    News18 Kannada creates an impact on Bengaluru roads

    Mumbai: News18 Kannada has taken an oath to help Bengalureans in getting pothole-free roads. On the same note, News18 Kannada started a campaign called #ShutThePothole.

    The channel invited viewers to be part of this campaign and they are actively participating in it by sharing videos & images of bad roads in their areas.

    With this campaign, News18 Kannada echoes the voice of Bengalureans by showing the spotlight on bad roads, ignorance of BBMP and administrators. The echoes of this campaign forced BBPM to frame a special task force to fill potholes.

    Based on the News18 Kannada’s #ShutThePothole campaign, BBMP commissioner Gaurav Gupta passed an order to rectify the roads immediately.

    With reference to News18 Kannada’s special report on Bengaluru roads, BBMP commissioner Gaurav Gupta held a meeting with the infrastructure department and framed a zonal level special task force to fill the potholes, and also during night time in many areas BBMP started to fill the potholes.

    “I have already given strict instructions to officials to fix the potholes on a priority basis,” said Gaurav Gupta. ‘I have asked officials to work as a team so everyone, from the chief engineer to the executive engineer are all on the same page and work towards repairing the roads. Officials will be held responsible if they fail to repair the roads.”

    News18 Kannada Varshada Kannadiga 2021 set for 26 March

    BENGALURU: The countdown has begun for Varshada Kannadiga awards, the annual signature event of News18 Kannada to be held next week. As a precursor to the event, a jury meet was held on 13 March with members comprising the who’s who of Bangalore. Every year, a jury is constituted and headed by an eminent personality. This year, the jury was chaired by the esteemed Karnataka high court former justice H N Nagamohan Das.

    The jury put together had a good mix of seven eminent people from different sectors. From law enforcement, to politics, art and culture, entertainment, sports and corporate, the panel was well represented from all sectors.

    The esteemed jury members were:

    Prof. Doddarange Gowda, poet & lyricist.

    R Ashok, revenue minister – government of Karnataka

    Sudharani, Sandalwood actress

    Reena Suvarna, KAS

    V R Raghunath, Hockey Olympian

    Sneha Rakesh, entrepreneur

    The awards are divided into eight categories — literature, entertainment, public service, business, science and technology, sports. The other two categories are the Varshada Kannadiga and Lifetime Achievement award. The names were shortlisted looking at people who have performed extremely well during the year, some unrecognized and extraordinary feats of ordinary people. Under the supervision of  News18 Kannada editor Siddappa Kaloji, the names were submitted by the editorial staff, and nominations from the public. These names were filtered, by the editorial and five entries were placed in front of the jury for final selection.

    The roundtable saw a good amount of humour, active discussions, related anecdotes, varied opinions about nominees and their contributions – before finally reaching a consensus.

    The nominees and the winners will be declared on 26 March 2021, Friday, at J W Mariott with a grand, star studded presentation ceremony.

    The star studded, august gathering on Saturday evening saw some of the finest feats among the glitterati. News 18 Kannada, one of India’s largest news network, presented its annual signature Varshada Kannadiga awards on February 22 to eight extra ordinary achievers.

    As a precursor, a jury meeting was held on February 7 to filter the shortlisted contenders.  Chaired by the esteemed former Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde, the jury finalized the list of eight people from various sectors for the awards.

    Saturday evening saw  over 300 guests witnessing the gala award ceremony. The who’s who included celebrities from Sandalwood, bureaucracy, politicians and friends of News 18 – DCM Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, BJP MPs Tejasvi Surya and D V Sadananda Gowda, MLAs  K  Gopalaiah, S T Somashekar, BJP Spokesperson – Malavika Avinash;  actors Puneet Rajkumar, Ganesh, Ninasam Sathish, Dali Dhananjay,  Haripriya,  Aditi Prabhudeva, Shree Leela and Sanah Thimmayya. Former DG and IGP T Srikumar, retired IAS officer T Thimme Gowda, DPAR secretary Munish Moudgil and traffic commissioner Ravikanthe Gowda.

    Throwing the floor open for the evening and welcoming the guests, News18 Kannada editor Siddappa Kaloji said: “It is a matter of pride to honor the internationally renowned achievers of Karnataka. These achievers are truly an inspiration.’’

    The eight awardees were:

    –          Niranjan Mukundan, in the Sports category for having won prestigious international medals as a para-swimmer for 17 times.

    –          Anuradha TK, the project director of ISRO, who was instrumental in the launch of the G-SAT satellite, was finalized in the Science and Technology category.

    –          Niranjan Nempe, the inventor of  arecanut tea. He was chosen in the Business category. 

