    Prasar Bharati appoints Gaurav Dwivedi as CEO

    Mumbai: Prasar Bharati on Monday announced the appointment of Gaurav Dwivedi as chief executive officer (CEO). The appointment will be effective on the date he takes over the office and will last for five years.

    Presently, Dwivedi is in charge of MyGov, the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY). Additionally, he handles the government’s citizen engagement platform.

    “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 4 of the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990, read with sub- section (4) of Section 4 and sub-section (2A) of Section 6 of that Act, the president, on the recommendation of the selection committee, is pleased to appoint Gaurav Dwivedi, IAS (CH:95) as the executive member (chief executive officer) in Prasar Bharati with effect from the date he assumes charge of the office, for a term of five years,” the MIB said in a statement.

    “The terms and conditions of his appointment shall be governed by the provisions of the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990, and the rules made thereunder, as amended from time to time,” the statement added.

    Dwivedi is a Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer from the 1995 batch. He has worked in Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh in various capacities.

    He has also taught at the IAS Training Academy, LBSNAA, Mussoorie.

    He has received the prime minister’s award for administrative excellence.

    Since the launch of the Digital India initiative by the Central Government, companies, as well as individuals, are undertaking various exercises to empower Indian citizens through technology and bring about innovation. Intel and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) have introduced IFDIC to help foster this culture of innovation in India.

    Dwivedi has held important positions in the government. He was the Director of the Department of Information Technology, having served as a Senior Deputy Director in the Indian Administrative Services. Dwivedi has been continuously supporting the Innovate for Digital India Challenge from its inception.

    NEW DELHI: Observing that the digital age is going to dominate the future, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has said the Digital India Programme is a giant leap in the endeavour to create a digitally empowered and knowledge-based society.

    Inaugurating an Orientation Programme on ‘Digital India Implementation’ for Members of Parliament in Parliament Library Building yesterday, she emphasized that many may not be well acquainted with Digital India as it was a relatively new phenomenon but it was imperative that Members as people’s representatives gain the right knowledge through this familiarization programme for the benefit of people at large.

    Mahajan further observed that Digital India campaign launched in July 2015 seeks to ensure that the Government services are made available to people effectively by improving online infrastructure, by increasing internet connectivity and by making the country digitally empowered in the field of technology.

    She hoped that the domain experts in the field would focus on the key components of Digital India Framework, MyGov – Creating Participatory Digital Democracy and Digital Village – connecting Rural India to Digital Services for the Members.

    Mahajan stressed that our Parliament is taking pro-active measures in adopting and applying information technology in its functioning. She said that an e-Portal for Lok Sabha Members was launched on 17 July 2016 to help the Members to discharge their parliamentary works more efficiently. It will be instrumental in minimizing the use of paper and help to convert Lok Sabha into a paperless institution in future, she added.

    Electronics & Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad; Minister of State of P P Chaudhary; Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training (BPST) Honorary Advisor Raghunandan Sharma and Lok Sabha Secretary-General Anoop Mishra were also present at the inaugural function. The Programme was organized by BPST, Lok Sabha Secretariat in collaboration with the National Institute for Smart Government.

    NEW DELHI: Asserting the government’s ambitious Digital India programme is empowering people, Communication & Information Technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said JAM () today reaches 310 million (31 crore) beneficiaries with 59 schemes involving Rs 61,822 crores.

    Addressing a Vikas Parv event organized by his ministry in Mumbai, he said India’s IT and IT enabled services has footprint in 80 countries covering 200 cities. He said India accounted for 56 percent of global IT outsourcing.

    The Minister said the Direct Benefit Transfer has helped save Rs 36,500 crores. Prasad said all the schemes are being implemented on digital technology platforms.

    The Minister said digital technology had also promoted ‘jan bhaagidari’ (people’s participation), where two million people interact with the government on the MyGov platform giving suggestions and sharing their thoughts.

    He said the government was able to auction spectrum worth Rs 1,09,000 crores without fingers being pointed at it. Jan Dhan – Adhaar – Mobile

    Prasad said the Public Sector Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited which had posted a loss of Rs 8,000 crore in 2014 had managed to post an operating profit of Rs 672 crores and its mobile phone subscription has shot up from 800,000 to 2.3 million (23 lakh)

    NEW DELHI: President Pranab Mukherjee today said the architecture and design of the National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN) is being revamped to rapidly take broadband connectivity to Indian villages under Bharat Net.

