    Neil Nitin Mukesh-Puja Gupta starrer Shortcut Romeo to be screened at Cannes Filmfest

    NEW DELHI: Shortcut Romeo, Hindi remake of a popular Tamil film, will be among the new Indian films to be screened at Cannes in the festival‘s 66th instalment.


    A new romantic thriller, it has been produced, written and directed by southerner Susi Ganeshan under his own banner, Susi Ganesh Productions. Much of the present film was shot in Kenya in East Africa.


    This is a remake of his own 2006 Tamil box office hit “Thirittu Paysale”. The current Bollywood version stars Bollywood hearthrob Neil Nitin Mukesh as Romeo, with Puja Gupta as his love interest. Ameesha Patel appears in a negative role.


    Ganeshan has already helmed half a dozen features in Tamil since 2002 and is a disciple of senior Tamilian director Mani Ratnam, who currently works mostly in Mumbai and is regarded as one of the most original and creative of all Indian directors whatever the language.

    Neil Nitin Mukesh to play a cop’s role in ‘Dussehra’

    MUMBAI: Neil Nitin Mukesh, who played the role of a retro gangster in his previous film, will be seen essaying the role of an IPS officer in his forth coming film ‘Dussehra‘.

     

    Starring opposite Mukesh is actress Tena Desae who plays the role of senior IPS Officer. This is the first time for both Neil Nitin Mukesh and Tena Desae will be playing the role of a police.

     

    An excited Neil says, “It‘s a very unique storyline and am thrilled to be a part of this film. Ever since I heard the story line, I have ardently been researching life of bureaucrats, to give more depth to my character in the film. I have the utmost respect for our Indian Bureaucrats.”

     

    Dussehra is a political thriller based on a true story of crime and politics. It is a story of a genuine cop who gets stuck in adverse circumstances. The film evolves from the backdrop of a politically destabilised state.

     

    Dussehra, which goes on floor on 11 March, is being produced by Aparna Hoshing under the banner of Rash Productions, and is being directed by Manish Vatsalya, whose previous work includes ‘Jeena Hai toh Thok Daal‘ under Rash Productions. It is slated for release this Dussehra.

    MUMBAI: Akhsay Kumar-starrer Special 26 opened slow on Friday but as the word of mouth spread, the film started picking up from Friday evening itself and went on to consolidate over the weekend. The film‘s performance is at its best at premium multiplexes.

    The film‘s cost for Indian theatrical rights is about Rs 320 to 340 million and should face no problems making it. The film has been appreciated for all round performances by the artistes as well as for its climax. The film collected Rs 265 million for its first weekend. Some extra benefit is expected on Valentine‘s Day.

    Remo D‘souza‘s ABCD: Any Body Can Dance with no stars on the billboards had an excellent opening, in fact better opening response than the star cast film Special 26. ABCD has greatly drawn the youth and its choreography has been much liked by the youth. The film had a wonderful weekend and collected Rs 184 million for its first three days. The film should get a major boost on the Valentine‘s Day.

    David with Neil Nitin Mukesh in the lead continued to do poor collecting a mere Rs 35 million for its first week with as much as Rs 15.8 million coming from the Bombay Circuit.

    Mira Nair‘s much talked about Midnight‘s Children has been rejected by moviegoers. No amount of controversies and staying in the news has helped the film which collected just Rs 12.5 million to show for its first seven days.

    Vishal Bharadwaj‘s Matru Ki BIjlee Ka has added Rs 1.2 million to its collections in its fourth week taking its tally to Rs 393.7 million.

    MUMBAI: The much talked about Vishwaroop has not been able to turn the media attention into box office advantage. With a poor opening of Rs 19 million on Friday, the film improved a little on Saturday and peaked on Sunday with Rs 32.9 million to end its opening weekend with Rs 76.6 million. The film is not expected to sustain through the week. The fact that it has been a rainy Monday in Delhi NCR and UP further dampens its prospects in the regions.

    Neil Nitin Mukesh starrer David has not been appreciated and has managed to make just about Rs 20 million in its opening weekend. The film was facing discontinuation from many screens across the board.

    Listen Amaya has not been able to find audience, while Mai has been rejected outright by moviegoers.

    Abbas Mastan‘s Race 2 has benefitted as the poor run of the oppositions helped it have a reasonably decent collections. The film closed its first week with Rs 707.3 million and went on to add another Rs 155 million for its second weekend.

    Inkaar collected about Rs 10 million in its second week taking its tally to Rs 87.5 million.

    Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola collected Rs 7.5 million in its third week to take its total collection to Rs 392.5 million.

    No show of Neil Mukesh-starrer David in Dubai

    MUMBAI: Reliance Entertainment‘s Neil Nitin Mukesh-starrer David has not released in the UAE. The thriller was due to release on Thursday.

    The Hindi language film is still under review, while the film‘s Tamil version, with a slightly different cast and storyline, was released as scheduled.

    Media Content Tracking Department director Juma Obaid, “The Hindi version of David has extra scenes that we have to see closely. We will need to watch it again.” His team is scheduled to review the film again today.