    –          Prof. G.S. Jayadeva was honored in the Social Service category.

    –          Actor and director, Rishab Shetty bagged the Arts and Entertainment award.

    –          Nemichandra lifted the Literature trophy.

    –          Dr.H.S Venkatesh Murthy, also known as the Ruby (Manikya) of the Kannada literary world, was the Varshada Kannadiga 2020.

    –          Lifetime Achievement Award, the most coveted honour was bestowed upon Chennaveera Kanavi.

    Addressing the gathering, MP Tejasvi Surya, cine actor Puneeth lauded the channels and selection committee’s efforts in identifying people who have been extra-ordinary performers, from across different sectors.

    Kudalasangama Basavajaya Mrutyunjaya seer who spoke briefly Swamiji  said most of these achievers were Kannadigas and that people born and brought up in this state have the caliber to excel on the global arena.

    News18 Kannada Varshada Kannadiga 2020 will be telecasted on 29th Feb 2020 Saturday at 5:30pm and repeat on 1st March 2020 Sunday at 10 am.

Prominent stakeholders from the of  field of politics, education, society, economics, industry, entertainment, cinema etc expressed their valuable ideas and drew the government's attention to innumerable possibilities in the path of progress.

    The crux of the event was the presence of the chief minister of Karnataka, B S Yediyurappa. He was accompanied by the deputy chief minister, Ashwath Narayan.  Shri. B S Yediyurappa assured the gathering that Karnataka will make giant leaps of progress in the next 6 months. His main agenda of reform for the farmers and in areas of irrigation that would aid the farmers and what has been a thorn with erratic rainfall in the state.  He also elaborated on his plans to improve road infrastructure and transport, solving traffic congestion, and touched upon many other relevant issues . He promised that Bangalore will soon be one the best metropolis in the world. He also reiterated that it's not enough if only Bangalore progresses. The other regions of the state must follow suit. He said that he will make great efforts to bring up the other regions by starting industries and providing job opportunities to the youth.

    Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan also elaborated on many of these issues including waste and water management and said all the departments must be brought under one umbrella for cohesive and smooth functioning.

    Freedom fighter H S Doreswamy brought to the CM’s notice the deplorable state of Victoria Hospital. The senior veteran said that the hospital was akin to hell and urged the chief minister to build a new hospital with good amenities. BSY  assured him that this would be fulfilled. He also said, not just the hospital, but the map of entire Bangalore will go through a sea change.

    Padmashree awardee Saalumarada Timmakka,  leaders from BJP,  Congress and JDS , Tinsel stars Sharan, Aditi Prabhudeva, farmers' champion Kuruburu Shanta Kumar, students and office bearers of many organizations were present at the event. They put forth their concerns and questions and suggestions to the government.

    The introductory speech was delivered by News18 Kannada Editor,  Siddappa Kaloji, and elaborated on the aims and aspirations of the event Rising Karnataka. The chief of the Content and Editorial Board, Mr. Santosh Ramachandra Menon, CEO – Languages Cluster, Karan Abhishekh Singh, Special project, Campaign and Event Managing Editor, Mr. Karthik Subbaraman were present.

    The efforts of Rising Karnataka in bringing together people from different fields was commended by all. BSY  once again reiterated his focus on bringing about  comprehensive progress in the state in all fields.

    News18 Kannada strengthens its core team with new appointments

    News18 Kannada, the most trusted news channel in Karnataka, announced the appointment of Siddu Kaloji and Swaroop Murgod. Siddu joins the channel as Editor (News and Programming) and Swaroop as Head of Production. The channel also announced the elevation of Vijayalakshmi Shibarur and Lakshmana Hoogar to the core leadership team.
    Commenting on the appointments, Karthik Subbaraman, Executive Editor (Special Projects), Network 18, said, “Siddu and Swaroop are among the finest talents in journalism in Karnataka. They bring innovation, creativity and speed, attributes which will help take what is the state’s most credible news channel to a wider audience. Vijayalakhsmi Shibarur, who ranks among the best investigative journalists in the country, is also moving into a frontline role as part of the core leadership team of News18 Kannada. And so is Lakshmana Hoogar, a fearless anchor who heads political coverage. I wish all of them the best for their new roles and upcoming challenges.”
    All input, output and programming functions at the channel will now report to Siddu. He has over two decades of experience in news television. He has worked for News18 Kannada in its former avatar as ETV News Kannada and Zee News.
    Swaroop is a Network18 veteran, having had a stint at what CNN News18 in Delhi. In a career of 22 years so far, he has worked at Aaj Tak, Star News, News9, ESPN Cricinfo, NDTV and Asianet.
