    NDS joins Anytime Technology partner programme

    MUMBAI: Anytime, Asia Pacific’s leading Video on-Demand (VoD) channel, today announced that NDS, the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, is the newest member of the Anytime Technology Partner Program.

    The Anytime Technology Partner Program is a collaboration between Anytime and the world’s leading VoD technology vendors. It aims to reduce the time to deploy secure, quality, VoD services in Asia Pacific. The Program allows technology vendors to come together to ensure process compliance and data flow compatibility from publishing, to billing API’s and royalty reporting. NDS Group is a NASDAQ-listed company; the largest shareholder in NDS is News Corporation.

    NDS solutions enable broadcasters, network TV operators and content providers to profit from the deployment of digital TV technologies including innovative solutions for digital video recorders, interactivity, secure broadband, home networks and content on the go.     The Anytime Technology Partner Program has two levels of agreement – Technology compliance, and Cooperation & Co-marketing. If accepted into the Program, vendors can work with Anytime to ensure their products, services or solutions, comply with the highest industry standards for VoD content delivery.

    The Program is open to STB manufacturers, middleware vendors, Conditional Access and DRM hardware and software makers, VoD server manufacturers, and Systems Integrators. It is vendor-agnostic, ensuring that Telcos, ISPs and Digital Cable providers receive impartial advice and information on VoD delivery technology, the release adds.

    Hathway launches interactive gaming service

    MUMBAI: Hathway Cable & Datacom has launched an interactive gaming service on its digital cable television services.

    Launched on 10 July, the gaming feature would initially be available to all Hathway digital subscribers on a free of cost basis.

    For the gaming technology, Hathway has selected NDS, a global provider for open end-to-end digital pay TV solutions. Once the digital box is activated, the customer needs has to select the gaming icon on the screen and access the available games such as Lilly Lovers, Stubby the Sock Gnome and Sumo Temple. Many more games will be added in the course of the year, according to an official release

    MUMBAI: News Corporation‘s NDS Group has announced that a leading digital satellite pay-TV broadcaster in Romania, DTH Television Group has contracted NDS to deploy a full end-to-end system including NDS VideoGuard conditional access, MediaHighway middleware and EPG on their newly launched digital pay-TV platform, Boom TV. NDS is the provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV.

    The platform had launched in May to homes in Romania. The NDS VideoGuard will protect all content delivered to new digital subscribers.

     

    DTH Television Group chose the full end-to-end system to secure their premium subscription content and will also take advantage of new services offered by NDS, including interactive TV applications, informs an official release.

    NDS Group chairman and CEO Dr Abe Peled said, “We‘re delighted that DTH Television Group has selected our proven solutions for their new service, Boom TV. This is an important contract for NDS as Romania, which has a population of over 40 million, is a significant TV market with the highest TV viewing figures in Europe by a wide margin.     MUMBAI: Intel Corporation and NDS Group plc., have announced a trial system to demonstrate the TV and video services for fixed WiMax technology.

    Using the WiMax IEEE 802.16-2004 standard and the soon to be ratified IEEE 802.16e, Intel and NDS will also collaborate on industry and market development activities. The companies will engage in demonstrations to service providers and the industry to show how WiMax can offer more than broadband access with pay-TV services.

    The pre-WiMax implementation takes place at Intel’s Wireless Competence Center in Kista, Sweden and demonstrates the first system to show WiMax TV services including live TV, VOD and integrated electronic program guide (EPG) delivery to an Intel Centrino mobile technology based notebook over 802.16-2004 and 802.11.

    The current demonstration uses fixed pre-WiMax equipment to deliver content to the customer premises equipment (CPE) and then WiFi to send content to the notebook. Companies intend to enhance the system to support 802.16e standard in the future and to make sure that security requirements protect the interests of content providers in an aim to demonstrate pay TV services delivery over mobile WiMax to Intel based PDA and notebook devices.

    NDS VideoGuard conditional access protects the business and content of the service provider and:-

    >Prevents the valuable TV channel offering from being received by subscribers who have not paid for it.

    >Protects content delivery efficiently using content entitlements, authorizations and tier packaging.

    >Enables content purchasing scenarios (e.g. Pay-Per-View)
    >Supports Video-On-Demand by enabling secure content purchasing, protecting content delivery sessions, and enabling content business scenarios like DRM.

