    Cricket fever: Mumbai Indians to start streaming on Netflix from march 1, 2019

    MUMBAI: Netflix announced today that its unscripted sports docu-series, Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians will premiere on the streaming service on March 1, 2019. The docu-series will follow the Mumbai Indians on the road through the course of the 2018 IPL season, as they sought to defend their 2017 IPL crown. The docu-series is produced by Condé Nast Entertainment and the executive producers are Al Edgington, Joe LaBracio, Jeremy Finn, Jamie Stewart and James Maby.

    The series documents the unseen action, both on and off the field, starting with the 2018 IPL auction, when the entire team was re-organised, and closes with the end of their IPL campaign. It charts the emotional arc of the team, including the intense pressure the team faces with the weight of “Maximum City”, Mumbai’s millions of citizens on their shoulders. The docu-series documents highly personal and never-seen-before journeys of the young and talented team, led by captain Rohit Sharma, owners Nita and Akash Ambani, as well as the brilliance of their coach- Sri Lankan legend, Mahela Jayawardene.

    The series launches worldwide exclusively on Netflix on March 1, 2019.

    MUMBAI: This cricket season, Burger King has partnered with Mumbai Indians for its summer brand campaign ‘Great Burgers at Amazing Prices’. 

    In an endeavour to further strengthen the ongoing partnership and take it forward to a noble cause, Burger King took a step towards fulfilling its “Sixes for Kings” programme. At an event held yesterday in the Churchgate outlet, Burger King pledged three meals for every six hit by the Mumbai Indians to the children of Avasara Leadership Foundation.

    Uniting in the spirit of cricket, Burger King hosted an evening of fun and games for 30 children from Avasara Leadership Foundation with none other than Mumbai Indians legend Kieron Pollard, super player Mayank Markande and the most recent Man of the Match Ishan Kishan. The girls from the foundation were inspired after hearing the cricket stars speak about their own journeys towards achieving success. The engagement sought not only to motivate the young girls to pursue their dreams, but also leveraged the interest in IPL and cricket to raise awareness for the cause.

    Burger King India CEO Rajeev Varman says, “We are happy to have partnered with a team that shares the same passion as ours to drive a noble cause. Each six scored by Mumbai Indians has contributed in working towards a larger cause. Each six that sailed over the boundary will also help the girls believe that no boundary line is impossible to cross.”

    Burger King believes in setting up responsible models of social responsibility to contribute to the society. In addition to supporting Avasara, Burger King has in the past also supported Rooms to Read. Some of its initiatives include donating Re. 1 for the cause of girls’ education, encouraging in-store donations over the years, to name a few.

    MUMBAI: BARC India has launched a new subscription-based service called PreView for its subscribers, a custom product that gives BARC India subscribers a viewership report of a broadcast event three days after the telecast. BARC’s weekly data otherwise offers data every Thursday for the previous week-that is Saturday to Friday.

    The service showcases the strength of BARC India’s cutting-edge technology backbone. Star India has become the first subscriber to adopt the product. The broadcaster released the data of the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) opening match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians one week ahead of its actual release using the ‘PreView’ service.

    BARC India CEO Partho Dasgupta said, “BARC India’s goal has always been to deliver insights that help drive value for our clients. Our latest offering–PreView–is another product that will aid the growth of the industry. The fact that we are able to deliver viewership data three days after telecast is a testament to robustness and health of our panel and cutting-edge technology. This is in line with international standards.”

    As part of the service, BARC India will give the impressions, ATS and coverage data for 2 TGs: a. universe data (2+ for anyone market from the following—all India, all HSM or single state), and b. one custom-TG.

    MUMBAI: Star Sports in an endeavour to get fans closer to their favourite VIVO IPL team has partnered with Mumbai Indians to telecast MITV (Mumbai Indians TV) – a brand new show that will focus on telling player stories, team bonding, travelogues, insights into match strategy and profile the biggest fans of the team and its players. The show airs on Star Sports 1 Hindi and Star Sports 1 Hindi HD, with fresh episodes each day Mumbai Indians play at 8 am. 

    The inaugural episode, aired on Matchday 1 featured a sit-down interview with the talisman and captain Rohit Sharma as he spoke about Mumbai Indians’ preparation for the new season and previewed the first game against Chennai Super Kings.

