Paisabazaar’s Credit Premier League (CPL) Blends AI spark a credit fitness movement

MUMBAI: Paisabazaar launched the Credit Premier League (CPL), a nationwide contest designed to make credit score tracking engaging, competitive, and fun, and to reward the country’s most credit healthy individuals. As part of the contest, Paisabazaar has introduced a playful Selfie Feature on its App that’s catching the attention of its consumers across the country.

The selfie feature allows users to take afun, animated selfie with their credit score displayed in a creative, Ghibli-style avatar. Paisabazaar has built the feature using the latest GPT-image-1 model for converting customer selfies into Ghibli-style images.

Once a consumer checks their credit score on the Paisabazaar App, they can instantly transform theirselfie into this unique, shareable digital artwork. The fun, Ghibli-style selfie can then be easily shared on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, encouraging friends, family, and others to participate in the contest and check their own credit scores.

A number of popular influencers, including Chetan Bhagat, RanveerAllahbadia and Rachana Ranade, have already participated in the contest, sharing their credit scores and their fun Ghibli-selfies on social media. Their participation has already generated widespread buzz, encouraging their followers to take part and check their own credit health.

In addition to making credit score tracking more interactive, the Selfie Feature is designed to spark conversations around financial health, helping raise awareness about the importance of credit score in a fun way.

Paisabazaar chief product officer Radhika Binani said, “At Paisabazaar, we have always focussed on Bharat’s financial wellness, by building awareness and engagement around key aspects like credit health. With CPL, we aim to build India’s first and largest credit score contest. A key aspect of the initiative is our use of technology, to encourage conversations around credit health.

Paisabazaar CTO Mukesh Sharma added, “Our technology-driven initiatives are designed to make the experience of checking and understanding credit scores more accessible and engaging. The selfie feature adds a layer of fun and social sharing to an otherwise serious topic, bringing credit conversations into the mainstream.”

  • NT Awards & Summit 2024 witness a great turnout

NT Awards & Summit 2024 witness a great turnout

MUMBAI: Some of the most illustrious  news TV industry professionals from rival channels  turned out at the Holiday Inn in Mayurvihar, Delhi on the evening of 14 December 2024 to attend Indiantelevision.com’s NT Awards 2024,  in its seventeenth edition.

The awards were preceded by the NT Summit which featured two panel discussions relating to how multiscreen viewing is  impacting journalists and editors and the second focused on technological challenges and solutions. The room was filled to capacity.

Moderated by Indiantelevision.com founder, chairman & editor in chief,  the panel had some wonderful insights being shared by  NDTV senior managing editor Vaishali Sood, Times Network senior executive editor  Madhavdas Gopalakrishnan, TV9 Bharatvarsh senior executive editor Nishant Chaturvedi, ABP News vice-president news & programming & senior anchor Chitra Tripathi, Collective Newsroom director of journalism and co-founder Mukesh Sharma and Zee News associate executive producer Anant Tyagi.

    First panel

The  panelists agreed that the arrival of multiscreen  viewing and the explosion in social media consumption has led to newsrooms being extra vigilant on how they source news leads from social media posts and how they ensure that the news they provide reaches out to different audience cohorts on different social media platforms and in formats that appeal to the viewers. This is especially in an era where trolling, fake news, lobbying and propaganda proliferation have become rampant  on social media.

The second session talked about integrated newsrooms, how artificial intelligence is going to impact news journalism standards both positively and negatively, and the new tools available to reporters on the field, to editors and anchors in the studio and to technicians and graphics producer to enhance the viewing experience for watchers at home. The panellists included India.com chief product & technology officer  Vivek Mishra, TV9 chief growth officer -broadcast & digital TV9 Network,  Times Network vice-president – technical & broadcast  operations Anil Mittal with the session being chaired by BCG partner Payal Mehta.

    2nd panel

TVU general manger Subodh Aggarwal  made a presentation about how news channels can Streamline media production with cloud based solutions.

