Prasoon Joshi pens new anthem song for Swachh Bharat mission

NEW DELHI: An anthem has been written for the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ by ad man and lyricist Prasoon Joshi.

The song was written in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a ‘jan andolan’ to make the mission successful.

The celebrities have come together to enthuse and inspire citizens to join hands in realising the collective dream of a ‘clean India.’

The anthem penned by Joshi is set to tune by musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. It is sung by Shankar Mahadevan and other playback singers, who will also feature a video being produced by Mukesh Bhatt for the same.

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has contributed to this endeavour by reciting a few lines that will specially feature in the anthem, as well as providing various musical suggestions for the recording.

The audio of the song is expected to be released on the eve of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on 2 October.

  • Prasoon Joshi creates new Saavn ad campaign

Prasoon Joshi creates new Saavn ad campaign

NEW DELHI: Saavn has announced a new campaign with renowned ad film visionary and lyricist Prasoon Joshi.

The music app has collaborated with Joshi and his team at McCann to help drive the music company’s evolution as one of the most innovative advertising voices across India’s top technology brands. The first campaign created under the association is on air now and features a comical series of five spots that promote Saavn’s innovative social features: Tag, Chat, Follow, and Share.

Saavn’s previous campaigns, featuring Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor were launched in India and select international networks, and generated more than seven million combined YouTube views, while attracting millions of new users to the Saavn app.

Until now, Saavn’s ad creative has been completed entirely in-house. Saavn’s creative director Teddy Stern and vice president and editor-in-chief Sneha Mehta independently conceptualized, directed, and co-wrote each spot.

The new campaign, titled They Listen to Me was also directed and written by Stern and Mehta, but this time the duo’s sensibilities and creative execution is combined with the McCann team’s globally-renowned expertise. The result is a unique and fresh concept that builds on Saavn’s history of pushing groundbreaking creative.

“The last year has been pivotal for Saavn as both a brand and advertiser, starting with the Ranbir Kapoor TVC in August. The next step in our brand evolution is collaborating with the immensely-talented Prasoon Joshi and his team at McCann,” Stern said. “Music connects people, and Saavn amplifies that connection. Our app empowers our listeners to share in the joy of music with each other. That’s the Saavn ethos, and McCann is the perfect team to help us broadcast that message to millions of music lovers, in Saavn’s own quirky and innovative way.

The new They Listen to Me campaign is a series of five short TVCs, plus creative for radio, theatrical, and digital platforms. The spots demonstrate how people of all walks of life are empowered by Saavn, through the app’s new social features. The spots feature multiple genres of music, with tracks ranging from “Jumme Ki Raat” from Kick, starring Salman Khan, to “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars.

“From concept phase to production, and now to launch, the Saavn team has been a joy to work with on this campaign,” McCann APACCEO and chairman Joshi said. “When Saavn’s creative team came to us with the idea of empowering users through Saavn Social, McCann’s creative and strategic team knew we wanted to deliver something that not only reflects Saavn’s unique and progressive brand mentality, but also tells the stories of their users – everyday people who have the power to influence their peers on a daily basis through music.”

The five spots range from 20 to 30 seconds in duration and were shot in just three days. Each spot will air in three languages (Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu), for a total of 15 television commercials. The five spots, which will roll out throughout the summer across key networks in India, are titled: “The Wrestlers,” “The Office,” “The Professor,” “The Newsroom,” and “The Dentist.”

Tourism Ministry launches new ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ TVCs starring Aamir Khan

NEW DELHI: A new series of television commercials (TVCs) on the theme of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ with actor Aamir Khan were launched here by the Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma.

A brochure titled “India – the Land of Yoga” was also launched at the function organized in New Delhi.

The four films made on the theme of “Atithi Devo Bhava” spread awareness about ways to extend hospitality to tourists visiting India by adopting an honest and helpful attitude, as well as maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.

Khan is the brand ambassador for these films, which have been directed by adman Prasoon Joshi.

Joshi said, “‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ is the core of our culture and we must promote is as our USP for the purpose of tourism.”

The four films launched today will be telecast on various television channels to spread the message across the country. The films also aim to educating people about the importance of tourism and touristic values.

While launching the brochure “India- the Land of Yoga”, Dr Sharma said that the celebration of International Yoga Day is a matter of pride for India and many countries of the world are supporting us in this endeavour. The brochure on Yoga includes details of Yoga destinations, which will help to promote Yoga as a tourism product.

Dr Sharma thanked Khan and Joshi for making these films and helping in boosting the image of tourism in India. He said that security, hospitality and cleanliness are the main strengths of tourism in India and the Ministry is working on a mission mode to achieve these objectives.

