SportsBaazi recruits Uthappa, pitches sports trading as data-driven skill

MUMBAI: Online fantasy sports platform SportsBaazi has launched a campaign fronted by Robin Uthappa, promoting sports trading as a skill-based activity. The initiative, timed with IPL 2025, aims to shift fan engagement from passive viewing to active participation via live match moments trading. Uthappa, highlighting the role of data and discipline, features in the campaign films demonstrating strategic decision-making in real-time trading scenarios.

The campaign emphasises trading as a blend of intellect and analysis, not chance. SportsBaazi, chief marketing officer Puneet Dua asserts the platform seeks to legitimise sports trading as a mainstream skill format.

Says he: “This campaign is not just about awareness—it’s about sparking a movement. We’re building a space for serious sports fans—those who bring intellect, preparation, and strategy to their gameplay. Robin Uthappa’s evolution from cricketer to life coach to sports trader perfectly aligns with the mindset we want to cultivate — composed, thoughtful, and data driven. With IPL 2025 energising the nation, we’re excited to amplify this narrative across India’s sports-loving heartland.”

Adds Robin Uthappa:  “What attracted me to this campaign was the philosophy behind it. I’ve always believed that great performance on the field or in life comes down to clarity, preparation, and discipline. Sports trading is a game of insight, pattern recognition, and strategic timing. I see it as a natural evolution for the serious sports fan. If my journey can inspire even a few to explore it with the right mindset, I’ll consider it a win.”

But Uthappa’s role goes far deeper than screen presence. In creative workshops with the SportsBaazi team, he also reimagined the platform’s core slogan. “While we began with ‘Dil. Dimag. Data,’ Robin added a fourth ‘D’: Discipline. That struck a chord. So much so, it became the name of our flagship podcast — Dimag. Data. Discipline — hosted in collaboration with him,” adds Dua.

Uthappa’s involvement underscores the campaign’s focus on strategic play.

  • Ek Tha Chetan to be Bhagat’s next book

Ek Tha Chetan to be Bhagat’s next book

Mumbai: India’s bestseller author Chetan Bhagat spills the tea about why self-Googling is like cyber masturbating, ChatGPT writing the summary of his next plot and why you shouldn’t confuse media attention with love in Sumedha’s sensational podcast Bluntly Streaming this week

“I never became a writer to change the world. I wanted to make enough money to afford to treat his friends with pizzas and Hot Chocolate Fudge at Nirula’s. I took the investment banker role only to make money,” he said. At work, all that he wanted was a 10 percent hike at work but his horrible boss deprived him of it. “I quit and during the break wrote my first book and the rest is history,” said India’s bestselling author in Sumedha’s sensational podcast Bluntly Streaming this week. In the podcast, Sumedha dives deep into the minds and lives of influential figures and captures Chetan in his wackiest best.

While talking about the memorable moment of being featured in Time’s 100 Influential Indians, Chetan recalled how his horrible boss said in his appraisal that he had ‘poor communication skills’. The writer said that he followed the LBDN mantra – Look Busy Do Nothing – when he was under a horrible boss, which resulted in his first book.

Sumedha then veers the conversation towards the news about Chetan’s cyber presence. Has he ever Googled himself? “That’s like cyber masturbation. Yes, one has to be aware of their image all the time,” he said.

What’s the toughest part about being an author, Sumedha asked. He said, “Dealing with rejections as each rejection is like a slap,”. Chetan talks about spending two years writing his debut work, two in publishing it and in the end left with no enthusiasm to actually promote the book.

In a moment of reflection, Chetan shares the importance of authenticity and acceptance, acknowledging that not everyone will like you, and that’s okay. He confesses to his unhealthy relationship with food and the pressures of maintaining a public image in the age of social media.

The conversation takes a poignant turn as Chetan discusses relationships and marriage. He confesses to having a strained relationship with his father which is reflected in the book 2 States. He also went on to say that he is blessed with a supportive partner. Is their’s a Rab Ne Bana De Jodi, Sumedha asked. “Rab jodi bana tha hai par kaam toh hamey karna hai,”

Adding her sparkling wit and wry humor, Sumedha extracts sensational answers from Chetan about deep fakes, 70-hour work weeks, influencer Orry and what made him move from heartbreak to homicide in his book trajectory. Sumedha throws a Googly at him asking him what his pen name would have been if he were to ghostwrite a book. “Majnu perhaps,” he says. Make it Chetana, she helpfully suggests. The author also talks about how he struggles to stay normal and disconnected from his phone to be able to sleep well and be at his creative best for his next book.

