  • KL Rahul ticks all the bold boxes in Police’s new watch collection

KL Rahul ticks all the bold boxes in Police’s new watch collection

MUMBAI: Time to turn heads KL Rahul is putting his signature style on your wrist with the launch of Police’s bold new Spring-Summer 2025 watch collection. Released on the cricketer’s birthday, the collection is a sartorial salute to individuality, fearless self-expression and most importantly audacity.

Known for its edgy, statement-making designs, Police has long stood for those who dare to be different. Its latest drop leans even harder into that ethos with timepieces that blend industrial swagger and sleek sophistication, anchored in the “Audacity Wanted” concept. And who better to front that than Rahul, a style icon who’s never played it safe on or off the field?

From see-through dials to gold-accented minimalism, the collection doesn’t shy away from drama. Take the Skeletor (Rs 25,995), a mechanical marvel with a matte olive dial, exposed mechanics, and an olive silicone strap that screams rebellion. It’s as comfortable as it is commanding.

Or meet Surigao (Rs 24,995), the Swiss Army knife of style. With day, date, and 24-hour sub-dials nestled into a matte black sunray dial, it’s equal parts muscle and precision set in an ion-plated gold case that means business.

If you like your statements loud and unapologetic, Shield (Rs 28,495) might be your match. A black transparent dial with gunmetal indexes sits inside a screw-styled case, complemented by a contrasting brown leather strap that feels both rugged and refined.

Available at Helios, World of Titan, Lifestyle, Shoppers Stop and online, the watches offer something for every wrist that doesn’t want to blend in. Whether you’re owning the boardroom or the dance floor, Police’s latest drop ensures you’re on time and on point.

Amazon India boxes it up for 2025 Mahakumbh Mela attendees

MUMBAI: If you are Amazon, you have to do something different, something amazing, something out of the box, right? Which is what Amazon India has done.

In a heartfelt endeavor to enhance the experience of attendees at the 2025 Mahakumbh Mela, Amazon India is stepping beyond conventional boundaries with its innovative “dibbon se badhkar” (More than just boxes) initiative.

Amazon India director growth &  marketing (CMO) Pragya Sharma  emphasised that true innovation lies not just in creating new products, but in transforming lives by seizing meaningful opportunities.

In collaboration with the Mahakumbh Mela authorities, the ecommerce giant  has repurposed its iconic cardboard boxes into portable beds. These thoughtfully-designed beds  are providing a much-needed oasis of comfort for tired attendees at vital locations including the lost and found center, the  Kumbh hospital, and for the Kumbh police. The beds serve as a sanctuary, offering respite to those navigating long festival days and nights.

“Our initiative goes beyond conventional thinking; we’re transforming the very boxes we use into a solution that brings comfort and convenience,” said Sharma. “This is a testament to our collective commitment to serving communities with care and thoughtfulness.”

This innovative idea aligns seamlessly with Amazon’s mission to enrich daily lives. As hundreds of millions gather in Prayagraj for this monumental event, the “dibbon se badhkar” initiative stands as a small yet significant step towards delivering much-needed care and comfort.

  • Indian citizens trust defence forces and the PM the most: Ipsos survey

Indian citizens trust defence forces and the PM the most: Ipsos survey

MUMBAI : The news is not so good for all of us who are part of the media. Our tribe ranks even below the police in terms of the trust that the general public places in it, if one were to go by the results of the quarterly survey, the Ipsos IndiaBus Trust in Institutions, conducted by global research company’s Ipsos India..

If the fourth estate is held in such low esteem by its primary customer,  the  Indian citizen, do media owners need to go back to the drawing board and do a rethink about their raison d’etre ? That’s question that begs an answer! An honest answer!

The Ipsos survey revealed that the defence forces (army, air force and navy) are the most trusted  with a score of 56 pr cent, followed by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi who scored 45 per cent positive responses. The RBI came third with a 44 per cent score, followed by the supreme court.

Interestingly, all these institutions have improved their scores over the last quarter (in September) and have shown that the citizens have the highest faith in these institutions, as they continue to serve the nation with exemplary dedication and ethical work practices, says a press release issued by Ipsos India. To be fair even us media folks improved our trust score from 24 per cent in September 2024. But we are a far cry from the 36 per cent we notched up in June  2024.

    Trust list

Politicians (20 per cent), political parties (21 per cent), community leaders (22 per cent), and religious leaders (24 per cent), have even more reasons to be worried as they continue to lead in the distrust list.

