NT Awards 2023: Honouring excellence in the news media landscape!

Mumbai: 2023, a notably eventful year for media professionals unfolded. India took centre stage by hosting the G20 and post-G20 coverage, contributing to a politically dynamic atmosphere.

The News Television Awards, established by Indiantelevision.com, were truly earned, with entries assessed by distinguished marketers. The awards ceremony took place at the Royal Ballroom, Holiday Inn, Mayur Vihar, creating an exhilarating evening.

Introduced to commend and recognise news anchors across the country, the awards gained widespread popularity. The recognition spanned various languages, and this year witnessed the presentation of a total of 132 awards.

TV9 Network bags 46 awards at NT Summit 2022

Mumbai: TV9 Network has bagged 46 awards at the News Television (NT) Summit & Awards held recently in New Delhi.

This year’s awards felicitated work of Indian News Channels across English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bangla, Gujarati, and Kannada languages amongst others. Each language had five categories including ‘Programming Awards’, ‘Personality Awards’, ‘Promo Design and Packaging Awards’, ‘Sales and Marketing Awards’ and ‘Special Awards’.

NT Awards 2022: Check out the winners!

Mumbai: IndianTelevision.com is back with its latest edition of the News Television (NT) Awards 2022, that recognises, honours and celebrates the ground-breaking work done in the space of Indian television news in the year gone by.

The 15th edition of the NT Summit and Awards were held at Holiday Inn, New Delhi on Friday. The evening saw the cream of the Indian news industry being felicitated, including regional news channels. The event was co-sponsored by Dalet. GTPL Hathway, Hill+Knowlton Strategies, JW Player and Live U were industry support partners and The Ayurveda Company was gifting partner.

The NT Awards 2022 felicitated work across English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bangla, Gujarati, and Kannada languages, among others. Each language had five categories including, ‘Programming Awards’, ‘Personality Awards’, ‘Promo, Design and Packaging Awards’, ‘Sales and Marketing Awards’, and ‘Special Awards’.

A total of 154 awards across 40 categories were given out this year to deserving news channels and eminent personalities in the industry. These included awards presented to channel programmers, anchors, presenters, technicians, producers, editors, reporters and management from news media groups such as TV9 Network, Zee Media Corporation, Network18 Group, India Today Group, Times Network, NDTV, ABP Network, among others.

This year’s Best Prime Time News Show in the Programming Awards category was conferred upon News18 India’s Sau Baat Ki Ek Baat show while amongst English News channel Wion’s Gravitas took home the award.

The Prime TV News Anchor (male) award was won by NDTV 24×7’s Sanket Upadhyay, while CNN-News18’s Marya Shakil picked up the coveted award in the female anchor category for English channels.

In Hindi, Zee Hindustan’s Pratyush Khare and Aaj Tak’s Anjana Om Kashyap bagged the honours, respectively.

English news channel, Wion took home the top honours for Best Live News Reporting on Ground, as well as the award for Strongest Digital Footprint of a News Network.

Aaj Tak’s digital campaign won the Strongest Digital Footprint of a News Network Award among Hindi news channels.

In the Sales and Marketing category, Times Now Navbharat’s ‘Ab Badlega Bharat Banega Navbharat’ campaign won the ‘Best Marketing Initiative from a News Channel’ in Hindi, while in English, CNN-News18’s #DontShowMeYourFace campaign won the honour.

In the Special Awards category, India Today’s ‘Pehno Sahi’ and TV9 Bharatvarsh’s Suraksha Bandhan with Gulf Oil won the ‘Social Contribution by a News Network’ recognition respectively.

The esteemed jury for the awards included H+K Strategies India chief executive officer Abhishek Gulyani, Sri Adhikari Brothers chairman and managing director Adhikari Markand, OMD India CEO Anisha Iyer, Airtel VP-media Archana Aggarwal, Upstox senior director-marketing Kunal Bhardwaj, among others.

