    Dishum Broadcasting appoints Partha Dey as COO

    MUMBAI: Dishum Broadcasting has appointed Partha Dey as the chief operating officer (COO), reporting to the board of directors. His new portfolio would include overseeing and managing broadcasting operations including programming, OAP, consumer research and branded content. 

    Dishum broadcasting director Vishal Gurnani said, “Partha’s knowledge and vast experience in launching successful Bhojpuri media brands is unparalleled in the industry, and we look forward to Partha helping us achieve our vision of bringing in a new era of content and entertainment experiences to Bhojpuri audiences across the world.”

    Dey said, “With Bhojpuri becoming one of the fastest growing languages in India, my effort at Dishum will be to deliver an enthralling viewing experience to this humongous audience base through platform-agnostic original rooted programming through local insights. At Dishum Broadcasting, the programming will be directed towards creating big-ticket properties and branded storytelling shows rather than heavily relying on movies and music to make up the numbers.”

    Prior to the role, Dey had two years stint as an SVP with Reliance Broadcasting Network Limited (RBNL’s) Bhojpuri GEC- Big Ganga.

    A documentary filmmaker by profession, Dey has over 20 years of experience in broadcasting media as a producer, director and creative director. He has helped launch successful Bhojpuri brands including Mahuaa, Dangal, Bhojpuri Cinema, and Big Ganga. He has also produced and directed several documentaries, features and programming software for various companies such as the Indian Air force, ARC RAW, OHM- Holland and Doordarshan

    Big Magic Ganga readies Navratri special programming

    MUMBAI: The regional entertainment channel of Bihar, Jharkhand and Purvanchal, Big Magic Ganga is planning to launch five new shows for its Navratri special series over nine days under Jholaa Jhuleli Maiyaa.

     

    Starting from second week of October, Jholaa Jhuleli Maiyaa will include a special programming line-up dedicated to Goddess Durga comprising shows such as Ganga Jagran, Ram Charan Sukhdai, Bhakti Sagar, Jai Durga Maaiya and Family Talkies – Shakti special. 

     

    The show Ganga Jagran is a stage based devotional musical event with a combination of devotion and entertainment. The show will be led by singer and actor Pawan Singh, clubbed with various known artists from the region. Ganga Jagran will air on 17 October, with a repeat telecast on 18 October for duration of three hours.

                                                 

    Ram Charan Sukhdai is a devotional music series associated with spirituality along with bhakti songs. Singer Malini Awasthi will anchor the show and recite famous phrases from various holy books and will explain them in simpler terms to the audience. This half hour show will be aired from Monday – Friday at 9 am. 

     

    The 90 minute devotional show Bhakti Sagar will air at 7.30 am and pay tribute to nine goddesses in the form of bhajans. Ensuring a special dose of family entertainment, the channel will be introducing Family Talkies – Shakti special (Nau din Nau Flimyein). The special segment will showcase movies for nine days based on women empowerment.

    Big Magic Ganga ups ante for Bihar elections with special shows

    MUMBAI: It’s that time of the year again when news channels are gearing up with special shows for the upcoming Bihar elections. This time round,  the regional general entertainment channel (GEC) of Bihar – Big Magic Ganga has also upped its ante and prepped three new election special shows. The shows are titled: Raag Chunavi, Comedy Tabadtod and Baasi Khabar with Aarya Babbar.

    The first show, Raag Chunavi starting from 10 October, will be aired on Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 pm. It’s a musical show on political and social satire where two teams will be pitted against each other – one will represent the Aam Adami and other will represent politicians. The show will take a bold view with its wit and sarcasm on various issues and will have Bhojpuri folk singers participating.

    The comedy non-fiction show Comedy Tabadtod, starting from the first week of October, is a weekday series that comprises hilarious situational, topical gags, and skits. The segments on the show cover pranks, funny scenes from Bhojpuri movies and artists doing gags on different issues like socio political, mimicry, movie characters and many more.

    The third show Baasi Khabar with Aarya Babbar starting from 24 October will be aired on weekends in the 7:30 pm slot. The news spoof TV show will see quintessential characters with different and opposing backgrounds come together and discuss about week old Big News. Babar, who anchors the show, will try seeing and analysing the current social and political developments in a funny and satirical manner. The show will have recurring set of actors with a sense of humor and great comic timing. In addition, the show will also have field reporters from the epicentre of each news item, reporting incidents in a quirky manner.

