    MUMBAI: They didn’t wait for the world to hand them a playground, they built their own field of dreams. As the world gears up to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, audio series platform Pocket FM is shining the spotlight on Rajasthan’s young footballers who are rewriting the rules of courage, one goal at a time.

    The latest chapter of Pocket FM’s acclaimed brand series, Sound of Courage, tells the stirring story of girls from rural Rajasthan who quite literally kicked their way through patriarchy. Created in collaboration with the Mahila Jan Adhikar Samiti (MJAS), the short film captures how a few determined girls turned a barren patch of land into their football ground and in doing so, reclaimed their right to freedom, expression, and dreams.

    For generations, their mothers and grandmothers had known a world limited by early marriage, household chores, and little to no education. Football, for them, wasn’t just a game, it was rebellion dressed in cleats. What began as a handful of girls dribbling against social constraints soon evolved into a local movement that got the entire community cheering.

    “Football gave us permission to dream,” says 17-year-old Maina Choudhary, one of the young players featured in the film. “When we play, nobody tells us who we can or cannot be.”

    The results of this small revolution have been nothing short of extraordinary. There’s been a visible drop in child marriages, more girls continuing their education, and parents who once disapproved now cheering from the sidelines. A few players have even gone on to represent their district at the state level proof that empowerment can start with something as simple as a football.

    “In today’s world, it’s easy to get lost in the noise,” said Pocket Entertainment SVP for brands Vineet Singh. “With Sound of Courage, we want to bring forward unique and unheard stories across the world that lift our spirits and remind us what courage truly looks like. The story of these Rajasthan girls reminds us that real change begins quietly when people are given a voice, a chance, and the space to dream.”

    This Rajasthan chapter follows Sound of Courage’s earlier feature on India’s Women’s Ice Hockey Team, expanding the campaign’s narrative from national-level heroes to grassroots changemakers. Both stories stand as testament to Pocket FM’s belief that courage doesn’t always roar sometimes, it takes the shape of a quiet kick on dusty ground.

    Conceptualised by Pocket Entertainment’s in-house creative team and produced with Colonial Films, the film is as visually stirring as it is emotionally grounded. It paints courage not as a grand declaration but as a daily act of girls who refused to be told what they couldn’t do, and in the process, taught an entire community what they could.

He emphasised that despite reliance on standard validation metrics, brands still face gaps due to opaque models, underscoring the need for robust checks and AI-driven solutions.

The insightful exchanges with veterans like Pawandeep Singh and Utkarsh Garg provided diverse perspectives and a deeper understanding of the evolving digital ecosystem,” he noted.

    The world’s largest audio series platform has flung open the studio doors, letting anyone with a tale to tell see their words transformed into a fully produced audio show within minutes. Already, more than 30,000 AI-powered series are live, a number set to double by the end of the year.

    At the heart of this revolution is Pocket FM’s AI creator suite, a tool that whisks text into audio magic at lightning speed. Built in collaboration with Elevenlabs, the AI voices can slip seamlessly between drama, comedy, fantasy and romance, no more scratchy robots, just finely tuned emotion. For writers, the impact is staggering: What once took weeks now takes hours, with stories delivered 10 times faster.

    “This is not just a content shift but the rise of a new writer economy,” said Pocket Entertainment, co-founder, Prateek Dixit. “When human imagination meets AI innovation, the possibilities multiply. Writers can now share their work instantly, globally, and sustainably.”

    And it’s not just career writers reaping the rewards. Every month, more than 33,000 Indian listeners-turned-authors are publishing their own series on Pocket FM. Some are even cashing in top creators who are projected to cross Rs 10 lakh in earnings this year. Smash hits such as King of Dragon, Darshi: A Rebirth Story and Divya Yoddha Daksh show the appetite for AI-driven storytelling.

    For Nitesh Kumar Dayama, writer of King of Dragon, the experience was life-changing. “I didn’t have the money for editors or publishers,” he said. “Suddenly, I had a production team in my pocket. My words became an audio series in hours, and when I saw millions listening… and that I could earn from it, it felt like a breakthrough.” His series has racked up over 200,000 plays in under a month.

