    BBC Worldwide Latin America appoints David Hanono as general manager sales & digital

    MUMBAI: BBC Worldwide has recently appointed of David Hanono as General Manager Sales and Digital for Latin America & US Hispanic with effect from 21st July 2016 .

    In his new role, Hanono will oversee all content sales for BBC Worldwide Latin America & US Hispanic which includes Digital, TV and format sales alongside his ongoing responsibility for Ad sales across the region.

    Hanono has extensive experience in digital TV and wider media and technology industry, having worked in global media organizations for 20 years.

    Commenting on David’s appointment, Anna Gordon Executive Vice President and Managing Director for BBC Worldwide, Latin America & US Hispanic, said: “For this expanded, strategic sales role, which is responsible for the whole of sales across BBC Worldwide Latam & US Hispanic, David has ideal mix of top quality functional experience and superb sector knowledge. It is essential to have a leader who can integrate the team and drive new commercial opportunities. David is an excellent asset to the BBC Worldwide leadership team.”

    Since 2013, David has led BBC Worldwide’s Digital business in the region, where he has succeeded in delivering double digit growth in programme sales and expanded the portfolio of BBC customers in the region particularly in OTT. David also presided over the launch of BBC Worldwide’s first children’s application, CBeebies, which launched last year in Latin America and US Hispanic.

    Hanono, previously Vicepresident Digital Business Development and Ad Sales for BBCW Latin America and U.S. Hispanic, has broad experience in the media, telecommunications and entertainment industries, spanning several countries across Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.

    Prior to joining BBC, David held key positions at Univision, Lucent Technologies and NEC amongst others. Based at BBC Worldwide’s Regional headquarters in Miami, Hanono will start his new role immediately.

    MUMBAI: CNN International has announced that IT and network technology company NEC will sponsor its viewer response initiative, ‘Impact Your World.’ The sponsorship takes effect from September 2008 and encompasses new weekly on-air segments and vignettes across CNN International’s global network, reaching more than 230 million households and hotel rooms, in addition to the initiative’s web site at www.cnn.com/impact. 

    Impact Your World is CNN’s audience empowerment initiative, which allows CNN viewers and users to take action on and respond to the news they consume. With Impact Your World, news is no longer passive; ‘Impact’ buttons on selected CNN.com stories link people directly to resource pages showing how they can help charitable organizations in categories including Refugees & Homelessness, Poverty, Health and Natural Disasters.

    In addition, new weekly on-air vignettes highlight stories that empower CNN’s global audience to effect real change.     MUMBAI: Under a new CNN initiative sponsored by NEC corporation, six men and women, wanting to make a difference in the world, will blog and post videos of their lives and jobs.

    Titled Be the Change, it aims to harness CNN International’s global reach, multiplatform services and cutting edge technology to reach deep into the lives of ordinary citizens doing extraordinary things around the world to benefit others.

    NEC’s sponsorship of Be the Change runs for a year from this month and is set to be broadcast worldwide while featuring online at www.cnn.com/bethechange

    The work of the six people and the global platform the initiative provides is expected to inspire others to make their own impact through similar ventures.

    CNN Asia Pacific VP news ad sales William Hsu says, “Be the Change is a fantastic initiative and we are delighted to have the support of NEC in this groundbreaking venture.     AOL announces closed captions for online video

    MUMBAI: US internet service provider AOL is testing closed captions for streaming news content from CNN that will enhance the online media experience for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

    Captioned CNN video content will be available throughout the AOL network, including the AOL service, the free AOL.com Web portal and the AOL Video portal.

    AOL says that it is the first consumer Internet service to provide captioned online videos, has offered closed captioning since 2003 for select content on its KOL service for kids aged 6 to 12, including Princess Natasha the original cartoon series created exclusively for KOL. AOL also offered synchronized text transcripts for CNN news updates that were limited to the text of a news anchor’s script.

    Now, content from CNN, including videos for the day’s headlines, current events, new stories, entertainment and more, will be manually captioned to ensure all of the audio in a video stream is completely accessible. AOL plans to provide closed captioning for additional video content over the coming months.

    AOL has been working on this initiative with WGBH’s Media Access Group, the organisation behind the development of technologies and services that make all forms of media accessible to the 36 million Americans who rely on captioning or video descriptions. This work was also supported by a grant to WGBH from NEC Foundation of America, which supports programmes with national reach and impact in assistive technology for people with disabilities.

    AOL says that its captioning initiative is an extension of AOL’s Accessibility Policy, a company wide priority that aims to address and meet the technology needs of people with disabilities.

AOL delivers an array of products and services that together provide a complete video experience, including compelling video programming, best-in-class video search and a high-quality video playback experience for all Internet consumer
