  • WPP OpenDoor brews a digital storm with Panchayat’s Butkun ki Dukaan on Instamart

WPP OpenDoor brews a digital storm with Panchayat’s Butkun ki Dukaan on Instamart

MUMBAI: What do you get when you mix a cult web series, a fictional tea shop, and 35 million snack-loving shoppers? A digital innovation that hits right in the feels—and taste buds.

Prime Video’s Panchayat is back with Season 4, and WPP OpenDoor has pulled off a stunt that’s as grounded as Phulera and as disruptive as Kranti Devi’s election agenda. In a first-of-its-kind move, Butkun ki Dukaan—the iconic pitstop for chai, samosas, and village gossip—has been brought to life as a shoppable digital experience on Swiggy Instamart.

From 26 June to 3 July, between 4 PM and 7 PM, Instamart users across India have been greeted with a curated snack corner inspired by the show’s desi flavour. Think local favourites, cheeky flyers teasing the Manju vs Kranti election drama, and an app interface that transports you straight into the dusty lanes of Phulera.

With Panchayat holding strong in IMDb’s Global Top 250 and India’s Top 50 Most Popular Web Series, WPP OpenDoor’s campaign cleverly extends the IP beyond the screen—into homes, phones, and tiffin boxes.

  • Lauki meets cooker in Panchayat’s spicy Season 4 campaign blitz

Lauki meets cooker in Panchayat’s spicy Season 4 campaign blitz

MUMBAI: What do you get when lauki meets pressure cooker? A full-blown election dhamaka, of course. But this time, the cooker isn’t in the kitchen, it’s on billboards, in street installations, and it’s whistling louder than Phulera’s political tempers. Ahead of Panchayat Season 4’s release on June 24, Prime Video is turning up the heat with a brilliantly desi OOH campaign across cities. At Patna’s Marine Drive, Indore’s Chappan Dukan, and Lucknow’s buzzing 1090 Chauraha, unsuspecting passersby were met with massive laukis being squashed by equally massive pressure cookers or vice versa. The lauki isn’t going down without a fight.

The high-decibel marketing complete with hoardings that blow a real seeti every few hours plays up the season’s central conflict: Kranti Devi vs. the OG Pradhan. The quirky slogan game is also strong: Banrakas ka Vaar, Ya Pradhan ka Prahaar? and Kaun Hogi Phulera Ki Queen? echo across installations, channeling every bit of small-town poll drama with spicy flair.

It’s political theatre with a legume twist, reflecting the heartland chaos Panchayat fans love. If lauki symbolises old-school values and calm, the cooker is all pressure and power play and Phulera’s streets are the new battleground.

Returning with its signature warmth and satire, the series stars Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Faisal Malik and more. Created by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Chandan Kumar, the show is ready to serve a fourth helping of heartfelt hilarity. And if the campaign is any hint, this season’s narrative will be just as cooked, crisp, and chaotic.

So mark the date, because Panchayat isn’t just streaming, it’s steaming.

  • Panchayat fans elect early release, season 4 now drops on 24 June

Panchayat fans elect early release, season 4 now drops on 24 June

MUMBAI: Panchayat fans have spoken, and Prime Video has listened. The wildly popular rural dramedy is returning sooner than expected — with season 4 now set to stream from 24 June, pulling ahead from its earlier 2 July release date.

What caused the shift? A quirky, tongue-in-cheek referendum-style campaign where cast members made mock “election promises” to release the show early — but only if fans cast their votes (read: likes, shares, hashtags).

The social media blitz went viral, with the hashtag #PanchayatNow trending and a brigade of brands jumping into the fray with punny pleas and snackable slogans.

From AJIO and Pepperfry to McCain, Taco Bell, Ixigo, and True Elements, everyone threw their hat into the digital ring. The campaign — crafted by The Zoya Co. — merged humour, nostalgia, and cultural relevance, turning brand posts into fan love letters.

Speaking on this campaign, McCain India retail – digital lead, Sumati Kapur said, “Panchayat is more than just a show, it’s a reflection of the everyday Indian family dynamic, rooted in culture, community, and shared experiences. At McCain, we saw a natural synergy in collaborating with a show that every household relates to. Our hot and crispy snacks are a staple in family conversations, chai breaks, and everything in between just like the moments Panchayat so effortlessly captures. This partnership allowed us to create meaningful noise by placing McCain at the heart of relatable, real storytelling that resonates across generations.”

