Beyond Type 1 expands to India to support children and youth with Type 1 diabetes

MUMBAI: In response to the urgent need for greater awareness and support for people living with type 1 diabetes, Beyond Type 1 has announced its expansion to India. The global nonprofit, co-founded by Nick Jonas, works to change what it means to live with diabetes by raising awareness, building supportive communities, providing life-saving resources, and amplifying voices too often unheard.

India ranks second globally in type 1 diabetes cases (after the US) and has the highest number of children and teenagers living with T1D in the world. Yet awareness remains alarmingly low, too many diagnoses come late, stigma persists, and studies show youth with type 1 diabetes are twice as likely to experience depression or anxiety compared to their peers.

Beyond Type 1, CEO, Deborah Dugan shared, “Beyond Type 1 was founded to challenge outdated narratives about diabetes and to show what it truly means to live beyond a diagnosis, but access to education, strong support systems, and good care are essential for both physical and mental health. As a part of our expansion to India, we are joining forces with local organizations who are building those systems every day, standing alongside a community that is already reshaping what it means to live with diabetes.”

Local partners include Hriday, which will implement programs on the ground, and the NCD Alliance, providing global support. The partnership will prioritise awareness campaigns, early detection, school- and community-based education, and peer support: initiatives designed to meet people where they are and center the lived experiences of those most impacted.

“We know real change happens when communities are at the heart of the solution,” said Hriday, executive director, Monika Arora.

This expansion aligns with the recent UN political declaration on NCDs, which spotlighted the urgent need for collective action on both physical and mental health.

NCD Alliance, CEO, Katie Dain added, “NCDs like type 1 diabetes have effects that reach further than physical health alone, and much more needs to be done to support the mental health of people living with NCDs. Beyond Type 1’s expansion into India brings much-needed attention and energy to this issue, and we welcome their commitment to working alongside local partners and communities in driving change.”

As Beyond Type 1 marks its 10th anniversary, the organisation is proud to expand its work with partners in India to help break stigma, amplify voices, and drive progress toward a future where people don’t just manage diabetes, they thrive beyond their diagnosis, beyond barriers, and beyond expectations.

Dropped along the wind swept coastline, they navigate jagged peaks and descend sheer cliffs, only to be battered by ocean swells. As they contend with the elements, the two struggle to stay warm and must subsist on a meager diet of maggots sourced from a rotting sheep. Cox’s limits will be tested, but her spirit shines while sharing insights on aging gracefully, the loss of her father, and the joy of motherhood.

    · Vonn takes a speedboat trip with Grylls, before they swim to shore, cross a chasm and dine on sea urchins. How will she get on?

As they make their way through the dangerous and unpredictable terrain, Julianne shares her personal story of abuse, and the positivity and unwavering determination that got her to the top.

    · Jonas joins Grylls for an icy journey across the Sierra Nevada mountains. With a blizzard bearing down, Nick and Bear must rappel down a sheer rock face before navigating an avalanche-prone mountain face. Building camp under harsh conditions, the two feast on a frozen bird, and eventually make a heart-stopping swim across a freezing lake. Along the way, Nick gives us the definitive account of the Jonas Brothers’ split and reveals how his struggle with diabetes gave him the drive to reach the pinnacle of the music world.

    · America’s Got Talent judge and pop icon Mel B roughs it with Grylls on the shark-infested waters of the Irish coast.

    · After a breathtaking repel from a helicopter, Grylls and Hudgens evade a boulder avalanche, summit a massive dormant volcano, and come face-to-face with a rattlesnake, which makes for a cringe-worthy dinner. Along the way, Vanessa reveals her struggle to accept the passing of her father, and shares insights on her meteoric rise to stardom.

Nick Jonas & Universal Music Publishing ink new deal

MUMBAI: This week Nick Jonas and Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) executives had double reason to celebrate, as the pop superstar’s second hit radio single “Jealous” reached No.1 — officially claiming the top spot on the Mediabase Pop Airplay Chart. The No.1 milestone for Jonas also occurred on the heels of concluding his new worldwide publishing deal with UMPG.

“I’m so thrilled to be a part of the Universal family, I’m looking forward to being a part of this amazing year to come,” said Jonas.

“Nick Jonas has a long future ahead of him, not only as a major pop star but as a really inventive songwriter and producer. We’re delighted to be working with him and our label partners at Island/Republic, and extremely proud of his well-deserved No.1,” said Universal Music Publishing Group chairman and CEO Jody Gerson.

Through the deal UMPG will represent Jonas’ songs on his sophomore solo studio album, Nick Jonas (Island Records), which was released 10 November. UMPG will provide global creative and administration services, as well as represent his repertoire for synch licensing in films, TV, games, apps and other media.

Jonas wrote or co-wrote six songs on the album including “Jealous,” his first No.1. The song has remained steadily in the Top 10 for 18 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, scanning more than 1.1 million since release (Nielsen). It’s his second trip to the Top 10 overall: Jonas reached No.10 in 2009 as a member of the Jonas Brothers with “Paranoid.” Jonas’ dance mix, “Jealous (2-1),” which feat remixes from Bent Collective, the Rooftop Boys and Ugo among others, also reached the summit of Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart.
