  • Sahara One’s ‘Woh Rehne…’ performs well in the 9 pm slot

    MUMBAI: Sahara One’s show Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki (WRWMK) from the Rajshri stable has been performing well with the female audiences in the 9 pm slot.

    According to an official communiqué citing Tam data, the show delivered sustained TVRs across four weekday nights Monday to Thursday, hitting a high of 3.4 TVRs. Amongst females 15-34, it recorded average TVRs of 5.1, ahead of Sony’s 4.1 and Zee TV’s 0.9.

    The corresponding channel share for SaharaOne stood at 16.59 per cent — ahead of Sony’s 13.8 per cent and Zee’s 2.99 per cent.
     
     

    SaharaOne Television has claimed the number two position amongst the GECs in the 9 – 9:30 pm slot on weekdays (Monday -Thursday).

    WRWMK with its 3.4 TVRs is positioned at 54 in top 100 TV ratings compared to Sony’s Fame Gurukul’s 56th position with 3.3 TVRs in all age group, said an official release.

  • Discovery performs a ‘Mummy Autopsy’

    MUMBAI: On the heels of Egypt Week which it had aired in April Discovery has announced that it will continue to examine the mysteries of Egyptian culture with Mummy Autopsy. The show airs every Friday at 9 pm.

    Undertaking a study of bones, skin and textiles to profile people who lived and died a long time ago the Mummy Autopsy team of specialist scientists travel across continents analysing the final moments of a person’s life and the often strange circumstances and as yet unsolved circumstances surrounding his or her death.

    The team takes on cases like investigating a mummy in Scotland that may be a lost queen of Egypt. Another episode traces the last steps of a skeleton out of Wyoming’s Wild West in the US. Another episode connects a family of ancient Egyptians whose mummies are now spread across Brazil, Holland and in the UK.

    There are five scientists involved in the show. They include Tiffiny Tung who is an assistant professor of Anthropology at Vanderbilt University and Ken Nystrom who is a physical anthropologist at the university of New Mexico. His expertise encompasses caves and underwater archaeology.

  • Guitar maestro Joe Satriani performs in India this month

    MUMBAI: After the Sultan of Swing Mark Knopfler it is now the turn of another guitar legend Joe Satriani to take India by storm. Satriani will perform in Mumbai at the MMRDA Grounds on 13 May, in Kolkata on 15 May and in Bangalore at the Palace Grounds on 17 May 2005.

    This will be Satriani’s first visit to India and he is indeed very excited. He says, “India is a country of music lovers and I have always wanted to play here. I am waiting to meet all my fans in India at my concert.”

    Satriani is one of the most technically accomplished and widely respected guitarists to emerge in recent times. Amongst his million’s of fans are actors Saif Ali Khan and John Abraham, ad man Prahlad Kakar and model Marc Robinson.

     
     
    Satriani who is known as the God of Guitar taught Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde (Primus) , David Bryson (Counting Crows) and jazz- fusion player Charlie Hunter. Satriani still remains head and shoulders above most guitar gods through sheer good taste.

    Born in 1956 Satriani was inspired by Guitar legend Jimmy Hendrix. He picked up the guitar at the age of 14 although he was initially more interested in the drums. His first full –length solo albumNot of this Earth made ripples in the rock guitar community.

    Some of his other hits include Surfing With the Alien, Flying in a Blue Dream, One Big Rush, The Extremist and the Grammy nominated Engines of Creation which many say is his most daring creation ever.
