CASBAA India Forum 2015: New Era, New Opportunities

Mumbai: CASBAA’s annual stop in the South Asian sub-continent will bring together a host of local and international speakers at the India Forum 2015 on Monday, March 23 at Shangri-La’s Eros Hotel in New Delhi.

“Reflecting India’s continued importance and influence in the Asia Pacific region, CASBAA’s annual overview of this vibrant broadcasting market attracts the very best speakers from within the country and around the world,” said CASBAA CEO Christopher Slaughter.  “As the television industry continues to evolve not only in India but across the globe, it truly feels as if we have entered into a new era of broadcasting and this forum is dedicated to the exploration of the vast opportunities now available to industry stakeholders.”

“New Era, New Opportunities,” this year’s theme for the CASBAA India Forum 2015, captures the essence of television in the country. Spurred by the plan to digitize the cable television sector, the Indian TV industry has been invigorated with the promise of increased transparency, pay revenues and access to content.

However, after the first two phases of digitisation, digital rollout seems to have plateaued. Has over-regulation taken the sheen off digitisation or are there other activities taking place that are not plainly evident? And, are stakeholders finally ready to iron out their differences for the greater common good?

CASBAA has assembled a diverse roster of expert speakers to debate this issue along with a variety of other important topics paving the way for India’s continued growth such as audience measurement, media regulations, advertising, new technology, satellite spectrum and much more.

Among the industry experts expected to attend this year are Raghav Bahl (MD, Quintillion Media), Paul Brown-Kenyon (CEO, MEASAT), Prashant Butani (Senior Analyst, NSR), Nicholas Daly (MD, Eutelsat), Partho Dasgupta (CEO, BARC), Tony D’silva (CEO & MD, Media, Hinduja Group), Vynsley Fernandes (CEO, Castle Media), Smita Jha (Leader, Entertainment and Media, PwC India), Rajiv Khattar (President – South Asia, ABS), L.V. Krishnan (CEO, TAM Media Research (India)), Deepak Mathur (SVP Commercial, Asia-Pacific and Middle East, SES), Harit Nagpal (CEO & MD, Tata Sky), Sushruta Samanta (Business Head, Asia Pacific, International Business, Zee Entertainment), Adil Zainulbhai (Chairman, Nerwork18 & Board Member, RIL) and many others. This year, corporate partners for the CASBAA India Forum 2015 include Supporting Sponsor SES and Sponsors Eutelsat, MEASAT and TMT Law Practice.

  • MEASAT-3b launch delayed

    MEASAT-3b launch delayed

MUMBAI: The much awaited MEASAT-3b launch has been delayed. While the satellite was set for launch on 6 June (7 June Kuala Lumpur time), it has now been postponed after the manufacturer of the MEASAT-3b co-passenger requested time for repairs to their satellite.

“We are clearly disappointed with the delay and are currently in co-ordination with Arianespace (the launch service provider) on the rescheduling of the launch,” said MEASAT Satellite Systems CEO Paul Brown-Kenyon through a press statement. “We will provide an update when we receive further information on the revised launch date,” he continued.

MEASAT-3b is designed to provide an additional 48 high powered Ku-band transponders to the 91.5°E orbital slot to expand Direct-To-Home and VSAT services across Malaysia, India, Indonesia and Australia. Co-located with MEASAT-3 and MEASAT-3a, the satellite will more than double MEASAT’s Ku-band capacity at 91.5°E creating one of the region’s most powerful and robust orbital locations.

The delay in the launch of the satellite will further delay DTH operator Sun Direct’s plans of adding more high definition and standard definition channels. With the launch of MEASAT-3b, Sun Direct is set to add nine more transponders to its existing four transponders.

    Measat-3 enters commercial service

MUMBAI: Measat Satellite Systems has announced that Measat-3 has successfully completed in orbit testing and had entered commercial service.

At a ceremony held Thursday at the Measat Teleport and Broadcast Centre, located just outside Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the satellite was officially handed over by Boeing Satellite Systems International Inc and the first customer, Radio Television Malaysia One (RTM-1), up-linked onto the satellite.

“Thanks to the hard efforts of the Boeing and Measat teams, the deployment and extensive in orbit testing of the Measat-3 satellite has been completed ahead of schedule with the satellite now ready for commercial use” said Paul Brown-Kenyon, Chief Operating Officer, Measat. “We are focused on managing the migration of our lead DTH, Broadcasting and Telecom customers onto the new platform as they expand their services”.

Designed to work co-located with Measat-1, the deployment of Measat-3 at the 91.5°E orbital location will boosts Measat satellite capacity at its key orbital location by some 300 per cent. The satellite will also extend the network reach to over 100 countries across Asia, Australia, The Middle East, Eastern Africa and Eastern Europe representing 70 per cent of the world’s population.
