    DD allocates sum of Rs 11.22 crore for north east states during 2016-17

    NEW DELHI: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressing greater concentration on helping the northeastern states, Doordarshan has sanctioned a sum of Rs 11.22 crore this month for the year 2016-17 for twelve kendras in north east India.

    The amount has been given from the reserve fund of DD’s IEBR (internal extra-budgetary resources), according to a directive issued by the DD Directorate on 1 September 2016.

    All the kendras have been instructed by the Directorate to keep the expenditure within the limits set for the year and send a Monthly Expenditure Statement by the fifth of the next month.

    The Kendras are Aizwal, Agartala, Dibrugarh, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohim, Shillong, Silchar,.Tura and the Programme Production Centre in Guwahati.

    Despite announcements to the contrary, there was only a marginal increase in the budget ananoucement for Information and Broadcasting Ministry in February this year in the lump sum provision for projects/schemes for development of North-eastern areas including Sikkim to Rs 80 crore against Rs 75 crore last year

    Three new products developed by C-DOT launched on its Foundation Day

    NEW DELHI: Communications Minister Manoj Sinha today expressed the hope that 100,000 Gram Panchayats (GPs) will be connected through Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) by March next to set up a network infrastructure to serve the rural masses.

    Delivering the key-note address here at the C-DOT Foundation Day, he said everyone was working with zeal to achieve the target of connecting 2,50,000 Gram Panchayats with Broadband Network within the stipulated timeframe which is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    Sinha praised C-DOT for launching 18 products and 56 technology transfers, which he said should be taken to Century and also lauded the role of C-DOT for its stellar role in providing security solutions including cyber related.

    Stressing the need for innovation as India cannot afford to emulate the Developed Economies due to limited resources, he urged C-DOT to find new invention, new research and new technology and to give World Class products for achieving the vision of Transforming India through Digital Revolution.

    Sinha said if India lags in catching up with emerging technologies in the coming 15 to 20 years, the very existence of the country will be at stake. He exhorted officials and other stakeholders to “Walk the Talk” and underlined that it is our bounden duty to digitally empower the huge chunk of population particularly in rural areas who are still deprived of IT revolution. He added that Digital divide should end as fast as possible.

    Telecom Secretary J.S.Deepak said as India is on the verge of Data Revolution, the future of C-DOT is very bright as it is involved in making multi-terabit router, providing smart city solutions and security solutions to the Defence and Civil sectors. He urged C-DOT to partner with PSUs and dream big to make India truly a Digital India.

    The Minister also launched three new Products developed by C-DOT on the occasion- WDM PON (WDAN) and Samvad App.

    NEW DELHI: India sent its largest contingent to the Rio Olympics 2016, with even Sports Minister Vijay Goel being present there.

    But clearly dismayed by the results, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced setting up a Task Force to prepare a comprehensive action plan for effective participation of Indian sports persons in the next three Olympic games 2020, 2024 and 2028.

    In the announcement made at the meeting of the Council of Ministers, Modi said the Task Force will prepare overall strategy for sports facility, training, selection procedure and other related matters.
    He said that the Task Force would be set up over the next few days.

    The Task Force will comprise of members who are in house experts as well as those from outside.

    DIPP wants to launch startup TVshow & channel

    MUMBAI: Well, well, what will happen next under Indian prime minister Narendra Modi. The Indian leader has been at the forefront of declaring that innovation and business enterprise from young Indians is what India needs to drive it to the super power status that it deserves. Hence, the initiative Start UP India, Stand UP.

    Now the department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP) is gearing to give this entrepreneurship drive a further impetus.

    The government body which comes under the ministry of commerce & industry has written to the information & broadcasting ministry (MIB) that it would like to launch a channel meant for entrepreneurs and start ups, along the lines of the Kisan channel which the government introduced for farmers and villagers.

    It is working on creating a TV programme along the lines of Shark Tank, the American on-television start-up funding television format. The show will be aired on national broadcaster DD and an outside agency is to be given the task of selecting the entrepreneurial ideas from daring entrepreneurs. It will also be assigned the task to assemble a panel of venture capitalists to grill the wannabe entrepreneurs and provide them with funding on live TV.

    The finalists of the show will be showcased at the StatUp Fest next month in Hyderabad.

    NEW DELHI: The Government has decided to undertake a cadre restructuring of the Indian Information Service (IIS) Group ‘A’ with an aim of better functioning of media and communication arms of government.

    This decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.

    The restructuring will involve addition of two posts at apex level, five at Higher Administrative Grade and 19 posts at Senior Administrative Grade level with matching reduction at other levels.

    The restructuring will address the problem of existing stagnation in the IIS Cadre and will improve the career prospects of IIS officers.

    The announcement after the cabinet meeting said the Cadre review exercise will result in better functioning of media and communication arms of the government.

    The Cadre review comes in the backdrop of ongoing efforts to expand the outreach of pro-people policies of the government and the need to disseminate the information of such measures which have grown manifold in the recent years.