The fan-first push is not just a win for early binge-watchers — it reflects Panchayat’s cult status. The series has struck a chord with audiences for its grounded humour and affectionate portrayal of small-town India.

With season 4 promising a fiery face-off between Pradhanji and Bhushanji, and the usual dose of satire, soul, and sideways glances, the early drop is just the trailer to a bigger, better panchayat.

Bring on the ballots — and the binge.

  • Billboards Behaving Badly as Prime Twists Fan Favourites for The Traitors

Billboards Behaving Badly as Prime Twists Fan Favourites for The Traitors

MUMBAI: If you’ve done a double take at a Mirzapur quote on a billboard lately, you’re not alone. Across Indian cities, something strange is afoot famous lines from hit Prime Video shows like Paatal Lok, Farzi, Panchayat, and The Boys are popping up on massive hoardings… but with a twist.

What at first glance feels like a nostalgic nod to your binge-watch favourites quickly unravels into something more sinister. The quotes look right, but they aren’t quite right and that subtle off-ness is precisely the point. This isn’t just a trip down memory lane. It’s a breadcrumb trail. And the destination? Deception.

Welcome to the world of The Traitors.

Set to launch soon on Prime Video, The Traitors is the Indian adaptation of the globally acclaimed reality format where trust is fragile, alliances are fleeting, and betrayal is always just around the corner. With a gameplay that rewards strategy, subterfuge and social smarts, The Traitors is poised to flip the reality TV genre on its head.

The billboard campaign is the first move in this psychological chess match. Disruptive, cheeky, and slightly unsettling, it plants a single thought in viewers’ minds: can you trust what you see?

In a climate of reboots and reunions, this fresh format brings something more intriguing to the table unpredictability. And as the quotes from familiar shows start to behave badly, it’s clear the game has already begun.

Keep your eyes peeled. The signs are everywhere. The Traitors is coming soon only on Prime Video. But in this game, nothing is what it seems.

  • Rs 37-bn panchayat wifi plan by Mar ’19, IMG to meet today

Rs 37-bn panchayat wifi plan by Mar ’19, IMG to meet today

MUMBAI: The central government is drafting an ambitious Rs 37-billion plan so as to cover around 5.5 lakh villages with wifi facility for all panchayats by March 2019, a senior Department of Telecom official has said. Also, data shared by the telecom minister Manoj Sinha showed that internet service has started in 33,430 gram panchayats as of 6 September.

The inter-ministerial panel (IMG) of the Telecom Commission is scheduled to meet on Friday to consider phase-2 of BharatNet project under which 1.5 lakh GPs are to be covered with high speed broadband network.

This month, the government expected to put out a tender for 2.5 lakh GPs (gram panchayats) to be covered so that 5.5 lakh villages would have had access to mobile broadband, the telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan said, PTI reported.

The government expects to start broadband services with about 1,000 megabit per second (1 gbps) across 1 lakh gram panchayats by 2017-end.

Earlier, the plan was to provide 100 megabit per second connectivity to village panchayats, but, under the new BharatNet, the broadband speed has been enhanced 10 times to one gigabit per second at every panchayat level.

One lakh wifi will used under BharatNet service. The other 1.5 lakh need not be on BharatNet from Day 1. Once BharatNet was completed, the government planned to integrate all wifi backward with BharatNet, Sundararajan said.

At download speed of 1 gbps, an user can theoretically download a video equivalent to the size of a general Bollywood movie in about 2 seconds.

Under the new policy, the government will focus on linking some 40,000 villages and increase availability of regular Internet access facility to 70 crore people, from 30 crore, by 2022.

The secretary pointed out the pace of implementing BharatNet had accelerated by seven times in the last one month. Earlier, 150 installations a day were being done.

As of July 2017, 2,21,925 kilometres of optical fibre cable (OFC), covering 1,00,299 gram panchayats, were laid and 25,426 GPs provided with broadband connectivity.

The government, Sundararajan said, has already completed optical fibre rollout in one lakh GPs and is installing electronic equipment for commissioning of broadband services.

The department has crossed 61,000 GPs where electronic (equipment) have been installed. In the next 2-3 months, it will complete the installation as well as integration to the network. The network for one lakh GPs will be functional before the end of this year.
