    Priyanka to deliver keynote at SAMMA

    Priyanka Chopra has been making waves on the international stage ever since the release of her first single In My City. Now adding yet another feather to her cap is the keynote that the actress will deliver at the 4th Annual South Asians in Media, Marketing and Entertainment Summit.

     

    Chopra will be one of the members delivering the keynote while the others include Dr. Mehmood Khan, EVP and Chief Innovations and Science Officer at PepsiCo and Keli Lee, EVP and Head of Casting at ABC Entertainment, according to a media release.

     

    The two-day networking conference for South Asian leaders and innovators in digital media, television, film, advertising, marketing and entertainment, is co-presented by SAMMA (the South Asians in Media, Marketing and Entertainment Association) and long time presenting sponsor Time Warner Inc.

    Facebook hires its first CMO ever

    MUMBAI: Facebook has hired Gary Briggs as its first chief marketing officer; most recently Briggs was an adviser to the head of Google (Motorola Mobility) division.

    Briggs is officially replacing VP-product marketing Eric Antonow who used to handle company’s marketing efforts since last two years and now he will work with Facebook head of consumer marketing Rebecca Van Dyck.

     

    Briggs will be responsible for product marketing, platform marketing and events, communication design, brand marketing and content strategy for Facebook.

     

    In his earlier stints, Briggs was a CEO of Plastic Jungle (a gift company); he has also worked for EBay, PayPal and PepsiCo.

     

    In a statement given to adage, Briggs said “Facebook isn’t just a company. For more than a billion people, it’s their connection to the friends and things they care about most. Telling the story of such an important and still very young brand is an incredible opportunity, and I cannot wait to get started.”

    Gozoop acquires Red Digital, doubles India revenue

    MUMBAI: Indian bred multinational digital agency Gozoop, which recently expanded its global presence by setting up operations in Singapore, has announced the acquisition of Red Digital, one of India’s leading social media agencies. With this business acquisition, clients and employees of Red Digital will be consolidated under the Gozoop brand, thus revitalising the latter’s Indian operations.

    The acquisition is in line with Gozoop’s strategy of increasing the revenue contribution from its Indian operations. Over the past few years, Red Digital has worked for several marquee brands such as Mumbai Indians, Dell, PepsiCo, BMW, Parker Pens, Adidas, PVR, Godrej, Berger Paints, Reliance Foundation, Educomp, Citibank, ICC and Discovery Channel.

    The acquisition of Red Digital will play a pivotal role in Gozoop’s global expansion in terms of operations and client portfolio. With Red Digital’s rich client base and strong presence in five key cities in India, and Gozoop’s international exposure and clientele, the combination will enhance Gozoop’s global presence and cost efficiencies.

    Currently, 65 per cent of Gozoop’s revenue is attributed to its international operations in UAE & Singapore. Post the acquisition and with a total of 65+ retainer clients, Gozoop aims to double its Indian revenue in the next financial year. Gozoop’s domestic operations will now contribute close to 50 per cent of revenues, an increase of 50 per cent from earlier. The acquisition will also increase the employee strength of the company to about 100 members, making Gozoop one of India’s largest digital agencies in terms of employee strength as well.

    Lays launches new cricket based campaign – ‘Ghar Banao Stadium’

    BENGALURU: After launching the ‘Lay‘s Flavour Team‘ campaign this cricket season, Pepsico‘s potato chip brand Lay‘s announced an all new campaign based on its consumers‘ cricket watching moments – ‘Ghar Banao Stadium‘ (GBS). The campaign is accompanied by a TVC that will be on air till 7 July 2013.

    With GBS, Lay‘s says that it is attempting to establish its recently enhanced range of six flavours with two new recent additions of ‘Chile Limon‘ and ‘French Salt n Cracked Pepper‘.

    A 50 day long consumer engagement campaign, the brand claims that GBS brings the cricket stadium closer home and gives consumers a chance to get a timeout with three cricket celebs from the Lay‘s Flavour Team- Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma, commentator Ravi Shastri and umpire Billy Bowden.

    As part of this campaign, consumers need to SMS a four digit promo code behind the Lay‘s pack. Three winners along with their friends get a chance to meet the celeb trio at the end of the campaign. Lay‘s will also announce one winner everyday who will get One Lakh rupees as the daily prize.

    Britannia appoints Varun Berry as COO, VP-marketing & Sales

    MUMBAI: Britannia Industries has announced key appointments in its management functions.

    The company has appointed Varun Berry as COO and VP of marketing, sales and innovation.

    He replaces Neeraj Chandra who has moved on to take over the role of VP of strategy and new business development.

    Berry comes in with over 27 years of work experience with premier companies like Hindustan Unilever and Pepsico, both in India and overseas.

    Britannia has also named Vinod Menon as the VP and CFO effective 1 February. Menon replaces Raju Thomas, who will relinquish his post on 31 January.

  • Madison Media picks Amit Duggal as director digital

    MUMBAI: Madison Media has appointed of Amit Duggal as digital director to head its Delhi and Kolkata Digital business.

    Duggal‘s last stint was with Mindshare where he was partner invention, leading the digital practice for Pepsico.

    He will report to Madison digital head V Achuthan Kutty.

    Madison Media group CEO Gautam Kiyawat said, “We are delighted to have Amit lead our team in Delhi and are confident that he will be able to add a lot of value to our digital clients and help them make Digital a significant driver of their business and also win new business”.

  • Social Wavelength to represent Radian6 in India

    MUMBAI: Mumbai-based social media agency Social Wavelength has partnered with Canada based social media monitoring agency Radian6. The Indian agency will be the representative for the Canadian agency in India.

