&pictures to premiere ‘Ghost’ on 8 February

MUMBAI: This Saturday night as the clock strikes 8, &pictures will take the viewers through a spine-chilling journey with the horror thriller ‘Ghost’ that explores the world of unknown. Inspired from the real-life murder mystery case, ‘The Devil Made Me Do It’, Director Vikram Bhatt’s Ghost brings forth an intriguing plot revolving around the murder of an innocent woman but with a supernatural twist to it.

The movie features popular television star Sanaya Irani and the dapper Shivam Bhaargava in the lead roles. Witness this supernatural thriller with the World Television Premiere of ‘Ghost’ on 8 February at 8 pm only on &pictures.

Sanaya Irani said, “When Vikram narrated the story, it had me hooked from the word go as it was based on a real-life incident. Portraying the role of Simran, was very different from the other roles I have played in the past especially television soaps – it is a completely different ball game here. This being a horror film, my main obstacle was to convey the actual emotions of what Simran is going through at any given time, to the audience. When you see the World Television Premiere on &pictures, you will realize that while she is dealing with the external forces, she has her own demons to face. I think I have done justice to the role and I hope that when the audience watches the movie they too agree with me.”

Shivam Bhaargava says, “Since childhood, I have been fascinated with the horror and thriller genre. Hence, when Vikram narrated the story, I was sold immediately and agreed to take it up. The movie not only has many attention-grabbing twists and turns but also keeps the viewer hooked on right till the end with its gripping plotline. I play the role of Karan who is the prime suspect in his wife’s murder but claims innocence as there is more to him than what meets the eye. The film on the whole has a strong script and is surely different from the many stories in this genre. I am eagerly looking forward to the World Television Premiere on &pictures this weekend and I hope the audience enjoys watching it on television.”

Set against the backdrop of London, the movie follows the life of a politician Karan Khanna (Shivam Bhaargava) who is accused of murdering his wife Barkha’s (Gayatri Iyer). But he claims not guilty as he believes that a spirit mercilessly killed his wife. He tries to prove his innocence by explaining the ‘the spirit of possession theory’ to his lawyer Simran (Sanaya Irani) who has a hard time believing it but still takes up the case.

However, Simran’s deep-rooted psychological issues come in the way and she ends up getting romantically involved with Karan. While investigating the case the duo witness supernatural encounters that keep escalating with time. Will Simran be able to crack this
case and save Karan? Or will the evil forces over power the good?

&pictures’ premieres ‘Badla’ on 7th December

MUMBAI: One room, a corpse and one suspect! 2019’s most watched suspense thriller ‘Badla’ pulls the loose threads of Naina Sethi’s (Taapsee Pannu) alibi, who is accused of murdering her lover and find herself stuck in maze of situation. Has Naina committed the crime? Or is she being framed by somebody? Director Sujoy Ghosh’s cleverly written plot lets the viewer think that they know what’s going on but shoots their expectations down with twists that makes them think whether Naina is innocent or guilty. Badla marks the reunion of the power packed actors Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan as they will be seen in a victim and lawyer roles once again.

Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, the movie also features Amrita Singh, Manav Kaul and Tanveer Ghani in pivotal roles. Witness this suspense thriller with the &pictures premiere of ‘Badla’ on Saturday, 7th December at 9:30 pm.

Commenting on her character Naina in the movie, Taapsee Pannu said, “One of the biggest contributing factors for me to take the role was the way my character revealed the many layers of being a strong, self-made authoritative woman, who at the same time felt vulnerable. I love playing layered characters as it adds immensely to the plotline. Another highlight was the fact that this was the second time I was sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan-sir. I like to believe that Sujoy Sir saw a certain dynamic in us coming together again in the 'lawyer and client relationship, and that gave the whole story so much more dimension. To sum it up, all I can say is that I have never done a film like this before in my career and I truly hope that the audience watches the film as it premieres on &pictures.”

Commenting on the plotline of the film, Director Sujoy Ghosh added, “Badla’s story is basically like two people making chess move, where someone is telling the story, and somebody is making the counter story. To give the movie an added connect I referred to three books that I love: the Mahabharata, the Gita and the Ramayana. There is so much about life to learn in these books. So, I thought it would be a great way to play it in this story. For example, what is revenge and what does it stand for? When is it right to take revenge? I wanted that in my film, and it comes beautifully from Mahabharata."

