    Chrome DM week 37: English Movie emerges as top gainer

    MUMBAI: After seeing a marginal growth in week 36, various genres in the broadcasting segment have witnessed noticeable growth in week 37. English movie genre has become the top gainer in week 37, 2020 of Chrome Data Analytics and Media data. The genre has grown by 2.57 per cent.

    Among English movie channels, Romedy Now has gained the highest OTS with 48.3 in the six metros market. OTS is the actual census-based percentage connectivity of a channel spread across 81 million homes, as reported by Chrome DM, across the analogue cable, digital cable, and DTH.

    This week, English GEC has acquired the second position on the top gainers list with a growth of 2.14 per cent in the six metros market. In this genre,  Comedy Central has gained the highest OTS with 43.4 per cent.

    Among other genres, English News, Kids-All India, Music have seen growths of 1.02 per cent, 0.99 per cent, 0.62 per cent respectively.

    MUMBAI: On the occasion of the 74th Independence Day, The Music Composers Association of India (MCAI) will be gifting the nation a new rendition of the eternal Indian national song Vande Mataram, which was composed by Bankim Chandra. What makes the new composition unique and different is that it has been put together by 100 leading music composers across India at a time when the nation is battling with rising cases of Covid19.

    “The nation needs positivity and hope,” says Aashish Rego. “We have gone through some of the toughest times in a century. It was about 115 years ago that Vande Mataram became a clarion call that rallied Indians in their fight against British rule. We hope our version will galvanise all Indians together to emerge as a new rapidly rising nation in the spirit of Creation, Collaboration, Contribution and Celebration.It is time to move ahead as collaborators and not competitors as all 100 of us have done, in this song, to create something greater than the individual.”

    The song is conceived and composed by Aashish Rego with lyrics by Vipin Mishra and co-produced by Somesh Mathur and Justin-Uday Duo.

    Mumbai: India's No.1 music streaming app, Gaana’s annual report on the country’s music consumption trends registered an unprecedented demand for regional music. This genre accounted for more than 1 Bn music streams in Dec 2019, registering an incredible (8X) growth in the past 2.5 years – making regional music the most vibrant and potent genre in the country’s audio OTT market.  

    Currently regional music accounts for more than 35% OTT music consumption, with more than half of all users of regional music coming from smaller cities. Given the rising popularity of Punjabi, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam music across the country, the country’s audio OTT market is expected to grow to 600 million users in the next 3 years, buoyed by the surging interest in regional music consumption. Gaana Originals, Gaana’s initiative to promote regional non-film music also saw a sharp jump and now contributes more than 100 MN streams per month. The most notable song amongst the Gaana Originals was Lehanga by Jas Manak that topped all charts in 2019 and crossed 115 Mn streams on Gaana.
