    Noida: In an announcement made on Friday by iTV Network, R K Arora joins as director – strategy and planning. Arora has a wealth of leadership experience of around two-and-a-half decades in the news broadcasting, spanning the entire spectrum from strategic vision and planning to execution. He has a standout track record, result-oriented approach and has a deep understanding of news ecosystem.

    Arora was, until recently, the executive director and CEO of Zee Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL). He has previously held various senior executive positions with various media houses of repute viz. News Nation, India News, News 24 and India TV.

    Arora is a Chartered Accountant by profession and has formidable experience in Finance, Distribution, overall operations and formulating strategies for the organization. In his new role at iTV network, he will focus on creating streamlined operating models between cross-functional teams, orchestrating a rhythm of the business system of focus and accountability, and driving efficiencies in go to market activities by streamlining processes and automating work.

    He will report to the network's board.

    Arora is an iTV alumnus, and elaborating on the vision that he aims to follow in his new role at iTV Network, he said, “It is a nice moment to come back to iTV network.     MEASAT adds 3 channels from South Asia

    MUMBAI: MEASAT satellite systems, on 2 July, expanded its video region in South Asia with the distribution of News24, Sagarmatha TV and Prime TV. The satellite system is a premium supplier of communication and video services to leading broadcasters, direct-to-home (DTH) platforms and telecom operators. MEASAT provides services to over 150 countries representing 80 per cent of the world’s population across Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and Australia, withcapacity across six communication satellites. MEASAT senior VP – sales Raj Malik said, “We are delighted to welcome and distribute News24, Sagarmatha TV and Prime TV via the MEASAT video distributionnetwork. The addition of these channels is testimonial to the trust broadcasters place on the strength of our distribution via our 91.5°E video hot slot.” Feeds of all the three channels are taken from Nepal.   • B. A. G. Films reports improved top and bottom lines

    BENGALURU: The Anurradha Prasad led B. A. G. Films and Media Limited (BAG Films) reported improved revenue and profit after tax (PAT) for the year ended 31 March 2017 (FY-17, current year or fiscal) as compared to fiscal 2016.

    Two of the company’s four segments – Television broadcasting and FM Radio reported increase in operating revenues and operating profits in the current year as compared to the previous year. Its Audio Visual production segment reported lower operating revenue and operating profits, while operating revenue and operating losses of its Leasing segment declined in fiscal 2017 as compared to fiscal 2016.

    The company’s income from operations or operating revenue increased 16.6 percent to Rs1,366.84 million in FY-17 to Rs 1,17241 million in the previous year. BAG Films reported PAT of Rs 8.43 million in FY-17 as compared to a loss of Rs 28.94 million in the previous year. Simple EBIDTA excluding other income increased 12.9 percent to Rs 319.34 million (23.4 percent of Operating Revnue) in FY-17 from Rs 282.76 million (24.1 percent of Operating Revenue).

    The company’s Total Expenses increased 13.1 percent to Rs 1,177.42 million (86.1 percent of Operating Revenue) in FY-17 from Rs 1,041.15 million (88.8 percent of Operating Revenue). Employee costs increased 4.3 percent in fiscal 2017 to Rs 209.90 million (15.3 percent of Operating Revenue) from Rs 200.35 million (17.1 percent of Operating Revenue) in the previous year. Other expenses increased 14.5 percent in FY-17 to Rs 814.64 million (59.6 percent of Operating Revenue) from Rs 711.52 million (60.7 percent of Operating Revenue) in FY-16. Finance costs increased 7.5 percent to Rs 163.5 million (12 percent of Operating Revenue) in the current year from Rs 152.16 million (13 percent of Operating Revenue) in the previous year.

    Segment Numbers

    BAG Films Television segment has three channels News 24, E24 and Darshan 24, while its Radio segment, Radio Dhamaal 24 operates 10 FM radio stations in the country.

    BAG Films biggest segment is its Television Broadcasting (TV) segment. TV segment’s operating revenue increased 22.9 percent in FY-17 to Rs1,126.05 million from Rs 916.56 million in FY-16. TV segment’s operating profit increased 33.2 percent in FY-17 to Rs 315.34 million from Rs 236.7 million in the previous fiscal.

    Audio Visual Production segment revenue for fiscal 2017 declined 20.3 percent to Rs 137.54 million from Rs 172.67 million in the previous fiscal. The segment’s operating revenue declined 42 percent to Rs 52.16 million from Rs 89.88 million in the previous year.

    FM Radio segment’s operating revenue increased 25.5 percent to Rs 100.75 million from Rs 80.26 million in the previous year. The segment’s operating profit more than doubled (increased by 2.5 times) to Rs 33.93 million from Rs 13.51 million.