India Ahead’s Bhupendra Chaubey bets big on regional news

MUMBAI: Senior journalist and former main man of CNN News18, Bhupendra Chaubey is a very busy man. He is juggling the affairs of 12 editions of Telugu daily Andhra Prabha as well as running English news channel India Ahead. Since joining the national news channel as owner & co-promoter in June 2020, Chaubey has been leading its foray into the regional space.

At Indiantelevision.com’s News Television Awards 2020 Summit, co-powered by TVU Networks, Chaubey spoke at length about his vision for the company going forward. In a virtual fireside chat with Indiantelevision.com founder, CEO, and editor-in-chief Anil Wanvari, Chaubey revealed that the company is in process of doing a collaboration with a large scale broadcaster in Goa.

Chaubey further mentioned that in the course of a month the organisation will have a dedicated show about Goa news. He is aiming to reach audiences across India through digital campaigns and cross promotion on various other platforms. Said he: “I think it is the best time to re-imagine the media landscape and I am glad to say that our organisation is not backed by some big corporate entity, but we are still trying to do something different.”

The India Ahead editor-in-chief is looking to delve deeper into Indian states in terms of specific coverage. "We are picking stories from the areas which are not even heard of," he claimed.

Wanvari asked Chaubey why prime time shows are not tackling enough issues and giving adequate representation of what is happening in India. The senior reporter explained that over the last ten years, broadcasting platforms are operating on the credo that talk is cheap and content creation is expensive. “Over this period, talk shows started replacing the entire existence of TV news itself. There used to be debate shows during morning, afternoon and evening. At India Ahead we are attempting to focus on collaboration and not just metro cities. Every Indian state has regional media houses, so there is no dearth of news, but the only challenge is nobody has attempted to delve deep into regional stories.”

Chaubey pointed out that contrary to the popular view propped up by rating organisations and marketing agencies, regional news fetches better ratings. According to him, at the end it’s the consumer who is benefited the most. When it comes to India Ahead, the news is dedicated to southern states every day from 1 pm to 5 pm. Later in the evening, the channel telecasts a show called People’s Editor, which again caters to different parts of the country.

The 2020 edition of the event will culminate with the grand News Television Awards, which will honour the best performers in the Indian news television space across more than 40 categories. The results will be declared virtually on 6 November 2020.

Eighth NT Awards judging ends

NEW DELHI: A stellar jury – consisting of senior print and television news professionals – completed the judging of indiantelevision.com’s Eighth News Television Awards in Delhi last weekend. They spent more than two and a half days judging 600 Hindi and English news TV entries from 15 news channels.

Earlier this year, other juries had adjudicated on the Telugu and Marathi entries in Hyderabad and Mumbai respectively. The Eighth NT Awards received 300 submissions from 13 Telugu channels and 180 entries from Three Marathi News channels.

Top domestic mobile handset maker Gionee has come on board as title sponsorof indiantelevision.com’s Eighth NT Awards.

Gionee presents indiantelevision.com’s Eighth NT Awards are to be held on 29 June 2016 in New Delhi’s Hotel Lalit.

Price Waterhouse Coopers is the tabulator for the awards process.

Seventh News Television Awards gets a full house

NEW DELHI: The bright shining chandeliers that towered over the audience could not match the delight on the faces of the winners as they cheered for their team mates and channels at the seventh edition of indiantelevision.com’s News Television Awards. The gala evening held at The Lalit in New Delhi saw the who’s who of the News TV fraternity and the best of them took away the coveted trophy.

Awards being presented by noted personalities that included Communication advisor to the prime minister Pankaj Pachauri, national commission for minorities chairperson Wajahat Habibullah, fashion designer Ritu Kumar, former cricketer Ajay Jadeja, actor Parvin Dabbas, Padma Shri dancers Raja Reddy and Radha Reddy, Dabur chairman VC Burman, politician Subramanian Swamy, former Comptroller & Auditor General of India Vinod Rai, NDTV head honcho KVL Narayan Rao, cricketer Surinder Khanna, among many others.