Set against the backdrop of Glasgow’s icy air, the narrative follows a couple – Naina and Arjun (Tony Luke) who are having an extra marital affair are waiting in a hotel room for the blackmailer with a big filled with 100,000 pounds. Suddenly, Naina is hit by something due to which she lands up losing her consciousness. On regaining her senses after a few hours, she finds herself locked up in a room with a corpse drenched in blood and the police outside trying to break in. The plot then traces the life of Naina Sethi, a strong and self-made woman, who is under house arrest as she is accused of murdering her lover. A top-rated lawyer, Badal Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan), is hired by Naina’s team, to prove her innocence in what seems like an open-and-shut case. As the interrogation begins, he repeatedly tells Naina “Pay attention to the details. The answer is in the details”. A man with a track record of winning every case in 40 years of his career, Badal is hell bent on winning this case and unravelling the truth. But he has only three hours to uncover the facts and prove Naina’s innocence.

This Diwali #BurnTheBhedBhaav as &pictures urges the nation to stand against discrimination with Article 15 on 19thOctober

MUMBAI: ‘Kahab to lagijaaye dhak se, dhak se’(You will be offended if I tell you the truth), this folk song that sets the base of Anubhav Sinha’s critically acclaimed Article 15 perfectly describes the jarring contrast between the higher caste and the lower caste. The movie's narrative pulls the right strings, as it compels the viewer to think about the stigma associated with caste discrimination and the concomitant biases. One of its kind, this critically and commercially acclaimed movie marks the first inning for actor Ayushmann Khurranaas he steps out of his comfort zone to essay the role of an IPS officer.  Along with him, the film stars Isha Talwar, Sayani Gupta, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub,Kumud Mishra and Manoj Pahwa in pivotal roles. Article 15 relies heavily on reality and takes instances from the Badaun gangrape and murder case of 2014 and the Una floggings of 2016. &pictures – Naye India Ka Blockbuster Movie Channel, is all set to air the World Television Premiere of Article 15 onSaturday, 19th October at 8pm.

Ahead of the World Television Premiere of Article 15, &pictures kickstarted a movement called #BurnTheBhedBhaav, focussing on the Article 15 of the Indian Constitution that prohibits discrimination on the grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. In our day to day lives, all of us come across instances where discrimination takes place in which either we are the ones initiating it or we may be unknowingly a part of it. Like, we have separate utensils for our house helps. A landlord thinks twice about the cultural/religious background of a person before renting them the house. Why give old clothes to a servant’s son rather than buying them new ones. Do we ever let our kids play or study with the caretakers’ kids? Ever wondered why?

    https://www.facebook.com/andpictureschannel/playlist/549245905881392

Attempting to make a difference, this campaign urges Indians to imbibe the spirit of our constitution and stand against discrimination in all aspects. As a part of the campaign, &pictures has curated short films that showcases instances of discriminationand how we can #BurnTheBhedBhaav through inclusiveness. These videos break the myth of discrimination is a rural phenomenon rather it is also quite evident in metro cities. As an extension of the activity, &pictures created awareness through communication in trade offices that highlighted ‘Article 15’ from the Indian constitution. Through this &pictures wants to put forward the point that while reading the constitution is one thing but one should also imbibe the essence of the constitution. With this we aim to urge to people to take a pledge for themselves that will help to bring about a change in today’s society.

Ruchir Tiwari, Business Head, Zee Hindi Movies Cluster said, “The Constitution of India has a special provision to safeguard the interest of its citizens in the form of Article 15. Fabulously capturing the essence of this article, director Anubhav Sinha has provoked the audience to look deeper into caste discrimination with Article 15.&pictures – Naye India Ka Blockbuster Movie Channel has always believed in showcasing progressive content that creates a spark of conversations among the viewers. Similarly, with the World Television premiere of Article 15, we want the citizens to ponder over this fact and take a conscious decision this Diwali to burn the sentiment of ‘BhedBhaav’ that we all carry in our subconscious minds.”

Prathyusha Agarwal, CMO, ZEEL said, “At some point in our lives we all have been victims of discrimination, which may have happened unintentionally or intentionally. To spark sensitivity and change, this Diwali, we at &pictures have devised a campaign #BurnTheBhedBhaav to eliminate the problem of casual discrimination that still exists in our nation. To deliver the hard-hitting truth about this social stigma, we have created persuasive thumb stopper videos that will make one question one’s own conscience. We have also tied up with our trade partners for brand activations that highlight the true essence of ‘Article 15’ and encourage them to participate. With this special initiative, &pictureswants to gift the nation a discrimination-free Diwali.”

