    Dentsu Creative names John Mescall global chief creative partner

    MUMBAI: Dentsu Creative has appointed John Mescall as its global chief creative partner, a move designed to sharpen the agency’s creative edge and align standards across markets.

    Based in New York, Mescall will work closely with Yasu Sasaki, Dentsu’s global chief creative officer, to strengthen creative craft, foster collaboration and integrate emerging technologies like AI into workflows. He will also focus on talent development across the network.

    “What drew me to Dentsu Creative is its deep belief in the power of creativity to drive meaningful impact,” said Mescall. “It’s rare to find a global organisation so aligned in purpose yet so attuned to the strengths of its local teams.”

    Mescall is one of advertising’s most decorated creative leaders. At Mccann Worldgroup, where he served as global executive creative director and president of its global creative council, he helped steer the network to Cannes Lions and Effie global network of the year titles. His career haul includes more than 100 Cannes Lions, eight of them Grand Prix, along with top honours at D&AD, One Show, Clio and beyond. Adweek has named him to its creativity 50, while Business Insider ranked him among the world’s top 10 most creative people in advertising.

    Dentsu Creative, global president, Abbey Klaassen said Mescall’s “ability to unite teams around a shared vision” will be key to scaling the agency’s creative impact. Sasaki added that his appointment reflects the network’s “commitment to transformative creativity that delivers cultural and business impact.”

    GOA: Mumbai’s glittering advertising elite gathered for the Abby creative awards 2025, powered by One Show, and what a bash it was! The night saw agencies duking it out for supremacy, with some truly enormous wins and a few surprises.

    Enormous clinched the coveted creative agency of the year title, proving their creative muscle is, well, gargantuan. ItFCB  bagged a whopping 67 metals, including 6 gold, 17 silver, 24 bronze, and 20 merits, accumulating a grand total of 286 points. Leo India, not far behind, stacked up 51 metals for a respectable 196 points, while VML India, with a Grand Prix under its belt, tallied 78 points. Clearly, size does matter when it comes to creative firepower.

    In the specialist categories, Leo India showed its strategic genius, being crowned the brand activation & promotions specialist agency of the year with 30 points and also dominating as the health specialist agency of the year, amassing 40 points. Talk about being a well-oiled machine!

    FCB India wasn’t to be outdone, nabbing the branded content & entertainment specialist agency of the year with 30 points. It seems their content is so good, it’s almost too branded. And when it came to the visual feast, Good Morning Films was hailed as the video craft specialist of the year, scoring a dazzling 84 points. Their work, one might say, was simply picture-perfect.

    Individual campaigns that got chatter going  included Famous Innovations’ The Anatomy of Suffering for Henlo Pet Nutrition, which snared a Grand Prix in Still Print – Still Craft – Art Direction. Pet lovers, prepare to be paws-itively moved. In the Audio-Visual category, Enormous bagged two golds for Wok Tok By Veeba’s “Chinese, par apne style se” and Lahori Jeera’s “Har Koi Peera Lahori Zeera“—proving that when it comes to food, Enormous really knows how to cook up a storm.

    Meanwhile, Neeman’s Are Those Neeman’s Shoes Phone Hack campaign by VML India caused quite the stir, landing a Grand Prix for Audio – Voice-Activation. One might even say it spoke volumes! Famous Innovations also scooped up a Grand Prix for The Anatomy of Suffering for Henlo Pet Nutrition in Out of Home (Ambient Media), showing that their suffering has truly paid off.

    From Durex India’s Teaching India to get it wrong by FCB India to MyMuse’s Designed to Find the Right Spot by Famous Innovations, the awards celebrated campaigns that were both bold and brilliant, leaving no creative stone unturned.

     The Abbys once again showcased that in the mad world of advertising, a bit of cheeky creativity and strategic nous are always a winning combination.

    MUMBAI: The AdClub has revealed the Round 1 shortlist for the Abby Awards 2025, powered by One Show, with industry heavyweights Leo Burnett, Enormous Brands, FCB, VML, McCann, Famous Innovations, and Havas leading the charge in the creative categories.