    The second episode of the series that will go on air tomorrow at 8 am will feature an interview with hero from the first game – Mayank Markande talking about the people who helped shape his life and career and what influenced his decision to become a spinner. Besides Rohit Sharma will also share his thoughts on the team’s first away game, against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

    The show will conclude with former Mumbai Indians mentor Anil Kumble highlighting three things that Mumbai Indians need to watch out for against SunRisers Hyderabad.

    “Getting Mahi bhai’s wicket was obviously a great feeling. I have always idolised him and now to play in the same league as him is a dream come true.” Said an elated Mayank, who would like to pick-up from where he left in the previous game.

    Netflix announces unscripted series on Mumbai Indians

    MUMBAI: Netflix is targetting India’s love for two things – entertainment and cricket – in one fell swoop. The leading over the top (OTT) platform has announced the production of an original unscripted series revolving around the Mumbai Indians, three-time winner of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

    The platform has collaborated with Condé Nast Entertainment for the upcoming production. The show will be available exclusively on Netflix to over 117 million members in 190 countries around the world.

    Players from MI will be followed both on and off the field. The show attempts to take a deeper dive into the cricketing values and traditions of the successful IPL franchisee while it embarks on the eleventh edition to attempt a fourth win.

    “The series will bring viewers a never-before-seen look at the richest tournament in cricket–the world’s second most-watched sport–covering unseen aspects of the team, the compelling stories and characters that bind them with the vibrant city they call home,” an official statement from the company read.

    To make the local connection strong, the streaming giant is coming up with several Indian originals. Netflix India recently premiered Love Per Square Foot, a full-length Hindi romance. The platform will premier Sacred Games on 6 July. Now, it has chosen India’s most popular sport as the central theme for another original.

    MUMBAI: IPL 2018 fans better get ready as four of your favourite teams are coming to Snapchat. The social media platform has announced its partnership with four IPL teams–the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils and the Rajasthan Royals. The teams have joined Snapchat for Official Stories on 9 April 2018

    Snapchat has also released new creative tools for fans to support their teams and join the fun, such as custom stickers, filters and lenses. The lenses transform you into a helmeted player, with the team anthem playing in the background, and are available automatically in each team’s state or by scanning a Snapcode in Snapchat.

    “We love finding new ways to make Snapchat a great place for fans,” said Snapchat vice president of partnerships Ben Schwerin. “We are so excited for Snapchatters to be able to catch behind the scenes action by their favourite players, cheer their teams and share in the IPL 2018 frenzy with their friends and family!”

    This is Snapchat’s first partnership with India’s largest sporting event.     MUMBAI: With just two days for the gripping cricketing action-entertainment of the much anticipated VIVO IPL 2018 to begin, Star India has unveiled yet another feisty campaign; this time, it’s the ‘Best vs Best’.

    The narrative stokes passion of the fans around the high-octane action promised highly awaited opening clash between current champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), returning after two editions.

    MUMBAI: Goibibo, India’s online travel company has signed up with the IPL defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) as its principal sponsor for one year.

    The partnership would see a high-decibel 360-degree co-branded campaign. As part of this partnership, brand Goibibo will be sported on the back of the Mumbai Indians team jersey this season.

    MUMBAI: KXIP played its cards perfectly by making a bid of Rs 2 crore at the end of the auction for the distructive Chris Gayle.

    Sri Lanka fast bowler Dushmanta Chameera was snapped up by RR for his base price of Rs 50 lakh.

    The highlight of the day, however, was Jaydev Unadkat. The seam bowler became the most expensive Indian player after RR bought him for Rs 11.50 crore. Unadkat has over taken Manish Pandey and KL Rahul, who were bought for Rs 11 crore each on Saturday.

    Uncapped Indian spinners also got big money when RR bought Gowtham for Rs 6.20 crore. The other big buys on Sunday were Sandeep Sharma, who went to SRH for Rs 3 crore.

    Several international players failed to find takers on Sunday. All the unsold players can be brought back in the auction if franchises ask for them. Ben Stokes remained the top buy with RR buying the England all-rounder for Rs 12.50 crore and keeping him in the company of his former Pune teammates Steve Smith, Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Tripathi.

    Interestingly, CSK’s team composition is similar to what it was before the ban. They do, however, still lack the strike bowlers and struggled on Sunday to grab any of the attacking options. R Ashwin moved to Kings XI Punjab in the course of the bidding.

