This Koffee will be served at 11 pm

MUMBAI: If you thought Salman Khan’s confession about being a virgin on Koffee with Karan was a bit much, wait till you see this one…

Buzz is: an upcoming episode of the celebrity chat show featuring Freida Pinto and Nargis Fakhri has turned out so steamy that the channel has decided to serve the ‘adults only’ brew at 11 pm instead of the usual 9 pm slot.

While viewers wait for the drama to unfold on 2 March at 11pm, indiantelevision.com did some finding to know the motive behind the move.

Revealed Star India head of content – English GECs Rasika Tyagi: “The girls have been very naughty! Staying within the IBF guidelines, we didn’t want to air the episode before 11 pm. The alternative would have been to edit out a lot of the conversation, which we chose not to do. The episode is worth staying up late for.”

Apparently, both actresses were very forthcoming in their answers to Karan’s queries about love and sex. With Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) guidelines clearly stating that any person or group of persons can file a complaint against any programme broadcast on any TV channel if it violates social mores pertaining to sex and nudity, violence and crime, and gambling among others, channel heads were not comfortable airing the episode at the regular time. Also, Karan’s tweeting a picture of the duo saying: “Just shot the most hysterical Koffee episode with 2 very naughty girls…Freida Pinto and Nargis Fakhri!!!” didn’t help the situation.

It was a tough call but the channel decided to play by the book. Tyagi explained: “My point of view is that it will be counteractive to viewership to push the original slot from 9 to 11 pm and it may also have a viral impact for the following weeks. But we play by the rules.”

Star India general manager – English Channels Kevin Vaz echoed similar sentiments. “At the end of the day, we play by the law of the land. There is no two ways of us pushing the envelope or doing something which is not acceptable by the people. We follow very strict SMP guidelines. After the finish of the shoot of the episode, looking at some of the words and language that were used, we thought this should be telecast at late prime-time,” he said.

So have the viewers been informed? Post the episode this Sunday with Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla as guests, there will be on-air promos and in-show integrations communicating the change in timing. “We will have a ticker running to support the announcement and we will also be pushing this further through our digital and PR efforts,” informed Tyagi.

The vacant 9 pm slot will see a repeat of the episode featuring Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. “This was the funniest and yet, the most hard-hitting episode we’ve had on Koffee with Karan this year. On one side, we had crazy funny antics from Ranveer and on the other, we had a heart-wrenching story from Arjun. It’s a great story to re-live and that’s the one we will air on 2 March before we air the fresh episode of Nargis and Freida,” said Tyagi.

As for the Freida and Nargis episode, the uncensored edition will be telecast at 11 pm on 2 March while an edited version will be aired the following Sunday at 7 pm.

Poster of Varun Dhawan’s next released

MUMBAI: The official poster of Varun Dhawan’s next Main Tera Hero was released today. The film is directed by his father- David Dhawan- and produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor and will see Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri alongside the Student of the Year actor.

Since the father-son duo are teaming up for the first time for this film, Main Tera Hero is being touted as one of the biggest entertainers of the year. In fact, the actor is gearing up to promote the film well.

Along the lines of the film’s first poster that looks quite quirky, the actor was recently spotted at Mumbai’s Crawford market dressed as a vegetable vendor.

He tweeted: “No no it’s just a thought guys I became a patiwala for a day and worked in Crawford market it really moved me. forget movies and heroes the real heroes are these people who toil everyday to earn their bread and butter its really really difficult.”

We wonder if it a part of promoting the movie that is set to hit the screens on 4 April, 2014.

‘John Abraham reacts strongly to ban of Madras Cafe in Chennai

NEW DELHI: Actor John Abraham has reacted strongly to the ban in Chennai of his film ‘Madras Café’, which released today with a U/A Certificate.

He said in a statement, “Madras Café is a credible film made with a lot of heart and gives audiences something novel to be entertained about, vouching and encouraging cinema.”

He therefore added, “I would like to urge all of Chennai to support Madras Café as a film and release it as it is.”

Viacom Motion Pictures, JA Entertainment and Rising Sun Films’ political thriller Madras Cafereceived a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification – minus cuts.

Director Shoojit Sircar said he was “happy that the censor board had passed the film without any cuts giving it a U/A certificate.”

He added, “This is a very special film for us and I am glad the audiences will get to experience this political thriller.”

Starring John Abraham, Nargis Fakhri, Rashi Khanna, Leena Maria and ad gurus Agnello Dias and Piyush Pandey, Madras Cafe set with the backdrop of an inter-country relation, revolves around John Abraham, an intelligence officer uncovering the workings of secret operations.

It has been presented by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and JA Entertainment and produced by Rising Sun Films and JA Entertainment.

Abraham had specially worked to get a lean look for this film to suit his role.

  • Madras Cafe: Served ice cold

    Madras Cafe: Served ice cold

MUMBAI: As a producer, John Abraham tried a different theme with Vicky Donor and it worked. This time his banner again attempts a film off the beaten track with Madras Cafe. It is about a RAW agent on the trail of LTF (LTTE) to eliminate its leader but who instead stumbles upon a plot to assassinate an ex-prime minister of India (read Rajiv Gandhi). Only, films about RAW and espionage are not a novelty anymore and what’s more, in the absence of a valid cause or tradition about stories of Indian spy networks’ success, they don’t interest people; D-Day, a worthy effort of a RAW mission, is a recent example.