    Pocket FM isn’t stopping there. With plans to roll out its creator suite in multiple Indian languages and 200,000 new AI audio series on the horizon, the platform is doubling down on contests, contracts, and cash prizes worth up to Rs 15 lakh to nurture the next wave of storytellers.

    For India’s aspiring authors, this could be the ultimate happily ever after.

    MUMBAI:  For millions of Indians, screens are out and sound is in. Pocket fm’s entertainment insights ’25 report reveals how audio series have emerged as the country’s most intimate form of entertainment, redefining binge culture.

    Based on responses from 20,538 digital entertainment consumers, the survey reveals that audio dramas are now part of daily life, with 49 per cent listening to over 10 episodes a day, 50 per cent tuning in for more than 90 minutes (including 35 per cent who cross two hours), 60 per cent listening during leisure time, 48 per cent during commutes, and 86 per cent preferring episodic audio dramas over podcasts, audiobooks, or music.

    At the center of this shift is young India (18–24 years), treating audio series as both escape and habit. Genres such as drama (40 per cent), romance (37 per cent), sci-fi/fantasy (37 per cent), and thriller/horror (34 per cent) dominate, with Hindi leading at 53 per cent while regional languages rapidly gain ground.

    Monetisation patterns are equally unique: three in four prefer micro-payments over subscriptions, mirroring India’s wider digital payment culture.

    And the future? Surprisingly open to tech. 80 per cent of listeners say they are comfortable with AI-generated storytelling, so long as the narrative connects emotionally.

    “India has always been a storytelling nation, from epics to bollywood. What we are witnessing now is a generational pivot,” said Pocket entertainment, co-founder and ceo, Rohan Nayak. “People aren’t abandoning video; they’re choosing audio because it offers intimacy, imagination, and freedom. The future of pop culture will be defined as much by what we hear as by what we see.”

    The Pirates, three-time PKL champions, embody grit, passion and resilience qualities Pocket FM says mirror its own storytelling ethos. The tie-up will see the platform bring fans closer to their heroes with meet-and-greets, on-ground activations and digital campaigns featuring star players, adding drama beyond the do-or-die raids.

    “Kabaddi, much like our audio tales, is full of drama and emotion,” said Pocket FM SVP and head of brand marketing communications and partnerships Vineet Singh. “Through this collaboration, we aim to celebrate both the game and the stories while building stronger connections with fans across the country.”

    For Pocket FM, this is not the first foray into the sports arena. The platform has previously partnered with Jaipur Patriots in Ultimate Table Tennis and with The World of Battle BGMI. But with kabaddi’s soaring popularity and PKL’s Season 12 kicking off this August, its alliance with the Pirates could prove to be its biggest sporting raid yet.

    Indian audio streaming market sees new entrant as Velvet brings in Pankaj Tripathi

    MUMBAI; The Indian audio streaming sector continues to expand with Velvet, a new platform specialising in cinematic audio stories, announcing actor Pankaj Tripathi has joined as co-founder. Tripathi recently released a bunch of his stories written and narrated by him on Velvet. 

    The bootstrapped venture, which launched quietly in late 2024, was founded by actor and dialogue coach Vikas Kumar, alongside Akshat Saxena, Varad Bhatnagar and Sharib Khan. It joins a growing market that includes successful platforms such as Pocket FM, Pratilipi FM and Kuku FM.

    “From folk tales to epics, our stories have always had the power to inspire, educate, and entertain,” said Mr Tripathi. “We aim to elevate this tradition into a cinematic experience for the ears, whilst remaining deeply rooted in our cultural ethos.”

    The platform, which focuses on preserving and promoting traditional storytelling, has attracted over 10,000 direct listeners and reaches more than one million users through partnerships with Josh App in India and Future Today Group in the US.

    The announcement follows the recent launch of Eshtory by former radio executive Harrish Bhatia, indicating growing interest in India’s audio streaming market.