    In his address to the joint sitting of both houses of Parliament on the first day of the Budget Session, the President said, “Transparent and efficient auction of spectrum has fetched highest ever price of about Rupees one lakh ten thousand crore.”

    He said policies like Spectrum trading and sharing have been finalised for optimum utilisation of resources.

    Mukherjee added that the recent interventions and subsequent rationalisation of duty structure in mobile handset manufacturing industry has led to near doubling of mobile handset production in the current year.

    According to Mukherjee, setting up world-class infrastructure for Electronics manufacturing across the country remains a priority for the Government. As many as 29 Electronic Manufacturing Clusters are under development.

    The country recorded the highest ever software exports during 2015. “By spreading the network of Common Service Centers and setting up BPOs in small towns and linking land record modernization with the use of space technology, my Government is taking the benefits of Digital India to common citizens. The Digital India Programme will give a big boost to citizen empowerment and knowledge economy,” the President added.

    Building upon the success over the past year, the Government’s endeavour is to scale new heights in Space. “Focus will be on completing the constellation of the Indian navigational satellites in 2016 to cater to indigenous navigation and location-based services,” Mukherjee said.

    Noting that “radio has once again emerged as the people’s medium,“ Mukherjee said the good response to the successful and transparent bidding for the first batch of private FM Radio for phase III “augurs well for the medium.”

    He noted that establishment of new radio stations has received a fresh impetus. The bidding of the first batch of private FM Radio for phase III comprised 135 channels in 69 cities.

    The Government had taken several measures to improve the quality of governance. People’s participation in policy making through initiatives like MyGov had taken firm roots, he said, adding that the Government had taken up an initiative for providing 500 e-governance services through Public Private-Partnership in 12 states of the country.

    Noting that youth are the future of the country, Mukherjee said ensuring Yuvaon ko Rojgaar through massive employment generation is a top goal for the Government. “We are driving job creation through an integrated set of initiatives including Make in India, Start up India, Mudra, Skill India, etc.”

    A series of reforms have been initiated to help convert job seekers into job creators. The Government has launched the Start-Up India campaign, which would deepen, expand and support the innovation eco system in the country.

    The Government’s innovative initiatives have helped India jump up 12 places in the latest rankings by the World Bank on Ease of Doing Business. “Notably, the Make in India initiative has achieved a 39 per cent increase in FDI inflow despite an adverse global investment climate.”

    Noting that sports is the best way to Swasth India, he said the Government “successfully hosted the 12th South Asian Games from 5 to 16 February, 2016 at Guwahati and Shillong in which more than 3500 sportspersons from all the SAARC countries participated. The games were the biggest ever sporting event in North East India.”

    Contest for PMO mobile app launched; winner gets trip to US

    NEW DELHI: A contest has been launched for development of a mobile app for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).  

     

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his recent address at the 25th foundation day of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) had announced the intention to launch a mobile app for PMO. 

    The Government’s citizen engagement platform MyGov will host this contest in association with Google. The contest will be organized over the next three months in three areas of ideation, wireframe development and app development. The best app will be then presented to the PMO. The team developing the wining app will get a chance to visit the headquarters of Google in the United States. 

    The contest is open for all citizens of India above the age 18 years, who are registered on MyGov (https://mygov.in). Participants can submit their entries on the contest page. Each phase will be assessed by an independent jury constituted by MyGov. 

    Speaking on the launch, Communication & Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said views of the citizens collected through the MyGov and other forum have been incorporated into railway and Union Budgets. 

     

    The need to tackle benami properties and the idea for introduction of sovereign gold bound scheme have come through some suggestions from the people. He said this Government wants to take follow up action on ideas obtained through crowd sourcing and also wants to use social media for public good. 

    Deputy secretary R S Sharma gave an overview of the Digital India programme, whose aim is to first digitally connect all citizens of the government and then digitally empower them in participative process of policy making and being continuously informed of various government initiatives and programmes. 

    MyGov CEO Gaurav Dwivedi charted out the evolution of MyGov, since its launch on 26 July last year and laid out some key features of the newly released MyGov Version 2.0. Google India managing director Rajan Anandan, who is MyGov’s partner in the contest, spoke of Google’s commitment to partner India’s digital drive at multiple levels.
