    ITC profit rises eight per cent as revenue hits Rs 18,953 crore in Q3 FY25

    MUMBAI: ITC has wrapped up the third quarter of FY25 on a strong note, delivering an eight per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth in gross revenue to Rs 18,953 crore, despite facing inflationary headwinds. The company’s diversified portfolio—spanning FMCG, agri-business, cigarettes, and paper—helped offset rising input costs in wheat, edible oil, and tobacco.

    The cigarette segment, ITC’s profit engine, recorded an 8.1 per cent YoY rise in net revenue, with segment profit before interest and tax (PBIT) up 4.1 per cent, aided by strategic portfolio interventions and premium offerings. FMCG (excluding cigarettes) grew four per cent YoY, driven by atta, spices, frozen snacks, and personal care products. The agri-business segment surged 9.7 per cent, powered by leaf tobacco and value-added agri exports, lifting PBIT by a robust 21.6 per cent.

    ITC’s paper and packaging business remained under pressure due to low-priced Chinese and Indonesian imports and rising domestic wood prices, though portfolio expansion and export growth provided some relief. Meanwhile, the recently demerged hotels business delivered its best-ever quarterly performance, with a 14.6 per cent YoY revenue jump to Rs 922 crore and a 43.4 per cent rise in PBT to Rs 302 crore, driven by weddings, retail, and F&B. The Hotels business was officially demerged into ITC Hotels Limited (ITCHL) with effect from 1st January 2025 and is now reported as ‘Discontinued Operations’ in line with Indian Accounting Standards.

    EBITDA for the quarter rose 3 per cent YoY, with a 4.5 per cent increase excluding the paper segment. Profit before tax (PBT) before exceptional items stood at Rs 6,847 crore, while profit after tax (PAT) reached Rs 5,638 crore. Earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter stood at Rs 4.51.

    The board has recommended an interim dividend of Rs 6.50 per share, reinforcing ITC’s strong shareholder returns. Looking ahead, the company remains optimistic, banking on premiumisation, strategic cost management, and sustained investments in emerging growth segments.

    BENGALURU: The demerged Hathway Cable and Datacom Ltd (Hathway) reported standalone profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 12.62 crore (8.7 per cent of operating revenue) for the quarter ended 31 March 2018 (Q4 2018, quarter under review), 47.1 per cent lower as compared PAT of Rs 23.87 crore (17.2 per cent of operating revenue) in the immediate trailing quarter Q3 2018 (q-o-q).  It may be noted that Hathway’s numbers for Q4 2017 include both cable television and broadband numbers and hence cannot be compared with Q4 2018 revenues that include only broadband revenue. Hence, Hathway’s numbers for the quarter under review have been compared to its numbers from the immediate trailing quarter Q3 2018 (quarter ended 31 December 2017). As a matter of fact, after the transfer of the Hathway’s cable television business as a slump sale since Q1 2018, the company has reported standalone profits after tax for each quarter as well as for fiscal 2018.

    Hathway’s standalone total revenue of Rs 149.24 for Q4 2018 was 5.1 per cent more q-o-q then Rs 144.53 crore for Q3-2081. Revenue from operations in Q4 2018 was 5.1 per cent higher q-o-q at Rs 145.74 crore than Rs 138.65 crore.

    Hathway’s total comprehensible income (TCI) for the quarter under review was 43.9 per cent lower q-o-q at 13.47 crore than Rs 24.01 crore. Simple operating EBITDA for Q4 2018 at 59.04 crore (40.5 per cent of operating revenue) was 1.7 per cent lower q-o-q than Rs 60.6 crore (43.3 per cent of operating revenue).

    Hathway’s total expenditure in the quarter under review increased 12.4 per cent q-o-q to Rs 135.70 crore from Rs 120.70 crore. Finance costs in Q4 2018 increased 17.1 per cent q-o-q to Rs 23.37 crore from Rs 17.54 crore. Employee Benefits Expense in Q4 2018 reduced 1.7 per cent q-o-q to Rs 11.14 crore from Rs 11.33 crore. Other expenses in the quarter increased 26.6 per cent q-o-q to Rs 43.32 crore from Rs 34.20 crore. Other operational costs reduced 2.5 per cent q-o-q in Q4 2018 to Rs 32.25 crore from Rs 33.06 crore in Q3 2018.

    Hathway’s standalone numbers for FY 2018

    Hathway’s standalone operating revenue or broadband revenue for the year ended 31 March 2018 (year under review, FY 2018) was Rs 544.54 crore. Standalone total revenue for FY 2018 was Rs 556.51 crore. The company reported standalone TCI of Rs 78.92 crore. Standalone PAT for 2018 was Rs 77.66 (14.3 per cent of operating revenue). Total expenditure for the year under review was Rs 495.06 crore.

