    Bollywood actor Jiah Khan commits suicide, reason still unknown

    MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Jiah Khan has allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence, police said.

    The 25-year-old actor reportedly hanged herself at her Juhu residence. Jiah was brought up in England and had shifted to Mumbai with her mother Rabiya recently.

    She started her career in Bollywood with an unconventional debut in Nishabd (2007) alongside the legend himself Amitabh Bachchan, went on to star in a small but pivotal role in Aamir Khan‘s blockbuster Ghajini (2008) and a friendly cameo in Sajid Khan‘s hit-comedy Housefull 2 (2012).

    She recently signed a couple of new films and had changed her name to Nafisa Khan, the name her parents gave her.

    Although only six years into the Hindi film industry, Jiah with her Nishabad had gained an undisputable place in the industry.

    People did believe that the damsel with a perfect dusky complexion, luscious hair and perfect pout, was here for a long haul.

    All such notions and myths came to an end with her heartbreaking death. The film industry is in shock and has expressed a deep grief over her demise.

    According to the police, her maid, watchman and neighbours are being interrogated to find out details about her last visitors. Police sources said that the incident happened at about 11.00 pm and no suicide note was found. The body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for postmortem.

    Red FM presents ‘live’ music preview of Nishabd

    MUMBAI: Red FM promises constant innovative programming to its listeners. Keeping in line with this, the station presented a ‘live preview’ of Ram Gopal Varma’s soon to be released film, Nishabd at a press conference on 17 February.

    Director RGV along with Vishal Bharadwaj, Manmohan Shetty, Amar Mohile, Bhushan Kumar and the star cast Amitabh Bacchan and Jiah Khan were present at this unique preview which was aired across all its FM stations live. Recreating a radio studio right on the stage , RJ Malishka presented the show chatting with the director, music director and stars of the movie.

    Commenting on this unique initiative Red FM COO Abraham Thomas said, “This is first for any radio station in India. With this event we have raised the bar in terms of providing excellent content and innovative programming for our listeners. This association helps Red FM further strengthen its commitment towards bringing the best of Bollywood for its listeners!”

    Speaking about the music launch, director Ram Gopal Varma said, “Nishabd is a beautiful movie with a very sensitive subject and needs to be promoted with extreme maturity. Red FM has done an excellent job of showcasing the music of the film and we are extremely pleased with the kind of reach the movie has received with this first ever live music premiere on Red FM.”

    MUMBAI: B4U Music introduced two new faces to represent the evolving international face of the network- Asad Shaan and Khushboo. He channel claims that the VJ launches are part of its ongoing initiative to pump in freshness and vibrancy into its programming and content presentation.

    VJ Asad has a background in acting and has studied at Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and New York Film Academy. He is has also won the title of Mr. Asia in UK.VJ Khushboo has extended her modeling and choreography career to television.

    B4U Television Network is currently in the process of revitalizing its brand image. The network operates two television channels – B4U Music and B4U Movies. B4U Movies recently acquired worldwide telecast rights for Guru, Umrao Jaan and Nishabd.

    Eros Intnl acquires global distn rights for ‘Nishabd’

    MUMBAI: The global distribution rights for the soon to be released movie Nishabd has been acquired by Eros International. The movie is directed by Ram Gopal Varma and co-produced by Ad Labs.

    Apart from Omkara and the recently released Salaam-E-Ishq and Eklavya, the other global releases that Eros has in the pipeline include Nishabd, Namastey London and the Aishwarya Rai starrer Provoked. All these movies are likely to be released by April 2007.

    Nishabd stars Amitabh Bachchan and new comer Jiah Khan in the lead roles. Aftab Shivdasani, Revathi and Rukhsar also star in the film in supporting roles.

    Eros will release Nishabd globally on 2 March.
