presence.

The film roars to life from Thapar’s own jungle home at the forest’s edge, blending dramatic visuals with a deeply personal narrative. From mother cub dynamics to solitary alpha males, the documentary captures the instinctual ballet of survival, mating, territoriality and raw jungle drama woven through the lens of ecological urgency and reverence.

Premiering exclusively on BBC Player in India via Tata Play Binge and Prime Video (add-on subscription required), this special release is BBC’s tribute to India’s tiger legacy. With India currently home to more than 70 per cent of the world’s wild tigers 3,682, as per the 2023 census the documentary feels both timely and timeless.

In an age of noisy content, Legendary Tigers of India invites audiences to pause, listen, and marvel. Not just at the majesty of the tiger, but at a conservation journey that began with 1,411 tigers in 2006 and roared back in triumph. This isn’t just a documentary. It’s a call to protect what still prowls.

  • Prime Video’s new campaign says it all: laugh, cry, love, repeat

Prime Video’s new campaign says it all: laugh, cry, love, repeat

MUMBAI: Prime Video is wearing its heart on its sleeve. In a snazzy new brand campaign titled ‘Every kind of emotion. It’s on Amazon Prime’, the streaming giant is trading in genres for gut punches, spotlighting its diverse catalogue through the lens of pure feeling.

The campaign features two punchy ad films—one with national treasure Manoj Bajpayee and another with South sensation Samantha—each crafted for specific markets. But the message is universal: Prime Video isn’t just about what you watch, it’s about what you feel.

Comedy that’s awkward or absurd, love that’s unspoken or unrequited, thrills that sneak or strike—this is entertainment that sticks. The campaign taps into the viewer insight that when audiences scroll for genres, they’re actually hunting for emotional hits—those little jolts of joy, nostalgia, suspense, or heartbreak.

Gone are the days of slotting stories into neat boxes. Prime Video is throwing open the doors to content that’s as layered as life itself—across languages, formats, and cultures.

“At Prime Video, we believe entertainment isn’t about ticking genre boxes—it’s about delivering experiences that emotionally connect with customers,” said Sonal Kabi, director & head of marketing, Prime Video, India. “This campaign showcases our commitment to delivering a wide range of stories that capture a gamut of feelings that our viewers can relate to. ‘Every kind of emotion. It’s on Amazon Prime’ isn’t just a line—it’s a promise we deliver, day-in and day-out through our series and movies. Great stories can come from anywhere — and our goal is to ensure audiences don’t just watch them but truly feel and connect with them. We’re proud to be a service that reflects the full spectrum of human emotions.”

Bajpayee said, “The beauty of entertainment today is that it mirrors our own complexity. Just as my character Srikant Tiwari balances national security with family life in The Family Man, Prime Video masterfully balances the full spectrum of human emotions. One moment you’re craving a thriller that keeps you on the edge, the next you’re seeking the warmth of a heartfelt story. That’s what drew me to this campaign – it captures how we truly experience and consume entertainment in our lives. It’s smart, it’s emotional, it’s completely relatable and it beautifully showcases how Prime Video has become a destination where every emotion finds its perfect match. It was fun to play a version of Srikant Tiwari who is catching feelings instead of catching bad guys for once!”

Samantha said, “Every role is an emotional journey. From embodying the intensity of Raji in The Family Man to exploring the complexities of a covert operative in Citadel: Honey Bunny – each character has pushed my boundaries in unique ways. What fascinates me is how this mirrors our own viewing habits. We don’t just watch shows; we seek emotions that resonate with our moment. Sometimes it’s the adrenaline rush of a thriller, other times it’s revisiting that one scene that touched our soul. That’s the magic Prime Video has captured – understanding that stories aren’t just about genres, they’re about the feelings they evoke. Every story has its own emotional fingerprint, and there’s something beautiful about having a service like Prime Video that celebrates every shade of human experience.”