Director Anubhav Sinha said,"When I was a kid, I realized that people were judged by their surname. I felt it wasn't fair and hence I have used the movie to elucidate a problem and get people to address it. According to me, Article 15 is one article of the Indian Constitution in particular, which is long forgotten, and I wanted everyone to find out about it and talk about it. That’s why I kept the shot lingering on what Article 15 says in the film, just before the interval. The initiative that &pictures has undertaken to do away with discrimination is extremely crucial and the need of the hour. I hope it causes a ripple effect."

Ayushmann Khurrana who plays a police officer in the movie said, "Article 15 is a very relevant and important story in today's day and age. Discrimination is a part of society, especially caste-based discrimination. It is not a topic that is spoken about openly and this is the first time a film has boldly spoken about the sensitive social issue of discrimination in mainstream Indian cinema. With it now set to premiere on television for the very first time on &pictures, I hope that films important message reaches as many people as possible across our country."

Set against the backdrop of Laalgaon, the plot of Article 15 is based on the socio-political situation of India and follows the lives of police officers. An honest cop, Ayan Ranjan (Ayushmann Khurrana) is transferred to a remote village in Uttar Pradesh. He takes the onus of investigating a case where two young girls were raped and murdered and hung from a tree. As the story progresses, he stumbles upon many facts and is made aware of the many atrocities that the lower caste face in our country. The rest of the film shows how Ranjan solves the case while trying to understand the ingrained caste system in the village.

The film gives voice to Mumbai’s unexplored rap culture, revealing in a beautiful narrative, real struggles of these artists. Through the infectious music and lyrics, the film brings to the fore, real life thoughts, emotions and the never die attitude of the youth of India. As a part of the movie promotion, &pictures has deviced a digital engagement activity called #ApniGullyKaGullyBoy, where fans will be sharing a rap/dance/dialogue video to a Gully boy track.

On the groundwork that went into making Gully Boy, director Zoya Akhtar says, “When Gully Boy was in its initial stage, none of us were sure of how the film would be received. Most people were not even aware of the rap scene in the country so we just hoped what had moved us would transmit to a bigger crowd. I have to thank Naezy and Divine for letting us into their lives and sharing their stories and process. We did our best to represent these talents and their distinctive voice. We are all extremely overwhelmed with the feedback Gully Boy has received. The news of it being the official entry for the Oscars has been very exciting.”

Siddhant Chaturvedi on playing the part of MC Sher, and on working with Ranveer Singh said, “I really believed in my character and I was completely aware of the kind of space I was in. To be a part of such a big project was absolutely earth-shattering for me. I felt blessed, lucky, and happy. I did not expect myself to come out of the cocoon in such a manner. When my dad saw the film, he was in tears. My family has already seen it multiple times and will watch it again when it premieres on &pictures. To have been given so much love and respect for the character I played, credits must, of course, go to Zoya Akhtar, but moreover, Ranveer Singh. He motivated me throughout. It was rather ironical that I play a mentor to his character Murad on-screen when in reality he was my MC Sher. He mentored and advised me throughout, even off-screen and to top it all off, my debut on the big screen got nominated as India's official entry to the Oscars, when I heard it, I was over the moon and no words can express the gratitude I feel for having been a part of such an amazing journey”

But, after coming across a local rapper MC Sher (Siddhant Chaturvedi), Murad develops an inclination towards rapping which becomes an outlet for him to express his feelings. He turns his happiness, grief, discomfort and disappointment into hard-hitting lyrics which makes him an overnight internet sensation. But due to family pressures, he is torn between his passion for rapping and his responsibility towards his family. Will Murad manage to rise above all the odds?

MUMBAI: 24 bombs, one heart stopping mission, will the city survive? Get ready for an action-packed roller coaster ride this Saturday Night with the World Television Premiere of Blank on 21st September at 8 pm only on &pictures – Naye India ka Blockbuster Movie Channel. This edge of the seat entertainer narrates the tale of an Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) officer, who finds himself in a life and death situation with a baffling case. Directed by debutant Behzad Khambata, the movie features Bollywood’s macho man Sunny Deol along with the newcomer Karan Kapadia, Karanvir Sharma and Ishita Dutta in pivotal roles. A compelling action thriller, the movie promises to keep the audience intrigued, right from the word go!

Commenting about her role, Ishita Dutta said, “Blank is my first attempt at the action genre and was also the reason I took up this role. Having grown up watching Sunny sir’s movies, never did I imagine that I would be working with him one day. The amount of energy and hard work that he puts in his work is phenomenal. Playing the character of a cop was quite challenging because of the action sequences one has to perform but Sunny sir and director Behzad kept encouraging and guiding me throughout, which made it a little easier.  This movie marks the debut of Karan Kapadia and I must say he is a complete surprise package. The way he delivers his scenes, one would not think that it’s his first movie. Working with such a talented team was an enriching experience. All in all, I can just say that it’s a film that I am really proud of doing and hope the audience will enjoy the World Television Premiere of Blank on &pictures on 21s September at 8 pm.”