    Hathway expands in north, acquires 51% in a Kanpur cable network

    MUMBAI: Hathway Cable & Datacom is expanding its cable TV network in the northern region through the acquisition route. After buying a controlling stake in two local cable TV networks in Chandigarh and Mohali, the multi-system operator (MSO) is expanding its footprint in Kanpur.

    Hathway has acquired 51 per cent equity in JMD Sherawali Network, a leading cable operator in Kanpur, for an undisclosed amount.
    “By reaching out to Kanpur, it will be an important start for us into the core Uttar Pradesh market. JMD Sherawali Network has a 60 per cent market share in Kanpur. We have bought 51 per cent stake in the network,” said Hathway Cable & Datacom CEO and MD K Jayaraman.
    The MSOs are selectively expanding their cable networks. Last year, rival MSO Siticable bought out Indian Cable Net from the RPG Group to become the dominant MSO in Kolkata. Hathway has swung into action this year with the first acquisition made in February.

    With this acquisition, Hathway will be operating its cable TV services in 14 cities. Hathway’s cable TV is already available in cities across the nation including Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Nashik, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ludhiana, Vijaywada, Jalandhar and Mysore. The MSO is currently offering digital cable services in New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

    Besides the analogue business, Hathway is also making efforts to rolout its digital services. The MSO will be launching gaming on its digital cable TV services by April-end. For the gaming technology, Hathway has selected NDS. Though available free, the commercial launch is likely to take about a month.

    “The gaming feature will be available to all our digital customers initially on a free of cost basis from end of April. Many more games will be added in the course of the year,” said Jayaraman.

    NDS, SES Americom team up to offer secure IPTV solutions for telcos

    MUMBAI: Digital pay-TV technology solutions provider NDS has entered an agreement with SES Americom, a leading satellite operator and services provider in North America, to support their IP-Prime IPTV distribution solution with NDS Synamedia.

    Synamedia is a secure IP solution for two-way IPTV network operators. IP-Prime is a centralised, satellite-delivered IP television delivery system that permits telcos to bundle traditional standard and HD programming on a single line with their voice and internet services.

    The new offering enables telecommunications companies to offer secure, premium TV services to their customers. SES Americom will deliver up to 300 channels encoded into MPEG-4/H.264 via their IP-Prime platform, offering telcos a more efficient and robust transmission path.

    The Synamedia solution, integrated with NDS VideoGuard content protection and digital rights management, will offer SES Americom a secure platform for the delivery of multi-channel pay-TV and video on demand (VOD) services to customers using a broadband IP connection.

    Based on the proven NDS VideoGuard conditional access solution, NDS Synamedia protects content at all stages of delivery — from the broadband access point through the last mile to the IP consumer device, such as a set-top box or digital video recorder (DVR). Once content is received inside the home, VideoGuard protects the valuable digital content from piracy, whether it is stored locally or routed through a home network.

    The solution for SES Americom features VGS, a secure headend-based content protection solution from NDS. The hardware-based solution does not require a smart card in the consumer device. The decryption capability is embedded within the device’s standard video processor chip, which communicates securely with the NDS VGS network servers. NDS has worked closely with major chipset manufacturers to develop these secure video processors that can communicate with secure headend servers, providing strong content protection over two-way networks.

    The new technical approach used in the VGS content protection solution is stronger than software-based and hardware-assisted solutions, because the content is decrypted entirely within the secure processing blocks in the processor.

    Using NDS VGS technology, two-way networks provide a number of benefits, including safe network environment for authorisations, simplified upgrades to the system for enhanced functionality and security, and reduced set-top box costs. There is no security information stored in the set-top when it is switched off.

    SES Americom’s IP-Prime platform offers two delivery solutions; one path delivers the secure video content to the Telcos for their distribution to consumers. Alternately, the IP-Prime content can be passed through directly to subscriber homes via secured set-top boxes. The NDS solution is integrated into both IP-Prime options.

    The solution includes NDS MediaHighway middleware and EPG. Serbia Broadband is Serbia’s largest cable operator.

These operators rely on NDS to manage their TV services because it is the most secure solution. This gives the operator access to the best available content which attracts and retains subscribers.