The NT Awards was a moment of celebration for editors, producers, graphics and OAP teams reporters, anchors of prime time shows as the room filled to the capacity exploded with applause with the announcement of the nominees and winners names. The awards  recognised  good work in regional languages as well as in Hindi and in English.

“The news industry is going through an evolution thanks to the increasing consumption of news on digital  and streaming outlets,“ said Indian Television Dot Com director Mishaal Wanvari. “It has responded well to the challenges and has started developing different programming formats  catering to different targeted audiences. It has also started innovating by adopting technology which improves the viewer experience. We see a very bright future for the news TV industry.”

“The news TV industry has responded warmly to our initiative to recognise the best in class from the entries with the help of an outstanding jury from various walks of life,” said Indian Television Dot  Com chief business officer Soumitra Sahu. “Thanks to the enthusiasm of the news TV professionals and our partners, the NT Awards and Summit were a resounding success.”

BBC staff members launch new company to serve audiences with BBC Indian language services

Mumbai: Four BBC staff members have today (12 December) announced plans to leave the organisation and form a new entity in India which will provide audiences with a breadth of services across India, as commissioned by the BBC.

The establishment of Collective Newsroom Pvt Ltd ensures the BBC and Collective Newsroom can meet their shared commitment to Indian audiences and cover stories on India that matter to global audiences. It complies with the Indian foreign direct investment law.

Collective Newsroom has been established as an Indian company, wholly owned by Indian citizens, with four existing staff members leaving the BBC to lead Collective Newsroom. These senior leaders have a wealth of editorial and programme-making experience. The BBC will commission Collective Newsroom to produce its six Indian language services as well as Indian digital output and an Indian YouTube channel in English for audiences globally.

The BBC has a long-held and deep-rooted place in India’s media landscape, having first launched the Hindi language service in 1940. Since then it has developed a range of BBC output, expanding the number of Indian language services and growing audience figures from decade to decade with its agenda-setting and high-impact journalism.

BBC India senior news editor Rupa Jha and founding shareholder of Collective Newsroom, said, “Audiences in India can be assured that the BBC’s Indian language services and unique range of quality output will inform, educate and entertain audiences across our diverse and highly engaged country under the agreement between the BBC and Collective Newsroom. We launch Collective Newsroom with big ambitions for audiences in India and beyond.”

BBC News deputy CEO said Jonathan Munro, “The BBC’s presence in India is steeped in a rich history that has always put audiences first, so we warmly welcome the formation of Collective Newsroom which continues that progression. The BBC will get first-class content from Collective Newsroom that will be rooted in India and in line with the editorial standards audiences expect from the BBC. We look forward to working with them.”

BBC News International Services senior controller Liliane Landor said, “Two of the BBC’s critical strengths are its truly global output for audiences and our reputation as a trusted source of news. We are deeply committed to excellence in journalism for and from India, and this agreement ensures the continued production of independent, international and impartial journalism that the BBC News brand is renowned for in India and around the world.”

Activity for BBC monitoring and the BBC’s English language newsgathering operation for global output will remain with the BBC.

    Notes to editors:

    1.    The four staff members leaving the BBC to lead Collective Newsroom are; Rupa Jha, Mukesh Sharma, Sanjoy Majumder and Sara Hassan

    2.    The BBC provides content in six Indian languages (BBC News Hindi, BBC News Marathi, BBC News Gujarati, BBC News Punjabi, BBC News Tamil, BBC News Telugu) as well as in English, to 82 million people around the country on average each week

    3.    BBC News Hindi is the BBC’s language service with the largest audience and in 2023, across all platforms, its weekly reach figure grew 27 per cent year-on-year

    4.    The BBC World Service reaches 318 million people on average every week globally and operates 42 different language services

OTT censorship not feasible: former DD additional DG Mukesh Sharma

MUMBAI: The censorship of OTT content in today’s dynamic world will not help much, according to Deviprasad Goenka Management College of Media Studies dean Mukesh Sharma.