    BAG Films Leasing segment revenue declined 14.1 percent in FY-17 to Rs 2.50 million from Rs 2.92 million in FY-16. Leasing segment operating loss reduced in FY-17 to Rs 31.97 million from a loss of Rs 38.38 million in the previous year.

    MUMBAI: In a major industry move, RK Arora, who is credited with building brands in the news broadcasting space, has been roped in as chief executive officer (CEO) of News Nation Network. He has a standout track record, result-oriented approach and has a deep understanding of the news ecosystem.

    He will report to the Board. Arora has an experience of 24 years and brings with him industry expertise and formidable credentials.

    In his new role, Arora will spearhead overall responsibility of strategic and operational management of News Nation Network and will oversee the Group’s portfolio of assets spanning news broadcasting.

    Arora was, until recently, a Group CEO of ITV Network and managed group’s six news channels –NewsX, India News and four regional news channels in the Hindi heartland and was instrumental in the company’s transformation and its unprecedented growth within a short span of two years. Prior to ITV Network, he was the CEO with BAG Network (News 24, E24 and Darshan 24). He was also associated with India TV since its inception.

    Rajiv Mishra joins Samsung as VP- media

    NEW DELHI: Senior journalist Rajiv Mishra, who held the post of chief executive officer of Lok Sabha for about three years until he left some months ago, has been appointed as vice president (media) of Samsung’s south west Asia office in Gurgaon.

     

    Mishra began his 21 year long career from Hindustan Times and later switching over to electronic media.

     

    He began as manager – programming in Star, then joined Zee TV as senior manager – corporate, Reliance Infocomm as general manager – corporate affairs, News 24 (BAG Films and Media) as COO and director and India News as COO. He launched Times Now of the Times of India group in USA as India Now while working for CineMaya Media of USA.

     

    Mishra was with Lok Sabha TV as CEO in an official rank and status of additional secretary.

     

    He is also the founder and first president of Association of Radio Operators for India (AROI). AROI is the industry representative body of all FM Radio Broadcasters/Stations of India. He also founded Association of Regional Television Broadcasters of India.

    Ajit Anjum set to join India TV as managing editor

    MUMBAI: Ajit Anjum, current managing editor of News 24 is set to take up the same position with one of the leading Hindi news channels- India TV.

     

    Anjum is currently serving his notice period with News 24 and according to sources, will be joining India TV from 1 August. This place has been vacant since former managing editor Vinod Kapri left the channel after a long stint of six years.

     

    Meanwhile, News 24 deputy director for news Deep Upadhyay will oversee operations.

     

    With an experience spanning more than two decades, Anjum has had stints with Aaj Tak, Chauthi Duniya and Amar Ujala.

  • Rajesh Jathar joins News 24 as regional ad sales head

    MUMBAI: B.A.G Films and Media Limited has announced the appointment of Rajesh Jathar as regional head (corporate advertising sales, West and South) of its broadcasting arm News 24.

    On the new appointment, B.A.G. MD Anurradha Prasad said, “We are confident that Jathar vast and varied experience in the field of media and entertainment would add to the growth of the company.”

    Jathar has more than 14 years of experience in both print and television advertising sales. Prior to B.A.G., he was working with NDTV Media. He has also worked with Zee, the TV Today group and Hindustan Times, at various positions.

    BBC News launches a user generated show in the UK

    MUMBAI: UK pubcaster the BBC has announced that its channel BBC News 24 has launched an all user-generated news programme featuring material sent in by the public.

    Your News, which has commenced a pilot run will be an all user-generated news programme – featuring the stories, features and video proving most popular with viewers on TV and the web.

    BBC News 24 controller Kevin Bakhurst said, “Your News will make use of the huge range of material being sent in to the BBC by the public, some of which has already provided real newsgathering value. It will reflect the stories catching our audience’s eye and talk to them directly about the issues they feel really matter.”

    The new programme draws on the wealth of user-generated content sent into the BBC every day by viewers and readers of the BBC News website. The website the pubcaster says receives around 10,000 emails a day with story suggestions, comments and pictures from the public.

    Your News, presented by Richard Bilton and reporter Laura Jones, will run weekly features with a wide range of audience driven content.

    These include:

    Your Story – weekly news report unique to Your News covering an issue raised by a member of the public. Saturday’s programme features the case of a man who contacted the BBC when, after his wife’s death, he made the discovery that the hospital in which she died did not have a licence to perform a tissue donation according to her wishes.

    Your Questions – Your News reporter Laura Jones sets out to investigate answers to the questions sent in to the BBC by the public on issues, local or national, that concern them.
