    Marar replaces KS Sarma as Maa TV CEO

    MUMBAI: Maa TV Network, which owns and operates Telugu general entertainment channel Maa TV, has appointed Sharradh Marar as its chief executive officer. He replaces former Prasar Bharati CEO KS Sarma who has been in charge for only a few months.

    Marar has a long association with the film industry and is said to be close to superstars Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna. Late last year the company restructured its shareholding with Chiranjeev, Nagarjuna and Matrix Laboratories Ltd (a listed company) promoter N Prasad acquiring 60 per cent stake.

    Sarma was then roped in to head the company. He will, however, continue as advisor to Maa TV Network. “I have taken over as CEO and Sarma will stay as advisor to the company. My immediate focus will be to consolidate our channel’s position and try out ways to increase our market share,” says Marar.

    Marar was heading the southern operations in Amitabh Bachchan’s company ABCL. Later he floated a media company, South Parade, that was into buying and branded content. He has also produced TV serials for Gemini and has 15 years of TV exposure.

    MUMBAI: Shemaroo Video has released DVDs and VCDs of Robbery. The film stars Nagarjuna and Sonu Sood. Unemployed graduates Akhil (Nagarjuna), Sonu (Sonu Sood) and Sasha (Anushka) meet in Mumbai. They are forced to become thieves for survival before they make it their profession.

    They pull off some breathtaking robberies.Sasha is the sister of Sonu. She loves Akhil. But Akhil does not have the same feelings for her. He treats her just like a good friend. Sasha dies in an unfortunate incident and Sonu holds Akhil responsible for her death. They become enemies.

    Akhil starts a cab service. He falls in love with a doctor called Siri Valli (Ayesha Takia), who is the foster sister of Sonu Sood. When Sonu realizes that Siri Valli is in love with his arch rival Akhil, he asks her to put an end to the relationship. Before long they unravel the truth and all is well.

    MUMBAI: Hyderabad will have its second private FM radio channel with Music Broadcast Pvt. Ltd.’s (MBPL) Radio City 106.4 FM going on air on 30 May.

    Recently, Radio Mirchi kicked off in Hyderbad.
    The station was launched today by South superstar Nagarjuna, who unveiled the Radio City logo and frequency.

    The launch of Radio City 106.4 FM is supported by 360 degree marketing campaign. Some of the off-air initiatives to connect with the listener include road shows, human inflates at high density areas, Radio City booths at malls and multiplexes, on-ground contests & events, Radio City branded buses, cavalcade around the city.

    Radio City debut in the city with an exclusive tête-à-tête with Nagarjuna and RJ Vamsee on his early morning show Kusalama…Hyderabad.

    According to an official release, Radio City 106.4 FM programming is an outcome of an extensive and in-depth research undertaken by the industry experts. This has resulted in a host of customized Hindi and Telugu programmes reflecting the ‘true Sound of Hyderabad’.

    Telugu stars, Matrix Labs promoter to take 60% stake in Maa TV

    MUMBAI: The Telugu television market is poised to become the new hot spot with superstars Nagarjuna and Chiranjeevi acquiring stake in Maa TV Network Ltd, the company which owns and operates a Telugu general entertainment channel.

    Along with Matrix Laboratories Ltd (a listed company), promoter N Prasad, Nagarjuna and Chiranjeevi will hold 60 per cent of Maa TV in a purchase deal worth Rs 400 million, a source close to the deal tells Indiantelevision.com. A formal announcement will be made soon.

    “In the revised capital structure of Maa TV, the three of them will have equal stake. The company will have a fresh infusion of Rs 500 million with the original promoter putting in Rs 100 million,” the source says.

    Maa TV founder-promoter Murali Krishna Raju’s holding will come down to 20 per cent after the restructuring. Raju, along with his associates, held around 80 per cent stake in the company. His individual holding was 50 per cent, the source adds.

    The fresh capital will be used to revamp the channel and fund other expansion programmes. “The whole business plan is being reworked. The company is finalising its strategies,” the source says.

    The restructuring will involve hiring of professionals including a chief executive. While Nagajuna and Chiranjeevi will also provide their creative inputs, Prasad has come in as a financial investor. “This will mark Prasad’s first investment into media,” the source says.

    Maa TV has been in search of funds for a long time and was earlier in talks with Star India and Sun TV. The entertainment channel was banking on movies, events and interactive mobile-based shows to drive in numbers but late last year introduced soaps in its programming lineup.

    Star India is planning to launch a Telugu channel in January, a market which is dominated by Sun Group’s Gemini TV and ETV Telugu. Zee made its entry in the South market with its Telugu entertainment channel in May 2005.
