Sequel of Phas Gaye Re Obama in offing

MUMBAI: On the heels of Barack Obama‘s re-election as the President of the United States Revel Films, the makers of the 2010 flick Phas Gaye Re Obama has declared that a sequel to the film will go on floors in the early part of 2013.

Producer Ashok Pandey said, “I think this is the perfect time for a sequel. In fact, we were thinking of this for some time now. Given that there was a very strong feeling that Obama would be returned to the seat of power for the second time.”

The film titled Bach Gaye Re Obama would be helmed by Anshul Sharma who was the associate director to Subhash Kapoor in the original.

Talking about the story of the upcoming film in short, Pandey said, “The bottom line of the film will be ‘getting out of recession.‘”

Though the makers want to retain the cast of the original, they are also thinking of roping in veterans like Paresh Rawal and Naseeruddin Shah.

In all probability, the film will release by spring in 2014.

MUMBAI: The second part (yet untitled) of Ashok Pandey‘s critically-acclaimed film Phas Gaye Re Obama is being helmed by Anshul Sharma. He replaces Subhash Kapoor who directed the original.

Confirming the news, producer Ashoke Pandey said, “Without giving away the plot at this early juncture, I would like to say that the story revolves around issues we face in day-to-day life, quite similar to what you have seen before. While Phas Gaye Re Obama was a satire on how the ripple effect of a recession hit America was felt in rural India too, the sequel too will be a satire on similar lines.”

Sharma, who had earlier worked as an associate director to Kapoor Pandey, said: “Yes, Anshul Sharma is directing the film. We had to come to this decision because Subhash is busy with something else right now and our timings didn‘t match.”

The original had Rajat Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Sanjay Mishra, Manu Rishi and Amole Gupte in the lead roles. The sequel has retained almost all the entire cast from the original except for Dhupia and Kapoor.

The film, 50 per cent complete, is expected to hit the theatres in summer 2012.

MUMBAI: Sanjay Mishra, whose acts in films like Toonpur Ka Superrhero, Phas Gaye Re Obama, Golmaal 3 and Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? has regaled audiences, is set to wear the directors hat in the soon-to-be launched Pranam-Walekum.

Pranam represent Hindu culture while Walekum notifies Muslim culture. With the film, Mishra wants to bridge the Hindu-Muslim amity; he wants to show some true facts that glorifies friendship among the two communities.

As the title suggests, Pranam – Walekum, with its tongue in cheek humor, takes a funny and satirical poke at religious tolerance and intolerance in India. Asked about choosing this unusual title, producer Sandiip reasons, “This is because it is an unusual story woven around a usual subject”.

Pranam Walekum, produced under the banner of Promodome Films, is set to go on floors from the second week of August.
