  • Olive Crown Awards invites entries from across Asia

    MUMBAI: The Olive Crown Awards from the India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) has invited the entries
    from across Asia, for the first time in three years.

    The entries are expected to be received from countries such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, in Asia this time. The last date for entries is 31 January.

    9X Media has come on board as the sponsor of the event.

    RK Swamy BBDO chairman and IAA president Srinivasan Swamy said, “These awards, which salute creativity in green advertising, really serve to bring sustainability to the top of the strategic agenda. Marketers have been realising that sustainability is a key differentiator these days and this has helped make these awards popular.”

    Olive Crown Awards Committee executive director DraftFCB Ulka and chairman MG Parameswaran said, “The Olive Crowns have found universal acceptance amongst the creative community and this year too, we would have a jury consisting of some of the finest and most respected names in the creative fraternity. Keeping in mind that these awards are treated almost as a cause, we do not charge any fee for the entries.”
    Olive Crown Awards was launched by IAA at Goafest 2011. The presentation ceremony this year will be in the first half of March in
    Mumbai.

    IAA appoints Srinivasan Swamy as president

    MUMBAI: International Advertising Association India Chapter has unanimously elected RK Swamy BBDO chairman and MD Srinivasan Swamy as president for the year 2012-2013 at the Annual General Meeting on 2 November.

    Swamy was the VP of the association for the year 2011-2012.

    Swamy said, “In today‘s global economy, associations like the IAA play a pivotal role in building cross- cultural bridges, and in ensuring a seamless transition of ideas and interests across the world”.

    Since the IAA represented marketers, agencies and the media, it had a very important role to play in developing the communication industry in the country and across the globe, he added.

    Swamy said that apart from the Olive Crown awards and the other regular activities that the IAA conducts, he would make a concerted effort to spread the activities of the India Chapter to different parts of the country. Another thrust area would be to get mid-sized agencies and media houses to get further involved in the activities of the IAA so that they could benefit from the involvement and participation.

    He is replacing Reliance Industries president- Brand Strategy and Marketing Communication Kaushik Roy who was the president of IAA India Chapter for two years.

    Roy said, “As I bid adieu, post my two year stint as the president of the IAA India Chapter, I feel happy to have been a part of this eventful roster of events. I have to thank Mr Pradeep Guha (VP and Area Director (Asia Pacific) of the IAA), for orchestrating this CEO Delegation 2012 that saw 23 top-ranking professionals, from across marketing, advertising and the media. My grateful thanks to all my Mancom colleagues who have been so generous with their time to support all the programmes we have had in the last two years.”

    Meanwhile, Crayons Advertising MD Kunal Lalani will be taking over the role of VP of the association, replacing Swamy.

    Kunal Lalani, MD of Crayons Advertising has been appointed Vice President of the Association.

    Turner International India GM- Entertainment Networks – South Asia Monica Tata will take over the responsibility of honorary secretary, while Jaya Advertising director and chairman Jaideep Gandhi will play the role of treasurer.

    The managing committee members elected are Avinash Pandey (MCCS COO), M.G.Parameswaran (Draftfcb + Ulka Advertising executive director and CEO), Neeraj Roy (Hungama Digital Media Entertainment MD and CEO), Raj Nayak (Colors CEO) and Sam Balsara (Madison World chairman and MD) and the new Committee also co-opted Ramesh Narayan (Canco Advertising co-founder), Shreyams Kumar (The Mathrubhumi Ptg and Pbg director), Arunabh Das Shrama (BCCl president), Abhisek Karnani, Manish Advani (Mahindra SSG head marketing and PR) and Neville Taraporewala (Microsoft director India Advertiser and Publisher Solutions Group).

    The India Chapter of IAA (IC-IAA) was incorporated in July 1991 to constitute a local Chapter of the global body.

    JWT, Webchutney and Nokia shine at the Olive Crown Awards

    MUMBAI: JWT and Webchutney shared the ‘Green Agency of the Year‘ award at the Olive Crown Awards held here on 3 March.

    Organised by the India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA), the Olive Crown Awards celebrate excellence in communicating sustainability.

    While the Green Advertiser of the year went to Nokia, Ogilvy bagged the award for Green Initiative along with Matrubhumi. Suzlon‘s PALS campaign created by Lowe Lintas won the silver in the Press- consumer products and services and TVC/Cinema corporate categories. The silver for the Press corporate went to TOI‘s Ganesha 2011 campaign created by Umbrella Design.

    In the category for TVC/Cinema consumer products and services, the silver was awarded to Thane Municipal Corporation ‘Slap‘ campaign created by Ogilvy. In the corporate TVC/Cinema category the gold was bagged by JWT‘s ‘I recycle my Nokia‘ campaign created for Nokia. This campaign also won the gold in the Digital category for its digital campaign created by Webchutney. Nokia‘s campaign also won it the gold in Green Brand of the Year category and the silver for Campaign of the Year. Nokia shared the latter with Volkswagen‘s Think Blue campaign created by DDB Mudra Max and Mediacom. The gold in the Campaign of the year went to iFOLD, a self-campaign created by Ogilvy.

    In the events category, the gold was shared by Matrubhumi‘s Seed event created by in-house and Garnier‘s event organised by Lodestar. The silver in the category was shared amongst Whirpool‘s ‘Ek Jodi Kapda‘ organised by Draft FCB Ulka, Toyota‘s ‘Greeanathon‘ by Dentsu and JK Tyres ‘Soles with Souls‘ event created by Contract Advertising.

    The gold in the OOH category went to Volkswagen‘s Think Blue campaign conceptualised by DDB Mudra Max and Mediacom while the silver went to TOI‘s Ganesh 2011 campaign.

    Dustyfoot Productions‘ short film The Wild Meat Trail won the gold in the Documentary and Short film category. In the category of Press Unreleased Greenpeace‘s Nuclear Bomb campaign by Goldmine won the silver.

    In the category of Young Green Art Director of the Year the gold was awarded to Abhishek Saxena from Webchutney and the silver went to Umbrella Design‘s Uttam Sutar. The silver for the Green Brand of the Year was shared by Matrubhumi‘s Seed and JK Tyres ‘Soles with Souls‘ campaign.

    In the special categories Dr RK Pachauri was felicitated with the Green Crusader Award while Ogilvy and Matrubhuni won the award for Green Initiative. The Olive Green Hungama Award was shared by Kartik Ramnathkar for ‘A big thank you to global warming‘ and Komal Udeshi fro Save Power and Go Green.

    The event witnessed a mix of creativity, entertainment, seriousness, Bollywood and saw the presence of eminent personalities from the world of advertising, marketing and media industry as they walked the “green carpet”.

    Member of Parliament Priya Dutt and Reliance Foundation chairperson Nita Ambani were the guests of honour at the event.

    A special Green Crusader was presented to Pachauri who won the Nobel Prize as Chairman IPCC.