    Hathway’s consolidated numbers for FY 2018

    Hathway reported consolidated total revenue of Rs 1,544.33 crore for the year ended 31 March 2018 (year or fiscal under review, FY 2018) was 12.9 per cent more than Rs 1,368.25 crore in FY 2017. Revenue from operations including other operating revenue in FY 2018 was 14.1 per cent higher in FY 2018 at Rs 1,534.62 crore than Rs 1,344.40 crore in the previous year. The company reported a lower total comprehensible loss (TCL) of Rs 105.21 crore for FY 2018 as compared to TCL of Rs 193.19 crore for FY 2017. Net loss for the year under review was also lower at Rs 108.30 crore as compared to Rs 193.79 crore in FY 2017.

    Consolidated total expenditure for FY 2018 at Rs 1,686.45 crore was 7.8 per cent higher than Rs 1,564.17 crore in FY 2017. Consolidated pay channel cost during the year under review was 20.7 per cent higher at Rs 569.35 crore as compared to Rs 471.69 crore in FY 2017. Consolidated other operating costs in FY 2018 were 2.9 per cent higher at Rs 263.90 crore as compared to Rs 256.47 crore in FY 2017. Consolidated employee benefits expense during the period under review reduced 17.3 per cent to Rs 76.99 crore from Rs 93.15 crore in the previous year. Consolidated finance cost in FY 2018 was 37.9 per cent higher at Rs 152.76 crore as compared to Rs 110.75 crore in the previous fiscal. Consolidated other expenses reduced 11.5 per cent in FY 2018 to Rs 288.75 crore from Rs 326.26 crore in FY 2017.

    Hathway’s consolidated numbers include revenue from two segments – broadband business and cable TV. The standalone numbers mentioned above were for Hathway’s broadband business. Cable television revenue for FY 2017 was Rs 990.08 crore and an operating loss of Rs 129.33 crore.

Hence, Hathways numbers for the current quarter have been compared to its numbers from the immediate trailing quarter Q2 2018 (quarter ended 30 September 2017). As a matter of fact, after the transfer of Hathway’s cable television business as a slump sale since Q1 2018, the company has reported PAT for each quarter.

    Hathway’s total revenue of Rs 144.53 crore for the quarter under review was 5.4 per cent more q-o-q than Rs 136.97 crore. Revenue from operations in Q3 2018 was 5.8 per cent higher q-o-q at Rs 138.61 crore than Rs 131.4 crore.

    Hathway’s total comprehensible income (TCI) for the current quarter was 71.9 per cent higher q-o-q at Rs 24.01 crore as compared to Rs 13.98 crore. Simple operating EBIDTA for Q3 2018 at Rs 60.2 crore (43.3 per cent of operating revenue) was 14.2 per cent higher q-o-q than Rs 52.55 crore (40.1 per cent of operating revenue).

    Hathway’s total expenditure in the quarter under review declined 1.9 per cent q-o-q to Rs 120.70 crore from Rs 123.07 crore. Finance costs in the current quarter declined 13.1 per cent q-o-q to Rs 17.54 crore from Rs 20.19 crore. Employee benefits expense in Q3 2018 increased 7.6 per cent q-o-q to Rs 11.33 crore from Rs 10.53 crore. Other expenses in the quarter declined 2.5 per cent q-o-q to Rs 34.20 crore from Rs 35.07 crore. Other operational expenses reduced 0.5 per cent in Q3 2018 to Rs 32.89 crore from Rs 33.06 crore.

    BENGALURU: The demerged Hathway Cable and Datacom Limited (Hathway) reported standalone profit before tax (PBT) of Rs 140.1 million for the quarter ended 30 September 2017 (Q2-18,current quarter) as compared PBT of Rs 100.3 million in the immediate trailing quarter Q1-18 (q-o-q). It may be noted that Hathway’s numbers for Q2-17 include both cable television and broadband numbers and hence cannot be compared with Q2-18 revenues that include only broadband revenue. Hence, Hathways numbers for the current quarter have been compared to its numbers from the immediate trailing quarter Q1-18 (quarter ended 30 June 2017)

    Hathway’s total revenue of Rs 1,370.8 million for the current quarter was 5.5 percent more q-o-q than Rs 1,299.4 million. Revenue from operations in Q2-18 was 1.7 percent higher q-o-q at Rs 1311.5 million than Rs 1290 million.