John Abraham is drawn for a mission in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, by RAW. His mission is to either create an alternative for or to eliminate Anna (read Prabhakaran) the LTF chief. This because the PM of India wants peaceful settlement and democratic set up restored through elections in the province of Jaffna. Abraham is on the job but somehow his position is always compromised and the LTF is a step ahead of him. In his pursuit of Anna, Abraham is captured but saved by the army. Eventually, in a major ambush on the LTF camp, Anna is presumed dead. However, he is not and starts his attacks on Lankans and the Indian Peacekeeping Force with more venom and brutality. This leads to the resignation of the Prime Minister (this seems to be the humour angle in the film: an Indian minister resigning, a PM at that!)

But, the film is not about LTF at all as you realise later. It is about a plot to kill the, by now, ex-PM. The people behind the plot meet at Madras Cafe in Singapore and London and even talk over open phone lines. Everything that is secret is known by all except Abraham, the RAW agent! He is clueless most of the time and a journalist from UK, Nargis Fakhri, and her personal sources know everything there is to know about the plot.

Producers: John Abraham, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Ronnie Lahiri.
    Direction: Shoojit Sarkar.
Cast: John Abraham, Nargis Fakhri, Raashi Khanna, Siddharth Basu, Piyush Pandey.

Who wants the ex PM killed and why? Looks like an international corporate cartel wants the ex-PM killed because he believes in peace in Jaffna while this cartel wants LTF to win and control the area after which they can have a free run on the province and thereby control the whole region which in turn would pose a great threat to India’s security! That sounds like a lot of cock and bull.

The cartel makes things easy as their messages fly high across countries which the Indians decode. The plot to kill the popular ex-PM is revealed. The super agent Abraham makes it a one man mission to save him since the ex-PM would not change his itinerary despite a threat to his life. Sadly, Abraham is late by about 30 feet to save the ex-PM but a safe distance enough to survive the bomb himself. Because the bomb is designed to only kill people in the range of twenty to twenty five feet. Of course!

He spends the next three years hitting the bottle and making occasional visits to a local church till he is ready to tell the whole story of how the PM could have been saved to the pastor.

Madras Cafe is an unconvincing, soulless film in which there is nothing for the viewer to identify with. The film lacks in drama, thrill and romance, and songs have been purposely avoided. The film rests solely on Abraham’s shoulder and he falls short by yards. His expressions refuse to change whether he has just found his wife killed or learnt a major secret. Nargis Fakhri has a brief role and she is okay. Direction is uninspiring. Rest of the aspects are passable.

Madras Cafe has opened to a weak response and chances of a pick up look poor.

John Abraham gets lean look for his home production Madras Cafe

NEW DELHI: Known for his well-proportioned figure, Bollywood’s quintessential poster boy John Abraham was forced to sport a leaner frame to get into the skin of his character of a special agent against gangsters in Viacom Motion Pictures, JA Entertainment, and Rising Sun Film’s political thriller, Madras Cafe.

The director Shoojit Sircar wanted the actor to sport a body which was more real and naturally lean as opposed to a bulked-up body, and so John adopted a special diet and fitness routine to look the part.

Says Sircar, “Yes, audiences will see a leaner John Abraham since I did not want him to particularly stand out in a crowd and he needed to look like one of them; hats off to his dedication, since he worked really hard on his physique for the film.”

Talking about the warm equation he shares with his film’s lead, the director added, “John and I are good friends…We have similar vision when it comes to films and are planning a few more together – We do not interfere in each other’s space and enjoy working together”.

Says producer and actor John Abraham, “Madras Café has been my dream project and we have been in discussions for years over the subject – We have worked extremely hard on the film and are satisfied with the outcome – What I can assure you is audiences will be talking about the film even after they’ve stepped out of the theater… it is a high-on-content, thought provoking film”.

The film is scheduled to release 23 August and also stars Nargis Fakhri, Prosenjt Chatterjee, and Rashi Khanna. The film is political spy thriller set against backdrop of the Sri Lankan Civil War of the 1990s.

  • Fashionandyou.com launched its first commercial on Social Media

MUMBAI: Lifestyle and fashion e-tailer fashionandyou.com launched its first advertising campaign on social media, featuring Nargis Fakhri who is also a brand ambassador of the website.

The video is centered around the new age couple Nargis Fakhri (a shopaholic) and her husband Suspi Singh (rightly named after his suspicious character).

“Daisy (Nargis Fakhri) is hooked on to fashionandyou.com for bringing in a humungous variety of fashion and lifestyle products online. With over 15 new sales every day, 700+ brands and that too at up to 80 per cent off, her closet sees new entries almost every day. Suspi Singh on the other hand doubts the reason for increase in the number items in her wardrobe, and concludes that she is probably having an affair; with all the new additions being lavished upon her, by her secret lover.”

The goal of the ad campaign is to highlight the offerings given by the website.

Fashionandyou.com CEO Aasheesh Mediratta said, “The digital medium today has reached a point wherein we can measure the response and the feedback from our customers through social media. We are extremely psyched about having a growing network of over two million fans on social media; therefore we took a different route for channelling our ad campaign through a unique medium rather opting for traditional media.”

Fakhri said, “People today are extremely style conscious and often switch between several roles, from work to social events to family all in a span of a few hours… and we do it with élan. We‘ve evolved into a race that is brand and quality conscious while also expecting the best service and value for money. I believe I represent this consumer: I am style conscious, I choose to make a statement in the way I carry myself and I appreciate the best shopping experience.