The survey displayed certain pockets where the most trusted institutions have higher equity among the citizens.

The defence forces have received higher trust scores among the tier1 citizens (71 per cent), the north zone (69 per cent), the west zone (68 per cent), the employed (67 per cent), tier2 (63 per cent), metros (62 per cent) and males (61 per cent) etc.

The PM of the country received highest scores in the north zone (62 per cent), tier1 (57 per cent) and tier 2 (57 per cent) cities, the west zone (52 per  cent), the employed (51 per cent) and males (48 per cent). Whlle the RBI was trusted most by the west zone (61 per cent), tier1 (59 per cent) and tier2 (54 per cent) citizens, the north zone (53 per cent) and the employed (52 per cent). Across these three institutions, they have a common thread of supporters with high trust – though only in the case of the RBI, trust is high in the west zone, Mumbai being the commercial capital of  India.

Parijat chakrabortyIpsos India group service line leader, public affairs, corporate reputation, CSR & ESG Parijat Chakraborty pointed out that the topper  institutions are the backbone of the nation with their word being sacrosanct.  “After all, they have stood the test of time in serving the nation with transparency, equality and justice. All these institutions command respect – whether our defence forces, PM of the country, the RBI, the supreme court of India, the parliament – and their reputation has been built over years of impeccable delivery and service to the nation,” he elaborated.

According to him politicians, political parties, community leaders, and religious leaders, are institutions that need to win the trust of the masses through greater transparency and fulfilment of their promises to the electorate and patrons on one hand and managing their reputation through visibility around their achievements via communication, not leaving anything to speculation. He highlighted one positive outcome from the survey for them. ”We see recovery in scores to the previous levels, after a dip in September,” he said.

(For the doubting Thomases who doubt the survey’s authenticity, at least use it as a guide post. Ipsos IndiaBus is a monthly pan India omnibus – which also runs multiple client surveys-  that uses a structured questionnaire and is conducted by Ipsos India on diverse topics among 2200+ respondents from Sec A, B and C households, covering adults of both genders from all four zones in the country. The survey is conducted in metros, tier one, tier two and tier three towns, providing a more robust and representative view of urban Indians. The respondents were polled face to face and online. We have city-level quota for each demographic segments that ensure the waves are identical and no additional sampling error. The data is weighted by demographics and city-class population to arrive at a national average. )

  • Radhe streams on pirated websites, Zee files complaint at Cyber Cell

Radhe streams on pirated websites, Zee files complaint at Cyber Cell

Mumbai: Hours after its release, the much-awaited movie Radhe got leaked on pirated websites, compelling the producers to take action. After appealing to the public to say no to piracy, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEE) has now filed an official complaint at the Cyber Cell against the pirated version of the film.

According to an official statement from Zee, a pirated version of the film is being circulated across messaging platforms, including WhatsApp and Telegram. The officials are now actively tracking down the phone numbers involved in this act of piracy, taking the required legal actions, it said on Sunday.

ZEE has also appealed to the public at large, seeking their support in bringing an end to piracy, not just for the film Radhe, but for any kind of content. “Films create livelihood, employment and a source of income for millions of people working in the industry. They also contribute to the economy with the taxes paid to the government. People engaged in spreading the illegal version of the film are not just embracing piracy, but are also negatively impacting the growth of the industry and the livelihoods of people working round the clock,” said Zee as it appealed to all people to consume entertainment content only through official platforms.

Actor Salman Khan also took to Twitter on Saturday night to warn people against watching pirated versions of the movie.

The first-ever multi-platform release of its kind, Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai was released on 13 May on Zee5 with ZeePlex, theatres worldwide keeping the Covid protocols in mind, and across all leading DTH operators – Dish, D2H, Tata Sky, and Airtel Digital TV. The movie had garnered 4.2 million views across platforms on Day 1.

  • Arnab Goswami seeks quashing of FIR against him in abetment case

Arnab Goswami seeks quashing of FIR against him in abetment case

NEW DELHI: Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami’s legal nightmares show no signs of abating. He has been at loggerheads with police officials and the government of Maharashtra for a while now. Currently, Goswami is embroiled in two different cases — the TRP manipulation scam, and abetment to suicide case of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik. The industry has witnessed high voltage drama for the last two months with a litany of FIRs, arrests, lawsuits, hearings, and mud-slinging.