    The partnership between Radian 6 (part of Salesforce.com) and Social Wavelength entails that all business of Radian 6 in India will largely be handled via Social Wavelength. Any leads generated by Radian 6 directly on their website, or through any other means, will come to Social Wavelength, to be managed further. Social Wavelength will also do its own independent marketing, and lead generation to sell maximum licenses of Radian 6.

    This will also include the large existing client base of Social Wavelength to whom the services of Radian 6 will be offered. Radian6’s clients include Dell, General Electric, Kodak, PepsiCo, Microsoft, Edelman, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide and Weber Shandwick.

    Social Wavelength joint CEO Sanjay Mehta said, “Over the last 3.5 years that we have been in the social media space, we have worked with number of social media monitoring tools, including Raidan 6. In terms of extent of coverage of content on social media, the user interface, the dashboards, the flexibility, the extensive reporting that it offers, and the many value-added features that it has and which it keeps introducing, we found no other tool to compare with Radian 6. Keeping this in mind, we started our discussions with Radian 6, and concluded this agreement with them recently.”

    While Radian 6 is a social media monitoring tool, often, in order to put together a solution of social media monitoring, there is a need for services, beyond the tool. These services will then be offered by Social Wavelength, to whoever may be interested. Therefore clients now get a one-stop solution of the tool and the services.

    Social Wavelength offers services like social media monitoring, online reputation management and social media analytics.

    “On account of ongoing support, training and sharing of global best practices, Radian 6 adds tremendous value on an ongoing basis.   • India gets 75 entries shortlisted at Spikes Asia 2012

    MUMBAI: Spikes Asia 2012 announced the shortlists for 10 categories on day one of the festival. India got 75 of its entries shortlisted across the 10 categories announced so far.

    The categories in which shortlists have been announced are- Design, Digital, Direct, Outdoor, Media, Mobile, PR, Print, Print & Poster Craft and Promo & Activation.

    The most number of shortlisted entries from India are 15 from BBDO India. This is followed by DDB Mudra with 11 and Leo Burnett with 10. Ogilvy & Mather has nine entries shortlisted and McCann and Cheil have six each.

    BBDO India has been shortlisted for work on PepsiCo, DHL, P&G Gillette and J&J. Gillette‘s ‘Shave for the soldier‘ campaign has four in the shortlist while Gillette‘s ‘You Shave I Shave‘ has three. DHL has six shortlists. PepsiCo‘s 7 Up ‘Tweetathon‘ and Johnson‘s Baby ‘DIY calendar‘ has also featured in the shortlist.

    DDB Mudra has got its entries shortlisted for its work done for Stedfast – Paper Shredders, Cancer Patients Aid Association, Shree Shakti Ayurvedic Niketan, Golden Beverages- Coffee Gold, Sanctuary Asia, Prism Papyrus, Water Design Studio, PE Electronics – Electrolux Air-Conditioners, Volkswagen – Volkswagen Attention Assist System, Volkswagen – VW Passat, and Blossom Book House.

    Leo Burnett has been shortlisted for P&G – Tide Detergent, Door Step School, Bajaj Electricals- Bajaj Exhaust Fans, Leo Burnett- Gandhiji Font and Coca-Cola India – Coke Studio while Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai has been shortlisted for Perfetti Van Melle India- Mentos Sour Marbels, Cancer Patients Aid Association – Anti-Smoking Initiative.

    McCann WorldGroup India got shortlisted for Mumbai Western Union -Money Transfer, Perfetti Van Melle – Big Babol, Videocon- Videocon Refrigerator, Mankind Pharma – Gas-O-Fast, Zee Network – Dish TV, ATSS – Security Solutions.

    Nominations for Film and Print Craft, Branded Content, Creative-Effectiveness and Integrated are still to be announced.

    The winners of the metals will be announced at the awards night on Tuesday 19th September 2012.

    The Spike Asia Awards are awards for creative communications. They reward the best entries in Film, Print, Outdoor, Radio, Digital, Direct, Promo & Activation, Media, Design, Film Craft, Print & Poster Craft, Integrated, Mobile, PR, Branded Content & Entertainment and Creative Effectiveness.

    The entries are judged by leading international and regional creatives in Singapore during the week of the Festival.

  • Ashwini Dhingra joins DDB Mudra

    MUMBAI: Ashwini Dhingra has been appointed DDB Mudra Delhi SVP and will report directly to DDB Mudra Group Delhi president Vandana Das. He will be handling some of the agency‘s Delhi-based clients such as Dabur, HBO, Jaypee Group, PepsiCo, Twinings and Wrigley‘s.

    Dhingra‘s previous stint was with JWT Kolkata where he was vice president and director client services. He started his career in 1990 with Specialty Papers and shifted to advertising in 1997 with Euro RSCG where he worked for 14 years before joining JWT in 2011. In his tenure of 15 years, Dhingra has worked with Essar Cellphone, Lacoste, Kohler, Lebon, IMT, Jaypee Group, Zee News, ITC, Mayur Plywood and Tata Steel to name a few.

    Pepsico renews strategic partnership with PVR

    MUMBAI: PepsiCo India, the leading food and beverage company, has renewed its strategic partnership with multiplex major PVR Limited.

    As part of this 5-year partnership, PepsiCo India will be the official ‘Pouring Partner‘ for carbonated soft drinks, health drinks, juice based drinks, beverages, packaged juices and water at all the 166 PVR screens spread in over 22 cities across India.

    With this, PepsiCo India intends to strengthen its position as a food and beverage player in the organised multiplex category.

    PVR Ltd chairman and managing director Ajay Bijli said, “The 15 years of association with PepsiCo have been truly fruitful and we aim to take it to the next level by announcing PepsiCo as official ‘pouring partner‘ for carbonated beverages, packaged juices and water at all our outlets across India.