    Speaking to Indiantelevision.com, Big Magic Ganga TV programming senior vice president Partha Dey, said, “At Big Magic, we try to come up with something new every time. One of Big Magic Ganga’s specialties is to do a spike on the channel during festivals or even elections. Our aim was to come up with something different and entertaining at the same time for the elections. As the assembly elections start from 12 October, we are ready to launch our three new shows.”

    Speaking about the show with Babbar as anchor, he said, “Since we are not a news channel, we can’t do a news show. However, we wanted to do something elections so we came up with the concept of Baasi Khabar with Arya Babbar. The show will start with the election season and will continue till March 2016. On the other hand, the other two shows will go off air after elections.”

    Further Dey added, “We were keen to introduce a satirical TV show and Baasi Khabar With Aarya Babbar is a step in that direction. We are also planning to come up with another season in August 2016. Babbar is good with mimicry and comedy.”

    The channel has already shot the promos for the show and will start shooting for the show from the first week of October.

    Highlighting the marketing activities of the channel, Dey said, “We are trying to cover all the platforms. It would be available on our platform on air and also on our radio channel. We are also planning to run a contest.”

    The channel’s agency Grey Worldwide will conceptualise the ad campaigns.  

    Dey also informed that Big Magic Ganga was also planning to launch four new shows during Navratari.

    Big Magic Ganga preps for 4th season of ‘Rasoi Ki Rani’

    MUMBAI: Big Magic Ganga, the regional channel from the Reliance Broadcast Network Limited (RBNL) stable, is coming up with the fourth season of its show Rasoi Ki Rani – Jeetein Sitaron Ka Dil.

     

    The show is a search for the greatest chef at home who can deliver an experience of the most authentic regional cuisine for celebrity guests. Ripudaman Handa, winner of MasterChef – Kitchen Ke Superstar will host the show, which will also include celebrity walk-in guests.

     

    An extensive 90 day audition phase will be held to select the best candidates. Women from 16 cities of UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and New Delhi will participate in this reality show. The show consists of three rounds – Interactive Game, Masala Muqabla and Jaika E Bahar. A total of 18 women will be chosen as part of the audition process, out of which four will reach the grand finale.

    Big Magic Ganga kicks-off ‘Big Memsaab’ with extensive marketing

    NEW DELHI: The reality show Big Memsaab, aimed at exploring the hidden talent of women in Bihar and Jharkhand, has commenced its sixth season on Big Magic Ganga with extensive marketing.

     

    The show is telecast every weekend from 8 – 9 pm. Apart from 92.7 Big FM and Big Magic, the activity will be promoted across through on-ground activation, OOH, print, digital and cinema. Brands that have associated with Big Memsaab season 6 are Xpert, Horlicks, Parle Top Spin, Mohini Tea, Catch Salt and Spices, Dabur, Senco, Vasmol and 92.7 Big FM, amongst others.

     

    The show has celebrities Madhu Sharma and Rashmi Desai as judges, whereas Vinay Anand is the host.

     

    The trio were part of a gala opening ceremony in Noida, where the sixth season is currently being shot for Big Magic Ganga.

    Auditions for Big Memsaab season 6 saw the highest turnout in the region. They were held in 12 key markets, which started in Kolkata and followed with Kanpur, Allahabad, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Varanasi, Dhanbad, Gorakhpur, Bhagalpur, Patna, Muzzafarpur and Darbhanga. Following the auditions, 35 contestants were shortlisted for the finals, who will now compete for the title of Big Memsaab season 6.

    MUMBAI: Reliance Broadcast has made a new appointment to enhance its programming content on two of its channels- Big Magic and Big Magic Bihar & Jharkhand. Partha Dey will spearhead the national channel’s non-fiction programming content as the non-fiction head and also the entire programming portfolio for its regional channel as the creative and programming head.

     

    He will be involved in driving the regional channel’s performance by building on consumer insight for developing strong content.

     

    Dey will report to Reliance Broadcast TV business COO Lavneesh Gupta. Prior to this, he was heading the creatives and operation for the Mahuaa Network for six years including the planning, designing and launch of its three channels Pragya, Mahuaa and Mahuaa Bangla. He is a documentary filmmaker and has produced and directed documentaries, features and programming software for various agencies such as the Indian Air Force, ARC RAW and OHM-Holland and Doordarshan. 

     

    Commenting on his appointment, Gupta said “Partha’s vast experience and in-depth market understanding makes him an asset to the organisation. We are happy to have him on board and are confident of him leading Big Magic Bihar & Jharkhand through its next growth phase.”

     

    On his appointment Dey said, “Big Magic is among India’s most vibrantly growing brands, which has displaced long standing players in a very short period of time especially in the regional markets.
