    Colors Infinity to launch 5 new shows in November

    MUMBAI: Colors infinity is gearing up for power packed November with the launch of as many as five new shows.

    The new shows that are slated to go on air are So You Think You Can DanceBates Motel12 MonkeysAtlantis and Mad Dogs.

    The first show to go on air on the channel is the 12th season of So You Think You Can Dance. This season will kick-start in India with Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo as new judges of the show with the existing judge Nigel Lythgoe. The new season will yet again see Cat Deeley’s 11 hosting the show.  The dance reality will premiere on 2 November at 8 pm.

    Next in line is a contemporary prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s 1965 psycho-thriller, Bates Motel. It is a series of drama-thriller depicting the lives of Norman Bates and his mother Norma after buying a motel in White Pine Bay. The show will premiere on 6 November at 9 pm.

    12 Monkeys, a sci-fi thriller highlights the theme of time-travel where a time traveller from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will nearly destroy the human race. The series debuts on 11 November at 9 pm.

    Following it will be Mad Dogs, a dark comedy that portrays the spirit of friendship, but with a twist. The series opens on 16 November at 9 pm.

    Atlantis is a British-Fantasy show inspired by Greek Mythology and will premiere on 17 November at 9 pm with three back-to-back episodes.

    BBC director of television Danny Cohen resigns

    MUMBAI: After a stint of eight years, BBC director of television Danny Cohen has stepped from his post to pursue a new leadership challenge.

     

    Cohen will leave the pubcaster at the end of November. BBC controller of entertainment commissioning Mark Linsey will take on his responsibilities until an appointment is made. 

     

    Cohen said, “After eight wonderful years at the BBC, it is time for my next big challenge. BBC Television is on brilliant creative form. I feel very privileged to have led television for the world’s finest public service broadcaster and to have worked with so many smart and talented people. In particular, I’d like to thank my fantastic team across BBC Television, all the people who have been involved with making our programmes in the last few years, my colleagues on the Executive Board and Tony Hall, who I admire greatly.” 

     

    “In the last few weeks I’ve been approached about a number of exciting opportunities and I want to consider these in an open and transparent way. There has never been a more exciting time for television and digital media. I’m looking forward to taking up a new leadership role in this age of intense creative and technological innovation,” he added. 

     

    BBC director general Tony Hall said, “Danny has done an extraordinary job over the last eight years at the BBC. In a world of intense competition and choice, he has further enhanced the BBC’s reputation for quality programming that is full of ambition and creativity. Danny has led the incredible resurgence of drama on the BBC, having commissioned or overseen shows like Happy Valley, Poldark, Last Tango In Halifax, Wolf Hall, Top Of The Lake, Peaky Blinders, Doctor Who and the forthcoming Dickensian and War And Peace. He has also made an outstanding contribution to comedy and entertainment, with shows such as Cradle To Grave, Peter Kay’s Car Share, Strictly Come Dancing, EastEnders and The Graham Norton Show. He also led BBC One’s 2012 London Olympics coverage. That is one hell of a CV.”

     

    “He is one of TV’s great talents. I know everyone who has worked with Danny has huge admiration for what he has delivered for the BBC. I want to wish him well for the future,” Hall added.

    Discovery eyes November launch for TLC channel in Turkey

    MUMBAI: Come November and Discovery will be launching its female-skewed TLC channel in Turkey as a free-to-air (FTA) channel following its acquisition of Turkish national FTA entertainment channel CNBC-e from Dogus Media Group.

     

    With this, Discovery will have a total of four channels airing in Turkey namely TLC, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Discovery Science.

     

    The new channel will replace CNBC-e and offer a mix of non-scripted and scripted international entertainment and lifestyle programming. The shows that will be aired on the channel include Fear the Walking Dead, Aquarius, Poldark, Oprah Prime and Oprah’s Master Class. Additionally, the shows that were previously on CNBC-e including The Vikings, Hannibal and Mike & Molly will also find a place on the channel.

    Broadband users rise to 82.22 million in November

    NEW DELHI: Showing an appreciable increase owing to mobile subscribers, the number of broadband subscribers increased from 79.21 million at the end of October 2014 to 82.22 million at the end of November 2014 showing a monthly growth rate of 3.79 per cent.

    The top five service providers constituted 86.97 per cent market share of total broadband subscribers at the end of November 2014. These service providers were BSNL (18.70 million), Bharti Airtel (18.17 million), Vodafone (15.61 million), Idea Cellular (12.26 million) and Reliance Communications Group (6.77 million).

    Wireless subscribers with less than 1MB data usage in a month have not been considered as internet/broadband subscribers by Reliance Communication Group and Idea Cellular.

    As on 30 November 2014, the top five Wired Broadband Service providers were BSNL (9.98 million), Bharti Airtel (1.40 million), MTNL (1.13 million), Beam Telecom (0.44 million) and YOU Broadband (0.42 million).

    The top five Wireless Broadband Service providers were Bharti Airtel (16.77 million), Vodafone (15.60 million), Idea Cellular (12.25 million), BSNL (8.72 million) and Reliance Communications Group (6.67 million).

    Segment-wise, the largest growth of 4.57 per cent in Mobile devices users (Phones and dongles) from 63.65 million subscribers to 66.56 million, followed by a growth of 3.52 per cent from 420,000 to 430,000 broadband subscribers, and 530,000 in wired subscribers from 15.15 million to 15.23 million between October end and November end.
