    Top Publishers adopt Taboola’s New Header Bidding Solution

    Mumbai: Taboola has announced Taboola Header Bidding—a new capability that expands on the native bidding service that was originally launched in April 2022.

    Publishers using Taboola Header Bidding generate incremental revenue from existing display ad inventory, and to date, top publishers like McClatchy, Ströer, iMedia, and many others are already live.

    With Taboola Header Bidding, advertisers can now use Taboola’s advanced AI and unique first-party data to seamlessly connect with 500 million daily active users across IAB-standard display placements on its large publisher network. This gives advertisers working with Taboola even more visibility in prominent locations across trusted publishers in verticals like local news, sports, entertainment, finance, and more.

    Publishers benefit from Taboola Header Bidding by driving significantly more monetisation with their existing display ad units. Using this product, Taboola’s publishers can tap into unique native advertising demand by working with 15,000 direct advertisers, immense first-party data, and AI. This helps publishers increase auction density across display ad inventory, resulting in a stronger and healthier display marketplace.

    Ströer is the first sales house in the DACH region to use Taboola’s Header Bidding capabilities and, in doing so, continues its use of a variety of Taboola offerings. Most recently, the companies announced an extended partnership through 2028.

    Whatsapp set to roll out new multi-device feature

    Mumbai: Instant messaging app, WhatsApp is set to roll out a feature that would allow users to log into the messaging platform on their personal computers without being online through their smartphones.

    The feature is currently at the beta testing stage on selected Android and iOS devices, and has been made available in the settings menu of the app. Users will have to manually opt in for the feature.

    Presently, in order to use WhatsApp Web, which is the personal computer version of the messaging service, users have to keep their phones online. With the potential roll-out of the latest feature, users will no longer need to keep the phone near their laptop and make sure it is online before using WhatsApp Web. The linked personal computer would be able to receive and send messages for up to 14 days. This, if the user decides to not manually log out.

    The feature will be useful when users lose their smartphones but require Whatsapp to stay connected.

    Facebook’s expanded transparency features will roll out in Q2 2020

    MUMBAI: Facebook is updating its Ad Library to increase the level of transparency for political ads and provide users with more control over the ads they see. The platform will be adding a feature that will help to view audience size in the ad library, will provide better ad library search and filtering, control over and see fewer political ads.

    The Ad Library is a unique tool to shine a light on political and social issue ads — a public archive that allows people to see all the ads politicians and campaigns are running on Facebook and Instagram and those that have run in the past. “This is an important step in making political ads more transparent and advertisers more accountable: the public can see every ad served to anyone in an easily searchable database,” said Facebook.

    Facebook launched the Ad Library in May 2018 and over the past several months they have spoken to dozens of political campaigns, activists, NGOs, nonprofits and volunteers about its policies for political ads. “Two themes we heard was that first, people want more transparency over who is using ads to try to influence voters and second, they want more control over the ads they see,” said Facebook.

    The platform further announced, “The expanded transparency features will roll out in the first quarter of 2020 and will apply in all countries where we facilitate “Paid for by” disclaimers on ads. We plan to deploy the political ads control starting in the US early this summer, eventually expanding this preference to more locations.”

    It also said, “There has been much debate in recent months about political advertising online and the different approaches that companies have chosen to take. While Twitter has chosen to block political ads and Google has chosen to limit the targeting of political ads, we are choosing to expand transparency and give more controls to people when it comes to political ads.”

    “We don’t think decisions about political ads should be made by private companies, which is why we are arguing for regulation that would apply across the industry. The Honest Ads Act is a good example — legislation that we endorse and many parts of which we’ve already implemented — and we are engaging with policy makers in the European Union and elsewhere to press the case for regulation too. Frankly, we believe the sooner Facebook and other companies are subject to democratically accountable rules on this the better,” said Facebook.

    WhatsApp adds multi-calling feature

    MUMBAI: WhatsApp has finally launched multi-calling feature for both voice and video calls. It is being rolled out to Android and iOS users globally. Facebook confirmed the group video calling feature at its annual F8 conference. 

