    MUMBAI:  In a move that has more twists than a Hindi cinema blockbuster, Sujith Kumar has swapped his role as head of brand partnerships at Swiggy SteppinOut for a senior manager position at BookMyShow, India’s entertainment ticketing titan. The career hop, announced this month, sees the marketing maestro taking his knack for turning consumers into brand evangelists to fresh pastures.

    Kumar’s track record reads like a greatest hits album of Indian entertainment marketing. At Swiggy SteppinOut, he orchestrated partnerships spanning food, music, comedy and lifestyle events, including the launch of “Supper Clubs of India”—intimate dining experiences showcasing regional cuisines that had Mumbai’s foodies queuing round the block.

    His previous stint at Paytm Insider proved particularly lucrative, where he built the brand partnerships team from scratch. The portfolio included managing Arijit Singh’s five-city tour and pioneering Van Heusen’s first metaverse concert—a digital-age spectacle that had traditionalists scratching their heads and millennials reaching for their wallets.

    The marketing maverick’s earlier adventures include a two-and-a-half-year spell at Sony Music Entertainment, where his mission statement “turn music fans into brand fans” became the stuff of industry legend. He juggled over 80 active brand strategies across south India, orchestrating collaborations with musical heavyweights including Badshah and Anirudh Ravichander.

    At ESPN, Kumar cut his teeth managing marketing for ESPNcricinfo during cricket’s golden television era, overseeing campaigns for the 2015 World Cup and IPL. His creation of CricIQ, billed as India’s largest cricket quiz platform, proved that sports and smartphones could be a winning combination long before fantasy leagues became the rage.

    Now at BookMyShow Live, Kumar faces the challenge of making brands feel rather than merely seen when “the lights dim and the fans roar.” Given his penchant for turning spectators into spenders, India’s entertainment industry may have found its most valuable player yet.

    The motorcycle enthusiast, who founded BrosonWheelsOfficial and treats riding as his “refresh button,” appears ready to take the brand partnerships game into top gear. For an industry where attention spans are shorter than TikTok videos, that could be music to corporate ears.

This move marks a pivotal moment in the evolving landscape of India’s digital entertainment and fintech sectors.

    Srinivasan, who co-founded Insider.in in 2014, played a crucial role in shaping India’s live entertainment ticketing industry. Under his leadership, the platform expanded its offerings to include a diverse range of events, from stand-up comedy shows to adventure treks, catering to a broad audience base. In 2017, Paytm acquired a majority stake in Insider.in, integrating it into its ecosystem and rebranding it as Paytm Insider.

    The recent acquisition of Paytm Insider by Zomato signifies the food delivery giant’s strategic entry into the live events and entertainment sector. This move aligns with Zomato’s broader vision to diversify its services and enhance user engagement beyond food delivery.

    Srinivasan’s departure raises questions about the future direction of Paytm’s product development and its strategy in the entertainment domain. His resignation follows a series of leadership changes within Paytm, including the exit of president and COO Bhavesh Gupta earlier this year.

    Mumbai: Punjab FC, the sole representative from North India in the Indian Super League (ISL), announced the addition of three brands to its commercial roster for the upcoming season. The club has signed Indian sportswear brand Shiv Naresh as the ‘Official Kit Partner,’ PayTM Insider as the ‘Official Ticketing Partner,’ and Radio City as the ‘Official Radio Partner.’ Punjab FC began its ISL campaign on 15 September against Kerala Blasters in Kochi and will play its first home game on 20 September in New Delhi.

    The official home, away, and third kits were launched earlier in Chandigarh and have already received positive feedback from fans and football enthusiasts.

    Punjab FC begins the 2024-25 season with a quarterfinal appearance in Asia’s oldest football tournament, the Durand Cup. In the group stages, the team defeats Mumbai City FC and CISF Protectors XI and draws with Kerala Blasters to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, they suffered a narrow defeat against Mohun Bagan Super Giant in a penalty shootout after the match ended 3-3 in regulation time.

    Peter Cat Recording Co announces “Good Luck Beta ‘24” tour

    Mumbai: Following a dramatic rise in the cult following of Peter Cat Recording Co, India’s ever-evolving genre-bending act is gearing up for one of the largest tours by an Indian band, as they announce 77 concerts with their third and latest album BETA. The band’s ‘Good Luck Beta’24’ run will kick off in August 2024, covering North America, Europe, UK and India. Paytm Insider, one of India’s leading entertainment experiences platforms, along with partners Pagal Haina & WMS Entertainment will bring the tour’s final leg to the country in December 2024.

    BETA from the band’s POV is “… a collection of stories about the future told 50 years in the past to make sense of the present, on our only home, planet Earth.” BETA’s origin story is quite heartwarming. They came up with five potential album titles, wrote them on pieces of paper, put them in a hat, and had the drummer Karan Singh’s six-month-old son pick one out. Serendipitously, BETA emerged.

    Peter Cat Recording Co has displayed a multitude of emotions, and sonic influences in their music. While psychedelic, jazz, alt-rock, and other genres were novel in the country, PCRC’s vision to establish a contrasting musical identity has been rooted since its inception, despite being in the nascent stage. You might find a sly homage to great acts, however, their music has always had an antecedent mark. The Delhi-formed band comprises Suryakant Sawhney on vocals and guitars, Karan Singh on drums, Dhruv Bhola on bass and samples, Rohit Gupta on keys and trumpet and Kartik Sundareshan on guitars and trumpet.

    After the globe-trotting legs of the tour, PCRC will return to the heartland for the last leg of the tour, performing in Pune on 14 December followed by Goa on December 15, 2024. Mumbai will experience PCRC’s electrifying performance on 20 December 2024, at JVPD Ground. On 22 December 2024, they will perform in Delhi NCR, the band’s birthplace, at DLF Cyber Hub in Gurugram. For the finale phase of the India tour, the band will deliver a memorable performance in Bengaluru’s Jayamahal Palace on December 28, 2024, and at Roots in Kolkata on December 29, 2024.
