Indian musicians reinterpret global artists in Paytm Insider’s ‘Jim Beam Originals’

MUMBAI: Paytm Insider’s penchant for creative innovation with Jim Beam’s enthusiasm stirred into the mix has resulted in the creation of the novel musical property Jim Beam Originals. In this series of 10 virtual music experiences, famous Indian musicians will reinterpret legendary international artists in their own inimitable styles. Giving a new spin to the works of major global icons are Colonial Cousins, Shalmali, Benny Dayal, Shaan, Purbayan Chatterjee, Karsh Kale, Raghu Dixit, Usha Uthup, Thaikuddam Bridge, and Shor Police.

Curated and promoted by Turnkey Music Publishing and Music Plus, the first season of the show will go live on 7 November 2020. These sixty-minute sessions will reveal new dimensions not only to the Indian musicians but to the immensely popular and widely played works of these international artists, thereby creating unique, yet familiar sounds.

Kickstarting this incredible roster of cultural confluence are the fusion Indipop group Colonial Cousins, who will employ their signature style to recreate an abridged The Eagles’ discography.

They will be followed by the inimitable Shalmali on November 21, who will be presenting a thrilling rendition of Michael Jackson’s hits. An award-winning, multi-lingual playback singer, Shalmali will give her own hue to the King of Pop’s massive body of work.

Varun Khare, business head live entertainment (IPs & partnerships) at Paytm Insider, said that through Jim Beam Originals, the company is attempting to create a platform where the best names in Indian music will bring their own distinctive perspective to popular hits.

Turnkey Music Publishing founder Atul Churamani added that the initiative could have some great positives for the music business. “First, it’s a big promotion for international music which one would love to see more of. Second and very importantly, it could set a business model rolling for online gigs. I am very excited about the music we are going to hear, given the calibre of artists we are working with and paying tributes to.”

Paytm Insider introduces interactive streaming to its creator tools

KOLKATA: In a latest update to its self-publish ticketing solution, Paytm Insider now provides video streaming capabilities with interactivity for events. Organisers can create, ticket, host events and control engagements during the event from the same self-publish creator tool in use for listing events by thousands of creators and artists across the country.

Events on interactive streaming come with live chat, emoji reactions and various engagement options during the event such as Q&A sessions, polls and fill in the blanks. Videos can be live streamed from a streaming software and creators can also plug in pre-recorded content with ease. The latter comes handy for event formats with high production values such as music concerts. The solution supports 4K resolution videos and 360-degree VR videos as well, enabling organisers to think beyond webinar formats.

Paytm Insider CEO Shreyas Srinivasan says, “Over the last few months, we’ve released product updates that helped ease the transition from listing physical events to ticketed digital event solutions for organisers. Our next set of features focus on raising the experience of a digital event. Our intent is not to replicate a physical event experience online but go after its core premise. At the end of the day, events are social experiences and the more we bring the sentiment of community and conversation, the faster a user will acclimatize to and adopt digital events.”

Paytm Insider’s pilot events with interactivity have included a virtual-reality based music concert  'Retrofuture' featuring Nucleya, Anish Sood and Ritviz which 6000+ fans from all across India tuned in for, a live quiz 'Tough Questions' with popular comics Kanan Gill and Abish Mathew, and a listening session with Nikhil D’Souza on the launch of his new EP – 'Waqt'.

  • QTP’s uplifting play Every Brilliant Thing set for its first digital showcase with Paytm Insider

QTP’s uplifting play Every Brilliant Thing set for its first digital showcase with Paytm Insider

NEW DELHI: Over the years, mental health and wellness have been the subject of various arts from books, art, cinema to theatre. Today when mental health issues have been thrown into sharper relief than ever before, these stories are taking center stage.  For its first play under Paytm Insider’s recently announced theatre initiative, Front & Centre, the platform is bringing one such fascinating and heart-wrenching story – ‘Every Brilliant Thing’, produced by QTP,  directed by Quasar Thakore Padamsee and performed by Vivek Madan.