    A star-studded lineup of creative powerhouses and brands has made the cut, including Good Morning Films, Tribes Communications, Atom Network, Cheil, Schbang, Mudra Max, Y&H, Grey Group, Hogarth Studios, Vanilla Films, Mindshare, BBH, and Tilt Brand Solutions.

     The client roster shines just as bright, with AIS, Jaguar, P&G Whisper, Manifest, The Times of India, Axis Bank, Coca-Cola, Finolex, Reliance General Insurance, Durex, Flipkart, Lays, and Dream11 all vying for glory.

    Digital dynamos like Schbang, BC Web Wise, Digitas, and Interactive Avenues have carved out their space, while design virtuosos Open Design, Hyphen Brands, and Tree Design have made their mark. 

    Video craft maestros—Good Morning Films, Vanilla Films, Bang Bang, Kitchen Video, and Superfly Films—add a cinematic edge to the shortlist.

    The broadcast and publishing giants aren’t left behind, with Bennett Coleman, ABP, Jagran Prakashan, Viacom, Star India, The Hindu Group, and Zee Entertainment staking their claim for the trophy. 

    Start-up agencies like Y&H, tgthr, Brave, and Believe Trinity have also entered the spotlight, proving that fresh talent can compete with the best.

    Awards governing council chairman Ajay Kakar expressed his delight: “The shortlist for the Abby Awards 2025—across both creative and media categories—is now out. It’s heartening to see the breadth and diversity of agencies, clients, brands, publishers, and broadcasters who have made it through the first round of rigorous jury evaluation.     MUMBAI: The Ad Club has revealed the first set of jury chairs for The Abby Awards 2025 powered by One Show, ahead of the grand showcase at Goafest 2025, taking place on 21–23 May at Taj Cidade de Goa Heritage and Horizon.

    Stepping into key jury roles this year are four of the most dynamic minds in Indian advertising: Rajdeepak Das, Senthil Kumar, Chandni Shah, and Anupama Ramaswamy.

    Das to chair video film (under one minute) category

    Publicis Groupe south Asia and Leo Burnett south Asia chief creative officer & chairman, Das is known for redefining creativity with a human-first lens. His award-winning campaigns from Whisper’s ‘The Missing Chapter’ (Grand Prix, SDG – Cannes Lions 2022) to Pepsico Lays Smart Farms (Grand Prix, Spikes Asia 2024) underline his commitment to impactful innovation. At Leo Burnett, he launched Apollo 11, a futuristic division powered by mutant creatives including aerospace engineers and data scientists.

    Kumar to chair video film (over one minute) category

    VML India chief creative officer, dubbed a ‘Lion Hunter’ by The Economic Times, Kumar is one of the most decorated creative minds in the country. With 27 Cannes Lions, 24 D&AD Pencils, and numerous other global honours, his vision has fuelled campaigns for brands like Wipro, Hero Motors, Tata Steel, and The Times of India. His storytelling extends to award-winning short films and documentaries, including A Salaam To Kalam and Save Our Sentinels.

    Shah to chair mobile category

    FCB Kinnect founder & COO, from child model to digital powerhouse, Shah has consistently broken moulds. At 32, she co-founded one of India’s most impactful digital agencies with over 600 Kinnectors. She’s been honoured by Campaign Asia-Pacific, Impact’s 50 Most Influential Women, and Agency Reporter’s SHE Awards.     Mumbai: Created for and by the marketing, advertising and media industry, the Abby Awards 2024 powered by One Show continues to set new benchmarks. From agencies and clients, from digital and media companies to specialist companies, the awards have witnessed a record-breaking increase in participation over the past three years. This year, the awards have attracted a staggering 3,506 entries from 273 companies, for the Creative and Media ABBY. Noteworthy among the returning participants are agencies such as VML, Lowe Lintas, McCann Worldgroup India, DDB Mudra, Famous Innovations, among others, underscoring the industry’s confidence in the Abby Awards.

    A significant highlight of the 2024 edition, the introduction of three new age categories – Digital, Mobile, and Technology, has collectively garnered 626 entries from 75 companies. Additionally, responding to industry demands, the inclusion of the health category and new sub-categories in trending subjects like AI, Virtual Reality, and Sustainable Practices has further demonstrated the awards’ commitment to staying abreast of industry trends and demands.