Created by Manja, the campaign will be deployed through a rollout across digital, social, and outdoors. Suyash Barve, Head of Creative, Manja said, “As more and more content gets added to our screens, our classical understanding of genres has become too vague. There is no action on one side and romance on the other. Now, every movie and TV show is a multi-hyphenate. An action-dramedy or a political-espionage-thriller or a political-espionage-action-dramedy. Now, you can choose between comedies that make you laugh out loud, or ones that make you chuckle. Horror movies that make your heart stop, or just ones that creep you out. We used this rephrasing of genre to tell our story of range. There’s just so much to watch on Prime Video, that you simply have to be more specific. The perfect sutradhars for this journey were of course, our Family Man, Manoj Bajpayee and the star of Citadel: Honey Bunny and The Family Man antagonist, Samantha – both of whom turn a simple discussion on what to watch into a days-long crusade to prove that there’s more than one kind of funny and more than one kind of thriller.”

It’s a slick, slice-of-life sell, reinforcing Prime Video’s pitch as India’s most beloved binge-spot. From belly laughs to big sobs, it’s all on tap—and just a click away.

  • Panchayat season 4 breaks records worldwide, Prime Video confirms season 5 for 2026

Panchayat season 4 breaks records worldwide, Prime Video confirms season 5 for 2026

MUMBAI: Panchayat has done it again only bigger, sharper, and more global than ever. The rural drama returned to Prime Video with season 4 on 24 June, and within days, shattered all previous franchise records, earning its highest-ever opening week.

From trending in over 42 countries to clocking streams in 180+ nations and 95 per cent of India’s pin codes, Panchayat is no longer just small-town storytelling, it’s a full-blown global phenomenon with an Indian accent.

The show anchored by its powerhouse cast including Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Faisal Malik, Sanvikaa, Chandan Roy, and others—struck a nostalgic, satirical chord once again, proving that real storytelling doesn’t need frills, just a filter-less view of rural India.

The fan-favourite series from TVF hit the Top 10 charts on Prime Video in the USA, UK, Canada, UAE, and Australia on launch day alone. In India, it promptly claimed the #1 trending spot and made its way into living rooms across nearly every corner of the country—from bustling metros to the most remote districts.

Since its debut in 2018, Panchayat has been more than just entertainment, it’s been a cultural mirror. Season 2 bagged the first-ever Best Web Series (OTT) Award at the 54th International Film Festival of India in 2023. Each season has built steadily on the last, but season 4 has truly pushed the envelope in terms of reach and resonance.

“We are absolutely delighted with the phenomenal response to Panchayat Season 4, which has further elevated the series’ stature and set new benchmarks for authentic storytelling,” said Prime Video India director & head – content licensing, Manish Menghani. “The season’s exceptional viewership across India and in over 180 countries within its launch week is a testament to its universal appeal and deep cultural resonance. With its heartfelt narrative and relatable characters, Panchayat has evolved into a global phenomenon, transcending borders and touching audiences with its warmth, simplicity, and authenticity. This milestone not only reflects the enduring love for the series but also reinforces the growing global appetite for rooted, Indian stories. We’re excited to share that work has already begun on Season 5, and we look forward to continuing the journey of Phulera and its beloved characters.”

“It has been a truly extraordinary journey collaborating with Prime Video to bring Panchayat to life and witness its incredible growth over the years,” said The Viral Fever (TVF) president, Vijay Koshy. “This series holds a special place in our hearts, as it beautifully captures the charm, humor, and nuances of rural India, celebrating the power of simple, human storytelling. Panchayat reflects the shared vision and values we hold with Prime Video: to tell meaningful, relatable stories that resonate with audiences across geographies. We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming love season 4 has received—not just from viewers across India, but from audiences around the world. A heartfelt thank you to the incredible cast and crew whose passion and dedication made this journey possible, and to the fans whose unwavering support continues to inspire us. We’re excited for what lies ahead and look forward to bringing season 5 to audiences in 2026.”

Whether it’s the deadpan delivery of Abhishek Tripathi, the wisdom of Manju Devi, or the bureaucratic chaos of Phulera, Panchayat continues to thrive on a rare blend of wit, heart, and hyperlocal relatability.

As development on season 5 kicks off, one thing’s clear: in the age of high-stakes thrillers and big-budget spectacles, Panchayat is the quiet revolution that just won’t stop trending.

Prime Video’s Panchayat is back with Season 4, and WPP OpenDoor has pulled off a stunt that’s as grounded as Phulera and as disruptive as Kranti Devi’s election agenda. In a first-of-its-kind move, Butkun ki Dukaan—the iconic pitstop for chai, samosas, and village gossip—has been brought to life as a shoppable digital experience on Swiggy Instamart.