Front & Centre, which reimagines theatre in digital formats, is presenting the play’s very first digital edition, bringing this treasured work of art online. Every Brilliant Thing will premiere online on July 18th. Tickets priced at Rs. 400 are available on Paytm Insider.

Other than its poignant subject-matter, what sets this production of Every Brilliant Thing apart is its live participative format where the audience is invited to interact with each other and the performer to take the story forward. Since the play contains sensitive and potentially triggering material, it is available only for audiences above the age of 18. At its heart, Every Brilliant Thing aims to start conversations about mental health issues. This showcase will be followed by a 20 minutes opportunity for audiences to ask questions, share observations or start a dialogue with professionals working in the field of mental health care, who will also be present during the live stream.

Every Brilliant Thing is an uplifting story about love, life, family, mental health, and a much-required list of all the wonderful things in the world. It encourages the viewers to celebrate the joy found in everyday objects. The play is written by Johnny Donahoe and by Duncan Macmillan, an award-winning writer and theatre director. Duncan Macmillan’s previous works also cover contemporary socio-political issues and include productions such as People, Places and Things, and 2071.

Every Brilliant Thing’s online performance is produced by prominent theatre and arts management company QTP. Known for creating unique and engaging experiences for live audiences, the theatre company is the one behind the critically acclaimed plays So Many Socks, The President is Coming, Khatijabai of Karmali Terrace, A Peasant of El Salvador, and The God of Carnage in India, and has spearheaded international collaborations such as Nirbhaya, Gates to India Song, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Speaking on the launch, Paytm Insider's  Business head, Live entertainment (IPs & Partnerships)- Varun  Khare at , said, “It is our honour to showcase a production as moving and relevant as Every Brilliant Thing on Paytm Insider. Creating a digital rendition of a work of art that is meant to be delivered live is an exciting challenge. We look forward to witnessing the magic that QTP, Quasar, and Vivek create on the screen, and to have this be the start for plays performed under Front & Centre.

Every Brilliant Thing director Quasar Thakore Padamsee said, “Every Brilliant Thing was designed to be a communal experience that brings the live performer and live audience to a shared space and encourages positive interaction between the two. As plays go online during this lockdown, however, we cannot simply call it online theatre. It is an entirely new medium, one that requires cumulative efforts of everyone executing the play to create an immersive experience that evokes that familiar sense of community, even though we’re all isolated with our devices. It is, thus, not just a digital rendition but a recreation or a reinvention of the play we know so well. Needless to say, it’s a new challenge altogether, and we’re more than exuberant to face it head-on!”

Vivek Madan, lead cast, Every Brilliant Thing, said, “The play is an insight or a window into a person’s life. Although it deals with sensitive topics, it is fun, even funny at times, and, most of all, scarily relatable. It is completely real and there is no artifice. I am simply sharing a story with the audience that I’m grateful that people are around to listen to.”

Paytm Insider announces its new theatre initiative, ‘Front & Centre’

NEW DELHI: India’s leading entertainment ticketing platform, Paytm Insider is set to deliver theatre experiences digitally with its new initiative, ‘Front & Centre’. Created keeping in mind storytellers as well as theatre-lovers, this initiative aims to bring the experience of theatre alive, online.

‘Front & Centre’ is launching with a showcase of notable plays Every Brilliant Thing by QTP and Iti Ninna Amrita (Kannada) by Rangashankara Theatre in July, followed in August by One on One – Unlocked by Rage Productions, Timeloss produced by Akvarious Productions and Doppelganger by The Company Theatre. A key focus for Paytm Insider with this is bringing theatre productions in regional languages from across India in the spotlight. The plays currently featured are in Hindi, English and Kannada and more productions in other languages will continue to be added.

Paytm Insider CEO, Shreyas Srinivasan, adds “Over the last year, we’ve brought several exciting theatre productions forward including plays by Aadyam, Salim-Suleiman’s Umrao Jaan and storytelling works by Kommune. The launch of Front & Centre reaffirms our investment in strengthening the vibrant theatre ecosystem in India.”