    Hathway’s total comprehensible income (TCI) for the current quarter was a little more than half (lower by 49.1 percent) q-o-q at Rs 139.8 million as compared to Rs 274.6 million on account of exceptional items that had increased TCI in Q1-18 by Rs 1713 million. Simple operating EBIDTA for Q2-18 at Rs 526.6 million was 7.6 percent higher q-o-q than Rs 489.4 million.

    Hathway’s total expenditure in the current quarter increased 2.6 percent q-o-q to Rs 1,230.7 million from Rs 1,199.1 million. Finance costs in the current quarter increased 17.1 percent q-o-q to Rs 201.9 million from Rs 172.4 million. Employee benefits expense in Q2-18 increased 18.3 percent q-o-q to Rs 105.3 million from Rs 89 million. Other operational expenses in the current quarter increased 6.8 percent q-o-q to Rs 328.9 million from Rs 307.9 million. Other expenses reduced 13.1 percent in Q2-18 to Rs 350.7 million from Rs 403.7 million.

At least that ‘s what the Essel group is aiming for if one goes by the name change it has resorted to at its national cable TV MSO Siti Cable. Last week, It informed the Bombay stock exchange, that it will be called Siti Networks as it has got shareholders (earlier) and the Registrars’ approval on 5 August for the renaming. The company was originally incorporated as Wire and Wireless (India) Ltd.

    As reported by Indiantelevision.com earlier, Siti Networks reported 29.4 per cent growth in revenue for the fiscal ended 31 March 2016 (FY-16, current fiscal). The company reported revenue of Rs 1213 crore in FY-16 as compared to Rs 937 crore in the previous year. Operating profit (EBIDTA) in the current year increased to Rs 323 crore as compared to Rs 168.4 crore in FY-15.

    The company has reported a profitable turnaround for the first time in its history. Neglecting the impact of minority interest, Siti profit after tax in the current year was Rs 6.84 crore as compared to a loss (without factoring in minority interest) of Rs 101.88 crore in FY-15.The company’s loss in the current year declined to Rs 1.71 crore from a loss of Rs 109.10 crore in FY-15. Siti reported profit before tax (PBT) at Rs 22 crore in FY16 as compared to a negative PBT of Rs 85.2 crore.

    Siti’s cable subscribers in FY-16 grew to 1.22 crore from 1.05 crore reported at the end of FY-15. The growth happened in Q3-16.

    On the other hand the digital subscribers in FY-16 increased to 79 lakh (64.8 percent of cable subscribers) as compared to 53.8 lakh in FY-15 (51.2 percent of cable subscribers). Digital subscribers in the quarter ended 31 March 2016 (Q4-16, current quarter) increased by 11 lakh to 79 lakh as compared to 68 lakh in Q3-16.

    Whereas, the broadband subscribers in FY-16 grew 93.3 percent to1.355 lakh from 0.701 lakh in FY-15. Broadband subscribers in Q3-16 were 1.07 lakh.

    Inventory increase jacks Sahara One profit for Q2-2014 despite 31.1 per cent revenue drop

    BENGALURU: Sahara One Media and Entertainment Limited (Sahara One) reported increase in inventory of Rs 3.64 crore for Q2-2014 (90.8 per cent of the total PAT) as compared to reduction in inventory of Rs 1.39 crore for Q2-2013 and a reduction in inventory of Rs 1.73 crore for Q1-2014.

     

    Sahara One reported a PAT of Rs 4.1 crore, 8.1 per cent higher than the PAT of Rs 3.79 crore for the corresponding period of last year and more than triple (3.38 times more) the Rs 1.21 crore for the immediate trailing quarter.

     

    Despite a 31.1 per cent drop in Income from operations for the current quarter to Rs 22.61 crore as compared to the Rs 32.80 crore for y-o-y and a reduction of 17.5 as compared to the Rs 27.42 crore q-o-q, the company reported an increase in PAT. The company reported a PBT of Rs 6.15 crore which was 8.8 per cent higher than the Rs 5.65 crore for Q2-2013 and more than triple (3.47 times) the Rs 1.77 crore for the immediate preceding quarter.

     

    Let us look at the other results for Q2-2014 recorded by Sahara One

     

    Other income for Q2-2014 at Rs 2.54 crore was less than half (43.8 per cent) of the Rs 5.79 crore for Q2-2013 and 12.5 per cent lower than the Rs 2.9 crore for Q1-2014.