From 26 June to 3 July, between 4 PM and 7 PM, Instamart users across India have been greeted with a curated snack corner inspired by the show’s desi flavour. • APOS 2025: Amazon demystifies dual platform strategy and amazing road map ahead

APOS 2025: Amazon demystifies dual platform strategy and amazing road map ahead

BALI:  At the APOS 2025 summit in Bali, hosted by Media Partners Asia (MPA), Amazon’s content leadership delivered a deep dive into why India remains one of the most strategically complex yet promising media markets. Taking the stage were Prime Video  vice president, Asia Pacific & MENA  Gaurav Gandhi, Prime Video India director & head of originals  Nikhil Madhok and Amazon MX Player director & head of content Amogh Dusad. The session was moderated by MPA’s executive director and founder  Vivek Couto.

The big reveal? Amazon isn’t choosing between SVOD and AVOD in India—it’s going full throttle on both.
“India isn’t a monolith. It’s an ultra-fragmented market with vastly different consumption behaviours,” said Gandhi. “Prime Video is built for those who are already deep into the streaming habit and are willing to pay for high-quality entertainment. Amazon MX Player, now part of the Amazon fold, is designed for the mobile-first, ad-supported audience that’s still transitioning from television.”

Prime Video, Gandhi said, is thriving on living room devices, with a premium audience consuming high-end series, global content, and a wide bouquet of offerings including TVOD (movie rentals) and add-on subscriptions like Apple TV. Meanwhile, Amazon MX Player reaches over 250 million users, largely through smartphones. Its mission: democratise premium entertainment through AVOD—without a paywall.

Nikhil Madhok outlined how Prime Video Originals are laser-focused on delivering cinematic storytelling—visually rich, thematically deep, and produced at a scale far beyond traditional television. “From The Family Man to Made in Heaven and Call Me Bae, we aren’t just creating content—we’re building cultural brands. Every story must hold its ground next to top global content.”

He also teased the evolution of Prime Video’s movie play. Beyond licensing and direct-to-service releases, Amazon has entered the theatrical game via Amazon MGM Studios. The first release under this banner, Nishaanchi, directed by Anurag Kashyap, hits theatres this September. “Starting 2026, expect four to six Amazon-produced theatrical releases each year,” said Madhok.

Themes are front and centre in content strategy. “Genres are surface. We’re diving deeper—into identity, trauma, aspiration, connection with roots,” Madhok said. Case in point: Khauf, a horror series that’s actually about urban isolation and female trauma, or Dupahiya and Panchayat, which reconnect urban audiences with rural simplicity.

Amogh Dusad’s vision for Amazon MX Player is sharply focused on volume, relevance, and relatability. “Our audience wants content that mirrors their aspirations—rising up the socio-economic ladder, escaping the mundane, hustling for a better life,” he said. “Franchises like Hustler, which spotlight startup dreams, resonate deeply. So do titles like Aashram, which has pulled in over 200 million streamers.”

Dusad also unveiled MX Fatafat—a bold new format tailored for India’s mobile-first generation. These are micro-dramas told in one to two minute episodes, shot in vertical format, and designed for snack-sized bingeing on the go. Each series will feature 80 to 100 episodes, delivering quick-hit entertainment during commutes, lunch breaks, and late-night scrolls. “This is format innovation meeting behavioural insight,” he said.

A key theme across the panel was Amazon’s focus on building the next generation of Indian creators—across both platforms. Gandhi highlighted how over 50 per cent of Prime Video’s upcoming Originals feature first-time talent, either in front of or behind the camera. “That intentionality is what brought stories like Dupahiya to life,” he noted. “We’ve built structures to mentor and empower creators from scratch.”

MX Fatafat, meanwhile, is expected to become a sandbox for emerging digital storytellers. “We’re not just licensing stories—we’re co-creating them with creators who’ve never had this kind of platform before,” Gandhi added.

While competition intensifies in India’s digital entertainment landscape, Gandhi remained bullish. “We’re investing aggressively across Prime Video and MX Player. The Indian streaming story is far from mature—it’s just entering its next big phase,” he said. Amazon’s twin-engine strategy is clear: drive premium with Prime, drive reach with MX, and fuel both with bold bets on formats, themes, and fresh creative voices.

From high-gloss dramas to vertical micro-series, Amazon is placing its chips across the board—because in India’s streaming game, one size definitely doesn’t fit all.
