    Fujitsu Siemen’s new product looks to take entertainment on the PC to the next level

    MUMBAI: European IT provider Fujitsu Siemens Computers has launched its new range of entertainment PCs. the aim is to immserse th consumer into digital entertainment.

    The firm says that the high definition images and crisp surround sound makes users feel like they have dived into the PC game, or in the audience at a live concert. The flatscreen monitors are designed to fit seamlessly into the living room says the firm.

    The Scaleo EV PC has integrated Intel Viiv technology and is now more silent thanks to an improved housing and cooling concept.

    The Scaleo EV allows instant control of all TV, DVDs, music, films, photos and radio with one remote control. With the Intel High Definition Audio and 7.1 surround sound, one can listen to the cinema-like audio quality via the stereo.

    The digital video recorder (PVR) also lets viewers pause, record, and replay from the TV. This is the hub of the digital home – music stored on the PC can be played on the stereo, photos can be accessed on the television and stormed fils can be watched on other clients as laptops. It can store up to 320 GB of data, as well as thousands of photos.

    MUMBAI: The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) is organising the India Digital Summit 2007 on 18 and 19 January 2007 in New Delhi. This will look at the progress the internet and mobile are making.

    The organisation notes that the internet has ushered in a quiet but definite revolution at homes, offices and cyber cafes in India and changed the way we look for content, communicate or undertake commercial transactions. Whether it is through the PC or the ubiquitous mobile device, internet and wireless based technologies are transforming the socio-economic fabric of India in ways that we never thought of before.

    The combination of technologies and devices have for the first time thrown open the possibility of acting as a great leveler making it possible to ‘walk the talk’ on empowerment and inclusiveness. Communications, availability of content and commercial transactions are much more efficient. cost effective and pervasive due to these technologies.

    The speakers at the seminar will include People Group chairman Anupam Mittal, eBay India chairman Avnish Bajaj, On Mobile CEO Arvind Rao, ACL Wireless persident Atanu Mandal and Connecturf MD and CEO Neville Taraporewala.

    The first day looks at the internet. The topics are the driving forces of the Internet in India, how businesses can use it, what the net can offer and the role of the youth in driving net uptake. The second day looks at the mobile in terms of value added services. The speakers will look at what makes a successful mobile marketing company in India. then theer is the issue of forces that are driving adoption beyond metroplolitain cities.

    The panellists will also look at whether the policy environment is right for mobile value added services industry.

    Sky, Google unveil broadband alliance

     MUMBAI: UK pay TV service provider BSkyB and the world’s most valuable media firm Google have announced plans to work together in bringing ground-breaking web-based services to Sky’s community of broadband internet customers.

    The set of multi-year agreements sees two of innovators in technology and entertainment join forces to create a customised experience for Sky Broadband customers.

    Sky will be Google’s first partner globally to deploy Google’s suite of search, advertising, communications and video services, all of which will be tailored and branded for Sky’s fast-growing broadband platform. Sky aims to ensure that its broadband customers enjoy the best possible online user experience with customised access to the full benefits of Google’s evolving suite of innovative products for PC, TV and mobile.

    Sky and Google will collaborate in three areas:

    Video: Sky will launch a multi-platform User Generated Video (UGV) portal powered by the first global deployment of Google’s syndicated video content tools. The site will allow users to edit, upload and share their own video content, including the facility to upload and download from a mobile phone. The UGV portal will form part of a content-rich experience for Sky Broadband customers that will enhance the appeal of Sky’s broadband services, build community and promote Sky content to online audiences.

    Communications: Sky Broadband customers will enjoy access to an online communications platform. This will include a fully customised version of Google’s email product, ‘Google Mail’, which will use the popular ‘@sky.com’ email address. Powered by Google with a user interface and functionality customised to Sky’s unique specifications, the platform will also offer access to key communications applications that attract and deepen relationships with internet users, such as contacts, calendar and instant messaging.

    In addition, Sky will explore opportunities to provide further services such as Google’s VoIP (voice over internet protocol) telephony services, enhanced storage and future product developments.

    Search and advertising Google will provide its search tools and targetted search advertising across Sky’s portfolio of online sites. The two companies will also explore future forms of web, TV and mobile advertising. Revenue generated by click-throughs on sponsored links will be shared between Sky and Google, increasing Sky’s exposure to the fastest growing segment of the UK’s advertising market.

    Sony merges LCD TV with PC

    MUMBAI: Consumer electronics major Sony has announced a new product named – Vaio LS1 TV/PC combo. The company says that the product combines the power of a PC with the LCD quality and stylish design.

    Featuring a framed display with a transparent border for a floating effect, the LS1 model packs the essentials for powerful computing into a slim chassis discreetly hidden behind the back of a flat-panel 19-inch WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) LCD display.

    The new Vaio LS1 TV/PC model incorporates an Intel Core Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and a 250 GB hard drive for running multiple, demanding applications simultaneously. For instance, the customer can watch and/or record a TV show while downloading music in the background. The unit is a Windows Vista capable PC. It is also Windows Vista Premium ready.

    Sporting a 19-inch widescreen display powered by Sony’s XBRITE-HiColour technology, the unit doubles as a flat-panel TV.

    The LS1 model ships with Microsoft Windows XP MCE 2005 and a built-in NTSC TV tuner providing DVR-like recording capabilities. It also has a built-in DVD burner and Sony’s Click to DVD software so that the consumer can create a digital entertainment library for personal viewing at your convenience.

    The new Vaio TV/PC also features an audio/video quick resume switch that shuts down the display and the audio output without the PC having to enter sleep mode. This allows the user to return to full PC functionality without waiting for the computer to shut down or boot up.