In the latest development, Goswami has filed an interim application before Bombay high court (HC), seeking directions to be issued to the chief judicial magistrate at Alibaug to not take cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the Raigad police in the abetment case. He has petitioned for a stay on all further proceedings, including the investigation in relation to the chargesheet filed.

For the record, last week, on 5 December, Raigad police filed a 1,916-page-long chargesheet before the Alibaug court implicating Goswami and two other accused in the same case. The chargesheet includes evidence from 65 witnesses. Media reports said that police has also submitted the forensic reports that have matched the handwriting in the suicide note, claiming it was not written under any pressure.

Goswami’s application seeks quashing of the FIR against him in the case and he has moved the court for an early listing of the plea and the interim applications filed in it.

It must be noted that he has also filed an application — a day before the filing of the chargesheet — with the Bombay HC seeking a stay on the filing of the chargesheet, and on any further probe into the abetment of the suicide case. In his plea, Goswami has also sought the transfer of the case to the central bureau of investigation (CBI) or any other independent investigating agency outside the purview of Maharashtra government.

In the latest application, he has claimed that despite a pending application by him, the Raigad police went ahead and filed a chargesheet without giving any notice to him or giving him a copy of the same.

Goswami’s lawyers argued that the filing of the chargesheet is a “complete subversion of due process given that it comes within hours of a political instruction being declared publicly by the home minister of Maharashtra, Anil Deshmukh.”

They further pointed that the Raigad police acted out of pure malice and malafide intent by filing the chargesheet against him so as to render his earlier application moot.

Goswami has submitted that the observations made by the Supreme Court in the judgment of 27 November “upholding due process and personal liberty, fell on deaf ears of the machinery in state of Maharashtra and it is proof of the desperate predetermined conspiracy in operation against him.”

He concluded his plea by submitting that “the filing of a malicious chargesheet in the present matter pending the hearing of his plea is aiding the instrumentality of the state which is being weaponised for using the force of criminal law against him.”

For the record, Goswami and the other accused were arrested by the Raigad police earlier in November and were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. After the Bombay HC refused bail, the supreme court granted him interim release pending the disposal of the proceedings before the high court and for a period of four weeks from the date of the judgment of the HC.

  • Delhi magistrate quashes police chargesheet; orders re-investigation into Zee News officials

Delhi magistrate quashes police chargesheet; orders re-investigation into Zee News officials

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Bansal yesterday refused to take cognizance of the charge sheet filed by Delhi Police against Zee News Officials relating to the case against the officials of Zee News by Jindal Steel’s Navin Jindal, MP.

The CMM returned the chargesheet and ordered the Delhi Police to investigate the matter once again.  He also ordered that the investigation this time should be carried out by an officer of the Delhi Police no less than the rank of Asst Commissioner of Police.

This followed serious objections and pleas on facts raised by Zee News Counsel Vijay Aggrawal, who decribed the case as false and concocted.

Aggrawal said, “We have no doubt that if the matter is investigated fairly, it is the complainants who will be prosecuted.”
The CMM has ordered Delhi Police to report back on 2 December, 2013.

Police arrests TV5 editors, Editors Guild condemns irresponsible reporting

MUMBAI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Police has arrested two senior editors of the Telugu news channel TV5 for alleging Ambani brothers’ involvement in the death of former chief minister YS Rajshekhar Reddy.

The report, citing a Russian website, was first aired by TV5 and was later broadcast on NTV and Saakshi TV. This led to attacks on Reliance groups’ outlets in Andhra Pradesh.

Reddy was killed in a helicopter crash on 2 September last year.

After the attacks, criminal cases have been filed against the two other channels also. The cases were handed over to the CID, which arrested TV5 senior executive editor Brahmananda Reddy and input editor P Venkatakrishna from their office amid protests by staff.

Meanwhile, the Editors Guild of India has expressed grave concern over “unprofessional” reporting by channels.

In its statement, the guild asked the channels to desist from “irresponsible reporting”. “Such reporting is sensational in nature and goes against the basic ethics, standards and principles of journalism,” it said while condemning such reporting.

The statement further said that “such reporting triggered some violence in certain parts of Andhra Pradesh is highly unfortunate”.

“It may be pertinent to reiterate news organsiations should exercise all possible rigour and cross-checking of fact, source and motivation of the information before disseminating it in public,” it added.

Meanwhile, both Mukesh and Anil Ambani-led companies have issued statements expressing shock at the report.