    The judging process, a cornerstone of the Abby Awards 2024 powered by One Show’s integrity, was adjudged by an esteemed panel of 23 Jury Chairs and 204 jurors across 23 categories. Notably, the representation of women in the jury has seen a steady increase, with 68 female judges contributing to a ratio of 33:67. Furthermore, out of the 23 Jury Chairs, 9 were women, reflecting a ratio of 40:60, thus ensuring a balanced and inclusive evaluation process. Reinforcing the jury’s relevance and contemporary outlook, 53 new, young, award-winning judges were introduced to the process, making an impressive 26% of jury, this year.

    A testament to its credibility, the Abby Awards 2024 powered by One Show employs a rigorous judging process, combining the renowned One Show system of shortlist and award rating with independent verification by KPMG. This dual-layered approach not only upholds the integrity of the awards but also enhances the stature of winners, many of whom go on to achieve success at prestigious festivals like Cannes and One Show.

    Beyond digital, creative and media companies, the awards serve as a performance benchmark for specialist companies including content companies, broadcasters, publishers, PR companies, Video Craft companies, Design companies, NGOs, and branded content companies.

    Mumbai: Gearing up to present three days of learnings, discussions, and deliberations while celebrating creative excellence, Goafest 2024 presents a stellar line-up of speakers for its 17 edition. With sessions that discuss various facets of the festival’s theme ‘The Age of Adaptability’, Goafest 2024 promises to unpack and deliver practical learnings through topics that are of significant relevance through keynotes, discussions, masterclasses and more.

    Mumbai: Medulla managing director and founder Praful Akali and Enormous, founder and chief creative officer Ashish Khazanchi join as jury chairs for Health category and Still Print category respectively, at The Abby Awards 2024 powered by One Show.

    Medulla managing director and founder Praful Akali has been appointed Jury Chair of Abby Awards 2024 powered by One Show in the newly created Health category.

    Praful is among the most awarded healthcare creative professionals globally since 2015. He has had close to 50 shortlists and over 20 awards including a Grand Prix at the leading global awards Lions Health, Clio, Global, London Festival, and Spikes.

    As one of the few creatively renowned professionals that has also worked as a client, last at Pfizer, Praful demonstrates how creativity and effectiveness work together.

    In 2016, the Last Words campaign was published in the Gunn Report as one of the only 15 campaigns globally that won gold at the Lions and a marketing effectiveness awards show like the Effies. In 2017, Medulla repeated the feat with Last Laugh work which won a Grand Prix at Clio and two Gold at the APAC Effies.

    Praful has led Medulla to win the Healthcare Agency of the Year in 2016 at Cannes Lions. Medulla has been the only agency globally to feature in the top three agencies of the year, each of the first three years of Lions Health. Medulla is also the only healthcare specialist agency in the list of the World’s Leading Independent Agencies 2018.

    Praful has served as a jury member at Cannes Lions, LIA, Clio, Effies and the Global Awards. He has been a speaker at Cannes and other forums and his opinion pieces have appeared in several advertising and business publications.

    In 2018, he spoke on the motto of Lion’s Health, life-changing creativity on the Lions Health Inspiration stage.

    Enormous founder and chief creative officer Ashish Khazanchi has been appointed Jury Chair of Abby Awards 2024 powered by One Show in the Still Print category.

    Ashish has worked in most of the major agency networks and on some of the biggest global, and Indian brands. He has taken Enormous from a startup to one of the leading independent creative agencies in the country. Ashish led Enormous to become the first independent agency to win a Grand Effie in the country this year.

    Prior to this, Ashish was the National Creative Director, at Publicis Ambience. An MBA graduate from IIM Bangalore with over 30 years in advertising, he has created the iconic Jingalala campaign for Tata Sky and many others.

    He has won over 300 awards with many international ones like the One Show, D&AD, Spikes and Cannes.

    Ashish has held leadership roles in agencies like Y&R, Ogilvy, McCann and Publicis.

    PG Aditiya is the creator of India’s most awarded campaign ever: The Unfiltered History Tour, an undercover tour of the British Museum’s disputed artefacts – for VICE.