Some of the big take aways for the gala night were NDTV 24X7 editor Barkha Dutt and NDTV India editor Ravish Kumar for best TV news anchors in English and Hindi respectively, Bloomberg TV editor Vivek Law as best business news anchor in English and CNN-IBN’s Suhasini Haidar as best TV news presenter in English.

Shows that won accolades included CNN-IBN’s India at 9 for best daily news bulletin in English and Dastak by Aaj Tak for the same in Hindi. CNBC TV 18’s India Business Hour was given the award of best business news programme in English while NDTV 24X7’s We the People won for best talk show in English.

Not to forget were the awards given away in the two regional categories as well- Telugu and Marathi. K Nagendar Sai from CVR news won best business news anchor in Telugu while K Padmini from TV9 was awarded for best entertainment news anchor in Telugu. Alka Dhupkar from IBN-Lokmat was recognized as the best TV news anchor in Marathi. V6 news from Andhra Pradesh won best channel packaging of the year and Zee 24 Taas’ show Rokhthok- Shradhecha Bhandwalachi Mujori won for best news debate in Marathi.

Apart from this, for the first time, recognitions were given to the ‘game changers’ of 2013 by indiantelevision.com group founder, CEO and editor-in-chief Anil Wanvari, that included NDTV, Zee Media Corporation, Network 18 and India TV.

The evening saw around 500 guests – consisting of professionals from the TV news ecosystem – attend and cheer for the winners as they took away galores of prizes.

The ceremony was possible thanks to partners such as Jia News, News Nation, Akamai Technologies, India News, News X, Sakshi TV, TV9, CNBC Awaaz and CNBC TV18.

Sixth NT Awards celebrate the best in news business

New Delhi: The news television industry came out in droves to celebrate success on 25 March evening at New Delhi’s Taj Palace Hotel. Representative of TV news channels reporting in Marathi, Hindi, English and Telugu all came together under one roof, forgetting rivalries, news breaks and to hold themselves under the spotlight at the Indiantelevision.com’s Sixth News Television Awards.

Presented by LR Active Oil, with the support of many other industry partners, the NT Awards had a packed house as 116 awards in various categories were given away by dignitaries from politics, sport, society and culture.

The chief guest for the evening was Information and Broadcasting Minister of State (independent charge) Manish Tewari. “While the government is all for taking self regulation forward, there is need to decide where freedom of press ends and reasonable restrictions begin,” he said.

He also congratulated the winners and the organisers for celebrating the vibrancy and robustness of the television industry and presented a host of awards to winners.

“We received more than 1000 entries from the various news channels and had lots of help from those in public life and from journalists in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad to short list the winners. Ernst and Young helped us in tabulating the peer judging process,” says Anil Wanvari, CEO and Founder of Indiantelevision.com, “The awards are growing in strength and I thank the industry for all the support it has been giving our initiative.”

The event was anchored by Cyrus Broacha and dashing Kavita Kaushik whose quips had news professionals in splits throughout the evening.

Awards were given for the best in categories like crime shows, sports shows, technology, documentaries with limited episode, TV news presenter, TV news anchor, investigative feature, investigative news report, entertainment news show et al.

Special awards were given to Contribution to News Television, Innovation and Leadership in App Development, Most Extensive Social Media TV News Brand, Best News Channel Website, and for News Cinematographer.

Aroon Purie, founder-publisher and Editor-in-Chief of India Today and the Chief Executive of the India Today Group stated that contrary to the general view, self regulation has made great strides in Indian television. He added that the News Broadcasters’ Association is taking a pro-active stance to raise standards of content. “The verdicts are being accepted by the channels and apologies made whenever required,” he pointed out.

Rajdeep Sardesai, Editor-in-Chief of IBN18 Network, praised the strides by regional channels and expressed the hope that Hindi news channels would mend their “moral compass” by taking up serious issues.

The awards function came at the end of a news summit on “Getting out of the Squeeze – Learning to live in a digitising India” which saw I&B secretary Uday Kumar Varma, I&B joint secretary Supriya Sahu and representatives of leading news channels, MSOs, technology providers and others in the television news industry taking part in different sessions.
