    Sanjay Kapoor joins PVR Board as Director

    NEW DELHIPVR Cinemas, the largest cinema exhibition company in India, has announced the appointment of Sanjay Kapoor as the Director on the Board of PVR with effect from 31 January.

     

    Sanjay brings with him expertise and understanding to the rapidly growing and changing Indian market. With an experience of close to three decades, global business acumen, perspective and intelligence, Sanjay will advise the PVR Company to achieve greater milestones.

    “We are pleased to welcome Sanjay to our board of directors”, said PVR Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Bijli. “His brand expertise, experience in building large service businesses, digital penchant and consumer insights will be invaluable as we continue to expand our business of exhibiting quality cinema in the country. Our board is looking forward to the perspective Sanjay will provide to our strategy and operations as we continue to focus to give the best to our audience.”

     

    On accepting the new responsibility, Kapoor said, “I am very excited to contribute to the largest multiplex chain in India. PVR is the most respected name in the film exhibition industry and I look forward to sharing my experiences and contributing to the growth of the leading multiplex chain in India.”

     

    With a robust career spanning over 28 years, Kapoor, an Ex-CEO Airtel (India & South Asia), has been instrumental in shaping the growth and diversity of India’s largest integrated telecom service provider and held key leadership positions in the Bharti group till 15 May 2013. Prior to joining the Bharti Group, Sanjay worked with Xerox India as Director – Operations Support.

     

    Kapoor’s leadership extended well beyond the confines of Airtel and he elevated himself as an industry spokesperson globally. For more than 13 years he has played an active role in various industry forums like CII, COAI and NASSCOM. He has been a Board & Executive committee member of GSMA and the Board member of Indus Towers. Presently, Sanjay is a board member of Bennett, Coleman & Co.

     

    Kapoor holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management (UK) and is a Graduate of The Wharton Advanced Management Program. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce ( Hons ) from Delhi University.

    eBay India and Nasscom launch eBay eCommerce Guide

    MUMBAI: The online marketplace eBay India and Nasscom (National Association of Software and Services Companies) unveiled the ‘eBay eCommerce Guide’.

    Launched by Nasscom president Kiran Karnik and eBay India Marketplace country manager Gautam Thakar at the Nasscom eCommerce seminar, the eBay eCommerce Guide aims to spread awareness and educate internet users on the various elements of eCommerce.

    According to an official release, the eBay eCommerce Guide spells out the basic business models of eCommerce, benefits to users, profiles of sellers & buyers & industry statistics. In addition, there are chapters on technology trends and resources which will assist consumers in understanding the newer developments in eCommerce.

    eBay eCommerce Guide includes eCommerce – Anytime, Anywhere, Anything Marketplace, eCommerce- Benefit from It, Reach of eCommerce in India, Real People in the e-World, Guidelines for Online Transactions, Technology and Trends, Resources and Guides and Glossary of eCommerce Terms.

    “eCommerce is of growing importance and online market places can be of immense help, especially to the SME sector and rural craftsmen who cannot afford other expensive channels of marketing,” Nasscom Karnik says. “eBay India as a pioneer of a new paradigm of ecommerce into India, has provided a revenue generation platform for thousands of Indians sellers both in India and globally. I congratulate eBay on their initiative of bringing out a eCommerce Guide, and hope that this will encourage even more Indians to adopt eCommerce.”

    Ficci conference ends

    The Ficci’s International Conference on The Business of Entertainment ended today with a concluding speech by Tapan Sikdar, the Minister of Communications.

    Earlier in the day, discussions were held on the content aspect of the entertainment industry. The session was headed by the noted film maker Shyam Benegal. The next session covered the film production and marketing, and the international status and presence of Indian films abroad. The internationally acclaimed director and the maker of the Oscar winning film “Elizabeth” spoke about issues involved about Indian films in the international market. Before this Harish Thawani, chief of Nimbus Communications projected his views about the television and film sector. He displayed his views about importance of synergy between the television and the film industry. The session enlightened the audience about the need of marketing of Indian films and globalising the industry.

    The post lunch session was about the music industry in India. It covered issues from piracy, internet, IPR, radio and the general scenario of music industry in India. The concluding session was about convergence and the regulatory framework to enable it in India. The session was headed by the Nasscom chief Dewang Mehta and the panel of speakers included Sony Entertainment Television chief Kunal Dasgupta, MTV India chief Alex Kuruvilla, MD Modi Entertainment Network MD Ajay Nijawhan and UTV head Ronnie Screwvala. The session demanded a clear and comprehensive regulatory policy for the success of convergence in India which is a entertainment software heaven.

    The effort by the Ficci was quite admirable as it enlightened quite a few and brought the whole entertainment industry together.