‘Front & Centre’ has conducted its first workshops with sessions on Audio Drama with Frederick Greenhalgh, Scriptwriting with Carl Miller, and Comedy writing with Anuvab Pal. With these workshops, Paytm Insider aims to provide a lens into the art of theatre for those already in the field, and even for those stepping into it. Paytm Insider is supported on this initiative by Shernaz Patel and Nadir Khan, using decades of their experience to re-imagine theatre for the digital world.

Speaking on the IP, Creative consultant, Front & Centre, Nadir Khan, said, “Lockdowns and social-distancing provide much disturbance to a form that is meant to be consumed live and is essentially a dialogue between a performer and a live audience. At its very core, however, theatre is about story-telling. Stories that need to be told and need to be heard. Stories that excite, entertain, provoke, educate and inspire. With Front & Centre, we’re hoping to provide a home for theatre practitioners to continue doing just that, albeit online for now. It’s a new medium, really, and the challenges that come with that are both exciting and daunting.  I’m very happy, therefore, that Paytm Insider has decided to dive head-first into it with Front & Centre and has allowed me to be a part of that journey. I’m certain that this will help Indian theatre to continue to work, grow, collaborate, innovate, stay relevant, engage and (most of all) continue that dialogue between the performer and  audience.”

Speaking on the IP, Creative consultant, Front & Centre, Shernaz Patel – "If I had been told three months ago that the internet would be my new stage and the sofa my new auditorium I would have laughed disbelievingly. I am a purist. I thrive on the live and immediate thrill of theatre and shy away from technology. And yet like it or not here we are. I could have hibernated. But Insider’s Front & Centre came along at the right time and made me embrace this new normal. Because it’s a platform that understands that theatre is vital. That theatre is where compelling stories get told. That theatre has a unique place in our collective culture to educate, inspire and entertain."

Speaking on the launch, Paytm Insider Business Head Live entertainment (IPs & Partnerships) –  Varun  Khare said, “As large gatherings to watch theatre productions remain a thing of the distant future and live performing arts are adopting a new alternative of moving online. We're working hard to create a sustainable ecosystem for artists, producers, promoters & all those behind the scenes to come together to continue entertaining fans across the country. We strive to make it a great alternative medium to entertain fans. With Front & Centre, we hope to (re)connect fans with the power of theatre and storytelling.”

  • OML’s The Circuit #SitDown Comedy Festival goes digital with Paytm Insider

OML’s The Circuit #SitDown Comedy Festival goes digital with Paytm Insider

MUMBAI: Tickets to OML’s multi-genre comedy festival The Circuit #SitDown Comedy Festival went live with tickets on Paytm Insider yesterday. The festival due to begin in March was called off pre-emptively after the COVID-19 outbreak in India. The festival is now back on in its digital avatar with Paytm Insider powering a seamless experience for the organisers, artists and fans.

Paytm Insider recently announced a roll-out of new features to enable organisers to publish tickets and manage their event online. The platform currently supports Zoom-based event publishing. Customers who purchase tickets get their event access details on the ticket and a reminder when the show is about to go live. This will be the first digital comedy festival of its kind using the platform’s capabilities.

Simply having the ability to perform for a “live” audience changes the experience for the artist. Paytm Insider which ticketed over 6,000 comedy shows in 2019-20 understands and values this.

Paytm Insider CEO Shreyas Srinivasan says: “We went back to the roots of what makes an event special – for an artist and for a fan. Paytm Insider is bridging the distance between the two when events are being run digitally. With our new event self-publishing features, we enable artists and organisers to once again count on ticketing revenue.”

Starting this week, Paytm Insider will also run contests to provide erstwhile IRL “meet and greet” experiences for fans, this time over video. The Circuit Comedy Festival will be on from April 22 – 26, bringing some of the best and new comedy talent straight to your screens, in fresh interactive formats.