Debutant Karan Kapadia said, “Blank is an unusual story where I play a suicide bomber who suffers from memory loss. While it took me a long time to get the role, it was an experience I totally enjoyed. After working with Sunny Sir I can proudly say that life has come full circle as I met him when I was a kid. It was surreal to share screen space with him and I only hope to be good and consistent in my upcoming projects. As for the song with Akshay, it wasn’t decided till two weeks before we shot it. He agreed to do it only after he saw rushes of the film; it was his way of wishing ‘good luck’ to me. Everyone around has been so encouraging and I hope that the audience will be able to catch the World Television Premiere on &pictures.”

Based on a terror plot, the film showcases the story of Haneef (Karan Kapadia) who is held captive by the police at the hospital as they find a ticking bomb attached to his chest. After a lot of tests, the doctors discover that if Haneef’s heart stops beating, the bomb will explode activating the other 23 bombs at different places. Scared by the thought of this, the police calls ATS chief SS Dewan (Sunny Deol) to investigate this case further. On interrogating Haneef, who is suffering from partial memory loss, Dewan starts to suspect that he is a suicide bomber and a part of a conspiring terror group. But what is the actual truth is for viewers to unravel with the premiere of Blank.

With thrilling action sequences, Sidhu’s chase to stop the 24 bombs from detonating and Haneef’s memory loss, forms the crux of Blank’s storyline. While the movie is Karan Kapadia’s debut film, it also features a special cameo by Karan’s brother in law Akshay Kumar, who will be sharing the screen space in a special song called 'Ali Ali' .

&pictures’ ‘Saturday Premiere Nights’, brings the 21st century rendition of the classic love story Laila Majnu on 14th September at 8PM

MUMBAI: Set against the picturesque backdrop of Kashmir, Laila Majnu is a new age representation of the ancient Middle Eastern folklore of Majnu and Laila. Belonging to two feuding families, Laila and Majnu incidentally cross paths one night, and a deep passionate love story unravels between them. Known for mesmerizing the audience with romance dramas, renowned filmmaker, Imtiaz Ali has written this eternal love saga leaving the viewers enchanted. Directed by Imtiaz Ali’s brother, Sajid Ali, Laila Majnu features debutantes Avinash Tiwary and Tripti Dimri in the lead. The film makes its World Television Premiere this Saturday, 14th September on &pictures – Naye India ka Blockbuster Movie Channel, under the property ‘Saturday Premiere Nights’.

Debutant Avinash Tiwary said, “Laila Majnu has been an iconic love story since time immemorial, and it makes me immensely proud to be the face of our generation’s Majnu. The story is not only relevant in today’s time but also relatable and hence portraying this character was special. When I decided to play the part, all I had in mind was making Majnu a character that stayed true to the story and wanted to be liberated from the clutches of society. I hope the audience watches the World Television Premiere on &pictures and loves my rendition of Majnu.”

Talking about her debut film, Tripti Dimri who essays the role of Laila said, “Laila Majnu holds a special place in my heart, not because it’s my debut film but because it taught me that love is something that cannot be defined or explained, one has to just embrace it. Bringing alive this eternal love saga was overwhelming for me since I have grown up hearing about Laila Majnu and have been awestruck with it. While our rendition of the movie is slightly different from the actual one with a modern day twist to it. Playing the role of Laila was challenging but an enriching experience as well for me. In the movie, Laila is a carefree and flamboyant girl who enjoys the attention she gets whereas in real life I am a complete opposite. It took me some time to open up but with the help of Imitiaz and Sajid sir I was able to get into the skin of my character. While I enjoyed recreating this epic love story, I hope the viewers also enjoy the World Television Premiere of Laila Majnu on &pictures"

While there are many adaptations of Laila Majnu’s classic love story, the team of brothers Sajid and Imitiaz Ali give it a modern and contemporary spin. Laila (Tripti Dimri) lives in her own sweet world, dreaming of ‘the special one' who will love her till death. On a quest to find the right one, she meets the handsome hunk, Qais (Avinash Tiwary). The story proceeds to a romantic intimacy developing between the two, against the age-old contention between their families. Their crazy romance soon becomes the talk of the town, which eventually causes problems between Qais and Laila’s family leading to them getting separated.

Will Qais fight for his one true love, or will the star-crossed lovers be separated forever?