     

    Total Expenditure reported for Q2-2014 at Rs 18.99 crore was 57.7 per cent of the expenditure of Rs 32.94 crore for Q2-2013 and 33.6 per cent lower than the Rs 28.54 crore for Q1-2014. However, if one were to neglect the effect of the above mentioned increase in inventory of Rs 3.64 crore for Q2-2014 total expense was Rs 22.63 crore.

     

    For Q2-2014, the company reported lower expenditure towards purchase of content at Rs 17.51 crore, as compared to the Rs 27.41 crore (36.1 per cent lower y-o-y ) and 19.4 per cent lower than the Rs 21.73 crore for Q1-2014.

     

    The company has reported revenues from three sources – Television and Movies segments and unallocated revenue.

     

    Television segment reported a 30 per cent drop in revenue to Rs 23.46 crore for Q2-2014 as compared to the Rs 33.53 crore for Q2-2013 and 17 per cent lower than the Rs 28.26 crore for Q1-2014. This segment reported operating profit at Rs 7.29 crore that was more than double (2.52 times) the Rs 2.90 crore for Q2-2013 and almost triple (2.93 times) as compared to the Rs  2.49 crore for Q1-2014.

     

    Income from the movies segment was nil for the current and the corresponding quarter of the last quarter, and just Rs 0.0134 crore for Q1-2014. This segment reported a loss of Rs (-0.1969) crore for Q2-2014 as compared to a loss of Rs (-31.07) crore for Q1-2013 and Rs (-0.1573) crore for Q1-2014.

     

    Sahara One reported unallocated income of Rs 1.68 crore for Q2-2014, a little less than one third (33.13 per cent) of the Rs 5.07 crore for Q2-2013 and 17.7 per cent lower than the Rs 2.04 crore for Q1-2014. For Q2-2014, this revenue source reported a 68.6 per cent higher loss at Rs (-0.94) crore as compared to the loss of Rs (-0.55) crore for the corresponding quarter of last year. Unallocated source of income reported a positive Rs 3.08 crore for Q1-2014.

     

    Capital employed (Segment assets minus segment liabilities) by the television segment rose 80.6 per cent to Rs 78.09 crore for Q2-2014 as compared to the Rs 43.25 crore for Q2-2013 and 34.8 per cent higher than the Rs 57.95 crore for Q1-2014.

     

    Capital employed by the movies segment at Rs 86.27 crore for Q2-2014 was 3.1 per cent more than the Rs 83.71 crore for Q2-2013 and almost flat as compared to the Rs 82.17 crore for Q1-2014.

     

    Unallocated capital employed for Q2-2014 at Rs 133.62 crore was 19.5 per cent lower than the Rs 165.99 crore for Q2-2013 and 10.8 per cent lower than the Rs 149.77 crore for Q1-2014.

    BENGALURU: Zee Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL) unaudited results for Q2-2014 reveal that though advertising revenue for Q2-2014 at Rs 59.92 crore showed a growth of 20.5 per cent as compared to the Rs 43.92 crore for Q2-2013, it kept pace with the Rs 59.9 crore for the immediate preceding quarter (Q1-2014). ZMCL’s advertising revenue in Q4-2013 was Rs 52.19 crore.

     

    “The economy may have sputtered a bit but it is expected to be on track soon. What is important is that we continue to base our strategy on a sound understanding of our consumers and provide them with relevant and unique content experiences in the news domain,” said ZMCL non executive chairman of the board Subash Chandra.

     

     Let us take a look at ZMCL’s other Q2-2014 figures

     

    Operating revenue for Q2-2014 grew by 18.5 per cent to Rs 83.02 crore from Rs 70.03 crore in Q2-2013 and by 6.9 per cent from the Rs 77.68 crore reported in Q1-2014 (immediate preceding quarter).  

     

    ZMCL’s subscription revenue for Q2-2014 at Rs 24.9 crore grew by 11.9 per cent y-o-y from the Rs 22.26 crore in Q2-2013, and by 18.6 per cent from the Rs 18.6 crore in Q1-2014. Revenue from Other Sales and Services for Q2-2014 at Rs 5.2 crore grew more than a third (35.1 per cent) as compared to the Rs 3.85 crore in Q2-2013 and by 37.6 per cent as compared to the Rs 3.78 crore in Q1-2014.

     ZMCL’s recorded a fall in PBT of (-7.8 per cent) to Rs 6.47 crore in Q2-2014 from Rs 7.02 crore in Q2-2013. However PBT of Rs 14.99 crore for the half year ended 30 September 2013 was higher by 35.8 per cent as compared to the PBT of Rs 11.04 crore for the corresponding period of the previous year. Q2-2014 EBITDA also fell by (-4.8 per cent) to Rs 74.8 crore from Rs 78.6 crore reported in Q2-2013. However, ZMCL says that its existing news channels grew their EBITDA by 25.2 per cent on YTD basis at Rs 30.83 crore improving their EBITDA margins from 18.6 per cent to 21 per cent.