Sharma, who has also worked with national broadcaster Doordarshan in various capacities in the past and had an illustrious career, said, “What happens today is that with technology if you block one thing, something else pops up. Who knew about OTT five years ago? The government had censored films, TV and everything else, but this medium came up with new challenges. Tomorrow, if OTT is censored, some other platform will crop up.”

He is of the view that the government needs to have faith in its people and can only caution them about the right use of the media instead of blocking content. Sharma contended that the onus also lies on the content creators who should be more sensible and alert towards public sentiments.

Also present at the event was director and producer Anil Sharma, who echoed the same thoughts about censorship. He said, “The censorship of OTT is not in place today, but who knows it might be there in future. I believe that the first censorship comes from self, from within the people. That’s why proper education tools should be there to help people understand the just use of media, be it OTT or any other form.”

Mukesh Sharma also briefed about the massive growth that the media industry is seeing these days. He noted that the M&E industry in India is going to worth around Rs 2.26 lakh crores in 2020. While all the media are growing simultaneously, digital is seeing a huge leap of 30 per cent year-on-year and it is only bound to grow. He feels that OTT definitely has an upper hand on content now.

“At the moment, I do not find anybody going back to television. TV viewing has gone down considerably; film and digital are two platforms which are neck to neck now. But if good films are not made people will stop going to the theatres as well,” he said.

Stating that the industry is getting smarter in terms of content generation, Sharma quipped, “I feel now there is a lot of scope to express oneself, in a way one wants to, in the creative industry. Look at how the movies are performing now. The Khans are tanking at the box office while movies made in tier 2 or tier 3 towns are earning well. Young filmmakers, young actors, people who nobody knew about are now household names. OTT is already making waves in the content sphere and other media are catching up.”

But he feels that there is still a long way to go when it comes to creating good public service and science-related content. He noted that earlier Doordarshan used to broadcast public service announcements and that helped in creating awareness, but today the viewership of Doordarshan has gone down and no other medium has taken the responsibility of sharing these messages. “Earlier the brands were also very creative. For example, the ‘Jaago Re!’ campaign by Tata Tea was a great initiative. While a few brands today as well are trying to work in that space, they are not as extensive as earlier,” he said.

  • Ramesh Sippy steps in to train TV’s GenNext

MUMBAI: Indian television has, for long, suffered from a shortage of writers who could pen down the 1,000 or so episodes that Hindi GEC dramas demand. Of course, efforts are being made by the Film Writers Association, institutions such as Whistling Woods and companies such as Star India (which has an in-house writing programming).

Another player is entering the fray: film veteran Ramesh Sippy, who has given the industry the classic TV series Buniyaad in the eighties. Now, he has set up the Ramesh Sippy Academy of Cinema & Entertainment (RSACE) which has partnered with the Mumbai University’s-affiliated Garware Institute of Career Education & Development.

On offer to students are courses in script-writing, film art, film production, VFX and animation. Those who complete the three-year course will be awarded a degree in their respective courses.

Entrance tests to be eligible for admission to RSACE are to be held on 28 April 2107 and 8 May 2017. Candidates who get through for the bachelors course will need to cough up Rs 5 lakh a year for each of the courses, excepting scriptwriting, the fees of which has been pegged at Rs 3 lakh a year.

RSACE institute is bridging the gap between theory and hands-on knowledge.

Former DD Mumbai Kendra head honcho Mukesh Sharma who retired recently says, “My moto is working for the students, working with the students and working on the students. Associating with Mumbai University and Garware Institute of Career Education and Development will help students to get the recognised degree.”

Adds RSACE MD Kiran Juneja: “Ramesh Sippy has a lot of experience in the industry. So, he wants to share it with the world, and every aspirant in the film industry seeks to hit the road running from day one of their careers. Twenty students at a time is our prime focus, so that we can invest an equal quantum of time on everyone, which will help us deliver the best in the business,” she added.

The RSACE board includes: Ramesh and his wife Kiran, Hema Malini, Rohan Sippy and Manmohan Shetty. The advisory council members include big names from the industry such as Kamal Hasan, Sonu Nigam, Vidya Balan, Kabir Khan and many more.