The Minister also said that the Indian Government has launched a Helpline 1363 or 1800-111-363 to help the foreign tourists and guide them on their arrival in India. The helpline will be available in 12 foreign languages within a month to facilitate the foreign tourists. Currently, the Helpline is available in Hindi and English.

The Minister also announced the setting up of a National Medical and Wellness Tourism Board to boost medical tourism in India. “The Board will help to bring together and showcase on an international platform the various streams of medicine available in India including Ayurveda, Yoga, naturopathy, Unani and low cost allopathic treatments,” Dr Sharma added.

In another important step to promote tourism, Dr Sharma announced four new theme based circuits under the Swadesh Darshan scheme that will be developed in the next year. These four circuits are Wildlife Circuit, Spiritual Circuit, Desert Circuit and Ramayana Circuit. These four circuits will be in addition to the five circuits already being developed by the Ministry of Tourism.

  • Goafest 2015: Arnab Goswami, Prasoon Joshi, JWT steal the show

Goafest 2015: Arnab Goswami, Prasoon Joshi, JWT steal the show

GOA: It was raining beers, the sun scorched the land and the beach was calm. The scene was from one big ‘creative’ gathering in Goa. This creative lot has the power of changing the fate of a brand with a 30 second ad or one well crafted hoarding. Yes, we’re talking about the mighty Indian advertising frat, which had assembled for Goafest 2015 this past weekend.

The fest started on 9 April, 2015 and before lighting of the lamp, beer bottles were opened! Regardless of the high spirits, all keynotes saw huge attendance as more than 70 per cent of the ballroom was always occupied over the weekend, which is immense success for the organizers.

The seminars were followed by rain dances and a sailing competition in the afternoon, whereas the evening had everyone on tenterhooks as the Abby Awards were distributed. One after another, a creative piece found recognition as metals were distributed. The award ceremony was followed by an after-hours party.

    Highlights of the event:

    · Eminent speakers came and shared their thoughts and vision on the platform about various issues.

    · Arnab Goswami’s session, on the second day, saw a packed auditorium for the first time, while his speech on stage was as always flamboyant; the counter reaction from a less known individual was a surprise. Whenever Goswami ended a sentence with a question mark, the man unceremoniously shouted from the audience. The banter went to that extent that organizers stopped the session and asked the man to leave the room. However, as soon as the issue was resolved, Goswami continued with his keynote.

    · There were more number of females receiving awards as compared to the males. The women representation in Goafest indicated that Indian women were empowered with every skill, no matter the field.

    · Prasoon Joshi was felicitated by the organizing committee and that was one of the greatest moments of the entire festival. He shared bits and bytes of his advertising journey and concluded by singing the song he wrote on Nirbhaya.

    · The youngest CEO Suhash Gopinath shared his story how he became a CEO at such an early age and ignited the entrepreneurship fever in every youth present in the hall.

    · Rejuvenating live performances from Indiva, Rodney and others got everyone dancing, while East India Comedy forced everyone to laugh.

    · JWT with 35 metals lead the metals tally where as Linen Lintas won the solo Grand Prix.

    Low notes of the event:

    · While there were speakers of huge stature, the moderating quality was average as the moderator failed to get much out of the speakers.

    · The gold and silver winners were invited on stage to receive metals but the ad or the creative piece they were credited for was abruptly displayed. On a gathering where the entire advertising fraternity was cherishing each other’s work, the entire creative piece should have been displayed uninterruptedly.

    · The hosting was sub-standard. There were too many oops moments, where a lady was introduced as Mister and vice versa. During the award ceremony too, flaws were very much visible. For a fest of this magnitude, the standard cannot be compromised with.

  • Abby Awards: Linen Lintas wins grand prix for Dabur Vatika campaign

Abby Awards: Linen Lintas wins grand prix for Dabur Vatika campaign

GOA: Lintas Group’s Linen Lintas won the grand prix at the Abby awards that were held at the 10th edition of Goafest. The agency won the metal in the Direct Campaign using any two form, for Dabur Vatika premium shampoo.

The tagline of the campaign was Brave and Beautiful. The award was handed over to Linen Lintas by ad man Prasoon Joshi.

TBWA Sri Lanka was the only international winner on the second day of the Abby awards.

The radio category saw Contract Advertising and Scarecrow Communications as dominants with 11 and 12 metals respectively. Jury head and Contract Advertising NCD Ashish Chakraborty said, “We had more entries this time, which is an encouraging sign but I must say that as a jury, we were underwhelmed as the surprise quotient was completely missing. The quality of writing was good, production quality was also there but we need to push ourselves more. Internationally there is much better quality of work and we also need to get inspired and improve ourselves.”

