NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 9 names Adam, Blake, Gwen & Pharrell as coaches

MUMBAI: Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams will be the season nine coaches and Carson Daly as host for NBC’s musical competition series The Voice.

The ninth season will begin in September.

“With such an astounding group of coaches at the peak of their musical ingenuity and Carson returning as our host, we are thrilled for what season nine will bring. The expertise and camaraderie of this panel will provide an immeasurable experience for the artists and must-see entertainment for all who are watching,” said NBC Entertainment president, alternative and late night programming Paul Telegdy.

Levine and Shelton have been Voice coaches since the series inception in 2011. Season nine will mark the third season for Williams and the second for Stefani.

“I can’t believe we’re already on the ninth season. Time after time, coming back, it honestly feels like the first day of school. It’s become a second family for me and I’m always so excited to come back to it,” Levine said.

Shelton added, “Adam, Gwen, Pharrell and I had a blast together in season 7 and I’m excited we’re back together again. They are all so talented but I’m pretty damn excited about another winning season for Team Blake.”

Stefani said, “I’m coming back and am so excited! I can’t believe I get to return to ‘The Voice.’ It’s so inspiring to be around such incredible talent and music. I’m looking forward to working again with Adam, Blake and Pharrell. I love those guys.”

“I am grateful to have a role on the show among such an incredible group of great people and am looking forward to another season of talented artists,” Williams said.

Daly said, “For eight seasons The Voice has enlisted world-renowned coaches, amassed the most talented singers ever on TV and we are just warming up! Season nine will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible when you have a dream. I’m so honored to continue to be front and center of this consistently exhilarating show.”

  • NBC show will send someone into space

NBC show will send someone into space

MUMBAI: The network has announced that it is teaming with Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic and veteran TV producer Mark Burnett on ‘Space Race’, a competition where the winner gets a ride on the space liner that is expected to begin commercial flights sometime next year.

“The term  trip of a lifetime’ has for once been delivered on,” said NBC’s president of alternative and late-night programming Paul Telegdy. “This will be a remarkable experience for anyone who has looked at the night’s sky and dared to dream of space flight.”

Virgin has been testing its rocket-powered space vehicle this year, with pilots reaching a height of 69,000 feet on a 5 Sept flight that landed in the Mojave Desert near Virgin Galactic’s facility there. Virgin has said the goal is to begin commercial flights next year, with Branson and his family taking the first ride.

Virgin has already collected $80 million in deposits from 640 people interested in experiencing the weightlessness of space.

A TV show could be great publicity for Branson’s company. Competitors, such as billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk’s SpaceX, are also working to make commercial spaceflight a reality.

Burnett, the producer behind ‘The Voice’ and ‘Survivor’, said he has wanted for 10 years to make a show with the goal of letting an average person experience looking down on Earth from the black sky of space.

However, NBC offered no estimate on when ‘Space Race’ would air.

  • BBC Worldwide restructures in US for growth

MUMBAI: Five months into the job, BBC Worldwide America president Garth Ancier has restructured his senior team to take BBC Worldwide’s American-based businesses to the next level.

He says, “By creating new roles, bringing in some fresh faces and promoting talent within the organisation I am positioning the company for growth. The BBC produces more quality television content than any other company and is one of the premier media brands in the world. We now have a strong team working together to expand that brand across the US, focussing on growth areas including channels, content and production and digital.”

In the newly-created role, BBC executive VP, business development and digital media, Luke Bradley-Jones transfers to the company’s New York headquarters, starting 1 September.