    Talented is an employee-owned creative agency founded by PG Aditya prior to which he was the CCO of Dentsu Webchutney until February 2022.  His work is responsible for India’s only “Agency of the Year” title so far at Cannes Lions.

    Mumbai: Pallavi Chakravarti, founder and CCO of Fundamental, Raj Kamble, founder & CCO of Famous Innovations and Mayuri Nikumbh, head of design at Conran Design, join as jury chair for Diversity, Equality and Inclusion category, Out of Home and Ambient category, and Design Category respectively, at The Abby Awards 2024 powered by One Show.

    Pallavi Chakravarti, founder and CCO of Fundamental has been appointed jury chair of Abby Awards 2024 powered by One Show in the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion category.  

    In the creative business for two decades now, Pallavi became independent in 2023. Her agency Fundamental has created work for Airtel, Adidas, WhatsApp, Facebook, Parle Products, Marico and more, all in under a year. In her previous stints across Saatchi, Grey, JWT, Taproot Dentsu and DDB Mudra, she has worked on Instagram, McDonald’s, Pepsi, Uber, J&J, Unilever, P&G and local giants like Times of India, ITC and Star Sports.

    Pallavi featured among the 200 most-awarded ECDs in 2021 in The Drum World Creative Rankings and closer home, in the 2022 edition of Wonder Women 100 by Indian Television Dot Com, a list celebrating leaders in creative arts.

    From shows like Cannes Lions, D&AD, The One Show, Adfest Asia Pacific, Spikes Asia, Kyoorius and The Abbys to effectiveness awards like Effies and Appies, her work has been recognised everywhere.     Raj Kamble, Founder & CCO of Famous Innovations has been appointed Jury Chair of Abby Awards 2024 powered by One Show in the Out of Home and Ambient category.

    Raj Kamble is a gold medallist in design and art from Sir JJ School of Arts. His 25-year career has taken him from Lowe India to Lowe London, Lowe New York, BBDO New York and back to Mumbai as Managing Partner, BBH India. During this time, his work for brands like Stella Artois, Unilever, Nestle, P&G, Saab, Diageo, Vaseline, Burger King and Google has achieved both critical acclaim and business results.

    One of the most awarded and globally recognized Indians in advertising, Raj has over 150 awards to his name including several Cannes and One Show gold.

    In 2013, he founded an independent creative agency – Famous Innovations. Today, Famous is a 200+ people agency across Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi, and holds the title of nine-time winner of South Asia Independent Agency of the Year in a row, as well as Digital Agency of the Year, Design Agency of the Year and Green Agency of the Year.

    Raj is a frequent lecturer at institutes such as the Kellogg Institute of Management and Columbia University. He is the Director of Miami Ad School in India. He is part of a think tank with the Government to make India WiFi-friendly.

    He plays a prominent role in shaping the future of education in India as part of the Board of Governors at the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, the Board of Governors at MIT-Pune and the Academic Advisory Board at the National Institute of Design

    Mayuri Nikumbh, head of design at Conran Design has been appointed Jury Chair of Abby Awards 2024 powered by One Show in the Design Category.

    With a strong belief in the power of design to convey authentic stories that help transform businesses as well as influence consumer behaviour, Mayuri has led award-winning projects and contributed to the success of both startups as well as well-established brands.

    An alum of IIT Bombay with a career spanning over two decades, she currently leads the creative vision for Conran Design Mumbai which she helped establish in the middle of the global pandemic. Within three years of its inception, Mayuri has helped win notable businesses and awards including Campaign Agency of the Year, Transform Asia and IDA Awards.

    Mayuri has been voted as one of India’s 40 under Forty go-getters in the creative field by Impact magazine. She has also represented India at the Asia-wide collaborative project ‘Colours of Asia’- which culminated in a unique exhibition at the Hong Kong Design Institute which went on to win the Design for Asia Award.

    Amidst numerous other representations as a leading voice for design, Mayuri has been on the jury panel for Spikes Asia awards, Kyoorius Design Awards as well as all major local festivals. She will also be at Cannes this year as a part of the Design Lions jury.

    Mayuri strongly endorses the practice of working towards the sweet spot of consumers’ and clients’ problem-solving needs. She believes good designers make good citizens that enable a meaningful way of life.