The broadcast category jury was led by IBN 18 Network CEO Avinash Kaul. A total of 14 Golds, seven Silvers and five Bronze metals were given away in the category. With four Golds, Colors and Viacom 18 were the most prominent in the category. The quality of work in the category was very good as more Gold metals were bestowed than Bronze and Silver. Big Boss, Code Red and Udann Bindas Play were amongst the winners across various categories.

Print Craft and PR were amongst the other categories for which awards were given to various winners.

  • “The journalism I follow is journalism of opinion:” Arnab Goswami

“The journalism I follow is journalism of opinion:” Arnab Goswami

GOA: The second day of the 10th edition of Goafest started with a zealous key note from Times Now editorial director and editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami.

Seconding the image that he’s built with his different mode of journalism, Goswami said, “The formula of stating an opinion as a journalist is wrong is not true and my presence here today proves that. The journalism I follow is journalism of opinion and is not PR driven. If my opinion helps bringing about a change, I will opine and not shy behind the wall of neutrality. When you know there is something wrong, you don’t need to be neutral. When the facts prove something, you don’t need to be neutral.”

A tad different in his approach to journalism when compared to his peers, Goswami has oft been accused of promoting sensationalism, being over the top loud and what not. In his keynote, the senior journalist addressed some of the accusations that have been levied on him time and again. They are as follows:

Sensationalism: “I know I am accused of sensationalism. Let us go back to the initial stages of Times Now… a small kid was lying at the bottom of a 60 feet deep bore well. We covered it with supreme priority for three continuous days till the kid was rescued alive. We did it because a poor kid was always neglected. Had it been a politician’s or a celebrity’s child, the treatment would have been different. It is because of the OB Vans that the small kid’s life became a national issue and everyone was praying for the kid. We were accused of sensationalism after the coverage, but our coverage then ensured that no such bore well is left unfilled now, which saves small kids from facing the trauma that Prince went through and hence I am proud of sensationalizing, and if it does good to the people of India we will keep doing it.”

Getting Too Involved in the Story: “I know I am accused of getting too involved in a story, which eventually ends up with me taking sides and compromising neutrality. In 2011, we got to know about a small accounting error from a group of Indians on British soil. We analysed the facts and the story was on air. Early next morning, young journalists came running to me and said: ‘Sir, Kalmadi is responding to our story.’ A small report shaking a person of Kalmadi’s magnitude was not normal. I got thousands of calls and one of them was from a person I love – the late Vinod Mehta. He told me: ‘What did you do? Why is everyone so anti-Arnab because of one report? There is something beyond what you have reported… dig deep and find out.’ The entire team got involved. We didn’t sleep, we didn’t think anything else and after a week of investigation, what we came out with was a historical moment for the Indian media — the unveiling of Commonwealth Game Scams, which started the journey of unveiling scams in the public forum. So if getting too involved brings in such revolutions, I promise in future too, no matter how much ever we are criticized, we will keep getting too involved.”

Not Giving Chance To Others To Speak: “Well once I decided that I will let the other person speak and that day became a historical day for the Indian media. And the person was Rahul Gandhi. After that day, there is nothing more left for him to speak anymore. He came with a script in his head and my motive was to make him speak out of that script and the moment I succeeded in doing it, he revealed many hidden secrets. With that the people of India came to know about his feeble nature, which set the tone for the Narendra Modi led government. Well, now we don’t even know where he is, so it’s not that I don’t let others speak, it’s just that I stop them from speaking what they have pre-scripted and is not relevant and accurate.”

The keynote was followed by a Q&A round where advertising fraternity representative Prasoon Joshi asked Goswami numerous questions. Answering on the ’Shame in Sydney’ episode that was run after India’s defeat against Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup semi-finals, which saw substantial criticism on social media platforms, Goswami said, “I have no regrets on running that episode. Criticising a defeat is not a crime and we also appreciate them when they win. It is not something new. Over the years, we saw every defeat in a big match was aggressively criticised. Cricket fans had a problem with the word shame, which is a different argument. We are open to criticism but that doesn’t mean I have any regret airing that episode.”

Goswami’s speech about how Times Now is all about bringing about a change amidst a gathering of advertisers and agencies, could have had multiple motives. However, that didn’t stop him from taking a dig at rivals.

While he didn’t exactly criticise others for airing content that he didn’t agree with, at the risk of sounding pompous, he said, “I think I hardly have any rivals.” Goswami’s intention was most likely to tell the advertising fraternity that Times Now was beyond competition when it came to viewership and popularity.