    There was some big money for India’s under 19 cricketers as Kamlesh Nagarkoti was bought for Rs 3.20 crore by KKR.

    Some of the big international names that went unsold were James Faulkner, Josh Hazlewood, Hashim Amla, Lasith Malinga, Ishant Sharma and Martin Guptill.

    MI retains Krunal Pandya for Rs 8.80 cr

    The first upcapped batsman in the eighth set was Surya Kumar Yadav with a base price of Rs 30 lakh. MI eventually snapped him up for Rs 3.20 crore.

    The highest big for an under 19 cricketer was Rs 3.20 crore, the player being Kamlesh Nagarkoti—his base price was Rs 20 lakh. Krunal Pandya was retained by MI for Rs 8.80 crore using RTM against RCB’s bid. His base price was Rs 40 lakh. Nitish Rana (base price Rs 20 lakh) went for Rs 3.40 crore to KKR. Darcy Short (Rs 20 lakh) went for Rs 4 crore to RR. Jofra Archer (Rs 40 lakh) was snaffled by RR for a not too insignificant Rs 7.20 crore.

    Current under 19 cricketer Shubman Ghill (base price Rs 20 lakh) went for Rs 1.80 to KKR. Mayank Agarwal, with a base price of Rs 20 lakh, went to KXIP for Rs 1 crore. Rahul Tripathi with a base price of Rs 20 lakh went for Rs 3.40 crore to RR. Manan Vora (Rs 20 lakh) went to RCB for Rs 1.10 crore.

    Indian under 19 captain Prithvi Shaw (Rs 20 lakh) went to DD for Rs 1.20 crore.

    RCB retain Yuzvendra Chahal

    The seventh set of the IPL auction included the spinners. The first spinner to go under the hammer was Piyush Chawla with a base price of Rs 1 crore and was sold to CSK for Rs 4.20 crore but KKR used RTM against the CSK bid. CSK, however, managed to grab the best deal of the day buy bidding Rs 1 crore for Imran Tahir. Karn Sharma with Rs 2 crore base price sold to CSK for Rs 5 crore. Rashid Khan, Afghanistan leggie with a base price of Rs 2 crore, was sold to KXIP for Rs 9 crore but SRH used their RTM to thwart the bid.

    New Zealand’s Ish Sodhi, Australia’s Adam Zampa and West Indian spinner Samuel Badri, all leg spinners, all went unsold.

    The most awaited spinner in this set, Yuzvendra Chahal (base price Rs 2 crore) was first bought by DD for Rs 6 crore but RCB used RTM to retain the player. Kuldeep Yadav, the Indian spinner went for Rs 5.80 crore to RCB but KKR used their RTM and retained the player. Amit Mishra was sold to DD for Rs 4 crore.

    In the fast bowlers’ set, Mohammed Shami, with a base price of Rs 1 crore, went to SRH for Rs 3 crore but DD used its RTM to grab the player. Kagiso Rabada, the South African tearaway, was retained by DD using RTM against CSK’s bid of Rs 4.20 crore.

    Mitchell Johnson, Josh Hazlewood go unsold

    Set six of the auction started with the bowlers and the first one on the list was Mustafizur Rahman with a base price of Rs 1 crore. He was sold to MI for Rs 2.20 crore. Mitchell Johnson and compatriot Josh Hazlewood with the same base price (Rs 2 crore)failed to evoke any interest from the franchises.

    Fellow Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins, however, was sold to MI for Rs 5.40 crore. RCB picked up India fast bowler Umesh Yadav (Rs 1 crore) for Rs 4.20 crore. Ishant Sharma, with a base price of Rs 75 lakh, also went unsold.

    RR pick up Sanju Samson for Rs 8 cr

    Set five of the IPL auction started with the wicketkeepers to be auctioned. A total of 11 wicketkeepers were on the list. Parthiv Patel, with a base price of Rs 1 crore, went unsold; England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow also went unsold. South African keeper Quinton de Kock went to RCB for Rs 2.80 crore (base price Rs 2 crore).

    Wriddhiman Saha, with a base price of Rs 1 crore, went to SRH for Rs 5 crore. India wicketkeeper and batsman Dinesh Karthik went to KKR for Rs 7.40 crore. Robin Uthappa with a base price of Rs 2 crore went to MI for Rs 6.40 crore but KKR used their RTM and snatched him from MI.