    Cinemas in Dubai confirmed that tickets were available for the Tamil-language film while the Hindi version has been taken off.

    Directed by Bejoy Nambiar, the thriller traces the lives of three individuals by the same name David. The three stories are set in three different time periods.

    In the Hindi version, Mukesh plays a gangster, whose story could be a part of the objected portions. But the Tamil version starring actors Vikram and Jiva does not feature the character.

    MUMBAI: The filming of Eros and Next Gen Films‘ 3G, to be shot in the Fiji Islands shortly, will have a multiplying effect on the Fiji economy.

    Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum feels the shoot of the film in the island is a great opportunity for his country. He was speaking at the launch of the film, a thriller based on mobile telecommunications.

    According to Khaiyum, numerous jobs have been created for locals including a crew of 40 who will assist the production team on the sets and another seven Fijians who will also play roles in the film.

    The shooting of the film, directed Vikram Rajani, will begin by the end of May, said acting chief executive of the Fiji Audio Visual Commission (FAVC) Florence Swamy. The 30-day shoot will be held mostly in the Western Division with a few scenes in and around Sigatoka and a couple in Suva.

    The film will cost around seven million Fiji dollars (US $4 million) and the shoot will begin by the end of May. Two more films under the same production with a joint budget of around 14 million Fiji dollars (US $8 million) will be shot in Fiji soon.

    The films are expected to be released in at least 700 to 800 screens in India and are going to be distributed to countries worldwide, according to the producers.

    The lead roles in the film would be played by renowned Neil Nitin Mukesh and fashion model and actress Sonal Chauhan.

    Meanwhile, the local government has announced a rebate scheme of 47 per cent to attract filmmakers to the island nation as this would be a great opportunity for locals.

  • Neil Nitin Mukesh is the face for Volkswagen’s Think Blue initiative

    MUMBAI: Volkswagen India has roped in Neil Nitin Mukesh as the brand ambassador for its Think Blue initiative.

    The Bollywood actor will support the campaign for a year.

    Mukesh had first lent his support for Volkswagen at the recent Auto Expo in New Delhi, encouraging people to take their first step towards a greener future by planting saplings at home.

    Volkswagen group sales head of marketing and PR Lutz Kothe said, “Neil and we first met in New Delhi during one of our Think Blue initiatives at the Auto Expo and we realised Neil is extremely forthcoming about his support towards such campaigns besides his love for the latest in automotive technologies which was a perfect fit with the Brand‘s philosophy.”

    The Think Blue mindset has three main pillars: environmentally friendly solutions and products, individual behaviour and environment-related initiatives that goes beyond products and technologies. Volkswagen intends to adopt Think Blue as a consistent approach that will be reflected in the brand‘s actions and communication, the car major said.

    MUMBAI: Abbas-Mustan’s upcoming release seems to have the biggest release in New Zealand.

    It is said that the distributors there have released the film with 11 prints in two of the biggest cinemas –Event and Hoyts-in the country

    It is said that the craze for Players has grown since it was extensively shot there. It is because of this that the film has garnered tremendous mileage.

    Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Bobby Deol, Sikander Kher, Aftab Shivdasani, Bipasha Basu and Sonam Kapoor, the film is
    based on the 2003 Hollywood blockbuster, Italian Job.

    Forum Films, the distributor of Players in New Zealand, hopes of a huge opening in New Zealand.

    The earlier biggest release in New Zealand was that of Don2 that released with 9 prints.

    Telugu remake of Johnny Gaddar in offing

    MUMBAI: Remember the 2007 made Neil Nitin Mukesh debut film Johnny Gaddar. The film, not only got mixed reviews but got back the thriller genre back to Bollywood.

    The film, now to be made in Telugu, will be produced by Kubera Cinemas and directed by Lakshmikanth Chenna.

    Newcomer Krishi Arimanda will play Neil‘s role, while other actors include Sai Kumar and Gracy Singh.

    “Keeping new trends in cinema in mind I chose a subject that would attract the present generation and not just make a regular movie with three fights. So, we bought the official rights of Johnny Gaddaar from Reliance Entertainment.” Deepak Baldev of Kubera Films said in statement.

    Johnny Gaddar, directed by Sriram Raghavan, was a crime thriller depicting the story of a group of five men involved in gambling and other illegal businesses.

    The shoot of this untitled remake is already under way.

    MUMBAI: Players, the official remake of the 2003 made Hollywood film The Italian Job, is all set to release on 6 January 2012.

    The Italian Job revolves around the story of six thieves, who plan to pull off the heist of their lives by creating a largest ever traffic
    jam in Los Angeles.

    The filming of Players started on 9 November last year and has been shot in Goa, Wellington and Auckland in New Zealand. It already has had a long schedule in Siberia, St Petersburg and other locations in Russia.

    The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sikander Kher, Bipasha Basu and Sonam Kapoor. The film also stars Omi Vaidya and Sikander Kher in major roles.
