MUMBAI: Turner has entered into a partnership with Pops Worldwide to launch its Boomerang brand on the popular POPS Kids non-linear platform in Vietnam.

Turner in Southeast Asia MD Phil Nelson  said,  “This partnership is another landmark in the ongoing expansion of the Boomerang brand within this region. The service will offer world-class content, on-demand, to millions of consumers in Vietnam on the POPS Kids, platform that is familiar and easy to use.”

“We are excited to partner with Turner to bring Boomerang – with its portfolio of well-loved characters – to POPS Kids, Vietnam’s premier kids’ education and entertainment destination with almost 400 million views,” commented Pops Worldwide, founder and CEO Esther Nguyen.

“This is another step in our goal to build the leading premium digital entertainment network in Southeast Asia. We will be working on all aspects of Boomerang’s digital video content: from programming, localization, marketing, distribution to monetization. With this partnership, everyone in Vietnam can have greater access to family-friendly content on POPS Kids.”

Boomerang, which Turner rebranded globally in late 2014, is an all-animation, kids-targeted network, with a line-up of world-famous cartoon characters from shows such as: The Powerpuff Girls, Ben 10, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and Dexter’s Laboratory. It is known for its line-up that is ideally suited to a safe, family co-viewing experience. On POPS Kids, the programming will be exclusively in Vietnamese and will be available from April 1, 2016, with a special preview scheduled for March 31.

The agreement follows substantial recent distribution growth for Boomerang in Asia, notably in Thailand where the local offering is available in 15 million homes and has been the number one kids’ TV channel by a considerable margin since its launch in 2013.

The move comes on the back of several new brand launches, including the addition of Oh!K and World Heritage Channel to Turner’s portfolio, and the re-launches of Warner TV and Boomerang.

Additionally, Voo Chih Yeong has been appointed as the vice president – Southeast Asia. He will assume responsibility for all affiliate partnerships in key markets such as Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Yeong joins Turner from Sony Pictures Television Networks Asia effective 3 June.

In addition, Vishal Dembla has been promoted to vice president – Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, with a remit that includes Hong Kong, Thailand and Indochina. Dembla recently spearheaded a number of initiatives including the launch of Toonami, Boomerang and Pogo in Thailand, and was part of the team that developed Oh!K, the region’s newest Korean entertainment channel.

“Turner’s rapid expansion across Southeast Asia and the significance of the Australia market has triggered this important change. We work with demanding, world-class partners and they deserve the best team to support their business. Turner’s Pogo makes headway into Thailand with Channel 3

MUMBAI: Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific has partnered with Thai free-to-air broadcaster Channel 3 to host a daily two-hour programming block of Pogo-branded content from 30 March.

The block offers a mix of animated and live-action original content from Pogo that was launched in India by Turner in 2004.

The block will air in Thai on the Family Channel 3 from 4-6 pm on weekdays and 7-9 am on weekends. Its programming includes first-run and exclusive content with live-action shows such as M.A.D. (Music, Art and Dance) and F.A.Q. (a science show for inquisitive youngsters), and Chhota Bheem, one of India’s biggest ever animated homegrown franchises.

Turner International Asia Pacific SVP and managing director, North Asia and Southeast Asia Pacific Phil Nelson said, “For more than a decade, kids in India have loved Pogo and we are confident that its content will also work well in Thailand. It’s yet another example of how Turner is creating engaging local viewing solutions and we’re looking forward to working closely with Channel 3.”

Channel 3 EVP Surin Krittiyaphongphun added, “We are excited to bring the Pogo brand to Thailand for the first time and local audiences are going to love it. The deal is a result of a great partnership – Channel 3 is one of the country’s most watched channels and Turner is a world leader in curating and creating content, with an impressive track record in delivering viewers in Thailand. We’re also looking forward to seeing how the brand evolves and develops in the coming months.”

Although this is the first time that the Pogo brand has traveled outside India in this way, Turner has been very active recently in Thailand.

This announcement follows successful launches in Thailand for Turner’s other kids’ brands Boomerang and Toonami as a result of a partnership with the Major Kantana Group. At the same time, Cartoon Network on TrueVisions opened Cartoon Network Amazone, its first ever branded waterpark in Bang Saray, near Pattaya.

After the block’s launch, Turner and Channel 3 will explore opportunities for co-productions and local original production to offer even more tailor-made content to local viewers.
