    Sky Sports & Warner Bros. Discovery announce multi-year extension of live PGA Tour coverage

    MUMBAI: Sky Sports announced that the deal to broadcast live PGA Tour events has been extended and the channel will now give golf fans the best in live action, according to a media news report.

    The report stated that Sky Sports will continue to show a minimum of 36 golf events per year as part of the agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery, the PGA Tour’s strategic partner. The agreement includes all PGA Tour FedExCup events, including the FedExCup Playoffs, Tour Championship, and Presidents Cup.

    “Sky Sports will broadcast PGA Tour events in a variety of ways, including Early Coverage, Marquee Group, Featured Holes, and Featured Groups. Sky Sports will also continue to provide the best TV coverage possible, bringing fans as close to the action as possible, including on-site with the Sky Cart, Sky Zone, and on-course commentary,” it said.

    Speaking on the expansion, Sky Sports managing director Jonathan Licht said, “We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with the PGA Tour. The extended deal cements Sky Sports’ place as the home of golf in the UK and Ireland and means our customers will be able to follow the key live-action on the Tour for years to come.”

    Eurosport SD and HD will telecast Charles Schwab Challenge from June 12 marking the return of live action from PGA TOUR. The Charles Schwab Challenge features the top-five ranked players in the world and 17 of the top 20 in the FedExCup Standings, with Feature Groups including Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka; Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas and Jordan Speith; Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose; and Phil Mickelson, defending champion Kevin Na and Gary Woodland. GOLFTV will follow the biggest names on the PGA TOUR live from the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas from 12-14 June at 01:30 hrs IST.

    MUMBAI:  Discovery Inc, the global leader in real life entertainment, today announced the purchase of a 71 per cent controlling stake in Play Sports Group – the digital sports media company behind market-leading cycling brands Global Cycling Network, Global Mountain Bike Network and Global Triathlon Network.

    The deal underpins Discovery’s ambition to build the number one cycling media ecosystem worldwide, leveraging its position as the global leader in live sports and a premiere rights holder for cycling events in Europe – through its principal sports brand Eurosport. In partnership with Play Sports Group, the world’s leading cycling community and digital destination of choice for cycling technology, training, tutorials, behind the scenes content and more, Discovery will create the first global ecosystem combining the best of community, content, lifestyle and events for the large and growing number of cycling enthusiasts – a $50bn global market.

    Discovery originally took a 20% stake in Play Sports Group in February 2017. This additional investment increases Discovery’s ownership of Play Sports Group, which will become a subsidiary of Discovery. Play Sports Group Founder and CEO, Simon Wear, and his team of 140 world class cycling experts across content, creative, digital, marketing and sales services, will join Discovery, forming a new global cycling-focused division in the company.

    MUMBAI: FedEx Corp and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have signed a three-season agreement in which FedEx will take the main sponsor position in the UEFA Europa League.

     

    The sponsorship will commence with the start of the 2015/2016 season and will extend for three seasons through to 2017/2018. A major European cup competition, the UEFA Europa League spans 192 teams across 54 European nations, which aligns with FedEx presence and network in the region.

The UEFA Europa League is an elite competition based on a foundation of grassroots football.     Ten Sports extends deal with US PGA Tour

    MUMBAI: Ten Sports has announced the extension of its broadcasting rights deal with the US PGA Tour, giving it coverage for the next three years.

    The deal allows Ten Sports to broadcast over 40 golf events each year.
    The Players Championship, the WGC-Mission Hills World Cup, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard, the WGC-Accenture Match Play and the Buick Invitational are just some of the events that will feature in the coverage.

    Ten Sports viewers will be treated weekly golf from players such as Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk and Tiger Woods.
    Ten Sports’ parent Taj Television CEO Chris McDonald said, “The US PGA Tour is the world’s premier tour and we are delighted to have renewed our existing contract. It proves once again Ten Sports ambition to continue to provide the very best in sports entertainment and set the highest standards in sports broadcasting.”

    Ten Sports had originally signed a short-term trial agreement with the Tour for 2006 for six events. Ten Sports VP programming Peter Hutton said, “The success of our coverage in 2006 means that we are now happy to sign a much bigger agreement for the next 3 years, which guarantees us live coverage of the world’s top golf on a weekly basis.”

    Ten Sports is already the rights holder to the European Tour and the US PGA Championship.

    Global sports TV forum Sportel Monaco sells 85 per cent of exhibition space

    MUMBAI: With two months to go before the opening of the sports television forum Sportel Monaco 2006, exhibitors have committed to more than 85 per cent of the expanded floor space in the Grimaldi Forum. The event takes place from 16-19 October 2006.

    Exhibitors include Total Sports Asia, A1GP World Cup Of Motorsport, AGFIS, Alcatel, BBC Worldwide, EBU, PGA Tour, HBO, the NBA and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

    Sportel CEO David Tomatis says, ” We have opened up every corner of the exhibition floor to add more stands and it is virtually certain that we will sell all existing space in the coming weeks.

    “We are continuing to focus on exciting new technologies involving the reception of sports content on mobile receivers, along with our traditional base of international TV sports. Sportel Monaco 2006 may very well be our largest market ever.”

    TWI comes out with podcast show on golf on iTunes

    MUMBAI: Former golf pros and Sky pundits Richard Boxall and Robert Lee will be sharing their expertise with golf fans in a podcast show on iTunes.

    Golf ‘n Around, a half-hour weekly show hosted by the duo, produced by TWI and sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, will provide listeners with an insightful and light hearted look at the world of Golf.

    The first edition of the show will provide a look back at the Volvo China Open and discuss the Verizon Heritage on the PGA Tour, as well as previewing this week’s European Tour event in Shanghai and the BMW Asian Open. Regular features will also include golf tips and miscellaneous items of interest.

    As well as having unparalleled access to the players and back-up personnel, Richard and Robert also promise to share anecdotes previously recounted amongst the close-knit golfing community. They joke, ‘What we know about golf you could write on a postage stamp with a paint brush. That’s why we’re pooling our knowledge to share it with the world.’
