    Sony Pictures to distribute Peace Arch’s TV show ‘The Tudors’ globally

    MUMBAI: Canadian firm Peace Arch Entertainment has announced that Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired the distribution rights outside the US for DVD, television, mobile and new media for the 10-part television series The Tudors.

    Showtime Networks holds the US distribution rights to The Tudors scheduled to premiere in the US next year.

    The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation will broadcast the show in Canada, where Peace Arch Home Entertainment will distribute on DVD.

    The show tells the tale of the young, powerful, seductive King Henry VIII, focusing on the tumultuous early years of the ambitious King’s nearly 40-year reign of England. Bold and passionate about his country and his women, Henry’s obsession with ensuring his legacy led to beheadings of friend and foe, waging war, and challenging the almighty Catholic Church of England, forever changing the soul of the British Empire.

    The Tudors stars Golden Globewinning actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers Match Point, Bend It Like Beckham as the young, sexy and ruthless King Henry VIII; Sam Neill Jurassic Park plays Cardinal Thomas Wolsey – a minister who possessed great power until he failed his King; Henry Czerny Mission Impossible plays The Duke of Norfolk who learned that the only thing that mattered was winning and keeping the favor of the King.

    Jeremy Northam Gosford Park plays Sir Thomas More – a man whose principles sent him to the chopping block; Gabrielle Anwar Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead plays Princess Margaret, Henry’s spoiled sister who was married off to become Queen of Scotland.

    Peace Arch Entertainment to push drama ‘The Tudors’ at Mipcom

    MUMBAI: Film and television firm Peace Arch Entertainment Group has launched a multi-media marketing campaign for its 10 episode TV series The Tudors at the television trade event Mipcom which is currently on in Cannes, France.

    The launch consists of an extended trailer of the series, an eight page brochure, a multi-page print ad campaign, a focussed publicity effort, and a strong market floor presence led by Peace Arch executive VP Mary Herne.

    The Tudors is nearing the completion of principal photography, and now shooting on location in Ireland. It will air in the US next year on the Showtime cable network, a subsidiary of CBS. The series stars Golden Globe-winning actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Match Point, Bend It Like Beckham) as the young, dynamic and seductive Henry VIII, as well as Golden Globe nominated actor Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, Merlin) and actor Henry Czerny (Mission Impossible, Clear and Present Danger).

    The Tudors will focus on the early years of King Henry VIII’s famous — and sometimes infamous — four-decade reign over England, which was wrought with personal and political intrigues, including tumultuous relationships with Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn.

    The series will also depict such influential figures as the philosopher Sir Thomas More and Thomas Cardinal Wolsey, who led the Catholic Church of England during its break with Rome.

    Peace Arch Entertainment & Genius Products reach US distribution deal for Archetype Genre Films

    MUMBAI: North America’s Arch Entertainment Group Inc. and Genius Products, Inc. have entered into an exclusive agreement for Genius to distribute a new slate of cutting edge horror and thriller films from Peace Arch’s Archetype Films division. The announcement was made by Genius CEO Trevor Drinkwater and Peace Arch president John Flock.

    Under the agreement, Genius has acquired exclusive US DVD distribution rights to five new films from Peace Arch’s Archetype Films label, which focuses on the horror, thriller and action and science fiction genres:

    * “Warriors of Terra” stars Edward Furlong (“Terminator 2”) as a member of an animal rights group that penetrates a biotech facility and mistakenly releases a monster within.

    * “5ive Girls” stars Ron Perlman (“Hellboy”) as a Catholic school priest who helps five teenage girls with supernatural powers battle the ancient demon Legion.

    * “The Last Sect” starring David Carradine (“Kill Bill”) as a vampire hunter tracking a group of female vampires who use an Internet dating service to line up their victims.

    * “Ultimate Killing Machine” starring Michael Madsen (“Sin City”) as the head of a top-secret U.S. military operation that turns misfits and wash-outs into genetically engineered ultimate soldiers.

    * “Troubled Waters” starring Jennifer Beals (“The L Word”) as a determined detective with psychic powers investigating the suspicious kidnapping of a rich man’s daughter.

    “We are very excited to be getting into business with Genius just as they are emerging as one of the best independent home entertainment distributors in the country,” says Flock. “We believe that these five films will be excellent additions to their growing lineup of top quality productions, and we expect to continue supplying Genius with additional productions from our growing pipeline, whether first run productions from our film and television divisions, family and children’s product from our kaBOOM! Entertainment subsidiary or desirable catalogue content from the Castle Hill/Dream Library, which we recently agreed to acquire.”
