    Skill of officers depends on effective communication of information: Mukherjee

    NEW DELHI: President Pranab Mukherjee today advised Indian Information Service officers that “the skill of the officers would depend on how effectively they are able to communicate information.”

    He said the IIS provides an opportunity to its officers to communicate proper information in the correct perspective with various stakeholders.

    “Knowledge is power and the basis of knowledge is information”, he added.

    Mukherjee was speaking to a group of probationers of IIS (2015 Batch), Indian Trade Service (2015 Batch) and Indian P&T Accounts and Finance Service (2015 Batch) who called on him at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

    Speaking on the occasion, the President congratulated the probationers on their success in the civil services exam which is regarded as one of the toughest competitive exams in the world. He said that the civil service has a long history and different services were created at different points of time to meet various exigencies.

    He told probationers that their decision to join the civil services will provide them ample opportunity to serve the country and bear responsibilities even at a young age. He wished the probationers all success in their future assignments.

He was also the Chief Marketing Officer for NIIT’s retail individual training businesses and helped in the founding years of the NIIT University.

    As Director-Times Internet Ltd where he was the brand custodian for the group’s website, www.indiatimes.com, he was responsible for incubation, marketing and usability of its portals.Before this, he was the Brand Head of The Economic Times (Delhi) and Navbharat Times at Bennett Coleman. Originally, a copywriter at Contract Advertising’s Kolkata office, Mohit Hira grew to take charge first as Creative Director and then the head of its Kolkata and Delhi offices.

    An English (Hons.) graduate of Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Mohit is also an alumnus of Executive Development Programmes at ISB Hyderabad, IIM Ahmedabad and INSEAD Singapore where he was nominated to the Google Academy.

    He will continue to be based in Delhi NCR and will work closely with the India and EMEA Managing Directors of IB Times.

    No fixation of Govt percentage for advertisements in states: Rijiju

    New Delhi: The Government has denied that any orders have been issued for fixing the percentage of expenditure for ‘A’ ‘B’ and ‘C’ linguistic regions on advertising in Hindi and English.

    Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said a certain percentage of total expenditure on Government advertisements to be given in Hindi and English may be decided by Central Ministries/Departments according to their requirements.

    This was in accordance with the President’s Orders on the recommendations of the Eighth part of the report of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language, he added in a reply in Parliament.

    Region “A” means the States of Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand,  Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and the Union Territories of Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar Islands; “Region A” means the States of

    “Region B” means the States of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

    Shashank Manohar quits BCCI

    MUMBAI: Board of Control for Cricket in India president Shashank Manohar has stepped down from his responsibility, reports read. Manohar had taken over the president ship in October 2015 after the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya.

    It is claimed that the decision has been taken by Manhoar with response to the Lodha Committee recommendations as he is also bidding to win the ICC chairman’s election. According to the norms, no official can hold two posts at the same time in two governing bodies.

    A report also suggests that officials from the BCCI are unhappy about the fact that Manohar had decided to quit as the Indian cricket board president.

    Sun Direct CEO R. Mahesh Kumar appointed as Sun TV Network President

    MUMBAI: The Kalanithi Maran-promoted Sun TV Network has appointed R. Mahesh Kumar, who has been Sun Direct CEO since 2011, as its president. The company made this announcement in a communication to the Bombay stock exchange a short while ago. 

     

    The appointment is being done to strengthen the management of the company, which runs India’s most watched channel, Sun TV and becomes effective from 1 November, 2015.

     

    Unconfirmed reports were that Sun Direct senior vice president – corporate affairs Swaminathan is slated to be elevated to head the DTH operation. 

     

    The 46 year old, R. Mahesh Kumar, is a Chartered Accountant with over 23 years experience out of which more than 15 years has been with the media industry. He started his career with Citibank and had also served KPMG and American Express in earlier years.

     

    His last position was was with the Rajan Raheja Group where he was the president and CEO of Asianet Satellite Communications Ltd before joining the Sun Group. He also held the position of managing director of Sun Direct.

    Mukesh Bhatt re-elected as Guild president

    NEW DELHI: Eminent filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt has been unanimously re-elected as president of the Film and Television Producers Guild of India., while Dheeraj Kumar, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Manish Goswami and Vijay Singh have been named vice presidents.

     

    At the first meeting of its newly constituted Guild Council of Management, which was held immediately after the 61st Annual General Meeting in Mumbai, the other office bearers re-elected as part of the Guild Management Team are Ashim Samanta and Srishti Arya as treasurers.

     

    Kulmeet Makkar will continue to manage the affairs of the Guild as its CEO.

     

    In his opening speech, Bhatt said, “Throughout the past three years, our management team has embarked on the path of my illustrious predecessors and worked with dedication, determination and intensity on embellishing and brightening the image and reputation of the Guild.”

     

    He said Makkar had reinvigorated and revitalised the approach and modus operandi of the Guild. “We continue to engage with State and Central Governments over several issues concerning the film and television industry. There have been many fresh initiatives undertaken by Guild such as waiver of all the charges pertaining to Publicity clearance and Titles registration to make the system more transparent and provide enhanced value to the members, release of first edition of the Film incentive Guide which provides processes and incentives in detail to benefit Indian producers for shooting in 12 countries apart from other reports such as Make in Maharashtra, Film tourism, GST way forward,” Bhatt added.

     

    The other members of the newly elected Council of Management of Guild are Ramesh Sippy, Manmohan Shetty, Ashutosh Gowariker, Rakesh Roshan, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, Ekta Kapoor, Vishal Bhardwaj, Sushilkumar Agrawal, Ratan Jain, N P Singh, Madhu Mantena, Hiren Gada, Sabbas Joseph, Kiran Shantaram, Randhir Kapoor, Amit Khanna, Kamalkumar Barjatya (member emeritus) and Rajkumar Kohli (co-opted member).

     

    In addition to these, Subhash Ghai, Ritesh Sidhwani and Guneet Monga along with eight more Guild members and representatives namely Prem Sagar, Asitkumarr Modi, Sneha Rajani, Ajit Andhare, Sameer Nair, Apoorva Mehta, Aashish Singh and Vipul D. Shah were nominated as special invitees.