    Once a call gets connected, a new ‘add participant’ icon at the top right corner of the call screen can be clicked to add more participants from the contact list. The icon gets disabled after a third participant is added. Calls can have up to four participants including the person who started the call.

    Earlier WhatsApp had to face criticism for issues related to fake news and disinformation that has been rampant on the platform in the last couple of months. It added a new feature in July which puts a limit to the number of messages forwarded by a user.

    Any message that is forwarded without editing will display the word ‘forwarded’ and it also restricted sending such messages to more than five contacts at a time.

    The Facebook-owned service has come under harsh criticism from even the government of India regarding several of its features.

    MUMBAI: The world’s largest video streaming platform ‘YouTube’ is now experimenting with new feature known as Explore that will help the users to find the new channels and videos while browsing on mobile.

    The Explore feature will pop up as a “tab” at the bottom of the app’s home screen for a select one per cent of iOS users, according to YouTube’s director of product Tom Leung, and host of the platform’s Creator Insider channel.

    Commenting on this development, Leung said “Explore is designed to help you to be exposed to different kinds of topics, videos, or channels that you might not otherwise encounter. But they are still personalised, but they’re still personalized, so they are still based on your viewing activity”.

    Twitter provides a similar service which lets users scroll through different types of feeds that aren’t necessarily full of people that they follow.

    Instagram introduces a new feature- ‘You’re All Caught Up’

    MUMBAI: Instagram has come up with a new feature named ‘You’re All Caught Up’ that informs the user when they have seen every posts on their feeds in the last 48 hours. A green tick appears on the screen along with the message ‘You’re All Caught Up’ helping the user to have a better understanding of their feed and to inform them that they haven’t missed recent photos or videos.

    This update is a supposed antidote to Instagram’s algorithmic which shows posts in a non-chronological order which was launched about two years back and was widely criticised. People objected that the feature will use information based on user’s interaction in the app to plan its feed which will spoil the usual way of scrolling through the app.

    This feature is also supposed to help users to manage the time that is spent on the app and stop them from ‘over programming’. Not just this, Instagram also might be working on a ‘Do Not Disturb’ feature to help the users.

    Facebook  CEO Mark Zuckerberg  has been vocal about prioritizing well-being over profits, to the point that the network reduced the prevalence of viral videos in the feed so much that that app lost 1 million users in the U.S. and Canada in Q4 2017. “I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down. If we do the right thing, I believe that will be good for our community and our business over the long term too,” said Zuckerberg as quoted by Techcrunch.

    Apple is going to introduce Screen Time in iOS 12. Google’s Dashboard, which is going to be a part of Android P. These features are going to let the user track their usage patterns and understand which apps are taking up most of their time.

    WhatsApp adds new feature, allows only admin to send messages in group

    MUMBAI: Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp has recently announced that the app will now have a feature in the group settings, which will allow only admins to converse in a group chat.  The company announced the update in a Friday blog post. WhatsApp is trying out a number of small additions to give admins greater control of their respective groups as the company was recently spotted testing a feature that allows senior group admins to strip newer admins of their status in the settings option.

    Members will not be able to participate in any group discussions or chats after the feature has been enabled by the admin. None can respond to the messages but they can only read the message sent by the admin. Until now the feature was in works, WhatsApp has now officially launched the feature for all, including users India.

    “Today, we’re launching a new group setting where only admins are able to send messages to a group. One way people use groups is to receive important announcements and information, including parents and teachers at schools, community centres, and non-profit organizations. We’ve introduced this new setting so admins can have better tools for these use cases” reads the blog.

    To enable the setting, WhatsApp users on Android and iOS have to update their apps to the latest version. Then they can open a group chat and click on “Group Info,” tap Group Settings and find the “Send Messages” option and then select “Only Admins.” This will allow only group admins to converse while other participants will receive a footer which reads that the admin has disabled others from chatting in the group.

    Over the last few months, the company has added new features that improve the groups’ experience. Some of these include group descriptions, a catch up feature, and protection for people who are being added repeatedly to groups they’ve left.