As the podcast draws to a close, Chetan Bhagat leaves listeners with a glimpse into his next literary endeavor, teasing titles like “Chetan ki Chethana” or “Ek tha Chetan.”  Sumedha prods him about his relationship with the media – from being an eye candy to an eye sore. Chetan warns: Media attention is not love, you are just content for the media.

In the end, “Bluntly Streaming” offers not just a glimpse into the life of Chetan Bhagat but a mirror reflecting the universal struggles and triumphs we all face. With his trademark blend of honesty and humor, Chetan reminds us that while success may be fleeting, the journey itself is where true fulfillment lies. Bluntly Streaming is currently streaming on all video and audio streaming networks.

    Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast

    Building meaningful friendships

In conversation with legendary poet and teacher Elizabeth Alexander, Michelle Obama reflects on their 30 years of friendship. They discuss their shared journey of motherhood as they grew to adulthood, the twists and turns of careers, growing older, and their retreat at Camp David with other friends. Michelle emphasizes, “Whether I met you three months ago, or three decades ago, if we’ve built a meaningful friendship, I will work hard to foster our relationship and be there for you when you need me. I’ve got your back because I know you got mine. And one of those people I know without a doubt that I can count on is my dear friend, Elizabeth Alexander. It felt like a warm blanket to sit down with her for a long soulful conversation about friendship, fostering them, nurturing them, and the deep humanity that lies within them. Now I’ve known Elizabeth for 30 years, since long before the presidency was even a glimmer in Barack’s eye. She’s a distinguished poet, writer, and academic. But to me, she’s even more than that. She’s an authentic and genuine friend, and she’ll always have a spot at  my kitchen table.”

    Striving for excellence and parenting

Gayle King and Michelle Obama open up about parenting and striving for excellence as a pursuit. Michelle Obama encourages young people to take charge of their lives and make excellence a practice, “Excellence is a thing you practice. You practice who you want to be, every single day. I try to tell my girls this – if you want to be a professional and be on time, you have got to start doing that when you’re seven or nine. You don’t wait until you get to a position to try to show up. So I have been practicing getting things right for a long time. So I don’t know how to be late,” said Obama. When asked about parenting their two girls, she said, “I treated parenting my girls like  my parents parented me. I wanted them to be independent early. I wanted them to be able to wake themselves up, make their own beds, they had to do their own homework. There was no helicoptering because I wanted them to rise and fall on their own merits.”

    The power of small

America’s favourite former First Lady shares that she grew up in circumstances where bars were set quite low for women of colour. She did not let these conditions overpower her, and credit due to her parents for always making her feel seen and heard at home.  She used it as an opportunity to prove to the world what she was capable of. As she goes on to detail her approach to life, Michelle uses her wit in sharing some insights. She compares knitting to taking on tasks in life and suggests instead of overwhelming ourselves with what we cannot control we must focus on the smaller tasks at hand. She goes on to share an anecdote of when she was overwhelmed while preparing a speech, she says, “I am trying to go big, I am trying to think of a big speech and I don’t have that platform in quarantine. But I can focus on what’s in my lap. Let me look at what I uniquely can control. The truth is what’s in our lap. The fact that yes, there are riots going on but there are people who are also coming out and marching. They saw brutality but the country remembered for a time they had come together around Black Lives Matter. There were all these emergency workers sacrificing themselves in this quarantine. People were giving, we were a better nation than we were being taught. But we lose sight of the beauty of what’s small because we are taught that big is better. This is where great becomes the enemy of good. And you don’t have the power to change the world until you do the thing that you can actually control, the thing in your lap. Let us now value the power of small.”

    Decoding fear

In conversation with Ellen Degeneres, Michelle Obama elaborates why we must overcome our fears and step out of our comfort zone to get ahead in life. “There is a fear that keeps us stuck. The fear of others, the fear of somebody who is not like you, the fear of somebody who has got a different skin colour than you. That is an irrational fear. If we don’t learn to decode it and to know when our fear is keeping us safe from when it is keeping us limited and narrow and small. If we don’t start thinking about how we process fear, I know I have had to. I’ve had to learn to determine when my fear is rational and when it’s just me not wanting to do something that makes me uncomfortable.” She goes on to add, “Learning to be comfortably afraid is learning to rationally deal with your fear so that you can get to the other side. When you get to the other side, nine times out of ten there is a lot of growth, opportunity and possibility if you can decode it properly.”

Michelle’s classic wit, candor, and compassion infused in her anecdotal learnings as she engages in an insightful yet fun banter with exceptional luminaries is bound to lighten up your world. Tune into Audible and listen to the Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast.
