    Oscars likely to be postponed

MUMBAI: Will Oscars be postponed due to the Covid2019 pandemic? The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, considered the apex body of the Hollywood film industry, may postpone the 93rd edition of Oscars, according to entertainment website Variety.

As of now, the ABC telecast is set for 28 February, 2021. But it can be delayed further in view of the Covid2019 pandemic.

Though there have not been any “definitive plans’ yet on this as of now, a change in date is likely, reports Variety, quoting multiple sources.

Another source, however, revealed to the website that the date as of now remains unchanged.

The usual rules have it that films should be released for seven days in theatres in Los Angeles county to qualify for Oscars. However, in the changed scenario where theatres remain shuttered due to the pandemic, digitally released films will also be qualified for Oscars.

It is too early to know how the 2021 Oscar telecast could change in the wake of the Covid2019 pandemic, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president David Rubin told Variety.

“It’s impossible to know what the landscape will be. We know we want to celebrate film but we do not know exactly what form it will take. I think everyone is sympathetic to the filmmakers’ plight and we’re here to support our members and the film community. It makes sense when we don’t really know what’s to come in terms of the availability of theatrical exhibition. We need to make allowances for this year only and during this time when theatres are not open so great film work can be seen and celebrated,” Rubin said.

NEW DELHI: The e-auctions in the second batch of FM Phase III, which completed its 24th day yesterday, will now resume on 9 December 2016.

The auction was not held on Tuesday, owing to the demise of Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha as some bidders rushed back to Tamil Nadu.

The bidding has so far been somewhat slow, but Muzaffarpur has been the sole silver lining over the past week rising to more than Rs 33.7 million and thus also overtaking Mysuru which is still at Rs 32.1 million.

Hyderabad and Dehradun are still at top with Rs 23,43,48,266 and Rs 15,61,00,590 respectively, and there are still no bids for 44 cities and movement of just one or two cities in the bottom rung.

M/s South Asia FM Ltd has been declared as the winning bidder for five Radio FM channels, just a day after the commencement of the auction for the second batch of Phase III. The company will be allotted FM Channels in Surat, Amritsar, Patna, Chandigarh and Jammu.

The first day of auction on 26 October saw a winning price of Rs 1820 milion against the aggregate price of Rs 1792 million, while the second day onwards the bidding has been low.

Information and Broadcasting Ministry sources told indiantelevision.com’s sister concern radioandmusic.com that the aim was to continue till all the channels slated in the second batch were auctioned, but breaks will have to be taken for weekends and national holidays.

This data has been compiled on the basis of system generated “Final Round Result Report” and “Frequency Identification Report” accessible through auction administrator role.

  • ABP’s Punjabi foray on hold, for now

ABP’s Punjabi foray on hold, for now

MUMBAI: Everyone is feeling the pinch of the bad economic conditions in the country and news channels seem to be hit hard by it.

According to sources, the Punjabi news channel that MCCS was planning to launch has been postponed to sometime in end-2013, due to the difficult phase that the industry is going through Although no date was fixed, sources had told indiantelevision.com, that it would be sometime in September or October.

“News media is going through difficult and painful times and we are waiting for things to settle down,” says a source from the organisation. ABP already has a foothold in Hindi (ABP News), Marathi (ABP Majha) and Bengali (ABP Ananda).

The news network had decided to expand into regional languages or Tier II cities as it felt it had saturated the potential in the metros. It had identified Punjabi as the first of the languages that it would launch. Sources in MCCS say that the company is reaping good profits and the delay is due to the overall financial conditions of the genre and the fact that it was still waiting to be granted an uplink license from the ministry of information and broadcasting.

Recently, Network 18 laid off more than 350 employees and Bloomberg slashed its rolls by 30 as well. Tough times are peeling off the skin from the news sector.

The biopic which was slated for an April release, and had also closed the American Film Festival Sundance, has been postponed. Five Star Films which had made a service deal with the distributors Open Road before the Sundance festival were highly eager to release in April marking the 37th anniversary of Jobs founded Apple.

The biopic has being visually treated by the Oscar winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter and produced by Mark Hulme.

JOBS stars Ashton Kutcher, Dermot Mulroney, Josh Gad, Lukas Haas, J.K. Simmons and Matthew Modine.