    ZMCL group CEO news cluster Bhaskar Das said, “We launched Zee Rajasthan Plus in Rajasthan in early July and will soon launch in other regional markets. New media, which has been another focus area for us, has continued to show strong growth numbers.”

    BENGALURU: Indian cable TV distribution company Den Networks Limited (Den Networks) seems to be on a roll. Its cable business PBT in Q1-2014 was Rs 32.77 crore despite a 22 per cent rise in depreciation and finance costs as against Rs 36.81 crore in Q4-2013.

     

    Den Networks cable business PBT in Q1-2014 was Rs 32.77 crore as compared to Rs 18.40 crore in Q1-2013, up 78 per cent y-o-y. The company’s PAT (before mark to market forex losses, exceptional one-time and ESOP expense) for Q1-2014 was Rs 19.22 crore versus Rs 17.04 crore in Q1-2013, a 13 per cent rise as compared to Q4-2013. After these adjustments, Den Networks cable business PAT stood at Rs 9.22 crore.

     

    Den Networks cable business EBITDA for Q1-2014 was Rs 85.84 crore as against. Rs 43.82 crore in Q1-2013, a 96 per cent y-o-y jump, and was seven per cent more than the Rs 80.33 crore in Q4-2013.

     

    The company’s consolidated EBITDA for Q1-2014 was Rs 87.68 crore, almost double (up by 95 per cent) the Rs 45.06 crore in Q1-2013, but only 3.22 per cent more than the Rs 84.94 crore in Q4-2013.

     

    Let us look at Den Networks other figures for Q1-2014

     

    Den Networks’ consolidated revenue for Q1-2014 was Rs 275.42 crore as compared to the Rs 200.60 crore in Q1-2013, up by 37 per cent y-o-y, but was slightly lower (by 1.04 per cent) than the Rs 278.31 crore for Q4-2013.

     

    The cable distribution company’s consolidated PBT for Q1-2014 was Rs 34.49 crore while consolidated PAT for the quarter stood at Rs 10.15 crore which included the impact of mark-to-market forex losses of Rs 10 crore and higher depreciation and finance costs compared to Q4-2013.

     

    Den Networks cable business revenue for Q1- 2014 was Rs 262.85 crore as compared to the Rs 264.93 crore in Q4-2013. Revenues in Q4-2013 included Rs 15.10 crore on account of a one-time sale of Set Top Boxes (STBs). Excluding the impact of this sale, Den Networks cable business revenues grew by 5.2 per cent q-o-q (as compared to Q4-2013).

     

    Den Networks’ consolidated expenditure for Q1-2014 at Rs 187.74 crore was up 20.9 per cent as compared to the Rs 155.54 crore in Q1-2013, but was 2.9 per cent lower than the Rs 193.37 crore for Q4-2013.

     

    Consolidated operation, administrative and other costs for Q1-2014 at Rs 160.70 crore were up 20.4 per cent as compared to the Rs 133.52 crore in Q1-2013 but 2.4 per cent lower than the Rs 164.68 crore in Q4-2013.

     

    Den Networks consolidated Personnel cost for Q1-2014 at Rs 27.04 crore was 28 per cent more than the Rs 22.02 crore for Q1-2013, but 5.75 per cent lower than the Rs 28.69 crore in Q4-2013. Consolidated depreciation for Q1-2014 at Rs 33.22 crore was more than double (more by 113.5 per cent) as compared to the Rs 15.56 crore in Q1-2013 and 21.8 percent higher than the Rs 27.27 crore in Q4-2013.

     

    Consolidated interest and other financial charges of Rs 19.97 crore were more than double the Rs 9.97 crore for Q1-2013 and 22.1 per cent more than the Rs 16.36 crore in Q4-2013.

The major focus areas now are the completion of package selection by subscribers, collection of KYC data and the start of retail consumer billing, which are being spurred on by MSOs with a strong regulatory backing. These steps will truly complete our industry’s transformation into a B2C model. We are also drawing up plans for digitising our analog base in Phase III and IV cities while gearing up for our broadband foray.”

     

    Den Networks recently launched two digital cable channels – DEN Movies and DEN Classic, available to Den Network subscribers in selected areas. The company says that it sees the local cable channel segment become a potential growth area along with the spread of digitisation.