    Sanju Samson with a base price of Rs 1 crore went to RR for Rs 8 crore.

    CSK won the bid for Ambati Rayudu with Rs 2.20 crore. His base price was 50 lakh. Sam Billings (base price Rs 1 crore) and Naman Ojha (Rs 75 lakh) failed to get picked up by any of the franchises.

    Jos Buttler (base price Rs 1.50 crore) was sold to RR for Rs 4.40 crore. 

    IPL auction: RCB splurge Rs 7.4 cr on Chris Woakes

    RCB spent a whopping Rs 7.4 crore to acquire England fast bowler Chris Woakes. His base price was Rs 1.5 crore. Meanwhile, Yusuf Pathan was sold to SRH (base price Rs 75 lakh) and Collin Munro (Rs 50 lakh) went to Delhi Daredevils. 

    Both players were sold at an identical price of Rs 1.9 crore. Kedar Jadhav was bought for Rs 7.80 crore (Rs 2 crore) and former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson for Rs 4 crore (Rs 1.5 crore) by CSK.

    IPL auction: Manish Pandey sold to SRH for Rs 11 cr

    Manish Pandey, who has been in and out of the India set up, has been picked by SRH for Rs 11 crore, the same amount as KL Rahul. Meanwhile, Chris Lynn was sold to KKR for Rs 9.60 crore.

    The last cricketer of the set, Martin Guptill, went unsold.

    Indian cricketer S Badrinath said, “Joe Roots is not IPL material but Chris Gayle and Hashim Amla not being unsold was a big surprise.” Amla wasn’t bought despite making two hundreds in the last season of the IPL.

    Brendon Mccullum went to RCB for Rs 3.60 crore. He will fill the slot of Chris Gayle as the opener in the side. Jason Roy was sold to Delhi Daredevils for Rs 1.5 crore.

    IPL auction: Joe Root goes unsold in his first season

    Joe Root, the English captain went unsold in his inaugural season. The last marquee player of the first set was Yuvraj Singh, who was bought by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at a base price of Rs 2 crore. KXIP officials were happy with the deal.

    Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan was sold to SRH for Rs 2 crore. Glenn Maxwell, the distructive Australian batsmen, was bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 9 crore.

    Ex KKR captain Gautam Gambhir was sold for Rs 4.8 crore to Delhi Daredevils while New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was sold to SRH for Rs 3 crore.

    IPL auctions: Ben Stokes sold to RR for Rs 12.50 cr

    Mumbai Indians used the RTM for Kieron Pollard after Delhi Daredevils bought him for Rs 5.40 crore. Chris Gayle was unsold as no team started the bid. He can be presented again for the auction at the day’s end.

    Ben Stokes, the costliest player sold last year for 14.2 crore, is also the costliest player till now with Rs 12.50 crore to Rajasthan Royals (RR).

    Chennai Super Kings used RTM for Faf Du Plesis against Kings XI Punjab’s 1.60 crore bid.

    Ajinkya Rahane was retained by RR by using RTM against Kings XI Punjab’s Rs 4 crore bid.

    Mitchell Starc was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.40 crore; he was previously with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

    Former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Shrikant told Indiantelevision.com, “I’m not surprised seeing Chris Gayle not being sold. RCB may use RTM for KL Rahul and Yezuvendra Chahal. Chennai got the South African captain at a very good price.” at Star Sports Studio in Lower Parel Mumbai. 

    Star Sports has made a whole floor for the live studio feed for diiferent languages. Total of 12 studios that includes five major studios, five micro studios a fan box set-up and a cafe set-up.

    After a break of 15 minutes, Harbajan Singh was sold to Chennai Super Kings for his base price of Rs 2 crore.

    R Ashwin sold to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 7.60 crore

    The auction day has arrived and it’s time for the fans to be glued to their television sets and watch big money being spent on marquee players.

Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians and RR fought for the player, who was sold to Kings XI Punjab with highest bid of Rs 5.2 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad, however, used Right to Match (RTM) and grabbed the opportunity at the same price.

    R Ashwin was the second player to be auctioned at the same base price of 2 crore. The spinner was sold for Rs 7. 6 crore to Kings XI Punjab.
